My late dad rode in an elevator together with Carol Channing when she was in Atlanta...she had a couple of her staff along with her. He said she acted very gracious...that was dad's "brush with greatness"...
Carol could do 700 performances because of her love & dedication to her craft, for the well-deserved praise she received, and strength of body and will to succeed. 👏👍👍🙂
What is so delightful and delovely about Carol is even as a great actress and smart woman, she has a certain very charming childlike quality, that is unique to her alone. I could watch Carol Channing read the phone book.
This is excellent to see one of my favorite character actors, I've only been watching this show for the past year and very grateful because this is alot of fun, thank you
Omgosh! Eli as a young man! I only know him from The Holiday (Jude Law, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz...) He's hilarious and Carol Channing is an American treasure.
Carol Channing seemed to be quite ditzy but actually was screamingly intelligent! Cool gal! I just looked her up on Wikipedia and RIP, she died this year (@97!)
Although Carol couldn't help but use gestures, she worked harder at giving clues than anyone & was a delight : ) And as always, Allen's closing: "The password tonight is..." was great. If we had shows like this on TV nowadays, maybe our current society would be in a better place.
Funny, for "Pretzel" the first clue I thought of was "Logic"… Of course, they would have to travel or foresee into the future after Steely Dan had produced that album :-)
Alan didn't hesitate to show his incredulity at the inept answers and clues. "Twisted". Frito?" "Frito?? No!! ha hah" . I like this. It's what the audience wants to scream out at the TV but in this day and age a host would never risk insulting the players. The host had more leeway back then.
I'm pretty sure "delovely" was hyphenated when Cole Porter (I assume) coined it, but over time, words change in the dictionary. I remember when "cornflakes" was a clue in the '60s (for "cereal"), and I expected Dr. Goodwin to buzz it, but he didn't.
In the 1964-'65 season, R.J. Reynolds {Salem, Camel} and Bristol-Myers {Bufferin, Clairol} were the alternate sponsors of the nighttime edition of "PASSWORD".
@@fromthesidelines funny Lucile Ball and Desi Arnaz used to do the adds for them , the very thing that took Desi's life and a big contributor to Luci's death as well. No reason to post this at all.

Eli was a charmer! Loved him! Carol, also! Of course!
My sentiments exactly!

Carol Channing is at SEVEN HUNDRED performances of Hello Dolly without missing ONE performance including matinees. How do they do it???
I love carol, so funny and is just awesome.
How did she do 700 performances of Hello Dolly without missing a show ? Amazing. She is so adorable. 🏵
You got that right !
Gotta love Carol Channing she’s wonderful and crazy in other words she’s normal and everyone are kooky 🤪
Carol Channing is so precious!!!! One year away from "The good, The Bad and The Ugly" for Eli.
One of the best films ever!
Tuco!!
That Flava Flav clock Carol wears is fabulous. Her exaggerated sense of humor always extended to her wardrobe choices.
Thanks for the upload, A really great episode...Carol Channing is just awesome
Carol Channing Was So Adorable.
Eli should have won an oscar for playing Tuco in "The Good the Bad and the Ugly"
I heartily concur !!
Cool that Carol gave a shout out to Ruth Lyons, legendary TV star on The 50/50 Club on WLW television in Cincinnati!
Wow! I haven't heard that name in forever. My mom always sent a check in every Christmas to the Ruth Lyons Childrens Fund.
Carol’s laugh changes everything! 😂

Aww I felt so bad that Carol thought she said "dull" about her when she really said "doll" awwww
Eli has those shifty eyes just like Tuco in the final scene of "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" LOL
He sure does !
Oodles of thanks for sharing all these great episodes with us! Wow....I never knew Eli Wallach had appeared on any TV game shows til now.
Carol Channing, one of the first and foremost African-American stage actresses!
Her father was indeed multiracial.
Love Carol to bits! Also ‘Styx’ was a bit too clever it seems but I love it!
love how carol says banana at 7:55
Natalie N Ban-nanna lol
hahahahaha
Yes, the way she said it certainly had a-peel !!
Carol Channing, " Hi Eli "
Eli Wallach, " Hey, Blondie"
Carol was a few decades ahead of Flavor Flav with that clock.
Tuco says: “When you have to shoot, shoot; don’t talk.”
Apricot" was a tough one! The one thing nobody tried was saying "… Pit" (said in that way that it's the second part of a two-part phrase, etc.)

Hey Allen, the river Styx wasn't in Paradise Lost. It was in Dante's Inferno.
Some of the guest celebrities appear to drag out the correct answers for suspenseful, dramatic effects.
Funny, for "Pretzel" the first clue I thought of was "Logic"… Of course, they would have to travel or foresee into the future after Steely Dan had produced that album :-)

I thought of "delovely," but I didn't think they'd accept it.

@Christopher Bingham it's not really a word, but it's a "word" in a Cole Porter song .
Such a great show. Too bad they sometimes rigged the outcome.
I guess goes without saying but… "Large?……" (for "Small" :-)
Eli should have been cast i some good rolls
I Often Get George C. Scott and Eli Wallach mixed up for all the Right Reasons. 🎨🎭🧸
Was Carol ever young?
Was she ever old???
25:04- "PASSWORD' was brought to you this evening by CAMEL CIGARETTES! Get with CAMEL- a REAL cigarette!"
I wonder if there was something in the news of the day about a child or children being rough with an animal?
The more he was with Betty White the more he encouraged animal care. That was one of her passions. That may be why he speaks of animals.
0:33- "Yes, it's 'PASSWORD'! Brought to you this evening by SALEM CIGARETTES! Turn to Salem for a taste that's 'Springtime Fresh'!"
I don't think anyone needs to see this. They killed so many of these celebrities.

Lmao. “What does your husband do” to a woman, what do you like to do?” To a man.
Allen was informed in advance if a female contestant worked or was a housewife.
@@malcolmmarshall5946 right! it's for the audience sake.
Simply the way it was at the time. They didn't need two incomes to survive!
Allen was rude about their guesses. Sometimes he is so annoying. 💥
I'm not that fond of Carol Channing. I mean, she's ok, but why is, everytime I see her, she always looks like she's drunk
More like snorted an 8 ball of coke. Lmao
Same reason why some other performers/actors were ‘charming’ or ‘tough’ or ‘silly’. Hers was ‘ditzy’
It's just her schtick. Like Norfolk says. She was the Diamonds lady full of glamour and ditziness. That was her thing.
I think ahe was adorable! She always had a childlike, innocent look to her.
She certainly acts and appears sauced here.
