    ‘This stuff is so cool’ very reassuring for people suffering with cancer to hear

      I might have skin cancer and I do geek out on this shit lol. It’s knowledge. It is cool because the more we learn, the better our chances of survival.

    • @skroochi1901

      @@arizonahd cool is far from how I would describe this. Knowledge is power but cool is a very immature and insensitive way to put it. You “might” have skin cancer, very different from those suffering undergoing treatment.

    • @arizonahd
      @arizonahd 11 місяців тому

      @@skroochi1901 it doesn’t bother me. I laugh at death lol. Not really, I am very scared. But I actually find comfort in talking about these issues with a bit of geek appreciation to how it works and potential ideas to thwart it. I won’t deny those feelings tho, it may hurt if you’re undergoing this. But I think it was most definitely not meant to be offensive.

    This was a super comprehensive overview of both types of cancer. Well done and so informative.

    I tend to grow many squamous cell carcinomas. I’ve long ago lost track.. I was a pasty white pale kid in the years before sunscreens. I became a sun worshipper as an adult until my skin was ruined. I very suddenly developed a swollen lymph node in my axilla in 206. It was diagnosed as a metastatic squamous cell carcinoma that had come from a lesion that was treated in 2009. I ended up having extensive lymph nodes removed from that axilla and May from above my clavicle. Most were no longer encapsulated. I had extensive surgery by two different surgeons at a university hospital and subsequent chemo and radiation. It was brutal but I am still here at 73 years old. I can’t change the deep burns of my childhood or those as an adult but I absolutely avoid the sun and use good sunscreen daily.

    I had this squamous cell skin cancer on my left temple area that would crust. The crust would fall off and then grow back. I finally told my primary doctor about it and he cut it out right in his office. He got all of it out in one attempt and told me he figured it was cancer when I mentioned that the crust would fall off and then grow back. This was way back in 2002-I was fifty years old then. I have been going to a demotologist for years to have routine check ups. Thank you for this informative video .

      I visited NSW in 1979. With that intense southern hemi sun I observed so much skin cancer with the largely Caucasian population. Pretty country indeed and I trust more sunscreen and umbrellas are being used now.

    I wish I'd stayed out of the sun when I was younger. I live in Australia & we waterskied all summer. In the past 15 years I've had 8 squamous cell, one needing a skin graft on my nose & 15 basal cell carcinomas. Plus l have Bowens disease. Four basal cell in just this year! The scar behind my ear runs from the top of my ear right down to my neck. Stay out of the sun. Thank you.

    Grechen, can you talk about the chances of each type to become malignant, the consequences of waiting vs early care, and about when the Mohs procedure is necessary?
    Thank you.

    I had intensive surgery on my nose 4 years ago which left me with a scar and as you were speaking it started throbbing! That hasn't happened in a while. I have to go back for surgery and I'm not looking forward to it.

    I have a small area of basal cell on the back of my head, about the size of a fingernail. It’s to be surgically removed but, due to the location, the wound can’t be closed. So he has to take a piece of skin from the other side and stitch it in. He then has to make a cut between both areas and pull the skin up. It’s going to leave a scar. I thought it was just a tiny pimple and left it too long. Please see a doctor immediately if you suspect something.

    I am having a Mohs procedure done on my right thumb - biopsy revealed that it is squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer. There's not alot of tissue there. If you look at the top of my thumb, there are two separate spots to be excised. I am scared to death mostly because thee are ligaments and muscle involved very close to the surface of the skin. Do you have any suggestions or advice?

    • @user-vg5gh7cu6k
      @user-vg5gh7cu6k Рік тому

      5873 I am NOT a Doctor! Beware. However, I've an incurable cancer and since I had it I've had 5 skin cancers cut out. Three cSCC and 2 BCC. One of my forehead ,a cSCC, went through all the skin the subcutaneous fat and into the skeletal muscle. Ick. But they got it! I'm OK.
      You are going to have Mohs procedure - it is one of the best tools in a dermatologist's bag of tricks and sharp knives! The actual procedure can take a while because they shave off very thin layers look at them through a microscope and keep going until until the get to no cancer. It has an excellent reputation and a very high success rate. You are in good hands. As to the ligaments and muscle being involved - don't be too concerned. Even mine into the skeletal muscle was all removed 100%. Don't worry. However, REMAIN DILIGENT, going forward it you see any thing on your skin that's a new - see your dermatologist. BETTER still try and get a schedule of regular 6 months or so visits to him/her. Good luck!

    I had this wart looking pimple on my elbow joint. The first one, I ripped off. The second showed up in the same spot about 8 months later. My primary care Dr. scraped the outer skin (looked like dried skin) and let me go. It was difficult to determine if the pain I was suffering came from that wart or a genetic disorder in my elbows; I had to wait for my Derm. appointment due to the holidays and so I went to the ER to get it checked out. Well in a month that wart grew into a large blister like growth.
    When I finally saw the Derm she measured it and it was 6 'mm??' on each side of the center. She cauterized the growth. Three days later we got the diagnosis of BCC and now I'm waiting for the specialists to do some kind of surgery due to the size and location.
    1. The growth had similarities in appearance between BCC and Squamous. Is that normal or could it be a sign of both forms being present?
    2. The doctor described the surgery as the specialist digging into my elbow. Can you explain more about the procedure and what kind of recovery to expect?

    I couldnt believe the comment "this stuff is so cool" regarding the carcinomas as it is incredibly inappropriate. Many people will be looking this stuff up because they or their loved ones have these conditions. In which case this stuff is certainly not "so cool". Please consider your audience more carefully! I just cannot continue watching after that!

    Squamous cell cancer around the opening of my penis. Almost 1 1/2 years to diagnose. 3 urologists, gmhc, infectious disease dr., finally dermatologist did a biopsy on the second visit. Everyone said this is not the usual presentation. Going to cancer hospital for moh’s. Terrified. Dr. Said surgery would be best, not topicals. Any opinions?

    I just got diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma in My Cervix with some iliac Lymphnode involvement on my left side a few weeks ago. I am going to be starting Radiation/Chemo in a month for 6 weeks 5 days Radiation 1 day a week fir Chemo. Because of the Lymphnode involvement I was not able to get a Radical Hysterectomy so I am kind of bummed out about that. Ladies don't skip out on getting your yearly pap smear's especially if you have HPV! I stupidly didn't go to my Gynecologist for 7yrs so I am very greatful it is only at a stage 2! I had a Paraguard IUD in that I thought was causing all of my symptoms but nope it is Stage 2 Squamous cell carcinoma! 🥺🩵
