I've been to all of the regular islands and a few of the seasonal ones, and I've found gyroids on all of them. I actually went to the star fragment island rather recently. I got so many star fragments of different kinds I almost ran out of bag space to catch finned fish! Because yes, that island takes place during summer, so finned fish galore! You can also wish on shooting stars there too, so I ended up getting even more star fragments the next day lmao

Nice breakdown! (playing daily, having most of the nook mile long term goals filled out, section of musuem filled etc), i've gotten vine island 3 times, wheat and tomato island during my kappn visits! *forgot but also got a summer island! theres hope besties, keep playing!!*
That might be why I roll so well then! My first ever Kapp’n island was the moss and vines, I got some regular ones a few days in a row. But recently I’ve gotten potato and tomato island, summer island, cherry blossom island and maple leaf island (I got the game for Christmas last year so I haven’t unlocked mushroom island yet).
i got a snowy island a week or so ago. it actually helped with setting up for decorating for the holidays. i also went to an island with a bunch of pumpkins. i’ve yet to go to a star fragment island 🥺
I got the vine island as my second boat mystery island, and then I kept getting boring islands like dodo islands, and now I’m here to see how to get better ones. Thanks for this vid! Edit: I just logged on and when I went to Kapp’n to go to a mystery island, the island I got was the same exact island as the one I got Yesterday, down to the formation of the cliffs to the color of the pansies
I've got the vine one a couple times and scooped them all up along with the moss. Pretty cool. Also got some island with vegs I didn't have (carrots and sugar cane). Got the rainy one a couple times where you get a full gyroid and a fragment. Also the cherry blossom one but that didn't interest me that much. Really want the shooting star one.
For people who moved their character to a new island: I started playing on my brother's island when the game released but I moved my character to a new island when he bought a limited edition switch for the update. I started this new island in October and I still got a snowflake island recently, even though I have not played past 2/24. So if you need to move to a new island for circumstances like mine don't worry too much! You can still visit all the islands you would have previously unlocked.
this video is cool, it's nice to see the math behind it! i've gotten the cherry blossom and star fragment islands, and have had pretty good luck with getting the vine island(s) (which i've seen two variations of). i started playing at the end of march of this year, but i've also time-traveled a LOT. not super far back in time, just a month to get the bedhead hairstyle, and otherwise just a few days back and forth here and there. i don't have any DIYs or critters from winter yet.
I must be lucky. I’ve visited all the islands except the full gyroid island. One cool thing is you can see the transition as you go to the island if you get one of the seasonal islands. Like maple leaves, snowflakes, or cherry blossom leaves will start falling. Or for star island it will turn to night off you’re playing during the day.
Super interesting breakdown. I had literally no idea it was so complex what island you get assigned. That being said, what about money island? I'm guessing it is probably among the regular ones? Several trees have bell bags (3 bags with 1k each), but other than that is your standard fragment island.
Truly my biggest question also! I haven't read anything about it in the data mines so i have no idea. My hypothesis is that it might be a once-per-player occurance? Maybe?
omg i didn't know this was a thing! i stopped shaking trees last week after i realized there was no item but all ive gotten is fragment islands (and one vine/moss !!) since , i hope i didnt miss it
@@savbison599 they are the same as the money trees in your main island, they have three little money bags instead of fruits, so don't worry, if you didn't see a single tree with money bags, then you most likely didn't lose anything.
This is so interesting! And makes total sense. So, thinking our loud, I am bound to find anything but mushrooms and maple leaves ‘cause I restarted in January 🤔 I have found all the regular ones and a actually, thinking about it a summer one … it will be question of luck to find a fricking star island 🤣
I got Vine island last night. It was my second time and I was SO EXCITED. I also got a Summer Island (at the end of May), it had most of the summer palm tree bugs!!
This explains a lot. Never knew the seasonal islands are locked on how long you've played. I did reset my island shortly before the update was announced, this explains why I haven't been to a seasonal islands yet.
Thank you so much for this video. It honestly helped. My account is already a full year old by "normal date" not by "time travel date" but I decided to time travel to the month of April to possibly get the cherry blossom island but I've gotten so lucky. I got the full gyroid island and the bamboo island. So thank u so much for this video. Like I said, it really helped. 😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
this is so interesting. i’ve found star fragment island, cherry blossom, a summer island, bamboo island, the vine island, and all other regular islands except for the full-grown gyroid. however I’ve still not been to a winter, nor either of the fall items. I’ve started in late January, so I suppose this makes sense.
I imagine the reason you have to unlock the seasonal islands comes down to preserving the specialness of each season, and avoiding sending players to an island they wouldn't have any DIYs for. They don't want your first snow experience to be Kappn dropping you on a snowy island
HUGE Shout out to asteriation, the dataminer who uncovered all of this! Check out their stuff here: acnh.isomorphicbox.com/updates/2.0.0/#kappn **NOTE** A lot of questions about Money Tree islands: certain islands have a chance of spawning money trees instead of fruit trees, though I'm not sure what the percentage is! This is not considered a specific type of island though! Also! Fruit trees on these islands will ALWAYS be your native fruit :(
Enjoyed your video, EJ and it was quite insightful. I suppose I have been lucky because I have only traveled with Kapp'n 8 times and 5 out of the 8 islands were rare. I wasn't even aware of this fact until watching your vid. Thank you for the info!
Thanks for this video. I’ve gotten all of the basic islands, and the bamboo and snowflake island. I’ve played the game since launch so I hope I get a star fragment island soon.
Thank you for this video. I just shared it on several acnh fb groups because I've seen so many posts about these islands and about restarting islands. So thank you, I know it gave me some good information and I'm sure it's the same for at least some people in the aforementioned fb groups! Happy Gaming!
One time I got the vine island without even knowing it existed or trying to get it, but I single-handedly destroyed that ecosystem, then it was back to 1 gyroid island and if it was a good day, new crops
Thanks so much for talking about this, because I finally figured out what the hell happened to my island, and how I got a Maple leaf island, when I didn't start the game until December of last year. I didn't realize time travel had an effect on it, and had forgotten I technically time travelled when I first played. My game started me in the spring or summer season, even I'm in the Northern Hemisphere. I noticed then, that the date and time on the Switch were incorrect. So when I fixed it, I technically time travelled past certain seasons, including fall. That makes so much sense now 😅
I got an island in July/August recently, and was finally able to catch more scarab beetles to have Flick make a model for me. I didn't know they also appeared on palm trees. I got the star fragment island last night.
I got those seasonal islands through sheer luck, but not the luck you speak of in the video. I recently restarted my island but after two in-game days I realised that my switch date was a year out! So I went and corrected it from October 2021 to February 2022. Hence time travelling! I visited star fragment island yesterday for the first time and I had no idea it was actually a thing and I was utterly shocked!
🌟That was amazingly well presented and so very informative!! Thank you! Now I understand why my daughters character keeps getting normal islands. She’s only 4mo old in game. Time travel it is 😉
Thank you for this explanation...makes absolute sense. I've gotten a few seasonal islands on my account in the northern hemisphere but still will miss a few as I've been playing for less than a year....Christmas will be a year!😁 Great job!
This was super helpful information, thank you! I just wanted to let you know that my bf and I have gotten seasonal islands for seasons we haven't actually played. We will have had the game for a year at Christmas, but we didn't play for a long stretch of time and I still get sent to the summer shell islands and the cherry blossom islands without ever seening those things before. Idk if I misunderstood what you were saying or if we just happen to be super lucky? Idk! Also as a side, my bf got an island that had all bell rocks which I didn't think was a thing for Kapp'n tours! Hope you get more cool islands soon! Thanks again! ❤
he says at 5:05! basically if your account was made in january, and you didn’t play until january of next year, it still counts as seeing those seasons. your account existed during those seasons, so you will unlock the chance to see those islands.
I’ve been getting special islands like everyday, and only just got a boring island yesterday so…, besides the initial Brewster island of course! My very first island had a bunch of money trees! Also make sure to hit rocks all the time, there are often money rocks on these islands!!!
I’ve been to Cherry blossom island and the vine / glowing moss island. I’m hoping to get to the Star fragments island soon! My save file is literally from when the game first came out
Why am I just learning that there is an island with grown Gyroids?! Maybe I’ll get more seasonal islands next month. I started just before Christmas last year 🥲 Also, Katrina has been scamming me out of my bells because she isn’t helping my luck lol
I got pretty lucky, I've been sent to all the types of island at least one time ! All except... The one I really wanted to explore, the one with the star fragments...
I don’t play animal crossing regularly or have any of the major updates but these statistics videos relating to the game are always so interesting! Thx for the effortful content
Hi EJ thank you for a great video. Let me start out by saying I’ve landed the “mythical” vine island 4 times since the update was released. I honestly would rather get a sugar cane island. I understand it’s all RNG but I’ve had great success in the vine island department. I’ve landed almost all the new vegetables in island form. I’ve landed a money rock island once. No star piece island yet but I have a ton of star pieces so landing on one would be a cool novelty for me.
Thanks for the helpful breakdown! This is probably just a coincidence but I seem to have better luck with islands in the middle of the night. Any other time I’m most likely going to a gyroid fragment island, but around 3am seems to be a lucky time for me 😅
Pretty much the same here! I have been to a shooting stars, cherry blossom, potato, glowing moss, and a island FULL of money (twice)! All trees had money bags and the all the rocks were money rocks, it was crazy!
i've only been to moss/vine twice, raining, regular gyroid frag, and mushroom/acorn/pinecone. i want to go to shooting star island so bad! been playing since launch T^T
i was honestly planning on time travelling to those dates anyway but i hadn't found what they were yet. i restarted my island a month before the 2.0 update but i've been playing since march 2020 so imo, i've experienced these events fairly already.
I got an island where all the rocks were money rocks after getting a good fortune from Katrina. So either I was just really lucky or there’s a correlation
Kind of! Certain islands have a chance of spawning money trees instead of fruit and hardwood trees, though I'm not sure what the probability of this happening is! This is not considered a specific type of island by the game, though, so it can happen on almost any island excluding the Spring Bamboo, Cherry Blossom, Maple Leaf, and Mushroom islands.
I got the game last Christmas and didn’t reset, so I’ve seen all the seasons. So far, I’ve gotten a summer shell island, cherry blossom island, raining / full gyroid island, wheat island, potato island, and moss/vine island. I’m missing sugar cane (Leif has only been selling tomatoes, potatoes, and carrots) and I really hope I hit a star island, sugar island, or mushroom island soon! There’s only a few days left to get mush recipes, and I’ve only gotten the lamp so far! I’m saving up my mushrooms daily for when I get the other recipes, but it’s really good to know that I can potentially collect mushrooms and mush recipes on a kapp'n island!!
So glad I couldn't be bothered to restart my island, and now I can laugh at my friend who's been trying to go to a seasonal island for a while now but reset a few days before the update came out
I was watching your video and went to see where Kapp would take me. I got summer shells for the first time! Very cool. Love your video style and subscribed
I’m hunting for as many vines as I can get so I can have several of those giant vines on my island and to have those gorgeous ruined pillars everywhere. But you get around 8-10 vines per vine island and the giant vine is 25 vines. Even with trips to the happy home paradise island which seems to give me 2-3 a day, it’s going to be a painfully long time of me hunting for them 😅
Did this work to register your character as been playing for 365 days. Im messing around with TT now but the game isnt registering that. I TT to Dec 2023 but it still says Ive only been active for 22 days.

Great breakdown! I wanted to add something. There is a version of the bamboo island w no new bamboo. It's just regular bamboo when you hit them, and there are shoots in the ground, but I got not one of the spring bamboo. Not sure whether that's a variation of the season or what, but I thought I'd mention it.
I'm so glad for these new islands because when I travel using nook miles by the airport I've been getting target island for almost 2 years , Maybe my games faulty 😪 so this new update has made my game enjoyable again , Fantastic video aswel 🧡

Edit: I just logged on and when I went to Kapp’n to go to a mystery island, the island I got was the same exact island as the one I got Yesterday, down to the formation of the cliffs to the color of the pansies
Support group for people who keep getting the same islands I laughed too hard at that one haha
I have only had the broken gyroid and vegetable islands 😭 I have had my island for over a year but haven’t played a lot so makes sense
Hmmm even if you haven't played it *should* have unlocked, but might just be bad luck 😅
@@EJPlays maybe, I haven’t been time travelling so only visited a few times
@@Ddalgiichigo the update has been out since the third so you could of visited 15 times without time travelling
There should always be at least one gyroid fragment
Maybe?
I've also gotten bell bag island
omg i didn't know this was a thing! i stopped shaking trees last week after i realized there was no item but all ive gotten is fragment islands (and one vine/moss !!) since , i hope i didnt miss it
@@savbison599 they are the same as the money trees in your main island, they have three little money bags instead of fruits, so don't worry, if you didn't see a single tree with money bags, then you most likely didn't lose anything.
@@paurb4783 omg that’s great thank u !!
Very informative and bloat-free!
Good thing I've had the same island representative since launch and never reset, ahaha.
I have yet to get a star fragment island and my game file has gone from April til now 😭
I got Vine island last night. It was my second time and I was SO EXCITED. I also got a Summer Island (at the end of May), it had most of the summer palm tree bugs!!
Me who created my island in may 2020 and has never restarted: 😎
Yeah. Same! Since june 2020 😎🤜🤛😎
March 2020 🤪🔥
march 28 2020 !!!
Same but I think I started in april
Same 😎
Only got 1 winter island up until now though 🥲
This explains a lot. Never knew the seasonal islands are locked on how long you've played. I did reset my island shortly before the update was announced, this explains why I haven't been to a seasonal islands yet.
I quite like the unlocking system for the seasonal islands. Keeping people taking it slow.
"Theres a type of vegetable on this island like *tomatoes* "
But...but...aren't tomatoes fruit??..
I needed this video so much! Appreciate you having the patience to do the research so we don't have to 😂
I imagine the reason you have to unlock the seasonal islands comes down to preserving the specialness of each season, and avoiding sending players to an island they wouldn't have any DIYs for.
They don't want your first snow experience to be Kappn dropping you on a snowy island
This was so helpful! Thank you EJ! Also makes me sad I restarted my island a month before the update 🥴😂
Tell me about it! I'm looking at my restarted island now like ... :/
HUGE Shout out to asteriation, the dataminer who uncovered all of this! Check out their stuff here: acnh.isomorphicbox.com/updates/2.0.0/#kappn
**NOTE** A lot of questions about Money Tree islands: certain islands have a chance of spawning money trees instead of fruit trees, though I'm not sure what the percentage is! This is not considered a specific type of island though!
Also! Fruit trees on these islands will ALWAYS be your native fruit :(
Thank you for crediting aster! ☺
I don't know about Money Trees, but Kapp'n took me to a Money Rock island today.
Rawrr! This explains sooo much! It's always vine island or fall island since I had to restart my entire island (RIP former switch!).
Enjoyed your video, EJ and it was quite insightful. I suppose I have been lucky because I have only traveled with Kapp'n 8 times and 5 out of the 8 islands were rare. I wasn't even aware of this fact until watching your vid. Thank you for the info!
I got super lucky and went to the shooting star/star fragment Island. Truly is beautiful and the wishes are made. New fav UA-camr.
Funny enough today I had a rainy island and it made my day being able to catch three ceolcanth (Oh no! I can't spell it) in a row by accident.
Your channel is HIGHLY underrated my man! I seriously love your content!
Thank you so much for this video! Definitely explains why my one switch always gets the basic islands!!!
🌟That was amazingly well presented and so very informative!! Thank you! Now I understand why my daughters character keeps getting normal islands. She’s only 4mo old in game. Time travel it is 😉
Thank you for this explanation...makes absolute sense.
I've gotten a few seasonal islands on my account in the northern hemisphere but still will miss a few as I've been playing for less than a year....Christmas will be a year!😁
Great job!
glad youtube recommended this video because i was starting to think i wasnt getting any fun islands because i only got the game this may
This was super helpful information, thank you!
@@milk-sharks yeah I totally misheard that! Haha thank you! And thanks again for a great video EJ!
I’ve been getting special islands like everyday, and only just got a boring island yesterday so…, besides the initial Brewster island of course! My very first island had a bunch of money trees! Also make sure to hit rocks all the time, there are often money rocks on these islands!!!
Hmm - have had the Vine/Moss one, 2 Veg ones and one where there were LOADS of shooting stars - interesting! Will have to see what I get next ^*^
The shooting stars island is where you get the stars from hitting the rocks!
I got the full grown gyroid island. It has the broken gyroid and then one full grown one so it’s not that good.
I believe that she just brings bad luck to neutral, not bad to good- but I'm not entirely sure 😅
@@ollie_3948 Her bad luck reset is to make bad luck go to normal. So you do not get good luck, but are no longer effected by bad luck.
Theres a rainy island that gives you a full gyroid and a gyroid fragment as will
you don't have any luck at all until you talk to Katrina ouob
Thank you for the explanation, I just started playing this October and now I can stop being mad I haven’t seen any seasonal islands.
I got pretty lucky, I've been sent to all the types of island at least one time ! All except... The one I really wanted to explore, the one with the star fragments...
It’s the shooting stars island so hit those rocks!
@@michellest-pierre225 When you realize you've been there and haven't hit a single rock. Kill me now...🙈😂
I don’t play animal crossing regularly or have any of the major updates but these statistics videos relating to the game are always so interesting!
Same here!
Thanks for the helpful breakdown!
This is probably just a coincidence but I seem to have better luck with islands in the middle of the night. Any other time I’m most likely going to a gyroid fragment island, but around 3am seems to be a lucky time for me 😅
Gather and weep peasants. I have been to shooting star, cherry blossom, fall, and snow island 😤
Dammmmmn
Pretty much the same here! I have been to a shooting stars, cherry blossom, potato, glowing moss, and a island FULL of money (twice)! All trees had money bags and the all the rocks were money rocks, it was crazy!
i've only been to moss/vine twice, raining, regular gyroid frag, and mushroom/acorn/pinecone. i want to go to shooting star island so bad! been playing since launch T^T
So far I've got three seasonal islands, aside from the regular ones. I hope to get the summer/star ones soon! :3
I’m literally in awe of this video and I cannot even fathom how you figured all this out
Truly was all due to the dataminer! If you wanna show some support to them, they have a ko-fi page: ko-fi.com/asteriation
I'm so glad I didn't decide to restart my island 🙌🏼
i was honestly planning on time travelling to those dates anyway but i hadn't found what they were yet. i restarted my island a month before the 2.0 update but i've been playing since march 2020 so imo, i've experienced these events fairly already.
So glad I couldn't be bothered to restart my island, and now I can laugh at my friend who's been trying to go to a seasonal island for a while now but reset a few days before the update came out
I had no idea I'd been having such good luck with islands! I've gotten a lot of the rare ones so far.
I'm not kidding i have literally got 3 carrot islands, a vine and the original Brewster one. wtf. At least give me different vegetables...
i have not played the game because im bussy but man i LOVE this!!! cant wait to get the dlc and play the game full time again
Would be good to shout-out the dataminer that discovered all this, asteriation
Omg great point!! Completely forgot to do so lmao I'll update description and pinned comment!
@@EJPlays thanks man
I was watching your video and went to see where Kapp would take me.
Even with trips to the happy home paradise island which seems to give me 2-3 a day, it’s going to be a painfully long time of me hunting for them 😅
"Bad Luck: Exhibit A"-Gulliver 🤣 That's a whole mood.
I was playing around with time traveling, traveled 50 years in the future, so I can visit all of those islands :)
Did this work to register your character as been playing for 365 days. Im messing around with TT now but the game isnt registering that. I TT to Dec 2023 but it still says Ive only been active for 22 days.
I want one of the shooting stars islands. I've gotten it twice in my 2 years of playing but I want more!
thank u for reading the datamine documents & making a video in laymen's terms 😭😭 am still gonna read the docs but now i know why i wasn't getting any furniture from the trees on kappn islands 😂
Thank you for this video :) Didn't know it about needed to play a full year.
Aaaaand I restarted my island 2 weeks before V 2.0 came out XD And since I don't want to time travel, I need - as you say - being patient.
So I was. And: 4. mystery island I encountered was a VINE island
The way you enunciated tomato and potato made my night lol
After finding Brewster I went on a journey just once and I got on the full gyroid island, wasn't expecting it to be kind of rare
If I only knew how rare a seasonal island was then I would've stayed at the winter island I got and caught more snowflakes! WAH! But this was very informative, thank you!
i restarted my island back in august before we even knew about the update and im glad i did bc i can catch all sorts of finned fish in the middle of december
Thanks for the helpful explanation! I was wondering why I hadn't found any special islands yet. I started playing last September, so that's probably a huge factor 😅
this video was super informative, thank you for putting in the time to make it!
the star fragment island also has shooting stars that you wish on, and star fragments that wash up on shore
