Hi guys, it's definitely time for some Nightwish! Anything LIVE with the current singer Floor Jansen who opened (solo) for Metallica some weeks/monts ago in Amsterdam. A lot of reactors here on UA-cam start with Ghost Love Score but Nightwish repertoire is really something, you cannot go wrong. I would recommend The poet and the Pendulum. In any case you will need the lyrics, I would say they are mandatory for Judson to fully embrace the poetry of that band.
I have to say I am really digging the intros. The old timey feel is a perfect start then you add in the nice Piano from Judson (?) and it's golden! "... Hey Richard!"
I think Master will grow on you :) The "Master!" part is repeated that many times partially because the audience can shout it together with the band and get included, which is great. Time for some Opeth again, I think :)
One thing I have always said.. if we all liked/disliked the same music.. then all music would sound the same. That would get very boring very fast. Celebrate your music the way you want and never let anyone tell you that you are wrong. Enjoy the ride. Personally, this is the song.. back in '86, that got me into Metallica and speed/thrash metal in general. It actually surpassed my enjoyment of Iron Maiden, Dio, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest for many years. One of my true joys is that because of Metallica’s longevity I can listen to James’s voice in its prime singing songs like Master from a time when his voice was far from his prime. Very similarly Death Magnetic and 72 Seasons (particularly 72 seasons) feel like hearing a lot of early tallica with prime quality instruments and recording and a mature capability to achieve the sound they are looking for.
Not only are the lyrics of the song all about drug addiction, the music reflects the exact same thing. Eventually the high wears off and we hit the comedown HARD, before returning to the relentless inevitable craving for the next hit. I think Judson should now revisit the track understanding more of this explanation. The manic repetition of the word "Master" is another device that reinforces the point of the total and utter control an addiction has over you, trust me, as a recovering alcoholic I know what I'm talking about on that one lol.
