as much as im a traditional long term purple fan, i have to say this was a great line up and the music was excellent and innovative in the purple tradition
i adore the raw guitar sound of blackmore here , out of this world, so intense but so melodic ... thanks for uploading bye the way , i was there , great memories, long time ago, wish i could be there again, and this video makes it all happen again ...
Hey this is cool, I wish the studio version had more guitar, Roger mixed Ritchies guitar low, almost under Lord's keyboards it sound's so much better turned up loud. a few songs on that CD didn't sound very Purple, this one does, just, the most Purple sounding song on it is " Cut Run's Deep " Turner's got one of the best vocals around, it's a shame fans didnt' give him a chance with all the Deep Rainbow crap as he says do fans call the new line up Deep Dregs, he has a point.
Turner Want to make Purple commercial!!! But as we all know Deep Purple wasn't a commercial band!!! They were musicians first of all!!! I believe that all the people who played for this band gave things but THE DEEP PURPLE singer was and will always be IAN GILLAN!!!
Dude I Love the purple from all the early days Evans, Gillan,Coverdale and when Ian Gillan rejoined Deep Purple for Perfect Strangers & The House Of Blue Light albums I followed those tours Ian Gillan was On but when they recorded The Battle Rages On the band fell flat maybe the song Anya has some purple power but the rest of the album is weak.
Joe Lynn Turner: one of the best AOR Melodic/Hard Rock singers ever (but not right for Deep Purple)...with Lou Gramm probably the best one in his field...Rainbow albums with him and many songs from his solo albums and projects show it...
Yep, sold out in much smaller venues than in 1984-88. Fans preferred listening to Gillan w. vocal nodes screaming and struggling through the classic songs, than Turner totally butchering 'Highway Star' for instance. I'd rather hear Coverdale sing it with horrible vocals by Glenn Hughes like back in the mid 70's, than Turner.
Agreed, BRO has to be worst DP album, I was so disappointed when I bought it...other than Anya that is the scaffolding of a decent song, the rest is an aimless and shapeless jam. No surprise Gillan was called back after the backing tracks were finished...
'Slaves & Masters ' are their worst release, it's even worse than 'Abandon', 'Come Taste The Band' and ' 'Rapture of the Deep'. Joe Lynn Turner was, is and shall always be an a**hole that is full of himself. Lord and Paice couldn't stand his stage behaviour. Even Blackmore finally agreed and they fired him and started looking for a new singer in 1992, and that was before Gillan was back in the fold. He did some good songs w. Rainbow, that's it. He thrives on that to this day...just sad.
Yet, Cattle Grazes On, was lame, and no surprise the sound of Purple (Blackmore) left the band. Gillian always had a knack for his ridiculous lyrics, even in Sabbath. Seriously.. "One Man's Meat"? LOL. Turner's version of what that song would have been was far superior.
@analogueaddict "Deep and maningful"? It's the same old AOR "love-rock" (mostly) that we saw in Rainbow with Turner... Turner is a singer, not a lyricist. Even Lord has stated that Turner ruined this. Lord had a great composition with what was to become 'Love Conquers All', but when Turner became the main lyricist for the 'S&M' project, it was ruined, according to Lord. Anyone calling Gillan a "geriatric rapper", shouldn't be allowed to call themselfs a Deep Purple fan. You sir, are a disgrace..
