You have no proof. The guy was probably pissed that he had to wait for his food and or pull out of the drive-thru. Waiting at a reserve stall has a high rate of: not getting served in a timely manner - especially when cold outside. Not getting the right order. Watching the server show and handle your food to multiple other vehicles. Also you know 100% that your order is not a priority because you aren't in the queue.

I was working retail, when a guy came in and made a 95-cent purchase. He gave me a dollar bill, and I gave him back a nickel. He said, "I gave you a twenty. Where's the rest?" I went to the assistant manager and told him the guy was lying. The manager should have counted down the drawer, but instead tried to avoid a commotion by simply giving the guy the 19 dollars. Later when the register was counted down, it was 19 dollars short.
Never violate the process simply to avoid a scene or get rid of a troublesome customer. It's almost always a scam.

I had the opposite happen. I was a student at uni and living on students loans. So, every krona counted.
I went grocery shopping in thne store next to where I lived. When I came home I suddenly felt unsecure. I had I reallygotten the correct change? I had paid with a 1000 SEK bill and hsould have received over 500 SEK back. When I checked my wallet I was 500 SEK short.
I ran back to the store, found the cashier and explained to her that she had given me the wrong change. She did not believe me for one second, but told me to cpme back the next day and check.
Didn't sleep a wink that night because without that money I would have had great trouble make ends meet and most likely would have had to skip eating for a week or more. The next morning I rushed back down with my heart beating and ready to faint. What if the cashier told me the till had been correct and pocketed the money for herself? For all I knew she could regularly scam people. Well, she didn't. She smiled at me and handed me back my money because her till had been 500 SEK over. Thinking back the odd part was that I never had to fill out any papers, not when I reported the mistake nor when I received the money.
Anyway, she gave me quite the weird look when I broke down and began crying as she handed me the money. I just sobbed and stammered "Haven't slept...." as I slowly meandered home, this time without face planting into a tree (do not recommend; the broken green nose didn't improve my looks).

Moreover, if someone pays by any kind of card or device, the company managing the payment takes a cut, which would not be returned to the store if they paid out a refund in cash. What's more, is that even if the payment is legitimate, there's a risk that the people paying will just claim that the charge is fraudulent and initiate a chargeback, which is why you have to put the refund on the card that it came from, and the company can't really say, "Hey, we gave them a cash refund for that, you can't reverse the charges now."

@@elaexplorer So you get the credit and use it at a different McDonalds. Order a different food at the same place. Take the food that this guy didn't want to wait a few minutes for. Your scenario is sad, sure - but if you were THAT short of money and desperate to eat, you would WAIT the five minutes. You would ACCEPT the cold food and heat it up. The chances that you would have no other option is almost zero, and if it was, are you seriously telling me you have absolutely nothing else to eat, no friends to borrow a few bucks from, no homeless shelters, no food kitchens, no food banks, nothing? If so, it really freaking sucks, and nobody should be going hungry, ever, (though missing one meal isn't going to hurt long term in the vast majority of cases in the US, Canada, etc, regardless of how unpleasant it is to go hungry) and my heart would ache in sympathy for you - but your scenario is almost never going to happen, and it's WAY more likely to be a scam, as in this case. And even so, don't blame the companies that have these policies in place - blame people like the buttholes in this video who are clearly stealing money and being rude to minimum wage workers. If it wasn't for people like them, then perhaps you'd get your money back in the form of cash to take elsewhere, in the vanishingly tiny chance of this scenario playing out.

Back and forth this way for a bit, then he throws in, the other shops are selling to me. I suggested he go buy his beer from them. Finally he yells, "I'm going to get my mom and she'll tell you I'm 22." And I explained his mom was not a form of ID but I was happy to call security for him. Eventually he got frustrated and stormed off. He was incredibly obnoxious but simultaniously it was kind of hard not to laugh at how bad his arguments were. People who have a low sense or self-worth will search for people to look down on in order to make themselves feel better. If they think the person can't retaliate, so much the better.
It doesn't matter if it's job, race, religion, education, etc. and it doesn't matter if the work or whatever is actually bad or not, they just have to convince _themselves_ that it is. Though this was probably a scam, I'd bet that the passenger thinks that way all the time to convince herself that theft and running scams is better than working in fast food.
There was a semi-viral Tumblr or Reddit post a while back where a guy was repairing some kind of electrical equipment and a passing dad told his son "See, that's why you need to go to college, so you don't end up like him." Said repairman then informed the dad that his job paid six figures and required a degree.

Those at the bottom help society function on a base level for very little reward. They have to interact with and service bad customers who shit all over them, and do it with a smile. EDIT: Yeah, at the point the guy said he lost the card, the cashier should have told the guy to either park in the stall to wait for their food or go away. The manager can cancel the order and flag it in the system to reverse the transaction without the card. Since they haven't given the food, this isn't going to be an issue. This shouldn't have gone on as long as it did. It may look bad for the employee to have the Manager reverse the transaction, but it definitely saves the store that dreaded chargeback fee.

There is rarely anyone who will give money back a different way than it was paid. Usually, this is to protect an actual card holder and the business from scam artists who do just this exact thing with stolen cards. It's also so customers can't call their bank or CC company to have the transaction canceled, claiming it's fraud. The cashier is doing a great job.

I agree. We’ve had people come in and place orders same day that should have been placed earlier in the week under catering. They want it NOW! Oh you can’t give me enough food for 30 people in 5 minutes? Then give me my money back but not on my card, in cash. I hated dealing with them. They think if they yell and bully you that you’ll comply.
