Instacart Shoppers Earn Below Minimum Wage & Justify It- VETERAN SHOPPERS UPSET

Instacart shoppers are earning below minimum wage and are justifying why. Instacart is NOT a charity, yet shoppers are treating it as such. Veteran Instacart Shoppers are outraged that shoppers are taking these exploitative batch payments which ruins it for all shoppers who are trying to earn a wage with dignity. As long as Instacart is getting their customers served, they are perfectly okay with shoppers working for free.

I have a screenshot thats almost two months old for $7.46 to shop for 62 items and drive 4 miles. I also have two screenshots from Costco and Staples where customers purchased the Apple earbuds and didn’t tip a nickel, and a $9.50 batch with no tip for 139 items. What really cheesed me was that last interview with Fidji, the reporter asked if this was representative of Instacart but failed miserably to put the spot light on Fidji and ask why they permit their algorithm push the batch out on their app. I knew then that interview was all planned out and Fidji likely even got shown the questions ahead of time. Lousy interview from the reporter.

It’s such a shame what some desperate shoppers have allowed IC to become. They’ve made it the norm to accept multiples and long distances. We veterans wouldn’t take those and IC was forced to accept peak boosts up to $22 extra and separate multiples back into singles. Low and no tipping customers don’t deserve service - let IC pay the difference and wait! Don’t swipe blindly.

Spot on Jen!! Even the order’s that are popping up with a tip are a ton of item’s with a very low tip. I have to spend a lot of time sitting in my vehicle because I’m not providing a service for Free. I certainly don’t mind taking lower pay order’s that’s make sense the mileage and the item’s need to make sense tho! I’m constantly every other day having to refill up with gas . And you can tell if you are not taking the rubbish that’s on the screen it’s almost like you aren’t getting anything for a huge period of time almost like hey you aren’t getting another offer! Over the last 3 weeks I have gotten some really good batches but then it’s like a teeter totter effect you are up then the next day you are down. This line of work is really only intended to make some side money. I seen a Costco order this evening from my house it was a double paying $16 going 20 miles no tip for both order’s it sat there for 7 minute’s then it went away came back paying $34 … The system was testing then when the order didn’t get taken it raised it up with no boosts listed. Even at $34 I can’t believe someone took it. Sorry folk’s but as long as you keep taking the rubbish you are accepting being taken advantage of. And these double store order’s if you are smart and don’t take them the order’s will reappear not together!

if i sit there long enough I might get a good shop? I really want to know i feel like im being screwed right now. I took a chance the other day and did a no tip one. man i regretted it. the person was picky, a lot of times were out of stock. The guy was polite.
it was 111.00 order he tipped me 7 dollars in cash, he lived in apartment and knew he was lowballing me, He kept saying how much appreciated me. All i kept thinking, dude you should have rode the bus to a grocery store.
i didnt except a no tip after that.
Where do I learn to get the goodstuff? And channels you recommend? I like shopping for people better than delivering food, but i need better pay like 20 or more per hour to keep doing this. Would appreciate any tips you have. thanks

@@EileenJOfficial in my state the only store that gives me any benefit financially is Costco. But you have to play your cards right on those batches as well. One of the other shopper’s that does Costco took a decent order today and as soon as the second order got dropped off the customer removed all of the tip for no reason and delivery was far. That is so insulting and hurtful that people want to be catered to and they want to take away from the person who took the time to provide them a service… I see how expensive it is for a customer to have to place an order but if they can’t afford it they should seek other option’s.. we have to put food on the table as well.. I love doing Instacart but I can’t provide charity while I’m out doing this. I will be happy to help charity in other way’s. With inflation the low tip, no tip, and tip removal is going to increase. My best advise is don’t take anything that isn’t going to benefit you!

There was a 70 dollar order for 44 miles the other day, but the batch pay was 31 something and the tip was gonna be 38 and some change. I screen shot the batch for evidence. The item count was 40ish items and 58 total. I did not accept the order because I felt like it was a baited shop. Also, where it was going to take me is well out of my area and I know that there would be less areas to shop over there and I would have to drive back within my area to start getting good orders again. I've been getting 10-15 dollar orders at about 2 miles or so from the store I park outside of which is fine, but when I start seeing these larger orders with high miles and less pay, I decline.

I had a promotion offer 30 out of 31 days in march . "Complete 5 batches today and get a guaranteed $90 " It would say . Sometimes as hi as 6 batches for $150 . There is no minimum size for the batch to count towards the promotion so if i take 6 of the smallest orders i see , say all of them are $7 and i get $150 for completing them then why not ? Instead of $42 they will add $118 to it for doing 6 orders that nobody wants to do . Not everyone is seeing the same promotions in an area so just because it was only offered to you for $7 that batch may be worth more to another shopper than you think it is . I have been doing IC for almost a year. Get great reviews. Normally a 5 start shopper until recently. I had a couple of people give me 3 stars as they disputed items they darn well got and were not damaged. I am seeing an uptick in people disputing items to help cover the cost of having delivery They also justify it by giving bad ratings. So now I am getting bad order opportunities and it makes a challenge to get enough orders to rotate out the three-star ratings. A catch-22 situation. As gas prices go up every day, I am amazed IC isn't addressing that. The token $0.40 they are giving is a joke......it costs me $0.20 per mile in just the gas I use for my SUV. I think it's insane that the platform is paying .40cents as an incentive for fuel. How do they not consider we have to drive so far just to find a store with actual work. I need to drive 5 to 6 miles just to find a store that actually has work, but there are almost 10 instacart workers in the same store. I don't get paid to get to the store only after i shop and drive does my driving count. Anyone can say it's your choice to drive that far which is true, but if the shoppers don't drive to the store the orders would never be picked up or shopped, so how does that not count as reimbursement of gas in some matter. These areas I go I can guarantee the workers do not live in these wealthier areas.

IC accepts ebt transactions now. Unfortunately people paying with ebt are low income and assume you signed up for it so they don’t tip. Usually people who don’t tip at restaurants. I’ve done IC since 2018 off and on. I place an order in the app and then Go to the shoppers app just to see how much the batch will be. I always tip 20 percent..The order was lumped in with two other orders and no tip from the others. I was pissed! I made sure I told the shopper I was the one that tipped and also to please message me if she has questions about the order and I’m a fellow IC shopper..

@@dianehutchins22 IC only takes EBT at certain stores in my area but not all of them. I unfortunately need some of that assistance but also always tip the shopper on the app about 15% but I choose the other amount option when tipping in app. (I remember doing food delivery back in the day). I also almost give a little extra between $5 and $10 cash at time of delivery. I appreciate the service when I need it. Hoping the shoppers know I am tipping if mine is in a multi batch. They should see it once they deliver all orders in a batch. I have had a few repeat shoppers now so hoping with the new rating customers thing that no one blocks me from seeing my orders.

I feel that is not obvious enough to a customer so I never ordered even one case of water or juice or one full gallon of milk, or even a 2 liter or a 12 pack of soda.

Jen, thank you for continuing to educate all the newbies because IC does their best in lying to them. As a former veteran shopper, I averaged below a fair and reasonable wage and took anything that paid anything, but still wasn't good enough. Sadly, something was better than nothing and IC knows this so very well. They are extremely sleazey and time will tell. They are all for themselves and heck with the people that does all the work. My market in Southeast Ohio has practically crashed except for the weekends. Even then, most batches pays extremely poor. I worked 2.5 hours last Sunday and made $40 because the customer paid a decent tip, which Im very grateful. Orders are few and far in-between and gone within seconds. The price of gas and inflation in general is hurting a whole lot of people, and my hunch is most people are returning back to shopping for themselves. I'm shopping for myself now including terminating my membership at Walmart, which never boosted prices on their items. I decided to keep my Amazon Prime because there are many Nutrional items that no one else around my area sells. Please keep up all the Great work because I do believe that IC is starting to hurt because of inflation and all the very bad publicity that IC deserves and receives.

The reason the batches are getting accepted so fast with low paying batches is because they hire more shoppers and giving promos to the new shoppers. So basically 8 batches get extra 35 dollar. But Instacart service is going to go bad. Because the veterans shoppers knows how to handle situations with the app and items. So at the end lesser orders for everyone Because of bad customer service. Which will make customers not want to use Instacart

And if a batch has 60 items they better be ponying up $30 or more for me to take it. I will never devalue myself. If you can afford to order your groceries with all the outrageous fees you can afford to tip. Instacart is a greedy greedy company.

I only accept orders that pay a MINIMUM of $1 per item, and are less than 10 miles from the store...also, NO TRIPLES EVER, and
DOUBLES only if they meet the two requirements I mentioned above. I would NEVER shop a 60 item order for any less than a $60 in batch pay. The orders that meet this criteria are out there...you just have to be patient, and willing to walk away from your phone for a bit if all the batches you are seeing are paying less than $1 per item...give it a rest and log back on in 30 min or so and check the orders in the queue again...you should see a few big orders to pick from.

Hi Jen, I just started following you and I do both Shiit and Instacart as my full time job. I am 59 and I live in Ohio. I have been doing both because I lost my job during the pandemic and needed to pay my bills (like we all do.)
I have to make a certain amount so I will only take the larger paying orders however, I took a shop over this past weekend and it was a $26 dollar shop for one customer and it showed that it had a $6.23 tip as well. The map looked as though it was around a 16 mile deliver and it was only 7 items. The minute I walked in Meijer and clicked the start shop, I immediately got a message that the shop had been updated. It dropped down to a $16 dollar pay with NO TIP and it became a 26 mile one way drive. I was sooo “sorry” PISSED. I remembered you talking about the “bait and switch” tactic they use and I could not believe they finally got me!!! Not only that but a major road was shut down and I had to drive farther to get to the next crossroad to get to the small rural town which made it a 30 mile drive one way so 60 miles of gas later…. Then the customer knew they removed the tip because they did not communicate with me thru the whole shop and 5 of the 7 items needed subs. It wasn’t until I was half way there that the customer responded and said I am soo sorry I just saw this and any sub is fine. This is a small town that has many Instacart local orders and shoppers and they all use the local Kroger store so why this customer wanted the general items from Meijer 30 miles away, I will never know. I then felt uneasy and wondered if it was a sketchy customer and I was being lured into a bad situation. It was not but you can bet I marked it as a bad shop and told Instacart about it in a long message because I knew they did it because no one would take it before I did so they upped the pay and probably knew the customer drops the tip after every accepted shopper picks up their order. I will probably not get anymore decent shops from Instacart after I gave this delivery a bottom of the barrel rating and blasted Instacart for the bait and switch tactic they used. I should turn them into the better business bureaus for how they treat their self employed shopper employees.
I love listening to you and appreciate your honesty. Totally agree with not taking the $6 and $7 dollar orders with no tip or $2 dollar tips. Slap in the face. Our time is more valuable than that! Period… done with rant and I apologize to you and everyone for this extremely (book) long comment. Stay safe and cool out there my fellow buggy pushers.

They are probably trying to get one of the promos or bonuses that IC intermittently offers certain Shoppers (which we can't see in the batches). That's the only way it makes sense. 🤷 However, Shoppers still need to evaluate each batch as a stand alone otherwise you're teaching the algorithm you'll take crap and that's all it will offer you.

The delivery was 62.4 miles. $2.12 tip. My wife took one for 42 miles because it was a large tip but the customer complained from the very beginning when she saw how far away my wife was. Then removed the tip. She was reported and the tip was restored and the customer was removed from the platform because she had a history of being rude to the shoppers. But this long distance stuff from Instacart has got to stop. I see 6 or 7 a day of 20+ mile deliveries with low pay and these new shoppers are taking them. I am not one of those customers. When they send newbie shoppers, they sometimes have to send another shopper (no tip order) to finish or correct my original order. I always tip the second shopper. I have been watching your videos and other IC content creators to be a better customer, and I want the veteran IC shoppers to see my name and scoop up the batch so I don't have to suffer through newbie shopper stress. I'm not in position to donate anything, including my time and effort. Otherwise I'd be a part of some charity. You know, a lot of people cannot afford foaming. So, they buy some Dimond dust from Walmart or nothing at all. Same applies here. You can't afford to tip, shop at some discount store yourself. Majority of shoppers work very hard to make living. So take care of yourself and your family or go work as a volunteer if you want. Nothings wrong with it.
