The Mini interiors are on another level!
Could be that the power drop you mention is related to the engine being turbo charged and as such it has a lag, so when you go down in rev range it will have a lag till you get back on throttle and up to the twin spool power zone. Not sure if the audi you drove had turbo or was naturally aspirated. I had a 330ci and the E46 M3 both of which are straight 6 cylinder natrually aspirated engines and as such have no lag associated with turbo power 🙂 Have a manual Cooper S 2018 LCI version nowadays and love it too. Test drove a couple of JCW as well and the Coop S is not that dissimilar in terms of performance, particularly in Sport mode (relative to JCW in standard mode) so went for the Cooper S as i love the Electric Blue colour which is exceptionally rare in the JCW. Minis are fun cars to drive for definite. The gearbox you have there is 8 speed as it is the BMW style double clutch one, the other on eaerlier Minis was a 6 speed mini system with different stick to that one. BMW autos boxes are fantastic, not as much control as the manual stick, but they are extremely reliable. Only thing i noticed was the more recent reg plate mini cars have this really crap, cheap looking electronic display speedo which i think ruins the interior look of the car and is completely out of context in a car that should nod towards the heritage of the Brand, which is one reason why people buy these cars for sure. Another thing to mention is that Mini's manula shift is possibly the best box of all manual boxes, it is so defined and tight. No idea why BMW don't put it on their cars as well, as it is far superior to the feel of the 330ci and M3 boxes i had 🙂

My cooper s in eco gets 46 mpg which is amazing
Never tried eco mode, but in normal i'm about 40mpg if i'm on longer motorway runs 🙂

The pops and bangs are from a spark plug on the turbo exhaust manifold if I remember rightly. So you don't have to put up with a crap tune for fun noises.

The gearbox cutting power between shifts really threw me off initially. I originally had a 17 MCS with the older 6 speed auto and it didn't do that. A few cars later I picked up this 21 with the DCT and I thought something was wrong with it at first. But eventually I realized it was a normal character of the dct. Generally it shifts much faster then the old 6 speed but I'm still not a fan of how it cuts power on full throttle changes.
Yeah it’s weird as opposed to other dual clutches that just retard the timing and minimize the power loss between shifts.

That’s great to hear dude. I’d say they they’re up there with one of the best hot hatches not in terms of power but rather built in tech. The gearbox is honestly great and something you don’t tend to find on small hot hatches so always great to see and it’s packed to the brim with all the technology you can think of. I’m sure you’ll love it. The only things I’d change is suspension, exhaust and remap as you’d get the opportunity to really push this car and have even more fun. 😁
@@xiolage Yes I totally agree , the cooper s is equipped as a premium luxury car whereas gtis , fiesta or focus st and other hot hatches really lack this fancy premium vibe.I hear the suspension is quite rough but apparently the main issue are the tires.Pzeros are apparently not that great, looking forward to driving it and perhaps keep it stock for the first 2-3 k miles and then getting a remap and a catback or remove the resonator
I honestly agree with that. As soon as you step into the Cooper S you do feel luxury straight away. Sounds good to me dude, hope you enjoy your new motor! 😁

@@Diego-fn9sf it has a great transmission i upgraded the suspension and it instantly kicks now and pushes me back it def doesn’t feel 191 or wtv it is
Only thing I didn’t like with the mini was not swapping the rev counter and Speedo around, the big full sweep gauge should be the rev counter & the side gauge the speedo… it already has a digit speed read out and if you’ve the heads up display you get a third speed readout all within the same eye view
Buy an aftermarket with boost and temp gauages
Better with a manual box
I really like the auto box in these, would definitely recommend anyone try one before defaulting on the manual.
@@xiolage you get more out of a manual for spirited drives auto boxes are better for everyday driving IMO.
Yep all down to personal preference I guess!
