i love how when Castle says he loves her and Beckett says: "are you kidding me, you're actually bringing this up right now?" confirming that she has known all along how he feels about her, and that he knows that she knows!
It's more specific than that. After Beckett was shot, Castle told her he loved her as she lay on the ground bleeding. When he asks her later about her memory of the event, she says she remembered nothing about it. This is revealed to not be the truth during an interrogation of someone in a later episode. Castle is watching from behind the glass, unbeknownst to Beckett, as she talks about what it was like to be shot, stating something like "I remember every second of it" meaning she also remembered what Castle said to her that day. In this clip when he says she's known for about a year, he was referring to the time that had passed since that interrogation. I realize that your comment is 7 years old, but f it, I love this show.

Not there. Not yet. In this scene she’s trying to rationalize it, she’s in denial. She thinks castle will come back because he always does. It isn’t until the scene on the rooftop when she mistakes Esposito for castle that it sinks in. She realized in that moment when she says “castle?” And espo shakes his head that she had driven him away with this, and that he was serious this time. That’s when she stopped. She quit the case, quit the job. Left behind everything that had driven and consumed her FOR HIM.

Mistah Jay, it's also how I felt when I watched an acapella version of Britney Spears's song "Toxic" from Pitch Perfect 3 on the recommended section on UA-cam...except for buying and binge watching the DVDs, of course.

She says the most important thing in her life is her mother's murder case....it's not him...and then he leaves and she realizes what the most important thing really is. The dialog is great and well delivered, but the facial expressions say almost more than the words.
It's that way throughout the series, even in the funny scenes. The episode where Castle thinks aliens are the killers (Lyle Lovett is in the episode) when they get ready to watch the DVD & Beckett says "lets just stick it in & get it over with", Castle's expressions are hilarious.
A popular phrase goes that "acting is reacting", and I think the best actors can usually elevate material that would otherwise be horrible. Of course, there's some things even the most skilled actors can't pull off, because the writing has gone completely down the drain...and sadly, that's most sitcoms nowadays. But dramas like "Castle" have a lot more room to breathe and grow with the one-hour format. Not all of them succeed, but this one did, and I enjoyed most of it.
Only the time when Kate was pushed off the roof did she realize that Castle wasn't holding her back, but trying to protect her. Knowing that much, Kate also realized that Castle means more to her than an unsolved case.
Nathan Fillion always plays the smart-ass, funny, I-don't-care-about-the world-kinda guy. At least, that's how I knew him. But here he showed that he actually can act. Loved it!
@Logar3 I think he may be referring to the episode(s) about Alexis being kidnapped. The scene where Kate left him in the room with one of the kidnappers...you see Castle’s face then the shot cuts to Beckett and you hear the man screaming
In this scene you can clearly see that Castle character has improved. You know, at the beginning he brought up Johanna's case just for him because he was selfish, as Beckett told him in 2x01. But now it's different. He wants to keep her away from the case because he loves her and he doesn't want her to get hurt or worse. Love changes everything.

i cried when he started his big speech. he had tears in his eyes, and seeing that made me hat beckett for a bit. this is one of the most amazing scenes i have ever seen on the show. well done to the actors
The most remarkable thing is that these two actually didn’t get along at all in real life (at least not during this point of the show). Yet, they deliver simply everything. You can actually see the love, the hurt, the turmoil. You can see the depth of the character’s feelings for each other. It’s all there in their body languages, expressions, how they deliver the lines. It just shows how amazing they are at what they do. Anyone can memorize a script and parrot the lines, but set your self completely aside in order to fully embody the characters and their feelings? That’s something only great actors can do
Yea, they deserve a lot of credit for not letting the personal drama creep into the characters. When I found that out I was surprised. Their on screen chemistry was pretty good.
@Donovan Green I watched the last episode, unfortunately a bit disappointing. Castle ended on a low not a high. I watched the series religiously up to season 6, then I gradually lost interest ☹

+Malavika Srinivasan Nope. Cant. Hate what they've done to Caskett and both characters. Castle is a doofus and Hayley is his new bff and Beckett is a shadow of who she once was
+PMVfanAH Yeah I really wish it wasn't like that. Beckett's character, after all that development in the first 5 seasons just went down. and castle too. it's becoming too sappy and over dramatic. but I still want to know what happens. Deep down inside I'm still watching hoping they will figure out something to Make the show as interesting as it used to be. :/
Just found this show a few months ago on Hulu and it's officially one of the best shows ever created. It takes such incredible skill and talent for the writers and actors to maintain an engaging storyline for even 4 seasons, much less 8. Not once do they slip into a lull and let you get bored, this is the only show I think could've lasted even longer than 8 seasons (and I've always been adamant that most don't need to be longer than 4)
they deserved an emmy for this scene only. But unfortunely this show is too much underrated.I know they shows with more audience but this show is really good:casting acting, writing soundtrack , wardrobe everything.
I also loved this scene. NF outstanding in many episodes esp when Alexis kidnapped. Acting range remarkable. If rumors correct that they couldn't stand each other last 2 yrs, then they are both outstanding actors cuz it didnt show on screen esp in kissing scenes, loved those. Best series ever.
Castle left here because he'd already watched her die once and it nearly destroyed him even though she was saved in the end. There's no way he could have survived seeing it happen again and he knew it. I suspect he'd have stayed anyway but for the fact he had Alexis and Martha to think about as well. I rate this scene as the very best of Season 4, possibly the entire show. It shows the enormous development Castle himself has undergone since he met Kate and the huge emotional commitment he's developed to her and her well being that is only matched by that to his daughter and mother.
I've watched this like a million times and I am still amazed at the emotion that these two amazing actors portray. I love the way Nathan's voice drops to a whisper and cracks at the perfect time.
The score in the background gives me *life* the way it stops abruptly after castle says he loves her and they way it slowly comes back in after Beckett starts talking but with an obvious tone shift *chefs kiss*
oh my god I watch this scene over and over because of the sheer power and quality of the acting but every time I cry ,Nathan and stana are amazing actors,
This scene and the hotel scene in "To Love and Die in LA" are Nathan's best work. Here he's clearly frustrated that his plan to keep her safe will not work because Kate is a much stronger person than he thought. In "LA" his own personal weakness doesn't allow him to express what they both clearly feel and a week later it is apparently too late. The writing at this point in the series (season 3-4) was amazingly connected to the personalities of the characters and the on-going story-lines as revealed early in season 1. Castle at it's absolute best.
OMG it's five years since this episode and I'm still crying everytime I watch it. This is the most powerful and emotional scene of the show. I still can't get over it. You can see how shocked Beckett is when Castle says he loves her. And you can also see the same pain in their eyes. I'm living for these two!!! 😍 #Caskettforever
This scene made me a fan of the show. I was flipping though tv & it was on TNT. I watched this & I was hooked. I love these two together. Also the kissing scene at the end of this episode, amazing. Best kiss ever.
It sucks that you missed the build up to these scenes. They were both in denial for like 4 seasons and when they were finally open about it i lost my shit.
I love the fact that Castle told out loud his feelings in the most toughtest moment in their life. They were both right and wrong like it is happen in real life.
There are a lot of sweet and romantic moments between this two.But this one is one of the most dramatic and my favorite by far.The way he tries to convince her,to confront her.I miss Castle so much.
So hardened, so bitter, she took "everything" he told her, twisted it up and threw it back in his face! This would never have bothered a "player", a passing fling, a one night stand. This is how you wound someone who loves you and worships the ground you walk on, a keeper!
She didn't want him to walk away. She wanted him to stay by her side like he did a year ago (she just couldn't say). She was almost crying at the end :(
god i just can't express what this show means to me, what this scene does to me but i know that the most gut wrenching part about Castle's speech has got to be the part where he says okay, cuz he stood by her for four years and she finally managed to drive him away, to make him give up. i think that that was one of the most brilliant scenes i've ever seen.
I refuse to believe Nathan and Katic hated each other. From what I've read, both actors are really good people and the idea that they can have such great chemistry for 8 seasons and hate each other offset is ridiculous.
so i just finished watching this entire show tonight and let me tell you, this show is just brilliant! wished i watched it alongside all the fans as if aired on television, but better late than never !
It would have been ballsy if they had let this play out in the realistic way that Kate goes through with it, and dies, with the final scene being her funeral with Castle and everyone else present. Would have added some extra punch to this scene. But, you know, happy endings.
Where were they going to go after defeating loksat? The format couldn't continue - some of the episodes in series 8 were pretty weak - which is probably why they terminated Stana's contract. She would have ended up dying and Castle would have spent series 9 avenging her - or something. I preferred the ending we got - 7 years later and 3 kids. Even if it was a last minute call back when ABC pulled the series!
Returning to this video after several years I'm glad that both Nathan and Stana have their own tv-shows now. Both "The Rookie" and "Absentia" feel like spin-offs to Castle. Just in different directions. I highly advice to check out both shows.
10 years later. I don’t know how the algorithm works but I have never searched on UA-cam for Castle. Yet here it is. I watched it like 8 years ago for the first time and now I’m rewatching this maybe for the third time and omg this makes me cry every time. I’m so glad that I found a fandom even if it’s 10 yo. It is a great show, great actresses and actors and great scenarios. Absolutely love
He gave her a choice, it was either him or that , kind of hard for castle to watch her with different men , she lied to him , hurt him so many times. She knew that this was probably castle's last stand , she will normally go on dates with guys before sleeping with then ,but with castle she was forced to do something drastic , she knew that having sex with him was the only way to keep him from going
I just wonder how many takes they went through. Nathan was amazing in this scene...his face going red, tears in his eyes.and his voice getting higher as he got more upset.
There's so much in this scene that blows my mind. I love at the beginning how Stana is playing kate all happy, and eager, but like, I don't know you can just see Kate hiding behind something, but she's coming off as determined. And then BAM. Instant change in character. Most actors and actresses will kind of combine the two. If they are doing a sad scene, the entire scene is sad. They both nailed it.
Exactly. Because we never got to see the ending of Cap'n Reynolds with Inara. "Heart of Gold" was the first time you see Inara have intense feelings from Mal -- only to realize that Mal believed that if he let Inara in, it would throw the order of Serenity straight out the damn airlock. Command, whether a ship or a town, is a lonely place.
@@isaiahwelch8066 if you need some sort of resolution to them, read Firefly comics. In "Leaves on the wind" or "No power in the verce" they are together And still flying on Serenity.
I´m from Germany. I´ve seen some episodes in "german", find it nice - than looking for more episodes and find this scene. Nathan Fillions voice is so heartbreaking in this, such a great acting , this scene ist so perfekt.
Just one of the best series ever. Even with the whole "i was kidnapped and can't remember" storyline. The chemistry between them though (although they hate each other in RL). Unique.

I just learned of Castle over the last month and a half. I ended up buying ALL 8 seasons and watching them. I have NEVER felt so obsessed and in love with a TV series before in my life. So SAD it has ended. It is nice to see you just posted a comment over the last week. Makes me kind of feel that the series is still alive. :(
This show portrayed an indirect romance (idk what the correct word for it is) for years and years up till season 7 i guess, and it was probably the best i have ever seen, its like the feeling of when you fall in love, you are excited everytime you go to meet your crush or to a place where you see her and nothing has been said or made official but there is this budding feeling that grows stronger and stronger and is mutual. It is like a build up to something sooo beautiful. This show captured it so brilliantly, when they actually got into a relationship I actually missed the older seasons.
"Everyday I bring you a cup of coffee just to see you smile" That has got to be the sweetest thing Castle has said to Kate. :')

Nathan killed it!!! One of the most powerful scene of the whole serie!
I love reading all these comments and seeing everyone being so into the show as I was 🥹
I know I wasn’t the only one, “Because I love you” and that’s how to make a grown man cry
2024 and I still watch this. This was so impactful
Me too.
It’s honestly good to know that after all these years, I’m not the only one still obsessed with it!
It tore my heart a little the way he said "Im right here!"... :,(
Castle left here because he'd already watched her die once and it nearly destroyed him even though she was saved in the end.
6 years later and still my #1 show anyone 2018
The score in the background gives me *life* the way it stops abruptly after castle says he loves her and they way it slowly comes back in after Beckett starts talking but with an obvious tone shift *chefs kiss*
oh my god I watch this scene over and over because of the sheer power and quality of the acting but every time I cry ,Nathan and stana are amazing actors,
The most heartbreaking episode :'/
This scene and the hotel scene in "To Love and Die in LA" are Nathan's best work. Here he's clearly frustrated that his plan to keep her safe will not work because Kate is a much stronger person than he thought. In "LA" his own personal weakness doesn't allow him to express what they both clearly feel and a week later it is apparently too late. The writing at this point in the series (season 3-4) was amazingly connected to the personalities of the characters and the on-going story-lines as revealed early in season 1. Castle at it's absolute best.
J D BRAUNER I don't disagree but you should see Whedon's take on "Much Ado About Nothing." Nathan might be the greatest Dogberry in history
She isn't stronger, she's so stubborn.
@@terezakohoutova7602 and a little bit selfish
Being stubborn and an unwillingness to preserve your own life doesn't make her stronger....
Nathan's best acting is season 7 when he went after Jerry Tyson
this scene was and remain the best reflection of stana and nathan great acting skills, and also shows the good writing quality
Most powerful and emotional 5 mins of my life
since then i never ever found a show to make me feel this, ever , to feel this connection between a couple no ..
How the hell can you do this?
'cause I LOVE YOU. But you already now that, don't you? you know for about a year…
I read this as soon as the line started
A truly memorable show !!! Both were stunning !!! Nate & Stana !!!
Kate Beckett is one of the characters on TV where I cannot help but love her.
This is such a great show. I miss it. I LOVED this show from it's beginning. Thanks for sharing this.
Love his scene, and the music just makes it a thousand times better
This scene made me a fan of the show. I was flipping though tv & it was on TNT. I watched this & I was hooked. I love these two together. Also the kissing scene at the end of this episode, amazing. Best kiss ever.
It sucks that you missed the build up to these scenes. They were both in denial for like 4 seasons and when they were finally open about it i lost my shit.
+Greyfoxdbz18 Maybe in denial, but they both knew there was something available after their first kiss in "Knockdown"
Castle will forever be my favourite show
I love the fact that Castle told out loud his feelings in the most toughtest moment in their life. They were both right and wrong like it is happen in real life.
There are a lot of sweet and romantic moments between this two.But this one is one of the most dramatic and my favorite by far.The way he tries to convince her,to confront her.I miss Castle so much.
The look on his face right before he said because I love you says it all. He knew he couldn't bite his tong on that anymore.
So hardened, so bitter, she took "everything" he told her, twisted it up and threw it back in his face! This would never have bothered a "player", a passing fling, a one night stand. This is how you wound someone who loves you and worships the ground you walk on, a keeper!
This show still has my heart after all these years
This scene keeps me crying. :/
Great rendering of an excellent scene from this marvelous series. Thank you.
AMAZING scene! Nathan Fillion deserved an Emmy for this. Makes me cry every time.
I love this scene, and such a great acting from Stana and Nathan.
She didn't want him to walk away. She wanted him to stay by her side like he did a year ago (she just couldn't say). She was almost crying at the end :(
It's been 5 years since this came out and I can still quote this entire scene! I love and miss Castle so much!!!!
Omg, I love this scene. Castle is my favourite tv serie.
The whole thing gave me chills. It really shows Castle's emotional frustration. Great scene, awesome acting :)
god i just can't express what this show means to me, what this scene does to me but i know that the most gut wrenching part about Castle's speech has got to be the part where he says okay, cuz he stood by her for four years and she finally managed to drive him away, to make him give up. i think that that was one of the most brilliant scenes i've ever seen.
Kate has tears in her eyes at the end
"Let them come," Optimis Prime said calmly!
OMG, I remember this episode. Please tell me it has not been 10 years. Whew. Man. 🤯
I refuse to believe Nathan and Katic hated each other. From what I've read, both actors are really good people and the idea that they can have such great chemistry for 8 seasons and hate each other offset is ridiculous.
I think they had great chemistry on the set but, I do believe there were issues off camera and that is a shame.
I don't think they hated each other the entire series. They're probably had a misunderstanding in the last season.
No, it's true the series ended partially because of their spats. If the series had continued the producers already agreed Katic would not be back.
so i just finished watching this entire show tonight and let me tell you, this show is just brilliant! wished i watched it alongside all the fans as if aired on television, but better late than never !
Nathan is great with comedy and all but he just kills me when he does dramatic scenes. Love this one.
Yes, he is a good dramatist. It shows off and during the series.
One of the best shows to ever exist💘
Yeah this hurts. Since the show is over and the finale just wasn't what they deserved! ABC really screwed up!
It would have been ballsy if they had let this play out in the realistic way that Kate goes through with it, and dies, with the final scene being her funeral with Castle and everyone else present. Would have added some extra punch to this scene. But, you know, happy endings.
General Ablon probably better than the mess it became
ABC always screws up good series. This is strike 2 for me.
0:17 love how he puts himself between Beckett and the murderboard ...
I watched this scene my first time and I'm absoloutley speechless .
The score in this episode though! So simple yet it brings out the drama and suspense in this episode!
Nathan always deserves an Emmy.
0:29 he’s right, a farther of a teenager knows this because he’s heard I’m on form his daughter for years he’s learned lots.
Richard Castle acting in this scene is the best I've seen from him
I just wonder how many takes they went through.
Nathan did an amazing job in that scene amazing that's this kind of scene which make me love the show so much
... Still can't get over Firefly. Damn you Fox.
Похуй...
@@isaiahwelch8066 if you need some sort of resolution to them, read Firefly comics. In "Leaves on the wind" or "No power in the verce" they are together And still flying on Serenity.
@@isaiahwelch8066 Also Inara didn't want to give into her feelings as she was supposed to be dying.
miss this two... #favsceneofalltime
Fine, UA-cam, I'll rewatch Castle
This is the most epic moment from all the series. The acting, the emotions😍😍😍 Castle's confession gives me goosebumps every time.
this is acting dynamite at its best
Stana, a reservoir of talent. Perfect. ☆☆☆☆☆
This had me in tears... My heart was breaking for him! This is exactly I love Nathan Fillion!
I’ve never watched this series but I’ve been obsessed watching these videos of them this one made me tear up
Watch it and you will understand the pain
I´m from Germany. I´ve seen some episodes in "german", find it nice - than looking for more episodes and find this scene.
Nathan Fillions voice is so heartbreaking in this, such a great acting , this scene ist so perfekt.
Hi from America.
@@shenglong9818 goog morning america
@@HBMR334 I hope you have a nice day and good weather in Germany.
@@shenglong9818 same to you :) and stay save
Just one of the best series ever. Even with the whole "i was kidnapped and can't remember" storyline.
The chemistry between them though (although they hate each other in RL). Unique.
kidnapped?
They don't hate each other
They don’t, both of ‘em denied that bullshit.I mean how could you act with this much passion if you hate your co-worker?
Castle:"Because I love you.." Andddd...cue the waterworks!
This scene breaks me every time. Tremendous acting and character development
This is peak drama series
Damn. It's 12 years since this episode and I still know almost every word of this scene 🙈
Been rewatching Castle lately and OH MY GOODNESS THIS SCENE WAS EVERYTHING! Until the next scene at the end of this episode...which I'm sure most people know what I'm talking about!
My heart melted at the end of this episode. That last scene, the sadness and love on both of their eyes killed me😢
I love this scene 😻🥰💕
I love these and miss these I want it back on tv
This Episode is my Favorite of the Series. This scene is very powerful between Castle and Beckett.
Bro they made us wait 4 Friggin seasons isn’t that enough for them to get together? 😂
