    Great instructions. But for beginners - especially those who have fear of water and even more so if you are an adult, understand that this is a slow process - so take it easy.
    1st - learn how to breathe when in water in the shallow end with your feet on the ground. IN through the mouth above water, OUT through the nose (ideally) or mouth under water. Learn to blow bubbles through your nose effortlessly - like humming under water.
    2nd - learn to float on your front with face down and then on your back. This step may require some kicking with the feet. Get a feel of the natural buoyancy of your body. Start by holding the edge of the pool or have someone by your side - in the shallow end.
    3rd - learn how to breath when you are floating face down - this is tricky and needs a lot of practice - start with a flotation device and then without or hold the edge of the pool. The trick is to NOT stop kicking when you raise your head to breath.
    4th - learn to go under water in the shallow end (like shown in the video) and come up for breathing. This step will help you to gain confidence in water tremendously!
    5th - learn to doggy paddle - in the shallow end and be able to breath. You could start with a flotation device (like shown in the video) then without.
    6th If you feel confident then you could go into the deep end of the pool and try the doggy paddle.
    And there is a lot more steps, but I am an adult learning to swim and am at step 5 now. The deep end at my pool is 10 feet.
    If I could have it my way, I would first learn to tread water - first in shallow end and then in the deep-end before I try step 6. But that's just me. I have fear of drowning, because I almost drowned accidentally when I was a kid. The fear is very real. A lot of swim instructors most likely learnt this skill when there were kids themselves and don't seem to have a good understanding of the anxiety of the beginner. They assume everyone should be able to just get in the water and swim - even more so if the student is an adult.
    More importantly though, go and get in the pool. Try your local YMCA or other resources. If you don't like the instructor find another one.
    Do research with online videos to understand the mechanics involved in swimming, but also let your body decide how it wants to do somethings as a beginner. You can always go back and make corrections to the techniques. This channel has some great videos. There are also others if you are someone that likes to know the deeper details like 'why you do what you do' or if you need progressive breakdown of each step.
    Cheers!

      Hey Desi, thanks for commenting, that's some great advice! We're really glad these videos are helping you learn to swim, it's definitely not easy to overcome a fear of water. Have you considered sharing these videos with your swimming instructor? All the best with step 6 and conquering the deep end- and do let us know how you get on!

    I almost drowned in 5th grade when we had to take swimming classes. We had to go to the 15ft side of the pool and tread water. I freaked out and panicked. One thing my teacher told me was to stay calm and relax. From there on, I’ve became a great swimmer. I can now hold my breath for 6 mins and I’m not afraid of very deep waters anymore. I’m now 27. NUMBER 1 rule - STAY CALM!!!!!

    The problem is the video doesnt point out how calm he is and how he is managing his breath ... not breathing out all the air at once (bobble/bubbling)

  • @speedy6997
    @speedy6997 Рік тому +4

    It's all about breathing technique, remember if there is no air in your lungs you will sink, therefore always keep at least 30-50% air in your lungs, and breathe a little out but more in. Learn this technique in the shallow end, then try mid-chest level water. you will find it easier to stay afloat and swim. once you mastered this you can try the deep end (always have someone experienced nearby!).
    whatever you do, do not panic! most people drown because of this. it messes their breathing technique, uses a lot of energy and your body becomes tense. a tense body does not float on water. make yourself light as a feather and surrender to the water, you be surprised youl float (following the technique above of course).

    I'm trying for Olympic triathlon. Swimming pool depth is 7 feet. I'm scared of swimming in 7 feet, as I practiced only in 5feet. Hope, this video may help me to get confidence and get out of that deep water fear.

    • @SikanaEnglish
      @SikanaEnglish  7 років тому +1

      Don't worry, there's really not much difference betwen 7 and 5 feet, and if you're training to be in the Olympics, you shouldn't need to worry about your feet being able to touch the floor or not since you'll be swimming the whole time and not standing up in the water!. In any case, we really hope the video helps you, did you see the other ones in this playlist? Follow through them all and they should help you build you confidence

    • @jasonm2091
      @jasonm2091 3 роки тому +4

      Yes the fear of everyone. You are not alone. The TRUTH is that you will not drown in any second. You ALWAYS have time. Learn to convince yourself that you always have time, because that is the truth. It sounds stupid, but you never need to breath at any particular moment. Learn to be okay with being under water and not breathing. Your body can go quite a while without breathing. Get used to it. Best way to bea able to swim is to get comfortable with not breathing.

    Ok I just went into the deep end yesterday confidently it was From learning how breath in the shallow end first getting underwater pushing of from the wall having fun. When you get comfortable there then go to the point where the water comes to your kneck and try to breath out your head under water come back up try to move up and down at the same depth then try to learn how to swim under water. You should feel that it is much easier to swim at the medium depth side of the pool then learn to bring your head up above to water with just your arms and then learn to use your legs. When you get confident enough to go to the point where the slope for the deep end is you can’t touch the ground but get a person who can swim to come up and down with you take. Don’t go to this step if you haven’t swam at the middle part of the swimming pool then with lots of encouragement from your friends hold the ledge and swim from a distance you know you can go to reach the other ledge in the deep end and slowly you should be able to stay in the deep end

    • @SikanaEnglish
      @SikanaEnglish  7 років тому +1

      We do respond as quickly as we can! You don't need to worry about water getting your nose and giving you a cold - it will evacuate naturally on its own! If you feel like you have a lot of water stuck in your nose after a swim then blow it out in a tissue, but really, this shouldn't be a problem. If you get water stuck in your ears, it will flow out naturally on its own too - you can speed this up by keeping your head tilted to the side where the water is in your ear, to help it flow out more quickly. If you are worried about catching a cold then just make sure that you dry your hair and body well before you leave the pool. If you appreciate our videos and our comments then please like us on facebook and share our page and videos to help us grow! Have a great day :)

    • @everythingnice949
      @everythingnice949 5 років тому

      I recommend u to go to a pool that is higher than your height for like a few inches, in this way your body will be forced to swim

    But when you breathe out the air in your lungs while underwater, how do you stay underwater when you don’t have any oxygen in your lungs? Like how do you swim underwater without any oxygen in your lungs?

    if my feet is not touching in swimming pool which is deep then what should I do.

    • @SikanaEnglish
      @SikanaEnglish  7 років тому

      Hi Amanveer, thanks for your question! First of all, don't panic- when your lungs are filled with air, they will act as a natural buoyancy aid so you don't need to worry about sinking. Take a look at the different steps in this video to get used to being in the deep end of the pool. If you don't know how already, we'd also recommend you check out our video on treading water so you can stay afloat with your head above water, even when your feet aren't touching the floor. You can find it with this link: bit.ly/2sRPu4y
      Hope this helps, let us know how you get on! :)

      @@pikaxhu7088 I had a BIG TERRIBLE experiment when I was Primary 5.My mom just actually book the deepest pool(1.2m-1.6m) among the swimming class form.Originally,I want the pool with a better depth(0.8m-1.4m).But,she said that she need to book the deepest pool because my dad work near the pool so he can took me home for short time.
      When I go the swimming pool,the water is just cover my full body expect head.How come can a swimming pool start off at 1.2m deep?!?That’s kinda nonsense. I almost drunk when I enter the pool.Luckily,there has a stage to make the water shallow.If the pool doesn’t have the stage,I will have a bad time.
