I have a '16 F55s and I absolutely LOVE my mini. It was such a spur of the moment decision that I just couldn't pass it up. In the video, when you would kind of punch it a little and then giggle, that is SO me. Glad I'm not the only one that does that lol
Great review boss, in 2 weeks im picking up a 2014 cooper s manual, i really wanted a jcw but just couldn't find any good ones for sale, i cant wait to pick it up🙂
I ordered a countryman S in Feb but had doubts then yesterday I tried the JCW and it just felt like perfect fit (old car was Honda Type R) it's coming in June. Nanuq white, black accents and roof and tan seats
When I first took delivery of my 5 doors CooperS, I found the suspension was a bit stiff changing from a regular Honda although it was great at taking hard corners. In some countries, Mini put Pirelli run flats and the shocks are not dynamic. I hate it when local dealership cut cost putting non dynamic shocks and this is in Sports mode shocks all the time. It just mean it is always at +10% stiffer. After sometime, I changed them to a softer Michelin Pilot Sport tires, it felt a lot more comfortable for daily driving. I am just wondering whether anybody out there who enjoyed driving in sports shocks as a permanent feature?
What I miss in these comparisons are technical specifications, what are the differences in the engine, are there different pistons, are there different flywheels? As far as I know, you can buy a tuning package for Cooper S, full exhaust with software that turns it into JCW. So these cars are not that different since they can achieve the same power so easily. Of course, I'm leaving out the brakes, which in JCW are more adapted to sports.
The MINI JCW Team uses the B46 engine out of the Cooper S rather than the B48 since all of their JCW cars started life as Cooper S. As such, with very few differences, tuning is the primary difference.
What would be the "aftermarket tune" that you would do on this standard S version that would give you some extra horses....without spending thousands? Thank you, I've learned so much from your videos.
Thanks for the upload I believe UK market does offer the lovely track spokes for the non JCW. They come with a subtly different 'bend' in the spokes as they dont need to clear the JCW brakes. they are great. Here in North America i suppose the 17inch cosmos spoke in black would be the closest... Im not a huge fan of the full JCW/chilli appearance package on an S ( It starts to devalue the JCW as it includes EVERYTHING down to the jcw door sill labels). Just checked the current MINI canada inventory. There is a limited edition Cooper S JCW edition for 2020.....
Me and my wife last week looked at both these cars, the cooper s is the better car for families with more the 2 people, the JCW seats are not good for back sear passengers, power wise there is not much in it, we outed and bought a cooper clubman s sport, in the UK this comes with the JCW pack, we upgraded the wheels to 19in and upgraded the seats.
Just get the Cooper S, add Pro exhaust, Pro suspension and JCW appearance package and you have the better car because of the shift speeds of the dct. The problem is that the Pro exhaust isn't available for 2020 models...
The MINIac The MINIac Did you get that verified by your dealer? Mine says that MINI officially isn't supporting the Pro exhaust on the 2020s... And if MINI doesn't support it, dealers ought to not install them anymore.
The MINIac It does fit and of course it works indeed. But this is exactly what I meant. MINI doesn't support it, so it therefore voids the warranty... Things unfortunately are changing..!
Brian Leister Sport mode is the short answer. Engine and exhaust have to be warm. Just downshift to around 3500 rpm and it should do it. If you downshift to 5000 rpm it should fire away.
The real difference between an s and jcw is basically a tune Just stage 2'd my 2015 countryman s with a jcw appearance package and its already up to jcw spec with less than a thousand bucks in parts (bigger intercooler and a downpipe) Edit: it sounds cooler too❤
It's still not a JCW--If someone plans on modifying their S, he/she should just buy a real JCW from the outset. Mods will actually lower your trade in value when you go to trade, yet dealers will pay the premium for a real JCW........
@Ryan-cv8sn that's only a problem for resale, and since I'm running mine til it dies (so in my dreams I can gr swap it) trade and resale are not much of a factor
Around town is one more comfortable that the other? Meaning; suspension and interior as far as bumps, bad roads and the occasional longish trip? Or is the JCW really more of a race car in street clothing AKA...harsh? Thanks, love your videos.
@@TheMINIac I appreciate your comments! Well I already did the downpayment for the S that has been ordered to Oxford (no manuals around the country) the dealer called me this morning to tell me there is one JCW GP pack edition (not the +300hp one) and since I was planning to purchase the JWC exahust for the S, the JCW is even cheaper! Actually the manual will be more expensive! This is the link for the JCW GP edition: www.bmwblog.com/2020/06/10/mini-john-cooper-works-gp-pack/ Thanks for your time and patience! Saludos from Mexico!
@@TheMINIac , thanks. This sort of threw a wrench into my research. What i read is that the ones with “D” at the end are diesel models...or is that nomenclature only in Europe? So the b38 and b58 engines can have a jb4 installed as to not have the need to flash the ecu with custom map. What is out there for the b46? I am glad i read your response before tomorrow.

Clear downvote for 1. Calling the coopers S engine a b46 and 2. for calling fake vents nice. No they are not. And if they were open, they actually will have a purpose!!! Fake vents copy racecars and racecars have the vents for cooling and reducing the drag coeficcient.
@@TheMINIac give me the vin number and i will look it up. The b46 engine in the S is the very same engine as the B48, with the turbocharger of the JCW , done for better emissions and only in the US market. Now i feel stupid and ask for forgiveness. The vent thing is still valid though
I just traded my 2013 JCW for a 2020 Mini Cooper S with manual drive and I am loving it.....it's so awesome!
