  • After weeks of removing rust things are finally coming back together in this episode. One of the main things done in this video is the fabrication of a bracket that will secure the new oil catch can. I also cover what I’ve done off camera, which is a lot.

    Also, and probably more important, lol cracks me up as your odd ball viewer, everyone probably bugs you about car questions and your fellow former ASE viewers like myself ask things like: EC, what's the story on the tiny Iron Pan hanging by the garage door going into the house? There's a story there, I know it!
    The work you are putting into this car to sell it is, as always with you EC, nothing short of absolute Steller Work man! And I know the Struggle is REAL!
    Thanks EC. For me, 40 years of Working on Vehicles come this May! I can stop typing Nearly 40 years...my working has slowed down a lot since I got CRPS in my feet and legs. I'm just not able to do this level anymore, I'm down to the easy stuff now, although I have a Transmission rebuild waiting for a clean space to do that, one last really good adventure before im completely down to oil changes, battery replacement, lube, windshield wiper blades replacement, spark plugs and Brakes, and washer fluid.... funny, it just hit me typing this, as a mechanic, I think we we End how we started as a career...I can't think of another profession that does it like that..maybe there is and I can't think of it. Interesting. That's okay, I really shouldn't say my last adventure, its not, next to the transmission, I have a '78 Dodge Ramcharger to restore, and it begins with a starter replacement, need to be able to exercise the engine, as I don't want cylinder walls to sweat too many times between runs. Although lol, that LA 318 CID by Mother Mopar can lol probably run inside the Titanic and it be just fine!
    Hope there's a digital confection on May 1st, if not I'll watch a rerun. 🎂
    Thank EC!

    You are correct about those parts being compatible with the CR-V, element, integra, RSX, etc. I need to do the rear trailing arms on my 05 CR-V. I already did the brakes wheel, hub and bearing assemblies and much more. And if you haven’t already guessed, yes I did have to replace the rear knuckles and ABS sensors due to the bolts being seized inside the bushings as is often the case as you commented on earlier. That was very expensive.

    When I did catch-can testing I did not get any significant benefits for my B series. However, I do have a strange oil anomaly... When I drive from sea-level to 6 thousand feet (a hard drive, usually in summer, in 100 degree heat) My oil will be a quarter of a quart down at altitude, but when I return to sea-level, a day or two later, the oil magically returns to the previous level. Does any one know where the oil goes and how it finds its way back? I am dumbfounded because I let the Integra cool off over night and check it, but the reading in the mountains, after a long, hot, drive, is always a quarter quart low. I know the engineers at Honda are magic, but disappearing and reappearing oil???

    Absolutely no need to do that stuff to the B unless you're running a turbo. They simply don't have excessive blow-by unless your compression rings are knackered

    • @ericthecarguy
      @ericthecarguy  2 місяці тому +2

      I disagree. I shift this engine at 9000 RPM. Any engine at that RPM will create more crankcase pressure. In fact, I believe that this is the reason most B series engines burn oil, inadequate engine ventilation which allows more pressure to build up internally. I also believe this contributes to external oil leaks. So far the engine is running better than ever and I don't have any oil leaks to speak of. Thanks for the comment.

    • @mickl8212
      @mickl8212 2 місяці тому

      @@ericthecarguy I disagree with you. Many a track ITR here in the UK with no issues you speak of. Burning oil on these is normally gummed up oil control rings, incorrectly staggered oil control rings or oval bores.
      You don't need a catch can set up unless going turbo, these motors don't need it standard N/A.
      You've literally put the breather on the oil drains back from the head. Certainly not ideal.
      Also, 9000rpm? Factory ECU rev limit is 8600rpm.
