Castle and Beckett are at the precinct going over evidence gathered from the crime scene to work out the killer's motive and pinpoint a particular suspect. After Beckett asks Castle why he's still helping out on the case, he decides to find out why Beckett is a detective, when she could have had a more socially acceptable job.
Castle stars Nathan Fillion as Richard 'Rick' Castle and Stana Katic as Det. Katherine 'Kate' Beckett alongside Jon Huertas as Det. Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as Det. Kevin Ryan, Tamala Jones as Dr. Lanie Parish, Molly C. Quinn as Alexis Castle, Susan Sullivan as Martha Rogers and Penny Johnson Jerald as Captain Victoria "Iron" Gates. Castle also formerly starred Ruben Santiago-Hudson as Captain Roy Montgomery.

She went from smiles and jokes, to blank face and a quiver of the lip, he took her to the edge, without hurting her and let her know he knows human nature!
He knows her better than anyone. That's why she married him.
@gargouenzene Not at this point in their relationship, this is first season, first episode, right after they meet, but later on yes!👍
He "reads" people.
He was shaping his guesses on her reactions.
@varianschirmer9375 He wasn't "shaping his guesses", he was profiling her using professional methods, that law enforcement, counselors and therapists use everyday!

...starting with guesses on where she lived by how she talked.
Financial background, education...
He wasn't asking yes/no questions...
...and her only responses were going from being dismissive of his curiosity on the case to wondering if he'd researched her...
This is still one of, if not, my favorite episode of the whole series and I've seen it many times, but I noticed something watching this clip that I never noticed before. She calls him "Rick" in this scene. For the next few seasons she calls him "Castle," and doesn't start calling him "Rick" again until they become a couple.

I thought it was good till the end and even then it was better than 90% of what else was airing at the time.
It went on for too long. They gave us everything we wanted, but that also means they ran out of stories to tell. Simple as that.
