Even as a young Christian I noticed the stark difference what Jesus taught and what Paul taught. I didn’t know what to do with it though and thought it was probably just me not knowing enough or missing something but it kept me confused. So I really appreciate these videos, helping me to sort these things out. I’m agnostic now but I still enjoy learning about something I’ve spent half my life trying desperately to understand so I could be saved.
I think Paul is the Antichrist the church is waiting for in the future. It was only in the future when Jesus spoke of it. He said all of it would happen before every of the 12 apostles had died.
That’s not how you get saved, according to Paul. You do not get saved by understanding the Jewish literature, but by a supernatural miracle in which Yahweh exchanges your dead soul for his living spirit. You have a new spirit. This new spirit makes you have the mind of Yahweh, the Jewish deity. And only then will you understand the things of the spirit like the Hebrew writings. Capiche?
Acts 9:15 But the Lord said to him: “Go! because this man is a chosen vessel to me to bear my name to the nations as well as to kings and the sons of Israel. 16 For I will show him plainly how many things he must suffer for my name.” How could Jesus' appointee Paul teach contrary doctrines to what Jesus taught. Any examples?
I suggest you read Jesus from Outer space by Richard Carrier - an American Ancient philosopher who originally specialised in Greco-Roman culture but was asked to research material that led him to discover a great deal about western asian culture and religion as well. The book I mentioned above is the layman's version of his scholarly work On the Historicity of Christ, which is, as you might expect, very erudite, but not a very easy read, having to tick all the boxes required of Academicians - I know, I bought a copy. He also does know something ( or more than something) about the other Abrahamic religions. Imo it's worth watching some or more of his Yt videos as well.
NOTE: Nothing against any other Christian Church! This discussion has been helpful. I was raised in high church Anglican and the Roman Catholic environments. I always had trouble reconciling church doctrine (based on Paul) with Jesus' own message. Dr. Tabor has cleared up the fog in my mind and has guided me back to the original concept of Jesus.
The problem is the accounts of Jesus we have were written after Paul and heavily influenced by him and others. You might be able to tease out some of the original Jesus, but I don't think its enough to base any sort of faith around.
You should be unable to reconcile the two messages. If you should do so you'd have a mess! These are two different messages to two different peoples one from God (Jesus) and the other from God's one apostle (Saul > Paul) to the World - you and me, our parents and our children. Jesus came to offer the KINGDOM to ISRAEL as had been prophesied for centuries but the Jewish leaders rejected His offer repeatedly. The prescribed conduct for Jews was to repent and be baptized (Peter in Acts at Pentecost) AND to bring sacrifices to the temple for the priests to offer on his behalf and do good works such as helping victims of violence (Luke 10) or donating wealth to the needs of the poor. PAUL on the other hand (sent by God to the Gentiles, i.e. the World, not limited to Israel), delivers a brand-new message (a mystery), preaching from the standpoint of a post-cross state (Jesus paid it all for all - I Jn 2:2) offers salvation without repentance and without water baptism (God baptizes believers with the Holy Spirit Titus 3:5-6) enabled purely by God's grace without ANY acts of righteousness by the convert who had been hopelessly enslaved by sin. Instead, conduct of even the believer is less than completely holy, so repentance becomes appropriate in life AFTER, not preceding rebirth. Water baptism may be performed purely as a testimony to the transformation from enemy-of-God to son-of-God. (Rom. 6)
Nobody "created" Christianity. The Hebrews spoke of "this age, and the age to come". An "age" is covenantal language meaning out of the Old Covenant age of Israel, and into the New Covenant age of the Church. Christianity was already predestined to come by prophecies made by the Hebrew prophets. Christianity was the fulfillment of the Old Covenant promises made to Old Covenant Israel. It was all about FULFILLMENT of the Old Covenant law and prophets. Tabor seems to think St.Paul "created" Christianity. WRONG! St.Paul's task was to spread the Gospel out to all nations. His task was fulfilled. Tabor still has got a lot of learning to do to find the truth.
Paul didn't start a new religion. Everything you describe was started by Martin Luther and John Calvin. Read Romans 2:6--7 where he says you must have works. Many of the other times he mentions works, he is referring to works of the law. You're listening to modern evangelicals explanation of Paul, and imposing that upon Paul himself. Jesus preached the kingdom. Read Acts 28:23 and 30-31 and you will see that Paul did the same.
Paul isn't preaching righteousness by Faith, modern protestantism is. Ephesians 2:5 Jesus gave us the gift of righteousness while were were still blind and enemies of God. Romans 5:19 just as we don't accept Adam's sinner by faith neither do we accept Jesus by faith. The righteousness he gives us is something we play no part in attaining.
The reality is is what we call Chrisitianty today is actually based on the gnosticism of Paul. Paul was a initiiate of the gnostic mysteries and what Chrsiitanity is today is largely based on his particlar interpretation of the gnostic mysteries with was mostly based on faith than knowledge
Hey dude, I'm loving this channel lately. Eating up every minute of Dr Tabor. Thx for making this content, it's funny how niche it isn't, lol! These are my people.
@@karleemiles2988 late reply - but you should look into the work of Robert Eisenman who is a renowned scholar and largely key for us having the Dead Sea scrolls today. He puts a tremendous amount of effort into clarifying Paul’s family tree, replete with Herodian ties (and yes, he’s a cousins of the residing Herod at the time - which he admits both indirectly (in Romans) and via his own associations several places elsewhere. Dr Tabor himself also puts a lot of info out on this. As does Doug @jesuswordsonly … plenty of context exists to clarify the sheister of tarsus
Jesus forgot to tell James his brother and the Jerusalem crowd that their way is irrelevant and someone will come along in a few years and change everything. Someone who claims Jesus spoke to him in a vision. Claims like that (God is speaking to them but you can't hear him, just do what I tell you... Muhammed, Joseph Smith...) are as old as the hills and still going on.
@@tongakhan230 That James' version of Christianity would be irrelevant and some visionary would come along and change everything. Pretty big oversight by Jesus. Also "half brother"... I'd like to see your evidence for that. Or is that just your interpretation? Everyone is their own Pope it seems.
@@GravityBoy72 : James -Son of Joseph and Mary, and half brother of Jesus. (Mr 6:3; Ga 1:19) Although not an apostle, it was evidently this James who was an overseer of the Christian congregation at Jerusalem (Ac 12:17) and who wrote the Bible book bearing his name. (Jas 1:1) He may have been next to Jesus in age, being the first named of Mary’s four natural-born sons: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas. (Mt 13:55). However, after the death of Jesus and prior to Pentecost 33 C.E., James was assembled for prayer together with his mother, brothers, and the apostles in an upper chamber in Jerusalem. (Ac 1:13, 14) It was evidently to this James that the resurrected Jesus appeared personally, as reported at 1 Corinthians 15:7, so convincing this onetime nonbeliever that He was indeed the Messiah.
@@tongakhan230 Sorry... that's BROTHER... there is no "half". Also James and the actual life-time followers of Jesus still believed that the Law and circumcision were important. Jesus forgot to tell them it wasn't? But along comes Paul with his "vision" and a different religion. And Paul... hypocrite that he was went along with James' request to do the temple ritual (just before his arrest) to show the Jerusalem people he still followed the Jewish law. And he did. If you don't want to see the division between the Jewish Christians and Paul that's your problem. Its absolutely there and Galatians 2.12 shows it all in it's glory.
Tabor is claiming there is an incongruence within the text by Paul. To analyse these fallacies, we will see that faith must always come before righteousness, otherwise righteousness is in vain. This concept is easily outlined in Hebrews: Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. The notion that righteousness comes before faith is absurd in and of itself, because you cannot have righteousness without knowing who or what God is; it is no longer righteousness. Only then when you know who God is, are you capable of being righteous before God. Tabor also misses a key part to Habakkuk 2:4 “Behold, he whose soul is not upright in him shall fail, but the righteous shall live by his faith”. His faith. The passage only tells us that a man shall live by his faith, his trust in Gods plan. This is in no way contradictory to Romans 1:17. Paul also mentions in Heb 10:38 “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him”. Paul is not contradicting himself or Habakkuk. MythVision Podcast brings up the Book of James with the concept that works is needed for faith. This is also a huge misunderstanding in modern Christianity that works is somehow following the law. We see clearly in James 2:21-23 “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest though how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God”. If you have faith in God, then you will live in congruence to His will, as seen in James 2:21-23 expression of Abrahams sacrifice of Isaac. Abraham was justified by his works. Would he have done it if there was no belief in Gods plan? Belief in God comes first. Acting in congruence to Gods will can only come after to faith and belief in God, it is absurd to say it comes first. The equation to faith and works equals righteousness. Book of James only highlights that the belief in God alone means nothing, it is dead. Hebrews is important because it tells us that the law has been put to rest by the last sacrifice, the perfect lamb of God; Jesus Christ for how he died without sin. Jesus overcame death. Christ is now part of faith. There is Old Testament faith which included the law, now there is New Testament faith which excludes the law, this is all part of the gospel message. Faith and works goes hand in hand, I already explained that. The law has no bearing within the New Testament, you don’t have to believe in the New Testament but at least get the story correct. I don’t know how or why James Tabor or even MythVision Podcast cannot comprehend such simple concepts. But I guess most Christians don’t understand the gospel so how can I blame these guys. I'm not even going to analyse the seed part. James Tabor is clearly ignorant on the gospel.

Faith without evidence is an extremely dangerous and a lazy way to think, if you can even call it thinking. Why don't you start reading other books for a change, expand your mind. There is so much more to learn than all that pushy stuff in the Bible.
@TaxEvasi0n Faith without work is a dangerous precedent that justifies any crime or sin that might occur in the future. New Testament was corrupted and it doesn't even make sense to just have Faith without work. Justice can come before Faith, or are you saying that non jews were unable to do justice eventhough they weren't believers?
@@vinlondon8904 I think we do agree for the most part, but to put it simply; Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Faith is the belief in God AND His promise/promises. Abraham had faith BEFORE he was circumcised, yet Abrahams faith was still accounted for righteousness. I believe that believing in God and His promises, will bring forth good works (not the works of the law) like loving ones neighbour (as love is the fulfilment of the law) and continuously trying to break away from sin. But either way, how can we be righteous is we don't believe God, or His promises? This is what I am saying. Faith, a belief in God AND His promise/promises to come, is accounted for righteousness. Fruits follow. I accept the epistle of James, I see no issue with Paul. I hope this makes sense.
Are you saying that most Christians reference John instead of Paul's writings? If so, I've come to the same conclusion simply bc the author of John is clearly saying that Jesus is God. 90% of the God posts I see on my friends social media are verses from John.
@@clinchleatherwood1012 Sorry, I was talking about John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was a joke. But if Jesus was (is) God, then God (who gave his only begotten son....) sacrificed God to God...right? But if Jesus was (is) human then we have another religion based on human sacrifice...right?

@ChristopherCudworth. Woah. I never put together the idea of Paul's entitled position of favorite student of Gamiel, him being a Pharisee, son of a Pharisee, and a privileged Roman citizen as likely also giving him a feeling of justified power and legalism. I've been struggling for several years since coming to faith with what comes across as arrogance and self-righteousness of what I have come to call American Churchianity. Your statement was an eye opener. TU.
Paul was called for a reason, and it wasn't to establish the false religion of "christianity". He followed the example of the Messiah and kept the Feast Days and Holy Days and the Sabbaths as Yahweh commanded, and as ALL the disciples did.
@@carolinenorman6141 Christianity is quite adept at ignoring its conflicted nature. That is clear from the get-go. It emanated from a teacher in Jesus who reportedly said that the "meek shall inherit the earth" and yet to this day it is power-hungry manipulators that control the top tiers of the religion across a spectrum of legalistic denominations. It's almost as if they never heard Jesus speak at all. And thank you, Paul, for reminding us all of that.
@@ljones98391 When I first heard about Paul battling with Jesus' brother James over the structure and direction of the religion, I was stunned. We all "learn" that Paul had this vision from Jesus himself, and that all the letters from Paul to different communities were God-inspired. Certainly Paul was a genius in many respects. His writings were exceptional. But that's true of many such "men of God." They still have flaws. Martin Luther was a noted anti-Semitic, for example. While his reformation of the Catholic Church freed people from the onerous tactics of purgatory and indulgences, it did not "cure" the religion of its legalistic tendencies. In fact, much like Paul, the Protestant movement claimed for itself the mantle of God, and then turned into its own form of legalism with literalism, inerrancy and infallibility leading the way, and astray. Now we're dealing with two evils: the arrogance of the Catholic Church in its conservative forms...claiming it owns absolute authority over Christianity...while Protestant and evangelical spinoff fight for power through political means. In modern parlance, Christianity is a "hot mess" at once in love with itself yet rife with self-loathing of known and unknown origins. I've written books about this history and its outcomes. Wow I have never made the connection between Akiva's prayer about thanking God for not being a gentile or a woman, etc and Paul's statement there is no man nor woman, greek nor jew, slave nor free. Good work Derek.
There are only four things you need to know to be a Christian. One is in the Old Testament, two are in the New Testament, and one was written in the 4th century CE. They are: 1. The 10 Commandments. 2. The Lords Prayer: Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4. 3. John 3:16. 4. The Apostles Creed (although this has some language that is hard for some people to understand and accept.) TPers have a strong desire to seek the truth and are able to perceive multiple alternatives of possible realities. But when they look at all of the different forms of belief in the God of Abraham (Judaism, Muslim, Catholic, Protestant, etc.) and Issues regarding the nature of Jesus, Trinitarianism, salvation, the authority of apostolic succession, eschatology, conciliarity, papal supremacy and papal primacy among others that separate one denomination from another, they realize that they can’t all be right, and therefore reject it all. Anyone who thinks that their church’s interpretation of the gospel (or other religious texts) is absolutely correct is fooling themselves. Truth and faith are separate entities. Unless one simplifies the concept of faith in God, one cannot accept that God exists. It’s impossible to believe that a loving God (as taught in the New Testament) would advocate the hatred for other beliefs that drives some of the various religions (e.g., Muslims). There are scientific factors that argue for intelligent creation, e.g., the fine structure constant (if it was different by .001% the universe would not exist), and entropy, among others. After studying the alternatives, it becomes impossible to embrace a single Christian denomination or other faith, and it is impossible to reject the possible existence of God
I enjoyed your discussion. Unless Abraham had preexisting faith without knowing God, which I find difficult to understand, but Abraham was rather impressive, I would think Abraham through faith and understanding be came righteous. Hab. 2 is a prophesy of Paul's coming and his teachings of lawlessness against Yahweh's Eternal Law. Read Hab 2:5 with Paul in mind: Whose "soul is lifted up and not upright in him." The false teacher that would "gathers all nations to himself". The one who would teach apostasy against the Law and to "tresspass with wine." (Tit. 1:7). Paul was a prolific traveler who "neither keepeth at home." Indeed, many Christians today live solely by his false faith. (Hab. 2:4) Paul is quick to misquote the prophets and ignore other truths in the very same chapter. "But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him." (Hab. 2:20) But Paul says: "However, the most High does not dwell in temples made with hands." So pick carefully who you will follow. You cannot serve both Yahweh and Paul. Keep the commandments and do works worthy of repentance as Yeshua and his brother Jacob taught or vainly hope that your faith will be sufficient as the wicked teacher taught.

It played straight after the Xmas eve service livestream from my old church which listened to out of sentimentalism ... so was perfect timing 👌 😆
28:08 ok that is it. That is stupid. Paul just said there is no man and woman, and the idea of the bride of Jesus, you take it literally, and it is uncomfortable for you because you are a man (and a bride is literally meant for a woman in a marriage), but if you are a woman I bet you would not mind. This was not meant as literal. Bride - Marriage - two become ONE Is it not all believers' ultimate goal to be ONE with Adonai? The bride of Jesus is a figurative way to say to be one with him to be one with God because he is ONE with God (the Father). The point is these mistakes (including some of Tabor's assessments about Paul's belief) are due to misinterpreted figurative as literal.
I want to be gentle here. But to what degree are the errors you see in Paul result from erroneous Protestant interpretation errors? It seems like Tabor and the host are starting with a false understanding of Paul, and then putting the burden of error on Paul.
You have to give credit to Paul, as one of the best pr and marketing geniuses as we would describe it today. He refined christianity, made it attractive to the underclass, then ran like hell with it. Today he would make Musk, Besos etc look like rank amateurs
He was no Musk or Besos. The Roman Empire made Christianity the religion of the state and the rest is history. Had they not, you would have read about Paul and Jesus as some old rejected Jewish cult.
@@doyouknoworjustbelieve6694 Yes. The Roman Empire saw how useful a religion it was "all authority comes from God... render onto Caesar". They also suppressed all the other versions of Christianity out there.
The ONE QUESTION that haunts me is that of the Apostles and their martyrdom. Why? Personally I believe that religion is a contest of “ my god ( space alien) is better than your god ( space alien)”. And the “ god of Israel” is Yahweh the Annunaki and NOT the Supreme Consciousness
😏what you are missing is that behind Musk, there is a system, a big operation (for Goods we hope!), So, that means behind Paul a big machine were instigated to promote him at the left of the gods.... The name is Rome Empire! You are true this was a genius sorcery from this time establishment, already living today!🙏💚🧡
I was just having a discussion with someone yesterday about the seed and the seeds. For several years, I’ve had a problem with Paul’s idea of the word seed.
Paul agrees with James in Romans, as he says the just shall live by faith, so they must prove their faith, and only doers of the law shall be justified.
@@johntiggleman4686 Wrong. Faith without good works is dead, today context is doing good works in faith. Works of the law are transgressions of the law, as Romans 3:20, which is the definition and imputation of sin. Paul is saying in Romans and Galatians simply that by sin no man is justified in the sight of God. I have a Ytube video series called 'Myths in so-called Christianity', and the #1 of 25 is grace is unmerited, which is not reasoned in Romans 11:6.
@@3r2w1c Those my friend are good works, but works of the law are transgressions or sin. Works of the law are not attempts to work salvation, they are the opposite, and partly why 'Christianity' has grace as unmerited. You may like to watch my Ytube 'Myths in so-called Christianity', as my #1 of 25 so far is Paul proving grace is merited.
What is the context?? 2nd Corinthians 12:16 - [16] But be that as it may, I did not burden you with my support. But some say that I was sly and took you by trickery. 16. I did not burden you-The "I" in the Greek is emphatic. A possible insinuation of the Corinthians is hereby anticipated and refuted: "But, you may say, granted that I did not burden you myself; nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you (in my net) with guile"; namely, made a gain of you by means of others (1Th 2:3). [16] But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. 1Th2: [3] For our appeal does not come from delusion or impure motives, nor is it motivated by deceit our message is complete, accurate, and based on the truth-it does not change. Some of the Corinthians still believed that Paul had deceived them by trickery. They might have insinuated that Paul was helping himself to the proceeds of the collection for the Jerusalem church (chs 8-9). The answer to this charge is a reminder of the integrity of Titus and the other brother (see 8:16-24). The integrity of Paul and his associates should debunk such false charges. Context, context, context!

too many misunderstandings here to address them all. please consider: Paul heard the voice speak in Hebrew. Most likely he was the only one who spoke Hebrew being of the educated class. The others prob spoke Aramaic which was of no help in understanding Hebrew.
THIS is the answer about tsadik that I had searched for such a long time, and my search lead me to the true history and to eventually leave the camp. THANK YOU for finally answering my first, and last, question professor Tabor!
Even David in Psalm 32 (and others) looked forward to a day when YHWH's righteousness would be imputed on him and not of his own works. This was not a "new religion" from Paul. This was the Gospel!
8:15 Righteous vs. Faith - in a sentence where there are two equivalents, the order matters less than the equivalence. That's a Law of Language that characterizes the highest order of Language processing - it is not literal, nor literary. It is how the Logos works. An equivalency yields both sequences, or all unless parenthised as in math - (let the listener perceive it.) And of course this renders most polar arguments immediately suspect - confessing that what is accused, is what is being done by the accuser. You need to have this level of understanding going forward.
I've listened to a lot of Dr Tabor and by now usually I've heard this person's schtich. Like Graham Hancock or Jordan Peterson. Fascinating ideas but they start to repeat themselves. Dr Tabor keeps hitting us with revolutionary things, imo. Especially for lifelong readers of the New Testament.
I wonder if Paul wasn’t making a straw man to convert gentiles from paganism which tended to be very transactional. Also, how transactional were the Sadducees and temple Judaism? It appears very so. One final thing, what effect did Christianity have on the formation of rabbinic Judaism? For sure the influence did not flow just one direction.
My personal opinion about Paul is that he is a devout follower of Jesus with many good intentions, and that he also exhibits personality traits of a narcissist.
Yes...brags about all the beatings he got, the jail sentences. Hardly a humble person. He also is quite angry with Peter, James and John back in Jerusalem who sent out their own missionaries to correct what the rightly saw as Paul's heretical preaching. Easily seen in his letters to the churches asking why they left "his" teaching.
@@nkelley3 You can see his complaining about them in some of his letters. James, Peter and John were at first happy that Paul was not attacking early Christians; but when then heard he was throwing out The Law, that got them acting against him.
James Tabor, what is your opinion on E.P. Sanders' understanding of Paul? I find his arguments fairly convincing, but they seem to conflict a little bit with yours. I have to admit I have not been following the field of pauline studies closely and thus it's entirely possible his views are a really tiny minority view or have been convincingly refuted. Still, your opinion would be interesting to hear!
Who is that guy? What are his arguments?... James Tabor is about fact, not conviction, comparing texts from this time is evidence not speculation! This is the work from Pr Tabor, years after years we listen here.
Probably not but then neither Protestantism in all its variety of forms nor Catholicism in all its variety and forms encompass the true and utterly simple meaning of Christianity....simply love God and simply love one another. Those of us who are also mystics of one kind or another do not mind too much that Pauline Christianity is based on his visions and revelations. After all, the Spirit is not long dead, having completed its work 2,000 years ago but is rather long-living, still at work today, trying to speak to the people who live in this twisted, cold, brutal, pornographic, abusive, violent and yet still beautiful world in which we find ourselves today. We need the Spirit too, you know. That need wasn't just for ages past. We need it today as much as they needed it then. Peace to you!
We need to follow Jesus's teachings. Paul was a great tool for God but whatever interpretation you get from his writings I don't think he had perfect doctrine or understanding.
@@iguanapoolservice1461 I could be wrong but it seems that Jesus' teachings are rather short and simple: love God, love other people, treat others like you want others to treat you, be good to them, be kind, be patient, be as generous as you can be. I guess you could develop that "love God" part into learn to pray and learn to walk in God's presence but those two, love God, love other people, is about it. People get all worked up about believing in the Virgin Birth or baptism or a certain kind or method of baptism or church giving and church attendance or certain beliefs about the Bible being this or that or certain ways to celebrate the Eucharist or about abortion or sex or this and that and on and on and on it goes. Those things always seemed like distractions to me but to each his or her own. As for me, I'll stick with those two requirements: love of God, love of others. I do OK with the first one but I have been known to have a little trouble with the second one, loving others, especially that guy that lives down at the end of our street. He's always harping on the Rapture and told me that I'm going to be left behind. I told him that was just fine with me and asked I him where he kept his house and car keys. I told him that as soon as he's Raptured, I'm going to over to his big new house and am moving in and am going to get the keys to that loud, black '62 Corvette he's so proud of. We haven't been on very good terms after that. He loves that car so much that he evidently thinks that he can ride that fiery black Vette up into the Rapture like Elijah went up into heaven in the fiery chariot. We'll see how that works out.
Ive been treated awful in NC questioning Paul. They got so enraged accusing me of blasphemy that i now think he is the Antichrist that stood in the temple.
@@ChristinaFromUA-cam i just tell them I'm standing firm for a church that doesn't practice public prayer and ask them to let me know if they find one. They tend to leave me alone about it after that conversation.
Did Paul “invent" Christianity? He may in a sense have invented Christian theology. But there were other actors involved, including the Gospel writers, and others who did not make the canonical cut.
To claim this is correct would be to ignore John 3:15-17, which are words spoken by Jesus, not Paul. There’s no way around belief as the cornerstone of justification per Jesus’ own words. These two men are either ignorant or covering up facts just to discredit Paul. In fact, Jesus makes it clear that not only are good works NOT required, they aren’t even possible until AFTER being born again, which consists of belief in Jesus propitiation ALONE. When James clarifies this later, he is saying that good works will follow true belief…he is NOT saying that good works are required as part of being born again.
@Maximian Herculius it is clearly laid out in Galatians and Romans, but also just two verses earlier Jesus used the example of the serpent on the staff in the wilderness because the Israelites only had to believe enough to look at the serpent. It’s trust in what God says.
@Maximian Herculius there is no Matthew 35. Which I guess explains why you have the dumbest take on scripture I've ever seen. If you're referring to the sermon on the mount, the bit at the end is "therefore be perfect, as your father is perfect". You seem to be missing John 3:5 "Jesus answered, "very truly I tell you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are of the water and the Spirit" John 8:34 - "Very truly I tell you, every one who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever". You have to have the Holy Spirit, you HAVE to love others as Jesus loved his disciples (bare in mind how much he rebukes them), and you cannot enter the heavenly realm unless you are as morally perfect as the father. That is why the catholic system has been set up the way it has. Because Jesus commanded the disciples to set up the system, and that is the system they set up. And thus it works.
Many parallels between NT and vedic texts, which were said to be orated by Krshna (the Supreme One come in the flesh) to Arjuna. The spiritual law of dharma is righteous living and salvation of the soul is achieved through prayer and works. Dharma is essentially a spiritual debt system (sin is spiritual debt). So Jesus dying on the cross was essentially debt forgiveness, as debt keeps the soul earth bound (I know Christianity doesn't teach reincarnation, but I've always wondered if they say that everyone is a sinner when they're born... How can that be if they're a pure, fresh soul that's never been here before? Unless it means everyone that is born has previous spiritual debt that needs to be paid, the scales balanced. To return to the Godhead and achieve moksha, liberation of the soul and no more rebirth because debt has been paid.) The teachings of Krshna and Jesus are pretty identical. There are even matching verses from Revelation and the Gita. The prophecy of the last avatar of the Supreme One and the second coming of Christ.. both are described as riding a white horse with a flaming sword in hand to wipe unrighteousness and spiritual lawlessness from the earth at a time when world leaders have become thieves and plunderers and they applaud and support barbaric behaviors (things like looting during a storm come to mind).
You could think of it as spiritual debt, but it's kind of not really. Think about this. If you buy some strawberries, you keep the good strawberries and throw the bad ones in the garbage. The bad ones don't owe you a debt because they're rotten. That is how the Creator God of the Hebrews treats His Creations. When He sees something good, he keeps it. The bad ones get thrown aside. The difference that humans have that separate them from other beings is we have the ability to overcome our failures and learn and grow - we can make the rotting fruit a good fruit - which no other being can do. It is supposedly this fact that made Satan's head explode, and caused him to become proud and vile. If you read Enoch, you will see that God gave the dissenting angels and nephalim a chance to apologise and repent, and the good Nephalim were allowed to stay on earth (which is why they are referenced in the bible, and why the Jews at one point fight a race of giants), while the repenting angels went back to heaven, and then Azazel and the rest were rounded up by Michael and a small contingent of higher angels, and then sentenced. The truth is the second death mentioned in the bible is basically a garbage disposal. I mean, it might be a very terrible for the ones that get put into it - best case scenario you cease to exist, worst case you do still exist and get stuck in a terrible place for eternity. As we move into the beginnings of the end times, you will see a lot of good people dying. This is a mercy, that they do not have to face the fight to come. But the fight is coming and those of us still here will have to chose sides, and you will be surprised how many chose the side of the devil.
He used four Septuagint texts. His readers who he was writing to didn't have access to Hebrew texts and wouldn't understand the language anyway. Paul was using Septuagint texts in a similar way to how he approached the Hebrew texts, on the lookout for 'mysteries revealed in the current day'. In other words, retrospectively. He wanted to encourage the groups he was writing to to read through a lens of hindsight and perceptively. They couldn't do that with Hebrew texts, so he did it with the Greek version to show them and validate such a process.
It is an interesting think to hear people that study so hard and still not understand Paul’s writing. It is sad though that they seem to be dismissing Paul because of lack of understanding. I think that when you remove the Holy Spirit from how you search you really miss that the Spirit is inspiring the writing and that the spirit has to reveal what is being said.
So, given Matthew 5:18 (I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter will pass from the law until everything takes place.) pillars of Pauline Christianity are FLAWED ! ! ! - Steve Campbell, author of Historical Accuracy (three books on the historical accuracy and historical context of the bible)
I think you guys are misunderstanding Paul’s writings your trying to understand his writings based off of your understanding of the Torah. But you should base his teachings off of the understanding Jesus has of the Torah because he claims to follow Jesus not the Jews. You can find Jesus’s understanding of the Torah by reading the gospels. I hope someone replies to this.
Spiritual understanding doesn't come from contextual meanings: 1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, Act 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
One might argue that Paul was simply a Platonist, like Augustine would later become, and further, why Aquinas attempted to bring a more Aristotelean perspective back to the “faith.”
No doubt. I just thought I’d chime in when he said that Paul had no other rational apart from the Hebrew text concerning his position of faith, which I thought wasn’t quite accurate. A lot of this talk reminded me of the James v Paul classical tiff, which can also be seen as an Aristotle v Plato thing, or Body/Sense/Works v Reason/Mind/Faith thing, such that was, as you say, still philosophically relevant during the time.
I enjoyed your discussion. Some thoughts, maybe Paul found that he did not have faith, but was following the law, and after seeing Jesus, he then found faith, and with it he realised that was what mattered. Unless Abraham had preexisting faith without knowing God, which I find difficult to understand, but Abraham was rather impressive, I would think Abraham through faith and understanding be came righteous. So my guess is that Paul understands that without faith you have nothing even if you follow the law., yet Paul understood that the law is a gift, and without it evil could not have been condemned, and God could not show us his mercy. Your one large mistake is this. One seed vs many. From Chabd, Jewish sect, from their bible. Genesis 3:15 "And I shall place hatred between you and between the woman, and between your seed and between her seed. He will crush your head, and you will bite his heel. and between your seed and between her seed. He will crush your head, and you will bite his heel." Here is the hebrwe form the Jewis hbible. וְאֵיבָ֣ה | אָשִׁ֗ית בֵּֽינְךָ֙ וּבֵ֣ין הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה וּבֵ֥ין זַֽרְעֲךָ֖ וּבֵ֣ין זַרְעָ֑הּ ה֚וּא יְשֽׁוּפְךָ֣ רֹ֔אשׁ וְאַתָּ֖ה תְּשׁוּפֶ֥נּוּ עָקֵֽב: " Also you left out “the Woman” Eve committed the greatest sin in the bible. She corrupted Adam after knowing the consequences of her sin. The woman is Mary. Jesus’s mother. Mary from the age of three consecrated herself to the temple. A perpetual virgin. Joseph was provided to her by the temple Rabbi’s to be her guardian. “He will crush your head.” Singular. This can only be Jesus, since this is perpetual, and only the Messiah would do this. And again singular, From Chabad: Psalm 45: 7-8 “Your throne, O judge, [will exist] forever and ever; the scepter of equity is the scepter of your kingdom. 8You loved righteousness and you hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, anointed you with oil of joy from among your peers.” You als oforgot Isaiah 53, which I know is one of your favorite discussion based upon the dead sea scroll. " from the Dead sea scroll. It differs from Chabad.org. The main issue is this 53:11 "from the labor of his soul, he will see light and he will be satisfied..” The ESV translates the received text “he will see” (יִרְאֶה yir’eh). The metaphor “to see light” refers to having life." Isaiah 53 4Indeed, he bore our illnesses, and our pains-he carried them, yet we accounted him as plagued, smitten by God and oppressed. 5But he was pained because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his wound we were healed." So Yeshua bore the sins. Next in Isaiah 53 6We all went astray like sheep, we have turned, each one on his way, and the Lord accepted his prayers for the iniquity of all of us. 7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he would not open his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter he would be brought, and like a ewe that is mute before her shearers, and he would not open his mouth. 8 From imprisonment and from judgment he is taken, and his generation who shall tell? For he was cut off from the land of the living; because of the transgression of my people, a plague befell them." Again showing he died for the peoples sins. "10And the Lord wished to crush him, He made him ill; if his soul makes itself restitution, he shall see children, he shall prolong his days, and God's purpose shall prosper in his hand." Next11From the toil of his soul he would see, he would be satisfied; with his knowledge My servant would vindicate the just for many, and their iniquities he would bear. 12Therefore, I will allot him a portion in public, and with the strong he shall share plunder, because he poured out his soul to death, and with transgressors he was counted; and he bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors." So he died, and came back to life, and he had descends who he saved. This seems obvious. Proving singular not seeds, not t osay the plural existed for the Jewish people, but they as the world did as well screwed up, and God the Father fixed the world for those that asked for his mercy. And only God is perfect, so only God could save us. The Ox thing was Paul comparing himself to the Ox. Not exactly a put down for the Ox or animals. And remember the end thing that Jesus said the people of that generation would be killed, and Danial 9 24:26 said after the anointed is killed that the temple would be destroyed that the Holy of Holies would be decorated, and that the flood would come, meaning everyone would be killed. This all happened after Jesus was crucified. Bride of Crist means this. God is the only masculine, everything else is feminine and everyone does the will of God not their own. And since God is masculine, he saved us since we could not save ourselves. Also men are to lead the house and live for his wife, and the if the man deserves respect then the wife should give it, and to show the husband that God is above all, then through her devotion to the husband she shows the husband the error of his ways. Woman are rather impressive. Have a great day.

Nah, Catholic church was either created before Paul (Cathals) or centuries later as an apostate church depending how you look at the timing, but it's not like Jesus died and the next day the Catholics church sprang up. Calling Peter the "first pope" is ridiculous retroactive revisionism. It's also blasphemy as Christ said to call no man on earth your father, because your holy Father is in heaven (Matt 23:9).

Because he wasn’t. The ONLY issue Paul had with the disciples was if the Gentiles who had become Christians needed to keep the Jewish laws or not. However, this issue was solved during the council of Jerusalem.
Dr. Tabor is evidently from a Protestant background or culture. As a Catholic I was brought up with a far different way of understanding the faith. The Faith versus Works thing is not a thing for us. Following Christ is more emphasised. Personal Saviour is not really a concept we obsess about. Pope Benedict wrote a beautiful book about St. Paul which as well as being easy to read and understand is a fine explication of his thought. That being said, the Catholic faith doesn't depend as heavily on Paul as the Protesant faith seems to. Justification is not really the saving grave as much as love of the Lord is. God seeks and wants our free cooperation with him. Listening to these talks, I am (as well as impressed) struck that we don't hear that Jesus asked us to love each other as He loved us. He begged that his Church not be divided. Paul is a complex character with a huge contribution but he wasn't the only one struggling with understsnding what the Church should become in those early times. The Church is made up of men and women and no one gets it just right. Paul is a rightly a pillar of the Church but he didnt start a new religion, that's way above his actual influence. The Church included Paul's letters in the NT because they are obviously important and inspired. However, Paul visited existing churches around Asia Minor. Salvation is for all men including Jews. Love is the answer and if you think you know what God is thinking (like Luther) then you're definitely wrong. You won't get to God by human logic.
2 Peter 3:15-16… our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are HARD TO UNDERSTAND, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Some people question the authorship of 2nd Peter because Paul's techings contradict those of the Lord and the original disciples of the Lord. You ask yourself: If the Lord knew that there was going to be another apostle, why did He ask Peter to "feed my sheep" and also said to Peter: you are a rock and on this rock I will build my Church. Peter was the one chosen by the Lord to lead/teach/pastor his believers. Peter and the original disciples taught the things they HEARD and LEARNT from the Lord HIMSELF unlike Paul who claimed to know everything and to have no need of learning from the original disciples. Paul STUDIED scripture (from Gamaliel) but the original disciples walked with the Lord and learnt the Truth from Him. There is no contradiction in their teachings.

The words "by faith" are misleading. The Greek often says, "ek pistis," where the "ek" means "out of" or "out from." “Ek” is the opposite of the word “eis” which means “into.” In other words, righteousness, and hence justification (setting right that which was wrong), comes out from, or out of faith, as a product of faith. This means that genuine faith produces righteousness because it is a FUNCTIONAL faith. This faith is not a neutral intellectual belief, it is operational, active, and productive, causing a change from unrighteous living to righteous living. By this a person is justified - set right from a previous state of living wrong. It is amazing to hear some Bible teachers say things like, “Theology affects the way we live” and “You mostly live according to the theology you believe”, and yet these same teachers speak of “salvation by faith” as if faith as something that happens external to you and has no required byproduct of righteous living. "By faith" is often understood as nearly a passive idea, where we are made to have faith and God does something called "justification," a legal arrangement or accounting act on His end. That is not what is intended by "ek pistis." Teachers of Reformed Theology and Penal Substitutionary Atonement have a problem with active, functional faith because they typically see this as works. To avoid this, the weaker translation is used, changing “out from faith” to “by faith.” "Ek pistis" or "ek pisteo" is in Romans 1:17, 3:30, 4:16, 5:1, 9:30,32, 10:6, Gal. 2:16,3:7,11, Heb. 10:38, James 2:24. These all show that faith is presumed to be active - affecting the mind, will, emotions, and actions of the believer. There are passages that do say “by faith,” which is “dia pisteo,” but “dia” means "through,” so faith in these cases is still an active mechanism, not a passive idea. Peter states it well in Acts 15:9, “…having cleansed their hearts by faith.” In this case the “by faith” is “te pistei”, which is simply “the faith,” making the phrase say that faith is the active thing that cleansed their hearts. Faith is not some external property like a salve or clothing that has no internal effect on the person. The single exception is found in the example of James 2:17-20 where demons have inactive faith, a dead faith that produces nothing. The Old Testament under the law. This was like a giant painting of the coming Kingdom of Jesus Christ. The first kingdom was natural, the second kingdom spiritual. We that worship Jesus must worship him in spirit and in truth. Most bible teachers have naturalized a spiritual kingdom. The kingdom of God is within you.

A lot of misunderstandings that come from the teachings of Paul come from not understanding what the end of the age was. When you go to Matthew 24, Jesus prophesied the destruction of the temple. The disciples then ask Jesus, what are the signs of your coming and if the end of the age? Notice they are asking this in relation to the destruction of the temple. So they equated Christ's coming, the end of the age to the destruction of the temple. The temple was destroyed in 70 AD. The end of the age that is referenced is the end of the old covenant, the 613 laws, the levetical priesthood. All that ended because the temple was destroyed. That is why Christ was sent to the lost sheep of Israel and Paul to the Gentile nations. They understood the urgency of getting the gospel out in their generation because Jerusalem was going to be destroyed. That covenant age came to an end.

Even if Jesus is mis-read into Abraham’s story, what happened to the great nation and the land? Rome destroyed the geographical centre for the faith and Rome became the ‘faithful’ centre outside of Alexandria and Antioch; etc… and Abraham’s seed was dispersed throughout the Empire. Nothing lines up with Abraham’s promise.
@@josephposenecker9741 Of course it is… Rome eventually became Jerusalem after Rome destroyed Jerusalem some 300-400 years earlier. Take the very same scriptures and see how the dedicated religious Jews are still waiting for their MESSIAH. They have the same faith in GOD and rely upon their interpretation of the same scriptures… which were their’s to begin with. Don’t get me wrong; I understand the importance of faith, but I cannot come at faith derived from grabbing an isolated scripture from here and there and weaving a patchwork compilation to create a belief that is devoid of context… that can be done with any library of books… just as the bible is a library of individual books. How does it sit with you that Pope Francis is now warning Christians not to proselytise (try to convert) the non-Christian in the same way that the Apostle Paul did in the beginning? @@GravityBoy72 You shouldn't believe the lies. The real story is far different. There are many prophesies concening Jesus in the Old Testament, which was long before Paul existed, as the following shows. "God becoming Man foretold in Genesis. John refers to this baby’s arrival: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14). But why did God lower Himself to become one of us? The answer goes back to the early chapters of Genesis. God created all things in six consecutive normal-length days, and all “very good” (Genesis 1). But this perfection was spoiled when the first two humans in history, Adam and Eve, rebelled against God. God punished them and their descendants with death (Genesis 3:19; Romans 5:12). But in His mercy, God also promised there would be a saviour. While judging the Serpent, He made this intriguing promise: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15) Both Jewish and Christian commentators have understood the Offspring to be the Messiah-or in Greek, the Christ, the Anointed One. The Rabbis after Jesus referred to the “heels of the Messiah” in this passage, and the early church called it the Protevangelion, the first mention of the Gospel in the Bible. The Gospel means the good news of salvation in Christ. So this Offspring must be Jesus the Saviour! The greatest Gospel preacher in history, the Apostle Paul, firmly grounded his message in Genesis in the great Gospel/Resurrection chapter of 1 Corinthians 15: “the gospel I preached to you, which you received, … by which you are being saved … that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, …” (vv. 1-4) To explain the good news, as well as the reason for the Gospel, Paul gave the bad news that we need saving because we are sinners: “For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. … The last enemy to be destroyed is death. … Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. … The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. … Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.” (vv. 21-22, 26, 45-49). So even when preaching the Gospel, Paul firmly grounded this in the events of Genesis 3-the very parts that many people urge us to omit! One has to explain the bad news before one can relate the Good News!'

Tabor is a one-trick-pony who tries to prove his thesis of the creation of Christianity by Paul. But it does not work. Context matters and knowledge about Pauls thinking in his culture. The great discussion was with judaizers who basically said that faith in Jesus Christ is not important but keeping the mosaic law. And THAT is what Paul is opposing. Of course Paul presupposes that true faith has to be expressed with obedience. How do we know about Abrahams faith? By his obedience to what God told him. Abraham believed in Gods calling to leave the land of his father and go into the promised land by the guidance of God. If that would only have been something that happened in Abrahams head but did not result in doing what God said Paul could not have knowledge about Abrahams faith. WORKS OF FAITH are necessary. That is what the epistle of James is talking about. It is not contrary to Paul.
Simply not true. U just made it up. No J. ever would say that faith is not important. Works and faith are important. But everyone can believe, but not everyone is willed to do good works. And the law is in the works included.
The work of Paul was a super work. He was teaching people about one God. Most people didn't know about it, it was a dangerous job. The Jews knew about one God, but they refused to teach non Jews, until Jesus, and his followers came. Paul was a great and brave man . Paul wrote before the Roman pagans cutt off his head. " If I have all the money of this world and all the knowledge, and know all science, but I have no love and mercy for other, I am NOTHING ' Those charlatan who talk crap about Paul need to have a little more respect for the blood of this great human.
The work of Paul contradicted the sayings of Jesus. Jesus was a Jew who practiced a sect of Judaism. Paul discarded his Jewish ways. 1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses;3 therefore ALL that they tell you, DO and OBSERVE, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. The whole planet was Pagan they used to murder children, and young women to please theirs gods. Only the Israelites knew about one God. Now, Paul and his followers had a very hard and dangerous task. Imagine you and a bunch of Jews telling people that the Roman Emperor is not a God, that a caw is not a God or a bull and so on. They will send an army after you and your family to arrested you and take you to the Roman colliseum to be kill by Savage animal. It isn't easy to do that during the Roman era. The question every sincere seeker of spiritual truth must answer within his own heart is what position is superior in my understanding of the doctrine of Scripture? Is it Scripture itself or is it my intellectual ability, or Dr Tabor's, to dissect and parse it? That's not to say an anti-intellectual denial of logic and reason necessitates my putting my mind on the shelf when I consider difficulties in understanding Scripture. But it does mean that the historic view of inspiration includes progressive revelation and that one tenant of that includes the New Testament interprets the Old. It also holds to the doctrine of biblical inspiration that elevates the interpretations of the Apostle Paul above those of Dr. Tabor. I respect Dr Tabor but the writings of Paul in the Bible are not the musings of a Jewish Rabbi only but from the mind of God. If that is not so then we must pick and chose which we will believe and we make ourselves God. If the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to make an application of an Old Testament pericope in a way that seems out of context to its original setting I choose to concur with Him or at the least to reserve judgement and await further clarification. The thing about Tabor is that he so manifestly does 'take sides.' He's clearly someone with a very deferential approach to the rabbis, and a hostile one towards Paul. In fact, Paul's interpretation of Habbakuk is entirely in line with the range of interpretation the rabbis could pursue, and the rabbis would themselves often fly very wide of the mark in interpreting Scripture in order to justify religious beliefs and practices, like their view that Rebekah was 3 when she married Isaac, 3 being the age at which a marriage can be contracted according to their understanding of Jewish law. Similarly, while the Bible is clear that Solomon fell into idolatry, the rabbis clearly knew better and said this Biblical claim was false. And Genesis 15:6 means God attributed righteousness to Abraham, not Abraham attributing righteousness to God. Paul's interpretation is entirely correct. Even the Jewish scholar Nahum Sarna in his Genesis commentary argues quite decisively against the interpretation that righteousness is being attributed to God there. Paul doesn't misrepresent the passage in the slightest, he's demonstrably correct. Also, regarding his two interpretations of seed/sperma/zera' again, rabbinic exegesis has peshat, literal, superficial meaning and midrash, an expansive and more esoteric meaning. Tabor will let the rabbis off the hook for the same things he blames Paul for. And on 1 Corinthians 9:10, Paul clearly alludes to the traditional understanding in that verse, but is forcefully making the point that the principle applies far more strongly to humans.
And Peter said there would be days like this as it is written: "And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the WISDOM GOD GAVE HIM- speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are HARD TO UNDERSTAND, and those who are IGNORANT and UNSTABLE have TWISTED HIS LETTERS TO MEAN SOMETHING QUITE DIFFERENT, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And THIS WILL RESULT IN THEIR DESTRUCTION." (2 Peter 3:15-16) Paul didn't teach something different. He taught the gospel as it is clearly written what he taught in Acts 13:17-39. Peter had a similar speech in Acts 2 as did Stephen in Acts 7. Now, zeroing in on the following as it is written: “Brothers, listen! WE ARE HERE TO PROCLAIM that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight-something the law of Moses could never do." (Acts 13:38-39). Now let's see if this is any different than what Christ preached as he himself said as it is written: Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.”"Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ You are witnesses of all these things." (Luke 24:44-48). If Paul preached a different gospel other than what Christ preached, tell us: How was Paul able to perform miracles, signs and wonders up to and including raising Eutychus from the dead? I was a false convert for 53 years until God had mercy on me and gave me His Spirit. I didn't understand the letters of Paul at first as it seemed to be on contradiction after another. I was using human wisdom until the Spirit of God was able to explain spiritual truths to me (1 John 2:26-27) just like he did with Paul. The apostle Paul was a Pharisee who studied under Gamliel and knew the OT better than anyone just like Christ. Why do you think the Lord chose him for his mission as it is written: "But the Lord SAID, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take MY MESSAGE to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.” (Acts 9:15-16) “When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from HUMAN WISDOM. INSTEAD, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. IT ALL SOUNDS FOOLISH TO THEM AND THEY CAN’T UNDERSTAND IT, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor. 2:13-16)
🙏💚🧡😱James, an idea is going throught time in me. Where were the Jewish texts, library where Jesus and Apostles, Paul, were finding their references to past?.... I think the Temple complex, but so Jerusalem was a center of very old knowledge, about history, philosophy about the Faith, but also old prediction, sciences, All a particular knowledge, around the Torah knowledge. So they were able to meet on the stairs of the Temple, after have studied some of the documents, creating a weapon against corruption of the temple, the elites in power outside. In that, some missing voices were not leaders but were able to discuss about Wisdom, some as Mary, as a mother were perhaps prohibited to enter inside the Temple?... Had she learnt to read?, But I think she were there, on the stairs, and her advice was listened attentively. Paul meeting with the group, were not very interested by her, but more about his proper vision to glue it to the Jesus story narrative. So, I remember you went on those stairs, and I got the image, and for me, up to those stairs, inside the temple, how many history by text have been lost, that founded the Jesus group knowledge..... 😱🙏
The scripture texts were to be found in the synagogues. Paul was a Rabbi. He had studied them. Luke 4:16 (Jesus) then went to Nazʹa·reth, where he had been brought up, and according to his custom on the Sabbath day, he entered the synagogue and STOOD UP TO READ. 17 So the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him, and HE OPENED THE SCROLL and found the place where it was written: 18 “Jehovah’s spirit is upon me, because he anointed me to declare good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and a recovery of sight to the blind, to send the crushed ones away free, 19 to preach Jehovah’s acceptable year.” 20 With that he rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were intently fixed on him. 21 Then he began to say to them: “Today this scripture that you just heard is fulfilled.”
@@proudpharisee5303 : Paul when known as Saul, was instrumental in getting letters from the High Priest to destroy all Jesus' disciples. He could only do so if he was someone with authority himself. The historian Luke writes, Acts 22:1 “Men, brothers and fathers, hear my defense to you now.” 2 Well, when they heard that he was addressing them in the HEBREW LANGUAGE, they kept all the more silent, and he said: 3 “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Ci·liʹcia, but EDUCATED in this city at the feet of Ga·maʹli·el, instructed according to the strictness of the ancestral Law, and zealous for God just as all of you are this day. 4 I PERSECUTED THIS WAY (ie Christianity) TO THE POINT OF DEATH, binding and handing over to prisons both men and women, 5 as the HIGH PRIEST and all the assembly of elders CAN BEAR WITNESS. Why are you placing your faith and salvation in a theology which was intended for only one specific group of people? The Old Testament is intended for only the Hebrew people.
Paul didn't create Christianity, Vespasian and his son Titus did. Vespasian was likely Paul in the New Testament since it says in Titus 1:4 that Titus was one of the younger men whom Paul discipled and described as his 'son in the faith that we share'. Paul's character was taken from Saul from the Old Testament.
It is all about our actions from the beginning: Genesis 4:7 NKJV If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” 1 John 3:7-9 NKJV Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. [8] He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. [9] Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
In a discussion on Islamic norms concerning marriage, I learned tnat very young women who had just begun to menstruate could join the house of a high-status man and be considered married to him though the marriage would not be consummated at that time. There were definite rights and requirements in marriage. for both parties, often written out. A modern day Jewish wedding under the Huppah canopy is an actual signing of an actual physical contract. The groom must defend and protect the bride. It is understood. So, being a bride of Jesus probably meant being protected by Jesus as a member of his household.
Paul never taught anything that went against Torah nor taught angle convert in any of his churches. This is his sworn testimony to the court of Rome. Rome and Alexandria twisted his writings as 2Pet 3:15-16 says was already happening in his time.
2 Peter 3:15-18 “And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
Acts 24:14 tells what Paul believe & taught. "But this I confess to you, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, *BELIEVING ALL things which are WRITTEN in *THE LAW and in the *PROPHETS."
you argue that God's imputation of righteousness in Romans 1 is a wrong appropriation of Hab. But not every scholar agrees that Paul is talking about imputation.
2Pe 3:16 KJV - "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."
We observed the feast of Saint Stephen yesterday, and his murder, like Jesus, was at the behest of the Freedmen rabbis. The conflicts that true followers had with temple authorities, and later papal authorities were continuous, and ironically produced the martyrs needed to advance the mythologies through the symbolic power of self-sacrifice for faith and adherence to the most fundamental messages preached by Jesus. This is a dangerous thing to people in power.
Interesting point about Paul saying or implying that God doesn’t care about animals- the fact that God commanded the Israelites to allow their animals to rest on the sabbath is evidence to me that He cares about them and so the muzzling verse is simply about not muzzling an ox.
In Paul, we understand even today that we are going to have that great transformation, so we should not be concerned in the present age about whether we are slave or free, male or female, etc. The idea did not only make sense if Jesus had come back forty years after his resurrection; it still makes perfect sense today, and for the same reasons Paul said.
Just wondering just wondering James Tabor do you believe that the Father God can protect His word and if so why would He allow the words in the Gospel of Matthew to include the prophecy of Jesus coming from Egypt. Is Gods word inerrant or is the New Testament just men telling a story that they all died to protect?

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said to him: “Go! because this man is a chosen vessel to me to bear my name to the nations as well as to kings and the sons of Israel. 16 For I will show him plainly how many things he must suffer for my name.”
How could Jesus' appointee Paul teach contrary doctrines to what Jesus taught.

@@edwardkuenzi5751 maybe you can read Qur'an.
@@StevenE1972 how? if you'd plz explain...
Not true
Wasn’t the Temple in Jerusalem destroyed 40 years after Jesus death and resurrection? That can’t be a coincidence, right?
The reality is is what we call Chrisitianty today is actually based on the gnosticism of Paul. Paul was a initiiate of the gnostic mysteries and what Chrsiitanity is today is largely based on his particlar interpretation of the gnostic mysteries with was mostly based on faith than knowledge

@@tongakhan230 That James' version of Christianity would be irrelevant and some visionary would come along and change everything. Pretty big oversight by Jesus.

Tabor is claiming there is an incongruence within the text by Paul. To analyse these fallacies, we will see that faith must always come before righteousness, otherwise righteousness is in vain. This concept is easily outlined in Hebrews:
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
What bullshit you are on about 😅

@@vinlondon8904 I think we do agree for the most part, but to put it simply; Abraham
believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

Next in Isaiah 53
6We all went astray like sheep, we have turned, each one on his way, and the Lord accepted his prayers for the iniquity of all of us.
You are making things up😅
Hab. 2 is a prophesy of Paul's coming and his teachings of lawlessness against Yahweh's Eternal Law.
Read Hab 2:5 with Paul in mind:
Whose "soul is lifted up and not upright in him." The false teacher that would "gathers all nations to himself". The one who would teach apostasy against the Law and to "tresspass with wine." (Tit. 1:7). Paul was a prolific traveler who "neither keepeth at home."
Indeed, many Christians today live solely by his false faith. (Hab. 2:4)
Paul is quick to misquote the prophets and ignore other truths in the very same chapter.
"But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him." (Hab. 2:20)
But Paul says:
"However, the most High does not dwell in temples made with hands."
So pick carefully who you will follow. You cannot serve both Yahweh and Paul. Keep the commandments and do works worthy of repentance as Yeshua and his brother Jacob taught or vainly hope that your faith will be sufficient as the wicked teacher taught.
5But he was pained because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his wound we were healed." These are some of the most interesting interviews on UA-cam and I’m not religious
try Richard Carrier for even more interest imho.
So interesting and informative. Thank you Dr. Tabor
I need to watch this more than once, thx for sharing!
These verses are being hidden or ignored by almost everyone~they are quoting Jesus, Paul, and John from the BIBLE so we can't hide, delete, or ignore them.
The love of God constrainteth us ~Perfect love casts out fear ~God's mercy endures forever~ the Faith of Jesus overcomes the world.
These verses seem extra important and encouraging~
Savior of ALL men SPECIALLY those that believe.
1Cor.15:22 ~ As in Adam "ALL" die even so in Christ shall "ALL" be made alive.
1Tim.2:3-4 ~ God our Savior, who will have "ALL" men to be saved and come to the knowledge of truth.
John 17:2 ~ As thou hast given him power over "ALL" flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. (Jesus is given ALL)
Luke 23:34 ~ Then said Jesus, Father forgive them for they know not what they do.
Col.1:20 ~...by him [Jesus] to reconcile "ALL" things unto himself...
Rom.5:18 ~ Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon "ALL" men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon "ALL" men unto justification of life.
1Tim.4:10 ~...Trust in the living God, Who is the Savior of "ALL" men specially those that believe. [*Specially*]
2Cor.5:18-21,Eph.1:9-10, Col. 1:18-20, Isa.19, 1John2:1-2, and others~
Eternal and everlasting appear 65ish times in the NT ~Only twice does it exclusively mean eternal Rom.1:20 "eternal power and Godhead", and Jude 6 "everlasting chains". The rest of the times it goes to eon and age, ages and ages in Strongs Concordance.
Many of God's punishments are remedial(to remedy) ~given over to Satan so the flesh may be destroyed that the spirit saved. Smite them to heal them.
The fire of God is also often referred to as purifying.
Why is this so rarely mentioned or pointed out?
"ALL" is easily defined ~It has to be more then a mis-translation, or misunderstanding.
Are we supposed to ignore these clear statements of hope & encouragement.
regardless of your belief ~few are absolutely positive ~so this is at the least ~a tiny bit of condemnation and negativity removed.
The love of God constrainteth us ~
Possibly a lie we are being told so "They"[maybe Satan],can retain power, and to keep us unsure, divided, fearful, and thus obediently following.
Kept Ultimately Lost.
Honestly think about it... Something is off with much of what many teach ...
Also consider this~
1Cor 4:7...what do you have that you did not receive...[God made us]~
Phil.2:13 For it is God that works in you both to will(want) and to do(preform)of his good pleasure.
Heb.10:36 ...need patience....after you have done the will of God, [
This question is relevant if you believe and if you don't believe yet~it's still important and you will agree one day.
UA-cam served this up as I was preparing my Xmas meal for tomorrow. 2 years ago I'd have run to switch it off with my floury hands lol, whereas tonight I was captivated and this brought me joy .... so much I've never considered or seen, helping me see all this with new open eyes. It played straight after the Xmas eve service livestream from my old church which listened to out of sentimentalism ... so was perfect timing 👌 😆
The internet is to us, like the telescope was to Galileo.
So you were Xuslim all along?
28:08 ok that is it. That is stupid. Paul just said there is no man and woman, and the idea of the bride of Jesus, you take it literally, and it is uncomfortable for you because you are a man (and a bride is literally meant for a woman in a marriage), but if you are a woman I bet you would not mind.
This was not meant as literal.
Bride - Marriage - two become ONE
Is it not all believers' ultimate goal to be ONE with Adonai?
The bride of Jesus is a figurative way to say to be one with him to be one with God because he is ONE with God (the Father).
The point is these mistakes (including some of Tabor's assessments about Paul's belief) are due to misinterpreted figurative as literal.
Thank you Dr. Tabor🥰
@@DrMARDOC
Martyrdom for a belief exists in most organized religions.
I was just having a discussion with someone yesterday about the seed and the seeds. For several years, I’ve had a problem with Paul’s idea of the word seed.
Faith without works is dead. Show me your faith without works, and I'll show you my faith, by my works.
Paul agrees with James in Romans, as he says the just shall live by faith, so they must prove their faith, and only doers of the law shall be justified.
James said as much "Faith without (the) works (of the Law) is dead." Works does not mean what most think..
@@johntiggleman4686 Perhaps, visiting widows and orphans in their affliction and keeping yourself unspotted from the world?
PAULS CONVERSION STORY
Act 9:6-7 and he trembling and astonished said lord what will thou have me to do?and the lord said unto him, arise and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. AND THE MEN WHICH JOURNEYED WITH HIM STOOD SPEECHLESS HEARING A VOICE BUT SEEING NO MAN..........now read

Act 26 :13-14 at midday o king I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun shining around about me AND WHEN WE WERE ALL FALLEN TO THE EARTH, I HEARD A VOICE SPEAKING UNTO ME and saying in the hebrew tongue Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Galatians 1:10 for do I now persuade me, or God?or do I seek to please men?for if I please men, I should not be a servant of christ........now read 1 Corinthians 10:33 even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved........now
Colossians 3:9 ..lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.........and now
Roman's 3-7 for if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory than why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
Definition of a hypocrite
1)a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2)a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings
1 Corinthians 9:20 and unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews;to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law.
1 Corinthians 9:21. To them that are without law being not without law ,unto God, but under the law to christ, that I might gain them that are without law
Paul claims to have become as under the law and then without the law, which puts on a false appearance and acts in contradiction to his stated beliefs or feelings. Paul is a confessed hypocrite by the very definition of the word. Paul says it himself, he became all things to all men.
2 Timothy 1:15 (one of the last letters Paul wrote)
This thou knoweth, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me,of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. Paul was rejected by the 12 apostles .Read John and Matthew and Yeshua's s words .Follow Yeshua not Paul. And yes Yeshua was and is Devine.
too many misunderstandings here to address them all.
please consider: Paul heard the voice speak in Hebrew. Most likely he was the only one who spoke Hebrew being of the educated class. The others prob spoke Aramaic which was of no help in understanding Hebrew.
Sir Who did Paul write letters to ?
THIS is the answer about tsadik that I had searched for such a long time, and my search lead me to the true history and to eventually leave the camp. THANK YOU for finally answering my first, and last, question professor Tabor!
Thank you Derek for inviting James Tabor to tell us about the biblical stuff...
Even David in Psalm 32 (and others) looked forward to a day when YHWH's righteousness would be imputed on him and not of his own works. This was not a "new religion" from Paul. This was the Gospel!
What do mean Gospel? Paul's writings predate the gospels, so there's not really a clear picture of the "gospel" before Paul.
Read Hyam Maccoby's excellent book, "The Myth-Maker. Paul and the Invention of Christianity". (1987)
Nothing is original these days!
Peterson doesn't have any original insights. Tabor does. That's the difference.
shtick ,bozo,
I wonder if Paul wasn’t making a straw man to convert gentiles from paganism which tended to be very transactional.
@@nkelley3 if you dont know about this,
Then you have yet many things to learn..
Pauls Jesus was not a human. It was a celestial ideal being.
@@ZubairKhan-vs8fe Wherein lies the problem, as it goes against the Synoptic Gospels oremise of Yeshua's humanity.
Hmm. This message might not be too welcome in the Southern Baptist churches here in the currently blizzard conditioned Deep South.
Finally!!! Genesis 15 correctly translated, as it should be !!! Thank you so much !!!
@Maximian Herculius So you’re saying anyone who helps someone hungry automatically gets into heaven?
@Maximian Herculius except Jesus states “he who believes not is condemned already.”
You seem to be missing
John 3:5 "Jesus answered, "very truly I tell you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are of the water and the Spirit"
John 8:34 - "Very truly I tell you, every one who sins is a slave to sin.

Spiritual understanding doesn't come from contextual meanings:
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Act 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
One might argue that Paul was simply a Platonist, like Augustine would later become, and further, why Aquinas attempted to bring a more Aristotelean perspective back to the “faith.”
I would say not just Paul but the whole world back then was influenced by Greek philosophy including the early believers.
Augustine of Hippo you mean? He was a blasphemous lying politician masquerading as a holy man.
Next in Isaiah 53
6We all went astray like sheep, we have turned, each one on his way, and the Lord accepted his prayers for the iniquity of all of us.

@@nkelley3 In Romans 10 Paul says Christ is the end of the law but the Lord tells us in Matthew 5 that He did not come to abolish the law.
Paul also encourages church leaders to expect pay (remuneration) for their work but the Lord says heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers. freely you have received freely give.
But Peter later agreed with Paul . The disciples were actually confused as to what to preach after Jesus left them. Remember Peter had a dream n God telling him to eat animals which were forbidden
To avoid this, the weaker translation is used, changing “out from faith” to “by faith.”
"Ek pistis" or "ek pisteo" is in Romans 1:17, 3:30, 4:16, 5:1, 9:30,32, 10:6, Gal.

About to read Galatians and consider myself better armed with a clearer perspective to understanding the text.I will be buying the book.

One Gospel of Jesus presented by Paul in 1Tim.2:3-6 States God will save all~one God~ one Mediator ~>Jesus~ to be testified in due time.
"IN DUE TIME" SEEM to imply that some added understanding will be given concerning What Jesus accomplished ~
And people want it hidden or ignored ~the following verses state that "all will be saved"
Savior of ALL men SPECIALLY those that believe.
Quoting JESUS, PAUL, JOHN ~EVEN RED LETTERS ~
1:18-20, Isa.19, 1John2:1-2,
and many many other "all saved" leaning Biblical statements.

1Cor 4:7...what do you have that you did not receive...[God made us]~
Phil.2:13 For it is God that works in you both to will(want) and to do(preform)of his good pleasure.
Heb.10:36 ...need patience....after you have done the will of God, [

@@josephposenecker9741 Of course it is… Rome eventually became Jerusalem after Rome destroyed Jerusalem some 300-400 years earlier.
We can all weave a convincing tale when we pick, choose and read into any acknowledged sacred writings and apply such a tale to history… How many religions are formed that way… and how many times can one re-interpret prophecy to fit current circumstances?
That is what every ‘thinking’ person is wrestling with.
It is easy for those who just ‘know in their heart,’ whether one is a Christian, Muslim, Hindu… or even Atheist… who knows the ‘truth’ without considering things that may be outside their comprehension or comfort zone.
There are others who actually seek unobtainable truth, ever realising that it is all ‘faith,’ yet enjoy the mental thrill of chasing it… to a conclusive end… just as some would enjoy the thrill of learning a new song on their guitar.
As for one of your other comments about ‘people on UA-cam possibly having an agenda,’ you are quite correct.
Whether, in this case, the religious sphere, a presenter is a Christian scholar or a non-Christian scholar, it is all about getting enough exposure in their sphere of academic study, to gain a large enough audience… to sell their books. Just like a musician who is not content to apply him/her self to an ordinary job, the scholar only makes a living by being accepted as guest speaker… correlated with a music gig… or selling their books… or music.
Neither cares about the lives of an audience that they will never meet… but… they have to pay for their PHD and/or their lifestyle without getting their hands dirty with a pick and shovel… or whatever the rest of us do for a living. - that also goes for the Christian scholar who has invested a lifetime in one book.

While judging the Serpent, He made this intriguing promise:
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
Both Jewish and Christian commentators have understood the Offspring to be the Messiah-or in Greek, the Christ, the Anointed One. The Rabbis after Jesus referred to the “heels of the Messiah” in this passage, and the early church called it the Protevangelion, the first mention of the Gospel in the Bible. The Gospel means the good news of salvation in Christ. So this Offspring must be Jesus the Saviour!
The greatest Gospel preacher in history, the Apostle Paul, firmly grounded his message in Genesis in the great Gospel/Resurrection chapter of 1 Corinthians 15:
“the gospel I preached to you, which you received, … by which you are being saved … that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, …” (vv. 1-4)
To explain the good news, as well as the reason for the Gospel, Paul gave the bad news that we need saving because we are sinners:
“For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.

If he was to be studied under by every Christian, then the bible will surely be carrying his name written among the words that it currently holds.
Next in Isaiah 53
6We all went astray like sheep, we have turned, each one on his way, and the Lord accepted his prayers for the iniquity of all of us.

God's prophet is one to whom he has spoken, in a dream or vision; can you say if the prophet you have referred to, as having spoken, was spoken to, by God, in a dream or vision??
Either James is too polite or I am too dense. They didn't seem like major objections?
The bedrock of the Christian faith was not built by paul, but by Jesus. Paul merely affirmed what Jesus had already stated:
Joh 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
Joh 3:15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
Joh 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John became jesus lol, we already know Paul but who wrote John
Jesus says to keep the law for eternal life and to do what the Rabbis tell you. The opposite of what Paul says
Matthew 23 1Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:2"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. *3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you*
1 John 2:4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his *commandments* is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
Jhn 3:36 - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; *whoever does not obey* the Son shall not see life
1 John 5:3, NASB: For this is the love of God, that *we keep His commandments;* and His commandments are not burdensome.

Ezekiel 18:9 ►He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my *laws.* *That man is righteous;* he will surely live
Deuteronomy 6:25 For we will be counted as *righteous* when we obey *all the commands* the LORD our God has given us
Genesis 26:5", because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, *my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”*
James 2:24 As you can see, a man is *justified by his deeds* and not by faith alone.
" If I have all the money of this world and all the knowledge, and know all science, but I have no love and mercy for other, I am NOTHING '
Those charlatan who talk crap about Paul need to have a little more respect for the blood of this great human.
Matthew 23:1-3
@@waitstill7091 Jesus said to his disciples to go in to the pagan world and teach people about one God. Why didn't anyone of the Jews bedside Paul and the others disciples went to the Gentiles to bring them to God? Why even today there are not Jews missionaries outreaching people in the world ? So talk small about difference between Paul and Jesus, it's not important because Paul did what Jesus asked the apostle to do..
@@johndefalco7454 Actually, Jesus and the apostles taught their disciples to follow the laws of Moses, not forsake them.
18 And the following day Paul went in with us to 1aJames, and all the elders were present.19 After he had greeted them, he began to relate one by one the things which God had done among the Gentiles through his bministry.20 And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law;21 and they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to FORSAKE MOSES, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs.22 “What, then, is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come.23 “Therefore do this that we tell you. We have four men who 1aare under a vow;24 take them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so that they may have their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law.
Acts 21:18-24
@@waitstill7091 I understand what you said, let us take a look at it from a less religion point of view. Common sense tell us, that the main concern of Paul and the other was to teach a pagan world about one only God. Paul had to be flexible with the new believer. Many mosaic law were to hard for the pagans. The Roman and the pagans executed Paul and many of his followers. That is the reason one 2000 years later can't say negative thing about such a man who died trying to make this planet a better place.
@@johndefalco7454 Paul only went to the Gentiles after he was rejected by the Jews. The Jews knew their Hebrew scriptures and rightly rejected his "justification by faith alone" gospel. The Gentiles were not so fortunate.
46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first; since you repudiate it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.
Acts 13:46
Amazing! Thank you 👏👏👊👍🙏
The question every sincere seeker of spiritual truth must answer within his own heart is what position is superior in my understanding of the doctrine of Scripture? Well said
The thing about Tabor is that he so manifestly does 'take sides.' He's clearly someone with a very deferential approach to the rabbis, and a hostile one towards Paul.
And Peter said there would be days like this as it is written:
"And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. And THIS WILL RESULT IN THEIR DESTRUCTION." (2 Peter 3:15-16)
Paul didn't teach something different. He taught the gospel as it is clearly written what he taught in Acts 13:17-39. Peter had a similar speech in Acts 2 as did Stephen in Acts 7. Now, zeroing in on the following as it is written:
“Brothers, listen! WE ARE HERE TO PROCLAIM that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight-something the law of Moses could never do." (Acts 13:38-39).
Now let's see if this is any different than what Christ preached as he himself said as it is written:
Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.”"Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
Why do you think the Lord chose him for his mission as it is written:
"But the Lord SAID, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take MY MESSAGE to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.” (Acts 9:15-16)
“When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from HUMAN WISDOM. For,
“Who can know the LORD’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”
But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor.

It is all about our actions from the beginning: Genesis 4:7 NKJV

Little children, let no one deceive you.
2 Peter 3:15-18
“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
Yes but the thing is it is debated whether the second epistle attributed to Peter was even written by Peter.
Paul thought that the second coming of Christ is too close that he expected to be participant of it in his lifetime.
