- Must-know Animal Crossing New Horizons tips! A collection of info and tips that would have saved me a lot of time (and made me a lot of Bells) had I known them sooner. So many empty trees shaken and wasp stings in my first weeks with ACNH. This collection of Animal Crossing New Horizon's beginner tips will show you the essential daily to-do list, how to get 55k guaranteed, easy bells per day to start you off, how to camp gift balloons, how to guarantee find your two daily pieces of furniture from trees and more.
I am generally a World of Warcraft channel and that's not changing with this- I've just been playing a lot of ACNH and wanted to share some tips with anyone starting late! My videos and streams will continue to be largely WoW-centric.

she really just shook the tree with wasps in it and immediately caught them like a *god* while i manage to get stung *every time*
I get stung at least twice a day. That's why I buy medicine in bulk.

I feel that
Watch the replay a couple of times and then try it. It honestly works! It's also super easy to catch scorpions and tarantulas once you know the trick. Don't carry your net at night. When you see one, arm the net and immediately hit A - so you are in sneak up mode. Sneak up one step at a time - they will react, but just wait until they settle down and take the next step. Sneak up until there is an empty space between you and the little brat and when they are done swinging their front legs/claws, grab 'em with the net!

Not really a money earning tip, but a fun one all the same: when you run across a villager either singing or playing an instrument, if you set a radio down nearby and start playing music, they'll start singing/playing along to the song.
Or just put down a radio and the villagers will come to it and start singing. Don't put it near Pashmina's house tho. She'll never stop singing jesusss lol
also, if you pull out an instrument (ocarina, pan flute, finger piano) and press A to the same rhythm as the notes, then you'll automatically harmonize with them singing and it's super super cute!
I noticed this so quick so I put a radio in my plaza and I’m slowly adding them around my island so I can hear the same song everywhere.
Three of my villagers literally sing every second of the day in the plaza. I got annoyed and hit them with my nets one started crying while the other got humpty dumpty angry
I really want Murphy and Beau to sing, but only Marina and Frita sing. It's cute and all, but I want someone else to sing. 😭

Another tip; if you’re just starting your island and don’t have a museum yet, or even the option for one, dedicate a spot on your island to just stacking a bunch of bugs and fish. This can get you an early start to a museum and prevent from taking up a bunch of your inventory.

A really big tip I recommend is whenever you catch a fish or bug to see if it says “Yes!” Then you don’t have that creature. If it doesn’t say that then you do already have it :)

@@luciathefemininewoman All you have to do is buy a swinsuit from nooks cranny, put it on and go to the seashore, once you are at the shore then press “A” once you are in the water keep pressing “A” to swim and just follow the bubbles when you get close to the bubbles press “Y” and grab the item with “A” I hope I could help

I definitely count my flimsy tool and upgrade before it breaks.
Don't forget the big nook miles achievements based on the amount of tools you break/craft.

I did that for a few days, but ultimately found it so tedious I gave up on it. Still do the customization trick before going to other islands, though.
Don’t know if you know this Hazel, but if you push the piano bench up to the piano you can sit on it and swivel to play! That made me happier than it should have - so I wanted to share!
Jan I am constantly amazed how many items are interactive: washer, iron, musical instruments, stereo and record players, drinking fountain... I test everything. One of the coolest is being able to light up the fish tanks. Wait, maybe its the toilet. If you eat too many fruit and need to get rid of them, sit on the toilet and poop them out and they flush away. This game never ceases to amaze me!

Old animal crossing players are so used to having to place furniture like this that it became habit lol (me included until a few weeks ago)
I got automatic smart toilet from the balloon, it open & closes everytime you’re near. The coolest thing is, when you’re done (ur business) the red light turn on and flushes automatically! After that the lid closes again. Gah, this game is seriously.....

The tip about fruit tree spacing really helped, so here's a tip about money trees you may or may not know:
If Isabell says something about horoscope and having good luck in the daily announcements, you can plant 99,000 bells that day, and that specific tree will grow to drop 3 bags with 99,000 bells in each.

Me, accidentally and furiously shaking the tree before I get dunked on by wasps
You have to be in front of the tree when you shake it for her tip to work. You can also hold B and run away. Run into the museum or your house if you're fast enough. Super Mario pipes help you escape and if you're wearing a wet suit jump into the water or run to the beach (holding B to dash) then tap A to go in the water. The wasps disperse if you escape from them. And it's fun seeing the other island residents freaking out when you're getting chased by wasps.
Also, don't shoot down balloons when you're completely surrounded by flowers, it will dissapear
I also learned that if you pop a balloon over one of those black rocks on the beach, the rock will ABSORB the gift and it'll be gone.
I thought it would bounce off but NOPE.

If you shoot down over a house or a tree, it will disappear too. Make sure you're out in the open.

if you've eaten fruit, you can get rid of them by sitting on a toilet

Another tip for the wasps: ALWAYS take the nest, whether you were stung or not. You can make medicine with it just in case.
They also make a diy honey comb wall! You need like 10 of them for it.

you can also give medicine to the villagers when they're sick and they'll give you gifts in return!
Something I found out is instead of at midnight a new day starts, at 5AM a new day starts

when I first started I literally didn’t know you could shake trees for sticks, so I was stuck for about a day just trying to get more sticks to craft stuff 🤦♀️

i didnt know either, but luckily my boyfriend had already watched some letsplays (i hadn't cause i wanted to go in blind) so when i mentioned the lack of sticks he told me. animal crossing really just expects you to figure it out all by yourself lol
New player here. Something I learned (the hard way) is to organize your tools so your axe is next to your net. That way if you get a wasp nest mid-chop, you can switch to your net and catch them. The window is tight, but I pull it off more than I don't.
I always hold a net a shake my trees before I hit them with an axe, at least until I catch the five wasps.

@@catisreckless4647 I do both. I go up and shake with the net and just use dpad over for axe once I am clear its not a wasp
is there actually 2 furniture items in trees? i’ve shaken every single tree in my island and i’ve only gotten 1.
@@lvtori Yes, but you might need a minimum amount of trees on your island in order to get the second. At least I'm pretty sure I've gotten two before. Best to check the wiki for more/better info 😉
Tip: when trying to get a higher rating on your island, just plant a bunch of flowers. If you already have a lot of flowers, just on a hard-to-see area like a cliff, relocate all of them to a less decorated spot. That helped :)
Unless you are planning on cutting down trees, always craft a flimsy axe! Every time you hit a rock, always do it with a flimsy axe. It doesn't matter which axe, but once you break 100 axes, you will learn the DIY for the golden axe. So to insure that you'll get that as soon as possible, always use your flimsy axe when you can!

a stone axe doesn't cut down trees like the flimsy axe, but has a lot more durability then said axe
@@leona067 the point is to break the flimsy axe quickly so you get the Golden Axe DIY
i always carry flimsy axe along with axe. because if i use axe i cannot hit a tree 3 times and gets 3 woods.
You don't have to clearcut and replant to find out what your trees are; eat a fruit, dig up a tree with the shovel, you can see it in your bag and it will tell you what type it is.
That works if you always have a lot of fruit in your inventory and you don't want to waste all the fruit in your village for your first floor.

Get your daily scallop for Pascal. He usually gives you a pearl or something cool. Pearls are craftable and sell for a lot

Money tree location tip: once you've planted your bag of bells you can immediately dig up the sapling and bury it on a plot where you'll know to look for it and it'll grow just fine. I transplant all of mine to the same location so that I don't have to run all over my island to figure out where I planned my money tree the days ago.

What I like to do is take the 1,000 bells, then just take out 100 bells and put it in the hole. Dig + Money - Some Money = *More Money*
FUN FACT: It's possible to get two DIY recipes from your villagers everyday. One villager can be found crafting in the morning (anytime before 12) and a different villager will be crafting in the afternoon. Different villagers will give different types of DIY's so it's good to change who's living on your island every now and then to get a bigger variety of recipes.
Correction; you can get 3 DIY per day from your villagers. The first one starts crafting when you start the game that day. The second will be 3 or 4 hours after that, and the third and last will be another 3 to 4 hours. Granted, you'll only notice this if you have time to spare to play acnh for 8 hours a day.
@Linou Gertz Simply walk into their homes if you see there's smoke coming from the chimney of the house. High chance they are at home to craft. If they are, you'll see them being busy. Talk to them and they'll hand you the card with the recipe.
Side tip: if in your morning announcement Isabelle’s horoscope says she will have good luck, you can bury 99k bells in the money tree hole for triple the investment!
EDIT: Still got loads of people messaging in response to this so I just wanted to say I don’t think this works anymore, pls don’t try if you’re unsure, it did work last year but clearly does not do it every time now, sorry! :)
@Bryony Bruns Year 07 You need to plant the bells on the same day Isabelle says she has good luck in her horoscope up to 99k, it should work 100 percent of the time? Otherwise, I'm not sure what you could have done wrong :/

**Angrily pointing cane at you** You damn kids have it too easy! Why, back in MY day, you couldn't shake trees with tools attached! You had to run TWENTY.FIVE. feet ahead and equip your net and THEN, if you were lucky, turn around fast enough to catch the wasps. Luckily we had multiple NPC buildings in fixed locations that we could run into if we couldn't do it in time, AND WE WERE GRATEFUL FOR IT TOO!

When leif shows up sell him your islands weeds or any weeds you collect for double what tommy and timmy give you... Leif will give you 20 per clump and you can hold 99 clumps per slot in your inventory and I believe each like of inventory is 10 slots so 99 times 10 times 4 or what ever nav number of lines are times 20 is a crap ton of bells for basically garbage

Most people end up just making the leaf umbrella (using 10 weeds) to double the value of the weeds anyways and this also helps with the daily nook mile challenge of making diy items
@@courierz9451 However you get nook miles for selling weeds and anyway, selling just weeds is much less tedious than crafting them into umbrellas first.

I've been playing animal crossing for almost 15 years now and i JUST learned that the Able sisters are hedgehogs and not porcupines

@@sarahjj9631 There is actually a chance it will come back with 297k. It has happened to me before. I believe it is a 30% chance but I might be wrong. Usually it defaults to 30k.

@@JackieRose Yeah there’s a 70% chance that it will come back 30k rather than 3x the amount you put in. It’s not recommended to plant more than 10k.

Tips:
- shake trees to catch and sell wasps
- two DIY recipe in bottle at beach everyday (one in the morning, one in the afternoon)
- plant a money tree
- shovel rocks to get money and ore (after setting a fence down)
- crafted items sell for 2x price of their materials (except for fruit items)
- sell bugs to Flick and fish to CJ
- visit villagers at home (curtains open) to maybe get a DIY recipe if they’re crafting
- talk to Label hedgehog everyday for extra customization patterns
- can dive for sea creatures using a wetsuit

Marisa Giardino You have to buy a certain amount of clothes from Mabel when she visits your island. Once you buy enough stuff, she'll open a shop with her sister Sable. Hope this helps :)

I love having a DIY bench in different areas around the island. Mostly for broken tools. I have the one that's a tree stump by the campsite and another one near a river/fishing area for broken fishing poles.
I always have one in my inventory that I can place down when I need to craft
I just carry one with me
you can get 2 DIY bottles a day if you pick the first one up early enough. The next one will spawn 12 hours after the first. Also you can get 2 DIY recipes a day from villagers, one in the morning and one in the evening.
Actually its 3 a day, one morning, one midday, one evening :)
Once I had 3 message bottles a day
This does not work for everyone and is not guaranteed. I have 3 islands and clean them at 5am-6am and once since the game has released have I ever got more than one bottle. Sorry this misinformation has confused a lot of people because it is not guaranteed.
@@Zahvage It depends! They start crafting when you log in and they craft for 3 full hours. So depending on how long you are online you might be able to get more
@@Zahvage Are you talking about villagers crafting? I've never heard of someone finding 3 bottles.
If you press b while conversing with someone, they will talk faster.
Pressing L also works, and I think it’s better cause sometimes while pressing B to skip dialogues you can end the conversation by accident

I was watching Hunger Games while playing this, so I naturally took to calling the ballons "sponsors" and now I can't stop... This has been going on for a month now

I've noticed a couple exceptions to the rule of fruit DIYs selling for less:
- Coconut Juice: sells for 500, crafted from 1 coconut (which usually sells for 250)
- Any DIYs using your native fruit: you get roughly double the value, since your native fruit only sells for 100 each
Alternatively, you can save your native fruit and sell it while visiting someone else's island who has a different native fruit and get 250 each.
I think Hazel was discouraging selling fruit items because your native fruit sells for much more on another island (where it's not native, of course). Your end up wasting that profit of you craft with them.
However, if you don't visit other islands, go ahead and craft with native fruit for that 2x bonus.
lilagtook actually you can get 500 per native fruit if you sell them on someone else’s island.

@@lilagtook this is true but i have found it's kind of a waste of time considering you can just pick other fruit from trees that drop 3 instead of 2 and sell it for 500 without needing empty pockets or to pound A at the work bench forever.
OMG the wasp trick works so well. Go to the tree from the front with your net equipped, shake it, and the moment your character reacts, mash the ever living heck out of the A button and you’re all set.
Side tip: If you don't know if you or someone else have donated a certain critter to the museum you can check the critterpedia and if you see an owl badge when you hover over the critter/fish it means it has been donated. It also says "donated" with the owl badge if you click on the critter/fish as well :D
I know that one is decently obvious but my sister (who has played WAY longer than I have) didn't know that tip so I just wanted to share it.
Another tip: DON'T KEEP FLOWERS OR WEEDS IN FRONT OF A TREE- I learned that the hard way, Zell watched me get stung by those wasps and just continued with his day xd

As soon as you plant a money tree, you can dig it up with the shovel (no fruit required), so you can keep your money trees in a money orchard to keep track of them
Ive been doing that myself, it requires 4 spots, and also allows you not to got overgrown with trees
Every friend that visits loathes my money tree hill, but it's how I avoid impulse buying so I can save up, cos a bank ain't stopping me.
Edit: Money tree groves are excellent island banks, if you only care about progressing everyone and not about owing money. Or it's just you and a ton of alts...
How is that helpful tho if it’s not fully grown? I’m confused lol
I just discovered this entirely by accident yesterday. I used the shovel again right after planting and freaked out, and then looked in my inventory and saw that it was a nursery bell tree. This is a gamechanger for me in terms of organizing my island. NO MORE RANDOM TREES! (And no more running around all over the place trying to find the bell tree I planted last week!)
@@katherinepatrick1582 You can move it to a more convenient spot - like a small, dedicated bell tree grove - instead of it staying in some random spot for several days (and then you have to spend time running around trying to find previous random spots).
it took me ages to figure it out but once there is a hole you've either dug or is there from removing a tree stump, instead of using the shovel to fill it back in, press y to kick the dirt in

Hazel: planting more than 7 hardwood trees makes finding the money more difficult.

I like having a bunch of trees, and I don't shake trees daily, so I'm not really bothered by it. I do plant the money tree, and usually try to get the money rock. I moved them all to one area so I don't have to run around the island looking for rocks.
Me: has mostly non-native fruit trees, so every tree is a money tree
When are you able to start cutting down trees? I only started playing a few weeks ago, and am frustrated with the placements of some of them.
Hailey Hunter you can only cut down trees with an iron ax, so whenever you get that DIY you’re good to go

@@scrumbole that's not 100% accurate. It's more vice versa in a way because iirc furniture and clothes can appear in any color, diy is always seasonal and can be in any color, but gold only shows up in yellow (but yellow can have other things)

I have no idea whether the update was rolled out after this video, but you should also try to go diving for your First Scallop every day. When finding your first Scallop of the day (providing it's not a full inventory and you swap an item for it), Pascal will approach you and ask you to trade the Scallop.
If you agree he will either give you a Mermaid Item, a Mermaid DIY Recipe, or a Pearl. Pearls also sell for 10000 each.

You can actually get 2 bottles on your beach , one spawns at 6am , Get that one and another one will spawn at 6pm, also the crafter in your village changes 2-3 times a day. So you can get more than one DIY from crafters a day as well.
for people that are always getting stung and haven't mastered the net technique, like me: have some party poppers in your hand while shaking trees, when the wasps fly out, you pop one and they dissipate :) i always have a stock of poppers on my stuff just for that.
If you want to spare your mashing thumb while hunting for wasps, just hold A from the shake until your character assumes the netting stance, then release for an easy catch
I dive for sea creatures with a wetsuit everyday and they sell for quite a lot at Nook Cranny

I've grown bell trees using 90,000 bells that give back three bags of 90,000 bells several times. I've also done 30,000 with success. Not sure if this was just an update, but thought it was worth mentioning.
This comment was literally a year ago so you may already know this... but, I recently found out there are such a thing as "fertile days" and if it grows on that day, then you have the chance of tripling any amount you bury. But, normal days will end up at just 30,000 ... I am not sure how to tell what days are fertile though.
Actually when you bury more than 10k for money trees you have a chance of 30% to get the amount buried times three instead of 10k times three (30k)
In the long run it's more profitable to always bury 10k, but if you are lucky and get proccs more often you are way better with burying 99k
I personally buried always 99k at the start of the game (when I had them available) and it was pretty good for the start - and you are way more happy about it when there are 3 bags of 99k :D
There is actually a pattern to it! There's some videos about the process. But once you figure out the pattern via some experimenting, you can determine your pattern for the week(and year) and get a max of 297k bells from your fertile money trees, and that can happens multiple times a week. The pattern is a 7 day pattern that doesn't necessarily fall evenly on the Sunday to Saturday calendar.

while the overall ratio is 70:30 30k: 3x what you buried if your a little but lucky and get about 66:74 than its more profitable
I burried 99k a few days ago and just got 300k it was amazing
I have two hacks;
1. When looking for villagers in your island, if you can’t find one and think it’s in the museum, if blathers is awake that means that there is a villager and if he is asleep there is none in the museum. This only works during the day.
2. I’m sure you know that mashing the b button makes the crafting faster, but all you have to do is double tap the b button, it will have the same effect and you can give your fingers a break.

Correction (I assume others have posted this already but): You can plant more than 10k for a money tree, all the way to 99k and get 3x 99k bags back. The problem is that beyond 10k you are not guaranteed to get the same amount back in each of the 3 bags that grow. I believe the chance is around 20-30% of getting bags with the original amount, and the rest clamps to 10k. So if you plant 99k, you _may_ get 3x 99k back, or (more likely) you'll get 3x 10k back, so it's a net loss. Planting 99k is a gamble. You can get lucky and make tons of money, but on average you'll earn more by planting 10k.
The way I watched someone do it was plant 11k every day and find out what day you get 11 back or only 10. So once you have your pattern you know what day to plant 99
ejee I tried it but the pattern didn't repeat the same every week. Possibly it was a two or three week period pattern but I did not go that far. By the time this hack came out I had more bells than I would ever need.
Best way that I've found is to plant 30,000 bells. At the very worst you will just get your money back, and at best you can get 90,000 bells, making a profit of 60,000. No risk, pretty solid reward.
This does not work for me.. I've tried planting different amounts, but no matter what each bag will only have $1,000. I've actually been taking the original $1k, saving it, then planting $100 and it still comes out $3,000 total...

100-1,000 bells: the bags will always be 1,000 bells each.
2,000-9,000 bells: 70% Chance it’s 1,000 each, and a 30% chance that you will get 3 bags of the amount you planted.
10,000-99,000 bells: 70% chance it’s 10,000 in each, and a 30% chance that it’s 3 bags of the amounts you planted.
So burying 100 bells will always net you 3,000 bells (2,900 profit)
Burying 10,000 should always get you 30,000 (20,000 profit)
Burying 30,000 you will not make anything or lose anything 70% of the time, but 30% you will get 90,000 bells (60,000 profit)
And planting 99,000 bells means you will only get 30,000 bells most of the time (69,000 loss), but 30% of the time you will make a profit of 198,000 bells.
Instead of holes or fencing, I plant two shrubs, if that matches anyone else's aesthetic!
Ah I never thought of that, thanks! I was busy looking for a reference for the fencing method as I wasn't quite sure how to place them nicely. I can only find pictures of the hole method when I look it up on the Internet 😔 but shrubs would look a lot nicer for sure!

I use just one “log stakes” behind each of my rocks and if you line up properly it works perfectly! You can customise them too to go with your theme! Hope this helps 😁
Yes! And unlike fences or other items, you can't accidentally pick up a shrub while gathering the items that come out of the rocks. My original rock garden had a fence, and I felt like I was repairing it almost daily.

Also here is a tip if you have alot of Nook Miles and don't want to buy anything with them; buy the Nook Miles Tickets and sell them to Timmy. He will buy them from you for 10,000 Bells. I currently have a loan for 198,000 bells and I'm trying to make some money so I can pay it off all at once.
Nook miles ticket=2000 nook miles
Bells ticket= 500 nook miles
Nmt=10k bells
Bt=3k bells
It wouldn't make sense to buy nook miles tickets JUST to sell for money, specially when what you find on the island is potentially worth more, like 88k money rock island
Also fun fact: you can get 2 DIY recipes every day from the beach, one in the AM and the other in the PM. Also find a DIY bottle when going on the island tours, they have a chance of spawning there.

A tip for fall: If you're shaking trees, and you've already collected all your fruit from your fruit trees, look for the trees that have mushrooms under them, they're normal trees.

If u buy a wet suit and go into the ocean with an empty inventory (I keep all my tools but nothing else) and catch stuff till it’s full you can get around 30,000 bells at a time depending on what u catch

you can also tell if a villager is home when they’re smoke coming out of the chimney. typically like you said, the curtains will be open but the lights will also be on in the door too

Pro tip that I discovered and wanted to share:
if you have many non-fruit trees scattered in the same area and you don't remember what trees you have shaken, shake it several times until one stick falls and use the stick as a 'marker' of a shaken tree.
Also, one day I leave the sticks under the trees, and the next day I pick up stick by stick when I shake a tree. If it doesn't have a stick, it means that I have shaken it.

@@cl9563 when we first started all 4 family members where playing in one switch. You can all play at once, but in that case one person is the "leader" and if they run off screen they'll just poof back to you. Also, playing like this anything the non lead characters pick up will be transported back to the recycling bin, which can be useful, but mostly isn't. Alternatively you just take turns and each person logs into the island under their character. The island is a constant per console but the characters are managed by their profiles.
I find that the residents get lonely, and I give them various insects and fish as pets and they put them in their houses.

this actually helped me a lot. i got a switch on christmas and have been playing every day since. i’m stuck on what to do and i’m only at a 2 star rating bc i don’t have enough flowers and every time i use a nook miles ticket i go to the same 3 islands. i’m also stuck on what to do with the items i do have. i have no idea how to use them and make my island cute without know what i could have. i’m at the point where i just wish i had all the different things so i could make my island pretty 😂
Pro tip, first focus on getting 3 stars rather then making your island look cute. To hit.5 stars, a lot of peoples islands look crowded and ugly but you unlock that good golden watering can and potential for lily of the valleys. If you don't care about the lillys then you can say f*ck it and finally clean up your island and terraform it and have better room and capability to make it look nice (you unlocl terraform at 3 stars anyways which is what helps majority with making it look better)
