If you ever do visit Trinidad and Tobago it is best to go around Carnival Season/time, you would get to know a lot more of the culture and the people there especially the food and music. A lot of tourists travel there at that time.

Love this video To people who ask if Chardon Beni shadon Beni or shadow beni( known also as bhandhania or culantro) now come into existence , the answer is NO, it been there for decades, growing wild in the back of people yard, For people living outside Trinidad, shadon Beni can be brought at any international supermarket under the name CULANTRO not cilantro. It makes great blended green seasoning along with other green herbs and it also makes fish dish taste great

Around 0:34 he says "saltfish season[s]... the Indian inflected dishes...". The narrator makes it sound like saltfish (salted codfish) are a food from India. Codfish live in the North Atlantic (NE USA, Newfoundland, Scandinavia, etc.) and salted cod was exported to the Caribbean as major source of protein there before emancipation and before immigrants came from India. That's why you have dishes like ackee and saltfish in Jamaica, coucou and saltfish in Barbados, and a bunch of other saltfish dishes in other Caribbean countries.

When COVID is over and I visit, I plan to venture out to the markets in central and southern Trinidad for a different experience from the typical supermarkets. I would also like to bring back some condiments, a good iron pot and some mamey sepote if they are in season. Nothing is better than Trinidad's fruits which are so much better than apples, pears, grapes, etc.

There is a shop on Broadway in POS where you'll find all different kinds of spices. Chinese shop on Charlotte St good too!

@@winstonseecharan6321 Trinidad is far from being a developed nation! Apart from some new highways, the infrastructure is deplorable! Many local roads are filled with potholes and road repairs are very rough. The water system is unreliable. Most sidewalks need repair. Corruption and mismanagement in the government is rampant!
