could you do a hummingbird settings for summer? clayton did a good one for winter but i can't find a good one for summer.... i know their's a bunch on youtube but they're not so good
I have used one for 4 years now. In open water I will have it along in the boat. When I find a rock pile or transition in a spot that I know can be fished through the ice i will mark it. Come ice in I now have waypoints to walk or drive to. I dont even have the ice transdeucer. The suction cup can be removed and the angle of the deucer adjusted so it hangs parallel to bottom. Works far better than it should. The flasher function also works well but you need to have a jigging rap or heavy jig tied on, something like a slender spoon is too small of a profile to see. Have not been able to justify replacing this unit with a dedicated flasher. Just to versatile
You nailed it Jay, I love my livescope for finding fish and reacting to their behaviour with the presentation. But the biggest unintended result was learning so much about fish behaviour. Makes me a better fisherman even if I am using the Helix.
I try the same thing with a conventional flasher, but it's def much harder when you're not sure how they're fully reacting. I wish I had the money for something like this, or even rental for a day!
Jay posted a new video.....taking my coffee break be back in 15. I had no idea about those tiny sonar balls. Would be amazing for those back country spec lakes when your packing light. Thanks Jay!
Just used my livescope for the first time this past weekend. Seeing a lake trout come onto the screen and swim 40 ft in about 3 seconds then swirl around my bait before crushing it was incredible.
I bought a Garmin LiveScope All Season bundle using a 93 SVUHD for $2599 brand new delivered to my door. Everything I need to ice fish with LiveScope. 1 click and I am fishing in my boat using side imaging and down imaging in the spring. I L-O-V-E my LiveScope for both summer and winter fishing!
Jay either FaceTimes friends quite a bit on the ice, or ALL of his friends are just good luck. I love how every time he posts a video he's got a buddy on the phone. Thats awesome!
I have both. The deeper, marcum lx6 and also the garmin livescope. I use both of them also. I don’t fish as much as I used too but having the garmin is a game changer. You can finally see the fish and everything. Even if you’re just fishing for fun it’s nice to have if you can afford it. The best part about having the livescope is you can use it both in hard and open water which makes it worth it also.
Thanks for the video. I started on the Deeper and upgraded to the 63 echomap a couple years ago. Thanks for what you are doing, love your videos and tight lines :-)!!!
@@JaySiemens my girlfriend got into ice fishing with me this year after watching you and Sam! The only stipulation she requested for next ice season is we have to invest in a livescope. I can’t say I’m upset about that, so thank you guys!
12:12 what did you call that fish? Btw Love watching your vids man. I live in California so ice fishing here lasts for about 3 months if we’re lucky and have a good winter. I’ve owned 2 pro plus and currently own and use a deeper chirp and I love it! I’m currently on the hunt for lake trout this ice fishing season. Do you have any tips and tricks that you use to catch lake trout? Keep cranking out the vids! Always excited when I get a notification about a new vid from you! :)
I have had the deeper sonar ball for 4 years now I believe and I love it just for the convenience of how portable it really is. Though I have been looking at buying something new since I do alot of lake fishing now that I have a boat.
For $240 US you can buy the Garmin Striker 4 portable kit with their ice transducer. The regular portable kit with a tradition ducer for open water use (that works under the ice too in a pinch) is on sale right now for $180. And I'd say it's superior to anything else under $300. Be interested to see what you think.
Hey Jay hi all the way from Utah awesome video i started ice fishing about 10 years ago I started with a hammer 🔨 and a rod moved up to a used humminbird for 100 bucks moved up to a helix 7 si now im using a panoptix livescope and it is awesome and now i just need to stop buying gear 😁😁
I find it really cool the difference in walleye sizes like our walleye out at pigeon lake alberta are a minimum 40cm and like 3-5 pounds.. with very big shoulders
Good review! Just wondering if depth of the ice affects the sonar ball. I have one and never thought to use it as I thought the ice thickness would restrict it's ability to pick up anything that wasn't directly below the hole. Good for depth marking if anything.
Thanks for the vids man.. the first vid i watched where was when you went to Brochet, MB with Uncut... Which is pretty cool cause that's my mother's hometown.. i know how you felt from traveling from thompson all the way to brochet lol... from truck to boat.. definitely takes a toll on the body..but its worth it being out on reindeer lake
I use a Garmin Striker 4 for ice fishing. Picked up on sale for $95. Originally got it for my kayak but have since used it for ice fishing. Battery lasts all weekend on a 8ah, it's light weight, It has a 16 degree cone, traditional graph or flasher style. The only downside is it takes a little technique to get the transducer to aim correctly but still does the trick. For 80 bucks you can get the ice transducer and that issue would be solved. Would love to see your thoughts in another flasher breakdown/comparison.
Great channel! The problem I have with quite a bit of the content is locating fish! You all make it seem so easy because you have Pay-To-Play mapping, Panoptix, underwater cams, etc.. believe you me... If I could, I would have Panoptix! Just not at all feasible! You should go out on an expedition with bait, a rod, and a bucket and show us poor boys how to do it the hard way!!!
Thanks for putting out this video. I currently run the Deeper as well as an older lowrance ice unit.. with the Deeper I run it on my 8-in tablet. Or should I say both of my older kids run the electronics and I'm usually out just dead sticking.. if anything I probably will purchase a Helix next for myself and let let the kids just have the other two. Although it's like they own them already because I never get to use them when I take them with me..🤣
@@JaySiemens got to try it out casting open water for the first time couple weeks ago....works pretty good for getting readings of the bottom. Keep up the great vids!!
Pretty cool vid. I'd definitely purchase a livescope if I could afford it.....back to my single days I would've definitely purchased something like that! But 12 years later I'd have difficulty affording even 250 dollars for a new sonar. Luckily my Vexilar FL-18 is in it's 18th season and still works great.
