@@harleybenton6805 tit
He'd write it.
Really?
Harley you make the best guitars....
4:15 "Another pentatonic wank fest" 😂 I haven't heard anyone articulate my feelings about Kirks solos so accurately
I mean, this song and its solo are garbage, but Hammett's work up to the Black Album was very different. His solo's seemed composed and used different scales and modes... Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, Phrygian, Dorian, etc.
wahnk fest*
It’s seriously like Kirk showed up and did some sloppy improv and said here’s the solo and then bailed. Like no thought was put into it at all. More of the same boring shit he’s been doing the last 20 years. Kirk is not a great guitar player but at least his earlier work you could tell he thought the solos out and put effort into them. This new stuff is just shit.
It feels like they don't have a producer with the balls to tell Metallica to cut it down
This dong has all the right ingredients but the wrong arrangements. It's like a pizza but thr toppings are pineapples. Probably a bad example but I still
Fidelman is too good friend for them. And also Fidelman's mixing and production sucks ass!!
Yeah, same with Maiden... 😂😂😂😂
I kinda think they don’t have a producer (other than Lars). They have a yes-man engineer.
They haven't had anyone around them with the balls to tell them to stop sucking since the 80s
This is Metallica though, they’ve become this kind of ambient groove metal you listen to while lifting weights, or barbecuing, or something
Stepdad metal

I wouldn't ruin my BBQ by playing this shite
The fact no one said “hey do you think this riff is a bit repetitive” is beyond me
imagine if someone said that in Master of Puppets or Disposable Heroes lmao
@@ThiClashClashOfClans I don’t recall either of those songs playing the same exact riff that has no tail variation or anything for nearly a minute and a half. I love Metallica but this is just laziness. I do like the chorus but the rest is just meh🤷♂️ Just my opinion
@@dennisrazzmatazz1352 lol disposable have the same exact riff repeating over and over
but i completely agree that 2 or 3 parts should have been cut
@@ThiClashClashOfClans ok yes the chugging part keeps going but Kirk actually layers and adds to the riff and adds a sense of dynamic and I think that’s what keeps it interesting. It builds to something, this song just builds to no man’s land. Hopefully the album is good 🤘Rock on 🤘✌️
I said exactly the same things when I first listened to this song and Im not even a great songwriter. I cant believe they put out a song that have such blatant songwriting flaws.
In regards of introducing riffs - on of my favourite ones is the verse riff in Holy Wars - not only it’s not introduced AT ALL, but it is actually only heard with the vocals on top 😂
One of the greatest riffs ever, but Mustaine doesn’t even think it’s good enough on its own
Fucking legend
Hmm you are saying something interesting there
The intro riffs are like simplified versions of the verse riff. It definitely gets introduced.
Would you say that you liked the singles off of the previous album more?
I certainly did.
hardwired is a great album
I relistened to Hardwired the other day for the first time in a couple years. It's pretty bad as well. But at least it was somewhat fresh at the time. If Hardwired was Load, this is shaping up to be Reload. Greg Fidelman's production doesn't help matters.
@@shaunrevell5594 hard wired is a great album
@@dvvaughn564 You’re entitled to your opinion. 😂 The songs (for the most part) don’t hold a candle to the pre-2000s material. Their discography is too strong. Hardwired has it’s moments for sure, but I really wouldn’t call it a great album overall, especially by Metallica’s high standards.
@@shaunrevell5594 oh well its not puppets or ride thats for sure. i was holding it against most new "metal music".

"I think it's fucking stock. Which part of that is unclear to you? I think it sounds stock to my ears. I mean, do you want me to write it down? I think-It feels stock, okay?"
This video was like added validation for me. I felt the same way while listening to it. The song just feels like it exists. If you looked thru the comments on their video you'd think this song was as great as Master of Puppets.
The more you listen to it the better it gets though. Exact opposite of Lux Aeterna which sounds great the first time but then that's it.
It drives me nuts that the comments on every video is "amazing, fantastic, best song in years etc.......". I don't know if they're just kidding themselves, really dumb or what but this is awful.
I made a remix of this I think is better
@@Innovate-pq9ci I’m sorry but it gets worse. I can’t believe this made it beyond the cutting room floor, let alone be a single

I've been thinking who Trey sounds like, and then I realised it's Rayn Reynolds
Deadpool or Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds? Or nerdy Mint Mobile Ryan Reynolds
Yeah, could have been a solid 3.5 minute song...smh
I think they should have tried a new producer. This song has a strong "We are surrounded by yes men" vibe.
I'm with ya Trey.
Most bad songs have issues with repetition. play it twice, but on the third do something else:
- change tempo
- harmonize, go up or down an octave
- add / remove parts
- Full stop, then play again
- throw in some acoustic, strings,
- intro into a toy microphone, change the whole eq
- stereo pan
- quick embellishments on transitions (see Van Halen 1 with pick scrapes, screams, and drum fills)
- add / remove an effect
- Key change
- legato, staccato
- prelude, interlude
- fade in
- consonance / dissonance
I wish they had more to say, I want to hear what makes them mad now. Perhaps having to walk really far in their mansions, How hard it is to find a radiator for a maserati, Gold toilet seats are too cold to sit on, etc
Lol. Yep man.
Crying on stage, explaining how hard life is, still pissing and moaning about childhood trauma. Fucking Pathetic! smh!
Excuse me master of puppets
😂👍
I think this was one of the best things they've done in ages. The hypnotic nature of it seemed part of the overall song concept. It was serving the song, not lack of inspiration.
I'm already marking my calendar for the full album reaction video(s)
Comparing the song structure to ones found in pop songs? 🤔...switching up and reacting to Kpop might hold a bright future for you 👌
Too repetitive riff? I wonder how would you react to "Seek & Destroy" 😬😂🤫
I think most of Kill Em All suffers from these same problems but worse, and like, it’s 40 years old. Have they not learned since then?
Oddly enough, when you spoke about "procedurally generated" the same thing crossed my mind about all the singles released. If they're going to say at release date that "hey, this thing is completely written by an AI" I'll just lose it.
This song reminds me of the Cantina from Star Wars. Especially @2:25 and the fact that it just keeps going and going. And the lyrics are are totally an afterthought. I just listened to it twice and the only lyrics I know are "temptation" and "holy-water" which I think he tried to rhyme with "father" but in a strange german accent.
MISBEHAVING!!!!! So metal. Uh, what?
Won’t take long to learn this one
Don't you think I'm a savior?
Don't you think I could save you?
Don't you think I could save your life?
nooo 😭
..And Justice For All is over 9 minutes long and feels much more interesting and shorter than this one does. That just goes to show that they could create long songs that work great in the past. This just feels like a demo version of a song with great production.
It feels like there are so many people out there want to speak Critical stuff about tallica.
The new 3 songs are so Great Man.
"Pentatonic wankfest" is my new favorite term.
would love to see a gong react to the new Extreme! That song hits harder than i remember them lol, arent they the more than words guys?
Tempo changes and multiple riffs are awesome. Just look at Black Sabbath.
I laughed so hard at every gonging. I’m with Kenneth.
The thumbnail to this video absolutely nails how I felt about this song. Every listen since hasn't got past the 1:50 mark. Getting past the generic solo felt like an achievement I never want to repeat
This song is like a slow moving movie.
As a Metallica fan I will say this, it's a song I would listen to in a coffee bar and not pay any attention to.
as a Metallica fan I whole heartedly disagree.
@@dylanallen7720 To each their own but the song is boring, 2nd tier band level.

Also Exodus.
It was almost like one of your friend's was extremely drunk, & started to tell you this really cool story & as soon as you started to get interested in the story, they pass out on you. 😕
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If Kirk's solo was trimmed a bit and the "temptation!" part was cut entirely, this would be even better. I've never shared my stuff here as I don't want to get the gong, but if anyone is interested in the two Metallica influenced tracks Ive done on recent albums, you can search for "The Last Vanguard" and "In the Dread of Night" here on youtube.
Apart from the chorus this song feels like a fun jam. There is a radio edit floating about that is more streamlined.
It will work well live.
This song is the reason i liked Lux Aeterna the most out of the new ones
Lux is the thrashiest song of them all
This legit sounds like a song contest submission. Poor Kenneth back there hangin' hungry.
dude! ITS METALLICA at their 60's! what are you expecting from them?
So glad, you took us by the hand and got us safe through this tragedy! Thx, man, I mean it!
Can you do me a favor and do the same with the new Depeche Mode song, which is (in my opinion) also disappointing in the same way? Love your content and value!
I love this song :)
Me too
It feels... STOCK TO MY EARS!
Do they have to start every single with the same snare intro?
Well it's Metallica past prime for a long time now. Obviously a very important band for me but i cannot listen to anymore cause metal has moved on and beyond, thanks to them to. We owe them a lot but as an old fan the standards changed, the aggression is not there anymore and how could there be? at their age you might no longer boil of riffs in your head and have no longer drive to go balls to the wall cause you've been doin exactly that for decades. "Just keep doing what you only know what to do" is basically where they are now. But you know what? there's a 15 yo out there who thinks this is sick & heavy and that will pick the copy of this album and roll back to the entire discography, discover the true power of this band. That's what happened to me with Reload, got me to Master of Puppets, Ride, And Justice....To this day, they still sound heavy af. No wonder why Metallica always had an ever lasting impact and influence on the career of so many great modern musicians....
I got to st. Anger first when it came out 20 years ago and the rest is history. That was the first metal song/album i listened to

Sounds like it'd be great as part of a movie. It doesn't try to grab your attention at all. It's happily there in the background.
That intro had like 5 intros
Lux Aeterna will suffice as the banger from this album. I'm hoping for a thoughtful ballad and a timeless instrumental to include with the select few others.
The best singles so far sound like deep cuts from load or reload, not excited for the release of this album
I liked Lux but the guitar solo was poorly written
@@jarrettchristensen_music What?

Easy tiger. Wait for the rest of the album..
Kirk finally has a writing credit since death Magnetic..Guess he found his phone..
And yet his solos continue to be dog shit lazy uninspired repetitive, recycled bullshit..
You get bonus points for the Mallrats reference!
First time watcher... and I could not agree more.
Absolutely agreed. It sounds as if they wrote it for something to do. Something to pass the time. Not to make something awesome. They need to buy "Prisoner of Apathy" from you and go to town.
This song has to be a practical joke on us all! That is the only thing that would totally redeem them from putting this out.
im listening to it like after 2 weeks and holy shit this solo is sooo long
The chorus Riff sounds like Mastodon The Wolf Is Loose.
Problem is, these are riffs you can play after a month of starting learning guitar and drums!
I plan to. 😂
im sure you can do that double bass after a month 😂
so does every riff Metallica plays have to be difficult?
This sounds like me on guitar and I suk
No, just not generic.
Trey did ya check out Extremes new single? Really good & nuno solo is class as you'd expect.
His solo rips!
I don't know how Kirk dares to phone it in like this when guys like Nuno are out there ripping like that. Like... make an effort dude.
his solo was great. but no taste for me. more to tech
Straight up people hate on this because they have expectations because it's metallica. I f this was someone else they'd eat it up
Dude THIS is EXACTLY my reaction when listening to this yesterday!! 😂😂😂
Master of puppets is a riff salad too but the perfect amount of repetition in each riff. Don’t know how else to explain it.
You see this is why I like your videos. You actually give proper criticism instead of saying this sucks and I’m no longer listening to Metallica. I still say out of three this is the best one and it’s not saying much. I also agree with your criticisms that they should have added some harmonies either vocally or guitar wise during the verses and choruses to give them flavor. Also the main riff as catchy as it is still feels incomplete and needs a proper tail to cap it off. Honestly one of the biggest mistakes Metallica did was part ways with Bob Rock because he helped give Metallica the sound the needed to be great songwriters besides St. Anger. I would still listen to this album but I’m not going to be overly excited about it either, but rather show gratitude they are still here.
If they released For Whome the Bell Tolls today..
'Did they really just ring out an open e like that??'
Oh the outrage.
I can absolutely agree that if songs like Damage Inc., Leper Messiah, Eye Of The Beholder, The Shortest Straw, or Sad But True (especially), fans would still take a crap on it for being “too repetitive” or “lacking cool parts”. Not to mention how ungrateful fans are now. Metallica came back after quite a long time and nobody's satisfied after begging for new music.
Much respect for the Mallrats joke
Right.. you're a better song writer than James. Let's hear one of your platinum albums!
Remember, this is a song Metallica chose as ➡️A SINGLE!⬅️
My hopes for the new album have dwindled if these 3 last songs are the ones used to get us stoked.
Trey didn't gong the fire desire?
Let the build to nothing side without a gong?
Take notes for songwriting contest...
As much as I enjoy this song it definitely could have been trimmed a bit. I'm hoping we get another Spit Out The Bone type song on this album.
I dont fully agree. Thought it was a bit hard of you to both gong for too much repetition and the introduction of a new riff. I would have also liked to see more variations on the main riff instead of hearing so many times, but i like the introduction of a new riff half way, although it should have been worked out more
Been waiting all day for this. Now do Tekkno Train!
CHOO CHOO CHOO!
It seems like James made a banger chorus then the producer took over and he didn't know what to put around it. So we got the same riffs over and over again. Then that awesome chorus.
we're in load era 2.0
I had the same reaction you did when I heard this. I've never been critical of Metallica. I admired what they did with Load and Re-load, and even understood where they were coming from on St. Anger. But this just feels like their phoning it in. One track, ok. But more than that and it's just not doing it for me. Especially when there are bands out there freally pushing things.
The more new Metallica I listen to the sadder I get. I’ll stop my misery and go hug the first 6 albums
I'll go hug the first 4
The first 5 ..and hold thight them like an ex holds a gruge
MY THOUGHTS EXACCCCCCTTLY
Great analysis.
If any other band wrote "Temptation let me be!" we would snore or laugh.
After 40 years, Metallica has no right to be so lame. Damn, why can't Hetfield get a cowriter!?
MIS - BE - HAVING! lol
@@boardskins We fans don't ask for sonnets or academic essays... But it would be nice if Hetfield read a book and picked up a thesaurus.
Most of us are grown ups. We want to see some effort, some intelligence.
Look at Halford and Dickinson.
Those old farts can still write lyrics that are clever and cool.
I consider myself a Metallica fanboy, but I agree with you in all the arguments you just said. It seems to me that Greg Fidelman, the producer, is subtracting from the band more than contributing so that ideas that may be good at first become incredible. To me Metalllica should have called Rick Rubin or Bob Rock for this album
100% agree. Fidelman is just an engineer, a yes man in the studio. Technically speaking, after reading several interviews with Fleming Rassmusen, Fidelman is Rasmussen 2.0, with the big difference of the band they were working with at the time.
Hell no not Rick Rubin!
Fucking awesome
Damn bruh, I think it’s sounds great!
...low bar
you should listen to any other above average band then, you'd cry tears of joy
I'm not a massive fan of Metallica, but I do think they influenced other bands I love really well. My favourite Metallica song from the past decade is probably Fall Into The Light by Dream Theater lol.
Dream theater is clear of metallica.
That song is a blast, what Metallica should strive to do.
@@enman009 The whole album's awesome IMO but Fall Into The Light really makes my inner thrash metal fan happy. My favourite band's Megadeth (I don't really care about the drama between them and Metallica but I do prefer Megadeth by a long way) so whenever Dream Theater get a bit thrash-influenced it's always a treat for me.
@@faroffgrace5490 Glad to see more DT fans. I'm indifferent towards both Megadeth and Metallica, but I still like most of their music (Metallica just a tiny bit more).
If you want more trashy Dream Theater, for the love of God, listen to Endless Sacrifice. The last 4 minutes of that song are face melting marvels, some of their best riffs and brilliantly performed. Seriously, it truly feels powerful.
@@enman009 Oh trust me, I've listened to all of DT's albums. Endless Sacrifice is an absolute banger! Melancholy verses, hooky chorus, crazy instrumental section and, as you said, a great ending. Love the live version from their 2012 tour too.
You know the thing is metallica has many songs that repeat again and again with little variation and they're bangers
Yep but people are just super critical of them now cause they’re Metallica
Damn that was a bullseye on that last gong
You should text to the Hardwired Album. That album imo was a straight banger all the way through.
Hardwired and Lux are arguably the best songs they've done over the last two album cycles (that we've heard so far). The main thing they have going for them is that they don't fuck around. Long songs should have an excuse to be long. They shouldn't just be the same riff over and over with zero dynamic or melodic payoff.
Death Magnetic best both hardwired and new album.
Death Magnetic crushes HTSD and 72S’s singles so far.
@_NoDrinkTheBleach
That is DEFINITELY agruable since the whole hardwired album sucks from beginning to end, dumbass!

So riff repetition gets a gong, and a different riff then gets a gong?
It's not a problem to repeat the chorus without any changes or additions, if it's catchy. Just a hand full of Metal songs have these changes in their chorus.
The problem is that Metallica currently repeats parts like a hundred times. Additionally, the lyrics in the chorus itself repeats a lot, so you get the feeling of too much repetition. And we don't have to talk about the interludes...
Nevertheless, I like the song...
You people are crazy. This song is written like standard songs with the chorus repeating. You people are trying so hard to bash this band. It’s really sad.
@@RavensFlock9592 No, he's just telling some true points. Metallica do repeat parts of their songs unnecessarily often and stretch them unbelievably long. They could do better. If Someone wants to defend Metallica, it's me.

Yo Trey. Man I wondered after hearing Screaming Suicide if something might be happening weird on this album. This song has cool parts, but is way unorganized or even lazy. Huge fan of METALLICA so I’m down either way
Only :43 in but "I hope they're building to something awesome" made me cackle. Little does he know.....
I like this song more compared to the other two singles but this is how I think it would’ve been a great song. Shorten the intro or change it up before the verse. Do the temptation bit for the first time or get rid of it all together. And on the final chorus, like you said they should’ve added some variation to it. Other than those things I really liked this song. That’s my own personal opinion on the song.
Not really a fan of it. The first 2 songs were decent but this one is kind of boring.
