      I've listened to the entire thing and I have no idea what the story is, but I know what the narrative *feeling* is and it's incredible. Just exploring all the facets of love and how it sometimes looks and feels like hate and vice versa. Absolutely Epic.

    The singer/songwriter/polymath Casey Crescenzo does all the vocals you hear on the song. He also plays guitar/keys and just about every instrument under the sun.
    They play just about every genre minus metal and rap. They often switch genres mid song like you heard here.
    Would love to see more reactions to them here! I search every week or so to see if anyone else is checking them out.
    The Acts album series is one big story with multiple characters (certain melodies, moods, genres represent these characters and are often reprised throughout the albums).
    A few other suggestions for songs, "Gloria", "Is there Anybody Here?", "Mr. Usher on His Way to Town"

    • @axelthesot

      @Michael Nalley Their cover of Rapid Calm is in no way a metal song though. The original was definitely Prog Metal, but TDHs cover was just Prog

    This song definitely isn't just a one-off in terms of tone and style, the whole Acts series of albums is very theatrical - albeit in different ways. It'd be awesome if you could react to their song A Night on the Town, which is from Act IV (the album after the one In Cauda Venenum's from). The Dear Hunter is one of the best bands no one knows about, and I try to spread word of them whenever I get the chance lol.

    You should definitely listen to A Night on the Town, from Act IV. On that album, they really dropped the aggression that was present on their first three releases, in favor of more carefully constructed symphonic elements and song structures. I prefer Acts IV and V over Acts I, II, and III because of this, personally

  • @Cissablack708

  • @sparkkitsune

    Its been a year since this video came out and I HOPE you've taken the time to listen through all 5 acts and follow along the story, TDH is honestly one of the most compelling, underrated, beautiful and moving masterpieces I've ever had the honour of stumbling upon, the motifs that run throughout drive the story with so much power and strength that I've never felt before and the intensity of the vocals combined with Casey's delivery of some of the lines just paints the horrific painting that is the story of The Dear Hunter
    I know, its a nearly 6 hour long commitment and it requires a good focus to keep track of the story, I personally suggest opening up the analysis of each song on a lyric page or one of the many discussions on reddit to anyone who hasn't given it a listen through, but trust me, it's worth every second

    • @drew21t
      @drew21t 3 роки тому +1

      This was beautiful to read because it very clearly reflects my own experience with Casey's collection. Also don't write off the Color Spectrum, that one is a microcosm of what the Acts deliver, it took me a while to fully appreciate it. Red and Purple still my favorites.

    • @sparkkitsune
      @sparkkitsune 3 роки тому +1

      @@drew21t oh certainly, I adore many of the pieces from the color spectrum, the different genres and feels of each colour truly being a wonderful experience! and the color spectrum as a whole really boosted Casey's skills and solidified his sound which just makes me love it even more!
      Casey's work is honestly one of the most inspiring things I've ever found and Im glad that all I've shown his music since I first listened through the Acts has fell in love with the story and the songs the exact same way I did

    Gotta back up the requests for you to react to some of their later stuff.
    Would be very interested to hear your reaction, as a composer, to one of these:
    1) The first two tracks from Act IV - back-to-back - Rebirth & The Old Haunt (it's gonna be hard not to go into track 3, though!!)
    2) A Night on The Town (which on the album blends perfectly into the next track, Is There Anybody Here)
    3) Gloria
    I know some fans absolutely love Acts I-III, and I totally respect that, but I personally find Acts IV and V to be far more representative of The Dear Hunter's abilities - if not a slightly higher production budget lol.
    Thanks for this video!

Also it's super cool seeing people just now get into TDH and I suggest in your free time listening to each of their albums from beginning to end, the transitions from one song to another really clarify each album and tell the full story. Plus they don't have a bad song imo (not biased 😋) but start with act 1 and work your way up.
    And yes it does go into a new song. “Ohhhh you were born with the sun and ohhh you will die with the moon!“ it's honestly strange to me not hearing that right after lol. Love the video and reaction!

      @@mr.incrediblysupermoistdud6169 I dont unfortunately. While I do enjoy all the acts. And a good amount of The color spectrum. The first 3 acts have something to them. A certain "edge" or palpable need to be created. Maybe it was the years he spent playing other music, longing to do something else. Idk just something about those first 3 acts particularly. Maybe it was just where I was in life when I heard them. But they resonate with me in a way not many albums do. Kind of like Native Construct. Absolutely love "Come Hell or High Water" and "Mute" but the rest of their album is a lot of hit and miss for me.
