As a current Sheriff Motor Officer (10 years and counting) this was great. We had Harleys for my first 6 years before swapping to BMW's. We used to ride the Harleys and now the BMWs on local mountain biking trails. Some of the most fun you can have on a street bike!
The best thing I ever seen was my big brother spinning donuts (big slow motion) in the dew covered grass on his 1966 electroglide stroker one morning ! Never took his feet off running boards . Just big wips in slow motion . He played for about 10-15 minutes before heading to work . Great video guys !
I've been loving this Sherf department series! It was especially cool becuase, I live in Huntsville, and seeing you guys drive through it on the way back to Pennsylvania was really cool. Love the videos!
That's not always the case what you said some boys got bigger toys than men don't you forget that and the price it's not always a factor you'll be surprised what change in your pocket to get you. Some people pocket change is more than some people savings those are the guys that can buy the new and brand new. But the normal guy probably would just be happy with anything and have fun like me .. and if you want to act like a the big old dogs will be treated like a big (old) dog . Some pups have a bigger bite
Was a motorcycle cop for 20 yrs riding the Roadking PI. We did a lot of dirty and trail riding pretty much like this video. These FLH's are bulletproof and can take a lot of abuse. Only damage the bikes take is the kickstand springs get ripped off so we always carry extra springs and vise grips to put them back on.
Years ago I rode an Ultra Classic for two weeks in Australia. Some of the back "roads" were exactly like that trail y'all rode on. There were a few times I realized I had no business being on those roads, but it was either go forward or try and go back the way we came...always go forward! I was surprised at how the Ultra was able to kinda make it through at all. The person I was with was riding an BMW adventure bike and didn't have the pure adventure I had. I would never do it again, but it was something I'll remember forever. Also kangaroos are jerks and want to kill you.
I agree roos are jerks. I was installing Photo equipment outside Perth. I was staying in a little bungalow and made the mistake of taking food back to my quarters. I was awakened in the middle of the night by a kangaroo leaned back on his tail, kicking and smashing my front door. A nice man with a cattle prod and a noose dragged him away.

We had no choice but to keep going to find fuel, those darn things kept hopping along side us and would instantly jump in front of us. Almost crashed a few times. But Australia is a gorgeous place and the people were wonderful. Hope to return again one day.

I gotta say, this is your best video yet, im my opinion. I started out dirt riding when I was 8-9 years old, I'm 73 years old now and just bought another Harley Sportster XL1200R, back in January 2022, it's a 2004 with only 4,500 miles on it. I'm doing a few alterations on it to suit me and I think it's going to be fine for now, depends on how smooth it rides these old bones. Thanks for sharing these videos with all of us.
Nice to see that they're capable of this. There's videos out there telling people to never take your bagger on a gravel road. I've never been one to keep my vehicles shined up. I've taken my Ultra Classic on dirt, gravel and grass several times, Just have to be careful. Same off-road rules apply. But after seeing this, can tell that it really digs in due to the weight even with the street tires and the torque can pull you through. Reminds me of a big military transport diesel, lol. If you had ADV tires, it seems like a pretty capable bike if you can handle the weight and lack of handling. Now lets put a snow mobile track on it! At the same time you're putting a lot of stress on a complicated bike that wasn't meant for this type of abuse. But props for showing it can be done. It's a confidence booster for me when I'm on a big Harley.
welcome to the early days of road trips, they had better tires for the conditions but ended up in a lot of the same predicaments :) If you have rear footrests/pegs, try using them for the jumps, it centers your weight better and the nose won't dive as bad coming down. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun, awesome.
Classic trials racing is early 20th Century cars off-roading on rocky or muddy trails. Pavement is relatively new, this is what everyone had to deal with back then.
Sean, this was an absolutely crazy episode, but with pleasant and surprising results. Dishing out all that punishment to these bike in their senior years with all that mileage behind them, was beyond belief. How they they took it was nothing short of incredible. This exemplifies the "long arm of the Law!" I have a new respect for Harleys. You and Craig didn't do too bad either ! Respect. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

I rode the Dalton Hwy in Alaska to prudoe bay with my FLHR Road King and my friend in a Sporster XL1200C, with rain 50% of the time, it was the most challenging and fun ride of my life in a Harley, will never do it again, but I love it. Your video brought many memories 👍👍😁
IDEAS: Find some real police to meet you at the drag strip to race you? Or see if they will let you try to pass the qualification session they have to to become motorcycle cops? The latter would be interesting :)
Every motorcycle safety course I ever took, including the state safety course, was a police motorcycle qualification session, and they were all BS. No normal person rides like that.

I have a Harley FLHP-I (Police Road King)... The air suspension single seat is great for long rides... But it is most definitely not a bike for slippery or soft surfaces... I was repositioning it in my driveway a few years ago and needed to pull into the grass to do it, but it had been raining the previous day and the ground was soft... When I put my foot down, it sunk and started sliding... What *should* have been a minor issue ended up breaking a rib because the rather pronounced beavertail on the handgun I was carrying caught my bottom right rib and broke it... Painful, so I just turn the bike off and lay there under it for a few minutes... And then I had the fun of picking up the 800+ lb bike with a broken rib and putting it back in the garage... I hadn't heard about the saddle bags falling off... I have noticed that the "quick connect" bolts that they use will sometimes come loose, but my bike has basically a cage that goes around them so that even if they came loose, they would stay in the "cage" and I would notice them rattling before they bounced out... I was working on my bike the other day and had trouble getting the "quick connect" bolts to line up or connect on one side of the bike... I finally gave up and replaced them with 3/8" stainless steel carriage bolts with wing nuts on the inside of the bags... Maybe not as quick to detach as the "quick connects" (when they are working correctly), but they are definitely more fool-proof than the "quick connects"...
Just finished doing an IBA SS-1000 ride the other day... Let's just say that 1000 miles within 24 hours was a lot less painful on my body 40 years ago... :( Getting old sucks...
Sean, you never disappoint!!!!! Watching this video means I can NEVER again brag about taking my Honda CB350 with street tires off the road on the Appalachian Trail back in the early '70's. ;-)
My 1971 Honda CL350 convinced me mud axle deep anyway was bad. Fun factor went away in deep mud. The weight of a Harley... Rode a 1973 XL250 which was a serious joy. Then I had a 1977 BMW 750 dresser and a riding buddy that loves dirt roads and led us to some not deep enough to stop mud and some scary downhills. I got to ride an 1986 Kawasaki KLR 650. The long travel suspension was a lark till I tried to cross too much soft sand. It spilled and then I had to lift it up and work it up a bit. Not something I would want to do alone.
Shawn, in 1972-73 I was ridding a 125 thru the woods near a campground we were staying at and all the sudden I heard a heavy, smooth, bike behind me. It was a Honda 750/4 cylinder motorcycle… we trail bikes around for a couple hours in this sandy/loamy soil and he only had trouble with strong uphill grades due to the weight… I wasn’t surprised at your success… 😂
A grandson and myself did over 30 miles on a "road" in northern Nevada that was 6"-10" of mud in 2020. We past a car that was stuck buried to the frame about 1/4 of the way through. We were riding Honda VTX's Mine had Harley bags and a large sissybar touring bag of luggage and 2 gallons of spare gas. We were both on reserve at the start of the mud so we had to use those 2 gallons. Neither of us fell once, but I did go into the ditch beside the road once when caught by a rut that guided me off. I was surprised that it climbed out of the ditch under it's own power, I didn't think it would. It was quite an adventure and we were committed because we didn't have enough gas to go back. We arrived at the next gas station with about a quart each left. Oh it was raining and in the upper 30's. We had rain gear and warm clothing. I actually was hot from all the energy and effort it took. I have jumped my VTX 23' on dirt track too. I have jumped and wheelied every Bike I have owned at least once, LOL. I am just a kid in his mid 60's. :^)
Weld both bikes together side by side but have them running independently of each other, then take them off road. I don't think it's going to be as much fun as I am imagining but if you don't try you don't know.
Still radically laughing. Great job. At 62 years of age I’ve owned a lot of Harleys. None of them have ever failed me. Anyways great video. You guys keep it up, and keep doing the crazy stuff us older guys can’t do anymore.
Enjoyed your video. It built my confidece , as to how well a crusier performs off road on street tires with experienced riders. Now , I can put my Honda VTX 1300 to the test but have to be a wee bit careful at age 75. Once again great video.
It’s amazing what a full dresser can do. I had my own off road ride experience on my 2016 Road Glide Ultra in West Virginia when I took a wrong turn ended up going down steep dirt/ gravel road. The best was yet to come when a 15 foot wide stream was at the bottom of the road. The stream was about a foot deep and my only option was to go across it. I crossed the stream only to hit a big rock that wrenched the handlebars out of my hands. So half of the bike was on the bank and half in the stream. Luckily a young man riding on a quad came by and helped me upright the bike. Then he said the only way out was to follow him on a dirt path to a hard top road. Well the bagger made it to hard top road and now I have the confidence that the Road Glide Ultra can go almost anywhere.

I went through training when I was a motor cop. We didn’t do anything this extreme but we went off-road, up and down stairs, etc. Harleys are very capable machines.
I knew y’all didn’t know what you were doin when you took those baggers in the woods but yall powered thru it and had a blast that what harley ridin is all about!
Try this pulling a 500# teardrop trailer lol. Props to you guys. I have been taking my baggers off road for 40 years. The rule. Around my bikes has always been never tell it, it is not a dirt bike.

This video reminds me of my childhood. We hill climbed out of a rock quarry pit on our dirt bikes, and thought we were the GOAT s. An older friend showed up on a Gold Wing and cleared the 90' climb no sweat. :(

I took my 17 glide down in August and only damaged my right lid and bag so replaced those already, but after it went down I was in grass and dirt off of an exit ramp, I had to utilize that lift from back by turning away from the bike and lifting by the seat and bag and tank. I almost thought I wouldn't get it but it actually worked.
Yeah, I used to do this on an old Beemer. Never rode a harley because I weigh 110 lbs. Now they have Adventure and GS scoots. Paint it orange and call it The General Lee on 2 wheels!

Check out salvage auctions. You can find decent harleys with minor or nonexistent defects for 2-4k usd.

I got to ride an 1986 Kawasaki KLR 650. The long travel suspension was a lark till I tried to cross too much soft sand. It spilled and then I had to lift it up and work it up a bit.
Not something I would want to do alone.

Shawn, in 1972-73 I was ridding a 125 thru the woods near a campground we were staying at and all the sudden I heard a heavy, smooth, bike behind me. It was a Honda 750/4 cylinder motorcycle… we trail bikes around for a couple hours in this sandy/loamy soil and he only had trouble with strong uphill grades due to the weight… I wasn’t surprised at your success… 😂

A grandson and myself did over 30 miles on a "road" in northern Nevada that was 6"-10" of mud in 2020. We past a car that was stuck buried to the frame about 1/4 of the way through. We were riding Honda VTX's Mine had Harley bags and a large sissybar touring bag of luggage and 2 gallons of spare gas. We were both on reserve at the start of the mud so we had to use those 2 gallons. Neither of us fell once, but I did go into the ditch beside the road once when caught by a rut that guided me off. I was surprised that it climbed out of the ditch under it's own power, I didn't think it would. It was quite an adventure and we were committed because we didn't have enough gas to go back. We arrived at the next gas station with about a quart each left. Oh it was raining and in the upper 30's. We had rain gear and warm clothing. I actually was hot from all the energy and effort it took. I have jumped my VTX 23' on dirt track too. I have jumped and wheelied every Bike I have owned at least once, LOL. I am just a kid in his mid 60's. :^)

Weld both bikes together side by side but have them running independently of each other, then take them off road. I don't think it's going to be as much fun as I am imagining but if you don't try you don't know.
Still radically laughing. Great job. At 62 years of age I’ve owned a lot of Harleys. None of them have ever failed me. Anyways great video. You guys keep it up, and keep doing the crazy stuff us older guys can’t do anymore.
Enjoyed your video. It built my confidece , as to how well a crusier performs off road on street tires with experienced riders. Now , I can put my Honda VTX 1300 to the test but have to be a wee bit careful at age 75. Once again great video.
It’s amazing what a full dresser can do. I had my own off road ride experience on my 2016 Road Glide Ultra in West Virginia when I took a wrong turn ended up going down steep dirt/ gravel road. The best was yet to come when a 15 foot wide stream was at the bottom of the road. The stream was about a foot deep and my only option was to go across it. I crossed the stream only to hit a big rock that wrenched the handlebars out of my hands. So half of the bike was on the bank and half in the stream. Luckily a young man riding on a quad came by and helped me upright the bike. Then he said the only way out was to follow him on a dirt path to a hard top road. Well the bagger made it to hard top road and now I have the confidence that the Road Glide Ultra can go almost anywhere.

From someone that can't afford a Harley to tear up in the woods your nuts but I love it. I ride Kawasaki or Honda usually building 80s models.
I live in Minnesota. When I was a lad I took my FLH ice fishing a couple times just for giggles.! And yes, they handle pretty well in the dirt too!
I went through training when I was a motor cop. We didn’t do anything this extreme but we went off-road, up and down stairs, etc. Harleys are very capable machines.

This video reminds me of my childhood. We hill climbed out of a rock quarry pit on our dirt bikes, and thought we were the GOAT s. An older friend showed up on a Gold Wing and cleared the 90' climb no sweat. :(

I took my 17 glide down in August and only damaged my right lid and bag so replaced those already, but after it went down I was in grass and dirt off of an exit ramp, I had to utilize that lift from back by turning away from the bike and lifting by the seat and bag and tank. I almost thought I wouldn't get it but it actually worked.
Yeah, I used to do this on an old Beemer. Never rode a harley because I weigh 110 lbs. Now they have Adventure and GS scoots. Paint it orange and call it The General Lee on 2 wheels!
