I became a vegan, for the spiritual reason of kindness, for 11 years. Sadly, I relapsed back into a taste for flesh in this last 2 years. This video has put me firmly back on the path. Thank you so much.
Was vegan 8 years. Was thinking it might have been a bit extreme and concerned about nutrition...did so e digging and ,lotta smoke for the fire.been eating animals for a year, but I think I'm going to be veganish with some eggs..basically what will give me the tricky to find nutrients on pure plants. I also follow a mind of alms based Mendicancy so I take what I'm given, though id prefer plants.
@@tylerwhitney3443from a logical/moral perspective eggs and milk can be sourced ethically! If you had your own supply the actual foods are ethical. It’s just the modern farming methods that cause harm. Started eating eggs also (not milk as haven’t found a good source) and would like to try raw milk also. No one talks about vegetarianism today. It’s either one extreme of veganism or carnivore. Vegetarianism seems like a sensible middle ground
@@luciferlucero I eat mostly fruit, but do eat some vegetables. For the last few months I have traveled in Mexico where I have found a much bigger supply of different fruits and much fresher vegetables than I could get in the US. I have eaten fruits I never saw in the US and only had heard of, and some I never had heard of. Even in states like Florida that grow a lot of fruit, grocery stores tend not to carry a lot of them. It took me a very long time to get to this diet. I became an ovo-lacto vegetarian in the mid-1970s. By the later 1970s I gave up the milk and eggs. But I had no guidance on what to eat, so ate lots of pasta, bread, and other such foods. I did this for a long time, including soy products, fake burgers, etc. Finally a little more than 10 years ago I tried a raw diet. I found that with raw foods I preferred fruits to most vegetables. I feel good with this diet. I don't look like a skinny beanpole at about 170 pounds and a little over 6 feet, but have low body fat.
I remember when I went vegetarian almost 13 years ago, thanks to my spiritual Master who said in one of his lecture that Jesus didn't eat meat, I decided to investigate the Bible and early christians history about vegetarianism, and I noticed almost all the elements noticed. That is when I discovered the Ebionites, the primal diet that God gave to mankind, the refusal of Daniel and his friends to eat meat, the possible parallel between how it was at the beginning concerning mariage and how it should be concerning diet etc. And I came to this very same conclusion of religious idealism in diet. I also noticed that in Judaism and Islam there are rituals done before slaughtering animal (Kosher in Judaism and Hallal in Islam), but in christianity there is none. I then concluded that one such ritual doesn't exist probably because meat consumption was not intended in early christianism. I think that this is one the important aspects of Jesus mission that has been very sadly lost to us.
Look up the Cathars and Essenes , Cathar comes from the greek word katharos which means pure, clean , so its a pureblood nutrition devoid of animal flesh and blood .
I almost didn’t watch this video because the title seemed a bit far-out and not that relevant. But wow, James Tabor wove a very strong case for his theory. Absolutely fascinating!!
If you opened your mind to the idea that animal life (CREATED by God, and similar to us by His design) has worth. Then the topic of this video is extremely relevant as well. Man fell, God's paradise is not yet again realized on Earth.

Well done! Thank you for this. I became Christian in 2010 and Christ made me vegan in 2013 after a 40 day Daniel Fast. I prayed for perfect health and God have it to me. Im surprised you didn’t mention the Essenes because this is the text God gave me to prove he never ate meat. And Isaiah 65:17-25 does speak of the future which is now! Fruitful blessings
Noah was a vegetarian too. He brought in the ark food for himself and the family and even for all the animals. There were only one pair of each animal which means that animals did not eat each other in the ark but every animal ate plants. Gen 7, 2.3. was added. Try reading without it. It is so clear.
@@key5t0ne You are thinking!. I bellieve it was animal dna that was collected, not the animals themselves. What would they have eaten if on a boat? where did all the excrement go? too many questions if they were on a boat.
@@key5t0nemy take was that he actually did bring “all the animals” onto the ark that the most high made. But that number was not a species-diluted as what we have now with the fallen state of the human and animal kingdom, and the fallen angel kingdom. Jubilees and other early texts speak to “22 kinds” with kinds meaning more like categories with multiple species within it, but not 8 Billion… it doesn’t give a number. But the takeaway is that it was way less animals than what we know now. Many of the subspecies and genus/phylum/order we have now, developed naturally and unnaturally over the next several thousand years. So to your point, I think maybe it was just “bears”. And then they later developed into grizzly/brown/black/polar So yes, the polar bear that wasn’t yet in the Polar regions, bc it wasn’t yet subjected to migrations that far north (or outer, depending on you’re angle) to adapt over time into what we now classify as polar bear… and this is what modern science is all about doing : inflating and confounding the simple and beautiful into something convoluted.
The scripture that came to mind when I was watching this video is Proverbs 23:20 (the King James version): "Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh...." I became a vegan several years ago when I was doing a lot of fasting to God (according to Isaiah 58 and Luke 2:37). I would also see videos on Facebook, and the animals in the videos had feelings I had never realized. (Incidentally, during this fasting period, I also discovered the names of Yeshua and Yahweh ... sorry - off topic.) More recently, my vegan stance is also based upon the idea that if God created animals and God created people - why would God care any less for his animal creations than he cares for his people creations? Humans do incredibly cruel things to animals not only by eating animals, but in every kind of abuse. I don't believe this was the plan of a loving and kind God. I have suspected that all the bloody sacrifices in scripture were the creation of man - the commandments of man (Isaiah 29:13, Matthew 15:8-9, Mark 7:6). I am what I call a devout Christian, although that's probably not what mainstream Christians might call me (actually, I've been called a heretic). I believe organized Christian religion is way off track (and has been for almost two thousand years). I discovered during my continuous fasting period that people had altered God's word. That didn't weaken my faith. I think it strengthened my faith because having this knowledge explained a lot of the inaccuracies. I thought to myself how naive I was to think that after a few thousand years, no one would alter the word of God to have it say what he/they wanted it to say to achieve power and wealth for himself/themselves. Another powerful reason that I did not turn away from Christianity when I discovered that God's word had been altered is because in the early 1990s, I received the baptism of God's spirit. It was and still is the greatest experience of my life. No one but a spiritual God could have transcended through my whole being during this occurrence. I had a lot of doubts about the spiritual baptism at that time (before it happened to me). I saw the scriptures that pointed to God's pouring out of his spirit (Joel 2:28, Acts 2:16, 17). I saw it was for whomever Yahweh our God calls (Acts 2:39). I just didn't know how it was going to happen. I couldn't understand it with my logical mind. I realize now that there is no logical explanation, and only almighty God can do this. I do believe people fake this experience; but, there are a lot of things that are faked in the name of Christianity. All I know is that it really did happen to me and there is no doubt in my mind. Anyhow, I really enjoy your teachings, Dr. Tabor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I sincerely appreciate your generosity. Bless you. One more thing - I love the scripture - "They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9).
Great testimony of the baptism of the Spirit of God! Walk humbly, do justly, and love mercy. Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. It's the spirit of sacrifice of all a natural man desires (comfort and exciting tastes, sights, sounds, and concepts of using others to obtain pleasures, and enjoy conflict and inflicting pain.) It's a broken heart and a contrite Spirit. Seventh Day Adventist come closest to Dr. Tabor. Loved "Hacksaw Ridge." Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is similar with The Word of Wisdom. "Return to Sparingly" is YT presentation of quotes of their leaders who encouraged a strict following of the health code which is the word of wisdom. Your body temple is merciful and so capable of holding the Spirit of God which is Love!
It's nice to find out there are others like me. I believe the "Christians" who discover this truth are among those who worship God in spirit and truth and sincerely seek truth and find it, they are the meek who will inherit the earth, the few who find the narrow path to life 🙏 If we humble ourselves as children, we inherit the kingdom - children naturally and instinctually love animals and are foretold to lead them in Christ's kingdom. The whole point of salvation is redeeming the earth back to its proper order, where everything is good again, with humans holding righteous dominion - obviously God would favor the people who seek and desire to do that, and for the earth to return to righteous order all who oppose righteousness would have to be kicked off which Jesus is foretold to do.
A banana has empathy? Maybe more so the tree. A more reasonable justification is that plants are a renewable source of food. Once you eat an animal, that same animal can’t be relied upon for more food. You can’t plant a chicken carcass and hope for more chickens. In yoga, there’s a tradition of ahimsa, which does not mean non violence, but more so limiting the amount of violence you have upon the world.
@@holzmann-bananas are meant to be food. If you don't eat them, they fall off the tree and rot on the ground. If animals do eat them, they help their seeds spread and sprout. If you kill a lamb, on the other hand, you don't need to theorize whether it feels pain or not as it clearly revolts and tries to escape and live. Its purpose is not to be food, but to be loved and cherished, to folick the fields with the human children who naturally love them so much, and be happy. Killing animals is perverse and backwards and evil, picking and eating fruit is natural and healthy and good.
@@holzmann- Sorry when was a banana a sweet, behavior wise in case you couldn't tell, and empathetic being? A banana isn't a being, it doesn't have the breath of life, or blood.
I recently started on a salad kick and I and my boss immediately noticed the after lunch effects the salad had versus my productivity after eating a meal that consisted mostly of meat.
Daniel and his friends were vegans and ate a Genesis 1 diet and most people due to the hebrew word being used think they primarily ate legumes and water. isaiah talks about those who kill an ox or a lamb are like those who kill men, Jesus himself compares himself to a lamb that is slaughtered etc.
Am a fan of Tabor's books and lectures. He is spot on about many things including the vegetarianism of John the Baptist, Jesus, and the Jesus Movement. This is not new information, so why do most not know about it? Most teachers, professors, leader types, etc... in Christian realms eat meat, and so are not inclined to care about this area of research. Often debates on vegetarianism in Christianity come down to what the debaters had for lunch, lol. Only those who are already vegetarians or vegans seem to be the ones to care about veg passages in the Book of Genesis, Old Syriac Gospels, Gospel of the Hebrews, Ebionites, apocryphal texts, church fathers and saints. And no, the apostles are not fisherman, still in their early 20's frozen in time or operating a fish market in the Galilee, lol. If one explores the various Acts of the Apostles, Acts of Thomas, Clementine Homilies, etc..., one will find references to most all of them becoming vegetarians. “John never ate meat.” “James, the brother of the Lord, lived on seeds and plants and touched neither meat nor wine.” The Apostle Thomas: “He continually fasts and prays, and abstaining from the eating of flesh…” “…The Apostle Matthew partook of seeds, and nuts, hard-shelled fruits, and vegetables, without flesh.” Peter said, “I live on olives and bread, to which I rarely only add vegetables…” “The unnatural eating of flesh meats is as polluting as the heathen worship of devils…” (Peter, Clementine Homilies) For sure, from the time of Paul, who was arguing with veg Christians, to the time of Saint Jerome, creator of the Latin Vulgate, clearly some in Christianity were committed to ethical vegetarianism as being part of the "Yoke of the Lord" (expression found in the Didache). St. Jerome: “The consumption of animal flesh was unknown up until the great flood. But since the great flood, we have had animal flesh stuffed into our mouths. Jesus, the Christ, who appeared when the time was fulfilled, again joined the end to the beginning, so that we are now no longer allowed to eat animal flesh.” (pro-vegetarian early church father Hieronymus [St. Jerome] who apparently was influenced by Ebionite views) “The steam of meat meals darkens the spirit. One can hardly have virtue if one enjoys meat meals and feasts. In the earthly paradise [Eden], no one sacrificed animals, and no one ate meat.” (Saint Basil the Great)
That's a quite interesting passage, I always thought that, Christians are basically non vegetarians, just like Muslim. Now, Dr. Tabor becomes a lighthouse in the dark seas of foolishness.
Any "food" is simply concentrated sunlight. The commercial industries owned by satanists & luciferians make an effort to ensure they have dense, low energy food on their shelves. It's a consciousness war. Don't many Chinese and Tibetan monks live off of sunlight (or a very stringent diet)? That's what I've read. Some are alive at 250+ years on water and sun, others on nothing. They've disciplined and stilled the mind.
Actually, the biblical record is very clear, Jesus ate both fish and lamb, as well as the priests, and God separated clean and unclean meats, therefore showing there is a difference. So no, he nor any of the prophets or other notable biblical characters were vegetarians, as that would have been out of character with their culture, and we have no indication to prove otherwise. So while a plant-based diet is definitely more healthy for you, the title of this video is misleading.
@@bldlightpainting Actually, Paul and Paul allied writings were OK with meat and even eating meat sacrificed to pagan idols, as we already know. The subject that should be of interest to those into learning is the diet of Jesus and those directly affiliated with him (Jerusalem, James the Just, other apostles). I have been Vegan for 6 years now and it’s all for God, the most high! One thing I’ll say is, I wish we had a true Bible with nothing added or taken away, the ORIGINAL text. If anyone has a Bible in recommendation that at least gets close to that please help me out, thank you so much!
In Jesus cooked fish too. Why would he give it to others if he would eat it himself? So, I'm thinking he at least ate lamb and fish, maybe not that often but he did eat it.
Jesus’ Last Supper, can you find the verse describing the lamb as it isn’t there. Jesus was of the Essenes, they also celebrated Passover one day earlier than the Pharisees, the Scribes, the Pharisees and the Sadducees. If you look at the Syriac Bible, it is in Aramaic, the common language which Jesus spoke as well as Hebrew and Greek, the feeding of the 5,000 does not include fish but a condiment for bread called “fish weed”. So is the same thing at work when Jesus is said to eat broiled fish or He did that to prove that His body was indeed made of flesh. Jesus came to fulfill all righteousness and He would have fulfilled the original design as He was the Creator, if you read John 1. Mankind has moved from being caretakers of the Earth and the animals, to be exploiters of both. The Lambs which were slaughtered at Passover looked forward to the True Lamb of God. He told people that they needed to eat His flesh and that His blood was true drink. No, we do not actually eat Him, but if we digest His Word, it was what He was getting at. It is better to live by the Perfect Will of God than a compromise allowed for the fact that not much was growing at first when Noah and his family came off the ark. Have you not read that when the Lord returns and He reigns as King, the lion will lie down with the lamb and both shall eat straw. I was crippled in a wheelchair with Arthritis and I prayed and asked God what I was doing wrong, He answered me in my mind “Have you not read Genesis 1”. I had read Genesis 1 many times but now it hit me, to eat the diet of Genesis would heal me. It did. I am now fully vegan. And it is a blessing. I do not have to take prescription medications at all, no high blood pressure, not diabetes type II, no high cholesterol, no liver disease or kidney disease, no longer have asthma or eczema. And I will be 70 in 3 months. My husband is also vegan. He waited and did not join what I was eating and we found out he had prostate cancer and it was too far along to treat with diet so he had to have surgery. He survived. Now there were 3 other men who also retired from where he worked who also had prostate cancer, they had chemo and radiation and all died within 3 months. My husband is HEALTHY. Tell me what blessing it is to have cancer. I watched my mother and mother-in-law and my only sister, all die of breast cancer. And I do not have cancer either. Our food is actually delicious. Yes, many who are non-Christians have become vegan as the love how ethical it is. But should not Christians not also understand this the more-so? You have no idea how many people are surviving cancers or have them reverse from the plant-based diet. My father died of Alzheimer’s and he was already sick with it at my age, 69. The greatest pleasure for the Christian is holiness and fellowship with God. Can you truly imagine Jesus running a slaughter house? I never thought about it when I ate meat at all, we learn not to see the horror we cause and the pain. We just expect all the health problems eating meat causes is “normal”. I’ve been vegan 10 years, in all that time, I’ve had the flu once, and one cold whereas before the diet change, I had one cold after another in the winter time. I also had a broken ankle after menopause which typically will not heal. But I eat kale and I do not have brittle bone. Does your diet give you such benefits? I love animals, I no longer mean, that I love how they taste! I love to see videos of the animals I used to eat in animal rescues playing and being happy. I never even before when I ate meat would have killed an animal but I paid others to do it for me. I have repented of that. When both Jesus and John the Baptist came teaching, both cried out “Repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” Repentance is part of being a Christian. Can you prove that the diseases I recovered from or have not gotten are just complete coincidences? Others who eat as I do have had the same health benefits. So it is a direct cause and effect. Do you actually think that being fat and sick is a benefit? Look around, most people are overweight and many are obese? Is this a proof that Christians live in repentance or indulgence? You tell me, which is better?

Yes, we have a bible from the 11 th century written in Danish. Jesus says “ Blessed is he whom eats like a dear in the field, for he shall dine at my table” deer eat plants, this verse is no longer in bibles so what else was edited by king James and others. I believe that Jesus follows what God sees as perfect which is the first instruction God gave man and animals, every fruit with seed and every herb as food. It does not seem hard to understand.

And what about the story in which Abraham is commanded by god to sacrifice his son and then instead was supposed to sacrifice an animal instead? Wouldn't have Jesus known these stories? Dear friends, I urge you to give veganism / vegetarianism a try. Its God's intended diet for us! You'll feel better and healthier. It's not sinful to refrain from eating meat. There are no downside to being a vegetarian. You'll be showing sympathy and mercy to God's other creations. God gave us dominion over animals to look after them not eat them. God bless us all!
Yes. From 900ish years to 120 years. Not many people catch that correlation between God giving permission to eat meat after the flood and God reducing life span at the same time. God said he was reducing the lifespan to 120 years because of man's wickedness...he just didn't explain his prescription for doing it. Gotta read between the lines sometimes.
Hello - The fact that Jesus was vegetarian is confirmed by Mother Mary in My Son (part of the sextology of volumes in the Winds of Truth series). He also did not touch fermented grape-juice, our wine, since in those days their so-called `wine' was pure grape-juice, which was also present at the Last Supper, and upon which they largely subsisted. Books are available from the WOT Trust. Blessings - RevDrD/Ministry
There is a proof: in the ancient christian catacomb of Domitilla in Rome, Jesus is represented combined with Orpheus (half Jesus-half Orpheus) - hence the early Christians were familiar with the Orphic tradition and Pythagoras, from there they got the 153 fishes and the Vesica Piscis, the measure of the fish, which has a purely symbolical meaning! Both Orpheus and Pythagoras were Vegetarians - and hence Jesus too!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord… Taking the life of any animal is completely against the teachings of “Jesus” plus he was an Essene and they were vegetarian.
What's cruel is universally cruel and what's enlightening is universally enlightening. God is one, we all see and seek Him from our individual perspectives. Just like water is water anywhere on earth, only it is known by different names according to different languages in different parts of the world, which all are created by same God. This totally aligns with Hindu philosophy where purification of 5 sheaths of body takes places first through purified diet, for what we eat not only nourishes our physically body but also our mind and intellect. Unless we remove cruelty from our day to day life, there is no way we can get rid of cruelty of mind which is the obstacle in our knowledge of the Self ie enlightenment. I am so happy and relieved to find this information that Christianity's core teachings are not in contradiction with universal law of path to liberation. This is exactly what separates Hindu race / culture / society from western or eastern cultures where we never had a vision to invade other cultures and convert them to our beliefs. Because our diet does not make us that violent and aggressive in nature where conquering and enslaving other cultures does not appeal to us as supreme power. And it is not for the lack of bravery and capability, we have fought within ourselves, we had big and small kingdoms in our land throughout the history, we stopped Alexander from conquering further in East where he finally was defeated in his world conquering mission. For last entire millennium, we fought for our freedom from invasions from Isslam and then England. Our warriors are not in any sense lesser to worldclass warriors from foreign lands. Still, till date we do not see virtue in spreading the prowess through enforcing culturally by any means. Our diet shapes our philosophy and our values that are unique in every way from any other culture.
The Isaiah 56 is clear a put in, cause they forgot to delete the stuff right efter for it to make seense in Isaiah 66.3 3He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations. Sadly they did renemer to chance it a bit in the danish version where it says you offer me and ox but slay a man. But I can read eglish polish and Danish and felt someting of in the sprit reading it and fund out ofcose the Danish bible is just full of more "mistakes" then others. They also have taken out that animals have a soul too in the danish bibles. But God put on my heart to studie this too, and I found an old bible from the 1905 ang guess what. The just 120 year older bible has the soul words in it when spoken of animals, and even Isaiah 66.3 is as the english ones. So there new updateted bibles, offen just are more lies eeded in the word. I give you every seed bearing plant and every tree that has seed bearing fruit on it to be your food. How interesting in light of the fact that you'd be hard pressed to find a grape containing a seed in the United States today, and that "they" are modifying so many fruits to remove them.
Hindu temples have huge banquets that are served to people on daily basis as well as on festive days. Strictly vegetarian food is served with no exception anywhere in the country or in foreign lands. Vegetarian is vegan + dairy in Hindu faith. We do not exclude dairy i.e. cow/buffalo milk. No eggs obviously as it actually an embryo of a bird/animal that has a potential living creature inside. That is why milk and eggs are not the same thing, one is obtained without hurting or killing an animal, the other involves taking life. I am so glad and relieved that basic teachings of our faiths are not in contradiction. Pray that Christians spiritually evolve to assimilate this truth about the Bible teachings and embrace them to ascend to higher realms of spiritual life. A funny story about how non-Hindus find the concept of vegetarian diet confusing - This was 15 years ago when veganism wasn't in vogue in western culture. My colleague was in the States on business/work visa, and he used to have lot of difficulty to explain to the waiters while ordering veg food as they would invariably consider/suggest dishes with eggs and fish to be vegetarian. He finally came up with this description - "Noting that moves or has potential to move!" Not to mislead the readers, majority of Indians do eat meat. However, their meat intake is restricted to only specific days in the week, not every day nor day and night. On festive days where religious worship takes place and on auspicious days where family functions of weddings and baby naming ceremony or when funeral rituals are performed, the food served is strictly vegetarian. The priest communities or communities that traditionally serve in the temples which is a small section of the society, they are lifelong vegetarians.
I could never see how the father of Jesus would like animal sacrifice or the killing of his creatures for food (unless it was a matter of life and death), and I can see that message embedded into the bible. Yet none of my Christian friends see it.
Amen to that. If you read the Bible carefully God didn’t say he wanted animal sacrifices, only made concessions to the Israelites, that ‘ IF they bring sacrifices then this is what should done’….. as Dr Tabor points out all the other cultures back then were doing blood sacrifices so the Israelites thought that’s how to worship.

@@ellenhomeister7374 There was human sacrifice both from where Abraham came, UR, and the Phoenicians who were in modern Lebanon and modern Gaza Strip. Phoenicians in Carthage were still practicing human sacrifice in 146BC and is not just well written about by the Romans but lots of archeology evidence. So the Abraham story of Isaac, is a story of reform against human sacrifice. So I think there were different degrees as to how this reform was practiced. Substituting an animal or no animals whatsoever. A similar Reform in Greece happened with Pythagoras who was half Phoenician who was said to have been taught by Jews.

This video is just a case of projecting a vegetarian personal belief on Jesus even though there is no evidence to the contrary. Jesus says nothing that would change or challenge the dominant meat-eating practices of the Old Testament. In Luke 24:41-43, Jesus ate fish. Jesus also served fish to His followers (Matthew 14), and He caused the fishermen’s nets to be filled on two different occasions (Luke 5 and John 21). The purpose of catching the fish was to sell them so they could be eaten. Jesus also cooked fish for His disciples (John 21:9). Why didnt Jesus tell Peter off for being a Fisherman a job involving eating meat? Jesus also ate meat and Fish in Luke and Matthew before the resurrection so this video argument its a made up part of the resurrection is rubbish. There nothing wrong with being vegetarian and people shouldn't project that onto Jesus when there's no evidence

@X23Ninja As I understand it, the inuit diet was dominated by fat /blubber for highly practical reasons but no doubt this diet and by implication the Inuit themselves might be condemned for this lack of plants in an environment where there are none. Crazy! But you make sound points ee scripture as well. It's slmost as if Jesus fails to be good enough if he doesn't meet the dietary regs. There's so much in these comments about a kind of spiritual one-upmanship of which vegetarian and vegan diets are a particular aspect. I found the video exasperating and really could not finish it , but the comments were getting me down as well. On dietary restrictions like this, for me, it comes down to Matthew 15 v 10-20, and not some imagined but absent Essene gospel. Thanks for your comments - they are on the money. I must say that I dislike the mythvision approach generally, but it is this sort of video in particular that also makes me ever more wary of Tabor's other work. Another reason for using the temple lambs was that the sin wasn't fully atoned for. They would cast their sins upon the lamb that they had raised themselves before slaughter. How can you openly admit all of your sins Infront of the Pharisees on a lamb you haven't raised? Therefore, they would still remain in sin.
Have to say I don’t see the evidence. The levitical priest and his family eat meat from the offerings prescribed in the law. The Passover is a command to Jews from the law. Jesus said unless you eat my body and drink my blood John 6:54 you shall not enter haven. A hyperbolic statement from the Passover covering by blood applied to the door post and lintel for sure. Exodus 12:7-14 . Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. Lamb sacrifice from the foundation of the world. Hebrews 10:12 and Revelation 13:8 so Jesus did not preach vegetarianism and the law came 400 years after Abraham who also sacrificed and eat meat. The law allowed Jews to eat clean meat so to state Jesus didn’t eat meat is at best anecdote and an argument from echoing silence. Not to mention God provided quail “ more than could consume because of their complaining or grumbling. So In doing that are you saying God violated his character by giving them meat? Doesn’t logically follow that he would say don’t eat meat because it’s a sin and then for God to tell them to sin. Poor expositions. Trying to fit a narrative into Gods word is an endless game at best.

This was a wonderful lecture - I've listened several times and will listen again. One question that arises: Dr. Tabor, how would you answer the person who submits that the first sacrifice was made by God Himself when He apparently 'sacrificed' an animal or animals in order to obtain the clothing with which He provided Adam and Eve after their sin?
From what I understand, Canaanites were quintessential traders, so to say, "no Canaanite in the House of the LORD" is tantamount to saying, "no traders in the House of the LORD."
The Torah was redacted and assembled by the priests of the Jerusalem temple. And the Jerusalem temple was agora, worship place, AND abattoir for all of Judea. We rarely even converse with our butchers anymore, but imagine a world where your neighborhood butcher was also a priest of your religion. Imagine the dietary laws they might create.
This may be taken as rather indiscreet and off topic, but if I may ask, is Dr. Tabor vegetarian/vegan? I don’t have any special reason for asking apart from seeking inspiration for my own attempts at following a mostly vegan diet. I now rarely eat meat (only on Feast Days and special celebrations, like Christmas, Easter - can’t have Greek Easter without the traditional paschal lamb - family weddings, and the like). As with everything from Professor Tabor’s and Derek Lambert’s “Mythvision” channels, I thoroughly enjoyed this segment - thank you. Greetings from Delphi, Greece! 🌿🏛🇬🇷

Based on what you said about hoe Jesus and his followers felt about temple sacrifices, it makes me think that this could be one of the primary motives for priests to want him out of the way. Temple sacrifices were obviously an indispensable source of income and food for the temple priests. It’s unlikely that they would be against the idea that a Jewish man might become King. It may have been a way to get Rome to get rid of Jesus, so that the priests could avoid blame. Just supposing. It makes more sense to me than does the idea that they would be opposed to a prospective messiah.
Mitch, you are exactly right. That is how it was. The 4 Gospels we have now are corruption of the original gospels written by the Essenes. I have read the essence Gospels, and that is exactly what it says there.
Deuteronomy 12:15 isn't temple sacrifices or offerings it's, humans are allowed to kill there animals for food wherever they lived, Deuteronomy 12:15 completely destroys mention of animals sacrifice two different things
Not that your assertion has so much to do with the point of this video, but I have known several people who have had to mitigate their veganism because of the health issues created by their diet. Of course I realise that this is merely anecdotal evidence based on my experience but then, I see no credible source for your 84%.
Well it’s a good thing that being vegetarian is different from vegan. Plant based does not mean 100% plants, it means one bases the majority of their diet with plant food.
And what about Jesus eating fish? Btw God himself opened the way for slaughtering animals by the same Genesis chapter He was the first to provide with leather cloths for Adam and Eva cause all changed after the first sin.
Contrary to the video title picture, he sure as hell didn't eat tomatoes! Tomatoes are a New World fruit that was unknown outside of the western hemisphere before the early 1500's C.E.
I like his observations. James Tabor's observations specifically. Once in awhile however, he will make statements that are Ludacris. Such as his observations by about 22 minutes and 18 seconds into this video. Where is questioning why different people saw different versions of the resurrected Jesus. Or 6 I call him, because that would be his name as spoken in Hebrew. I would posit that this is not an either or issue. Jesus's body was not stolen in the middle of the night on Saturday night. As according to the Scripture it was being watched over by guards, they were probably Israeli guards. As at that time there were probably not a lot of Romans in jerusalem, because Jerusalem was pretty much following the edicts of Rome because all of the power of jerusalem, were basically planted there, and were puppets of the Roman system. And as long as people are following the rules and paying their taxes Rome pretty much less them do whatever they please. So Jesus was not killed by the romans, they were just there to make sure that things are kept orderly. They did not generally get involved in matters of law unless it had an effect that might make its way back to Rome. To claim that Jesus was some sort of a frail decaying dead body and needed to eat is a ridiculous statement indicates that he doesn't quite understand that manifesting himself both as having the ability to transfer himself from place to place as well as having a physical body is not beyond the realm of what we understand in physics this day. Especially now that we understand quantum physics as it's constantly alluded to in the scriptures. That Paul saw a glorious vision of Jesus and others saw a man walking along the road or even the fact that Mary didn't even recognize him at first. Are all not inconsistent with the construct of the Resurrection. The continents of Yeshua is directly dependent on the person looking at him and what their understanding of his abilities might be or what he needs to see to get the point across to them. So that they understand the capabilities of Christ Beyond they are simple understanding. I'd also like to say that I have some problems with Paul because he was sent there intentionally to work for the purpose of destroying the concepts as laid down by Christ, which makes me wary of some of his influences. The fact that Christ, and Paul not long after the death of Christ suddenly comes along and says it's okay to go ahead and do some of this old crap that Jesus was preaching against is a point I tend to take seriously. However I'm also wary that sewing of contention is also not always a great thing. That alone can prove more destructive than is necessary. It's frequently a balancing act. But Christ did say he was out to destroy the traditions of man. It seems that Tabor may be correct and that God is looking for devotion, not sacrifice.
Essene Gospel of Peace book 1, it’s very clear what Jesus ate. He was vegetarian and told people they could have the milk of the ewe (female sheep). The latter was offered as a means to prevent starvation and death through winter months where they might run out of dried fruit. The Essenes were expert in drip irrigation and growing fruit and vegetables. Even the bread they ate was warmed by the sun and not fully cooked. Some say fish was added with the translation from Hebrew to Greek to speak to the culture of the time because it’s there in Matthew but then we only hear of bread at other times.

Mr. Tabor is on the money. Here are many of the references he used. The Panarion: 19.1 19. The Nazarenes: meaning “rebels,” who forbid the eating of any meat and do not partake of any living thing at all. They have the holy names of patriarchs which are in the Pentateuch, up through Moses and Joshua the son of Nun, and they believe in them, I mean, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the earliest ones, and Moses himself, and Aaron, and Joshua. But they hold that the scriptures of the Pentateuch are not Moses’ scriptures, and maintain that they have others besides these. The Panarion: The Ebionites: 4: 13And, “John came baptizing, and there were some Pharisees who were baptized, and all of Jerusalem. And John had a garment of camel's hair and a girdle of a skin about his loins. And his meat,” it says, “'was wild honey, whose taste was the taste of manna, as a cake in oil.” The Panarion: The Ebionites 15:3 In the Travels they have changed everything to suit themselves and slandered Peter in many ways, saying that he was baptized daily for purification as they are. And they say he abstained from flesh and dressed meat as they do, and any other dish made from meat, since both Ebion himself, and Ebionites, entirely abstain from these. Epiphanius: Panarion: Part 30: 22:3-5 And he did not simply say 'Passover' but 'this Passover,' so that no one could play with it in his sense. A Passover, as I said, was meat roasted with fire and the rest. But to destroy deliberately the true passage these people have altered its text, which is evident to everyone from the expressions that accompany it, and represented the disciples as saying, 'Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the Passover?' and he supposedly said, 'Did I desire to eat meat as this Passover with you?' But how can their tampering go undetected, when the passage cries out that the 'mu' and 'eta' are additions? Instead of saying ἐπιθυμίᾳ ἐπεθύμησα, they have put in the additional μή. Christ truly said, 'With desire, I have desired to eat this Passover with you.' But they misled themselves by writing in meat and making a false entry, and saying, 'Did I want to eat meat with you as this Passover?' But it is plainly demonstrated that he both kept the Passover, and, as I said, ate meat. Recognitions Book 7: Chapter 6: …Then Peter, laughed and said; …..Clement, I live on bread alone, with olives, and on occasion, some pot-herbs. And as for my clothes, it is what you see, a tunic with a pallium, and having these, I don’t require anything more.” Hegesippus on James in Hegesippus’ Book 5: …James, the Lord's brother, succeeded Jesus to govern the Church, in conjunction with the apostles. He has been universally called the Just, from the days of the Lord down until this present time. For many have born the name of James, but this James was holy from his mother's womb. He drank no wine or other intoxicating liquor, nor did he eat flesh… Hegesippus according to Eusebius; History of the Church Book 2 Chapter 23…James, the brother of the Lord was holy from his mother’s womb; and he drank no wine nor strong, nor did he eat flesh. Clement of Alexandria: The Instructor; Book 2 Chapter 1; And happiness is found in the practice of virtue. Accordingly, the Apostle Matthew partook of seed, and nuts, hard-shelled fruits, and vegetables, without flesh. Epistulae ad Faustum 22:3 James, the brother of the Lord, lived on seeds and plants and touched neither meat nor wine.
Hegesippus according to Eusebius; History of the Church Book 2 Chapter 23 John never ate meat. Eusebius of Caesarea: Demonstatio Evangelica: Book 3: 117 …This line of argument, then, being refuted, let me recur to the truth of the sacred writings, and consider the character of the Disciples of Jesus. From the mean as they stand, surely any sensible person would be inclined to consider them worthy of all confidence; they were admittedly poor men without eloquence, they fell in love with holy and philosophic instruction, they embraced and persevered in a strenuous and laborious life, with fasting and abstinence from wine and meat, and much bodily restriction besides, with prayers and intersessions to God, and last but not least, excessive purity, and devotion of body and soul. Therapeutae: An ancient sect of monks near Alexandria, Egypt who were akin to the Jessaenes (Essenes): On the Sabbath, they left their cells and assembled in a large hall for the common study of the Law as well as for their Holy Communion meal. The oldest member of the community began with a benediction over the Torah and then expounded on the Law while all listened in silence; the others followed in turn. After this they sat down to a common meal, which was very simple, consisting of bread and salt and herbs (hyssop); and water from a spring was their drink in place of wine. …They all wore white raiment like the Essenes... Sibylline Book 8 (paraphrased excerpt) Man is my image, having an upright reason. For him, a table pure and without blood is set. By your hand, make the table ready, and fill it up with good things by giving bread to the hungry, drink to those who are thirsty, clothes to the naked.... In the Clementine Homilies Chapter 9, the Nazarene Apostle Peter goes into great detail in regard to why Jesus and the Apostles (the Nazarenes and Ebionites) do not eat meat…it has to do with “sacrifices to idols” and “demon possession” that occurs through the ingestion of meat.

What do you eat, exactly? I'm vegan myself.

Noah was a vegetarian too. He brought in the ark food for himself and the family and even for all the animals. There were only one pair of each animal which means that animals did not eat each other in the ark but every animal ate plants. Gen 7, 2.3. was added. Try reading without it. It is so clear.
It's a fake story, he didn't gather every animal in the world onto his boat. How did he keep the polar bears alive?
Noah also knew the difference and offered a pure oblation, ie an un-bloody sacrifice as in Jubilees

not the animals themselves. What would they have eaten if on a boat? where did
all the excrement go? too many questions if they were on a boat.

The scripture that came to mind when I was watching this video is Proverbs 23:20 (the King James version): "Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh...."
I became a vegan several years ago when I was doing a lot of fasting to God (according to Isaiah 58 and Luke 2:37). I would also see videos on Facebook, and the animals in the videos had feelings I had never realized. (Incidentally, during this fasting period, I also discovered the names of Yeshua and Yahweh ... sorry - off topic.)
More recently, my vegan stance is also based upon the idea that if God created animals and God created people - why would God care any less for his animal creations than he cares for his people creations?
Excellent comment, much of what you said I have always felt as truth.
This is one of my favourite James videos. This is just fantastic! Thank you. I was not expecting this.

I hate violence to sweet empathetic beings.
Then it should also be wrong to cut a banana.

This is brilliant as a christian vegetarian myself I love this xx
One thing I’ll say is, I wish we had a true Bible with nothing added or taken away, the ORIGINAL text. If anyone has a Bible in recommendation that at least gets close to that please help me out, thank you so much!
Wouldn't Israelites at that time all participate in eating the Passover lamb?

The absence of lamb and the presence of bread and wine at the Passover supper indicates that Jesus and most of his followers were highly likely Essenes.
Jesus Is the lamb.
***And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. - Matthew 26:26-28***
Multiple sources (including Josephus) state that; Jesus' brother James was not only vegetarian but "RAISED as a vegetarian", indicating that his family were ALL likely members of the Essenes and/or vegetarians.
According to John; Jesus was sacrificed alongside the lambs during preparation for Passover. However! Jesus and his followers had already celebrated Passover 2 days prior.
**It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon.
“Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.
But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”
“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.
“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered." - John 19:14-16**
This begins to make sense when we learn that the Essenes celebrated Passover a few days before their contemporaries as they followed a slightly different calendar.
Furthermore, The Essenes always celebrated Passover on a Wednesday, which would have been the exact day Jesus was arrested after the Passover supper.
The evidence is fairly overwhelming.
Jesus, during his earthly ministry was most likely, an Essene.
**He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. - John 1:11**
Much love.

It doesn't help when certain versions of the Bible use the word meat instead of the word food when referring to what GOD wants man to eat.
Meat is not a food for human body.

Dear friends,
I urge you to give veganism / vegetarianism a try. Its God's intended diet for us! You'll feel better and healthier. It's not sinful to refrain from eating meat. There are no downside to being a vegetarian. You'll be showing sympathy and mercy to God's other creations. God gave us dominion over animals to look after them not eat them.
God bless us all!
Then how could Yeshua fulfill all the mitzvot if he never ate the Passover lamb?
Did you notice how the lifespans dramtically decreased when they started eating meat?
Yes, and look at vegans today. Most of them appear much younger in complexion compared to nonvegans.

A funny story about how non-Hindus find the concept of vegetarian diet confusing -
This was 15 years ago when veganism wasn't in vogue in western culture.
My colleague was in the States on business/work visa, and he used to have lot of difficulty to explain to the waiters while ordering veg food as they would invariably consider/suggest dishes with eggs and fish to be vegetarian. He finally came up with this description - "Noting that moves or has potential to move!"
Not to mislead the readers, majority of Indians do eat meat.
That's because they are indoctrinated. You can't teach them anything, they are scared to not follow their pastor. Jesus had one thing right, his followers are sheep

So the Abraham story of Isaac, is a story of reform against human sacrifice.

But you make sound points ee scripture as well. It's slmost as if Jesus fails to be good enough if he doesn't meet the dietary regs.
There is some useful even challenging material, but he seems to play to the gallery far too readily just like any other UA-cam influencer.

Actually Passover has no instructions involving sin or atonement. The Yom Kippur Atonement feast is in the fall and is specifically a goat.

Why does he write Hebrew the wrong way (left to right) at 5:39 ?

And his meat,” it says, “'was wild honey, whose taste was the taste of manna, as a cake in oil.”
The Panarion: The Ebionites 15:3 In the Travels they have changed everything to suit themselves and slandered Peter in many ways, saying that he was baptized daily for purification as they are.
And as for my clothes, it is what you see, a tunic with a pallium, and having these, I don’t require anything more.”
Hegesippus on James in Hegesippus’ Book 5: …James, the Lord's brother, succeeded Jesus to govern the Church, in conjunction with the apostles. He has been universally called the Just, from the days of the Lord down until this present time. For many have born the name of James, but this James was holy from his mother's womb. He drank no wine or other intoxicating liquor, nor did he eat flesh…
Hegesippus according to Eusebius; History of the Church Book 2 Chapter 23…James, the brother of the Lord was holy from his mother’s womb; and he drank no wine nor strong, nor did he eat flesh.
Would love to hear your connection to the Waco story Dr. Tabor!
In case you haven't seen them, there are a couple related videos on UA-cam, one featuring a panel of scholars including Dr Tabor. Very interesting stuff.

Wonderful 'common sense' teacher :)
Those that lusted after flesh ate quail and died.
Num 11:19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
Num 11:20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised YHWH which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
Num 11:32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
Num 11:33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of YHWH was kindled against the people, and YHWH smote the people with a very great plague.
Num 11:34 And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
I was thinking they died. Thanks!
They wanted more meat than what the Lord provided them in the first place.
If he was an Ebionite Nazarite, he didn't eat cooked food of any kind.
Blessings
It says in the Bible that Jesus cooked Fish and ate with his disciples..so He was at least pescatarian. But Isrealites commonly ate lamb..so I doubt it. Jesus also multiplied the fish at the Sermon on the Mount. What is wrong with animal products? Eggs..milk..cheese. They are not eating an animal.
No way Jesus ate any flesh!

I don’t know. The Bible says He did.
@@kathleenwharton2139 Jesus would not kill and eat any living creature just use your common sense living plants we are to eat, read The Essene Gospel of Peace!

The Bible said Jesus caught fish..cooked them and invited his disciples to have supper. I guess you can believe anything you want to.
@@healthyone100 Luke 24:42-43 “They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.” Or you could believe that the Bible is not God-breathe, in which case you aren’t a Christian.
What is the origin of the Greeks?
Well, the Bible did say Jesus ate lamb, veal, beef, fish, eggs, and cheese. That doesn’t sound vegetarian to me. Just saying.
His followers were fishermen.
Yes, they WERE. But Jesus told them “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
So I’m assuming they stopped killing fish.
@@nestechenthey fished throughout there's "miracle" stories about fishing & they also went back after Jesus was crucified.
@@nt6911 Bible might be falsified. His disciples were vegetarians because Jesus taught it.
Much appreciate the insights ❤
