Here's my long term review of the Resolve Speed Editor a year later. It's a powerful tool that’s improved my workflow, but it’s not perfect - here’s why.

Yeah, it's great! Like I said, I definitely don't use it as much as other people but even then, I still really appreciate having it any time I need to use it.

Yo George, I made 6 strategic thumbnails + titles for this video, because I saw that it's not performing as it should. Where can I send them to you if you don’t mind?

I loved my Speed Editor. But it just stopped working a few months ago. It connects to Bluetooth on windows 11, but when I open Resolve Studio, it no longer connects.
I've used it connected via USB as well, same issue, no longer connects to resolve (despite being recognized in windows)
I've tried two different computers, same issue.
I Bought a new one, HOPING that it was just broken. No dice. Neither work with windows anymore.
sucks because, I used to recommend it to everyone.

Huh, that's really weird honestly. Have you reached out to Blackmagic with this? I've never had any issues with the connectivity on it. A few weeks back I built an entirely new PC and connected the Speed Editor to it once with a cable to have Resolve recognize it, then I disconnected the cable, opened my bluetooth settings and connected it through there. It's been working ever since. I think it's important to mention that when the cable is connected the Bluetooth connection is turned off by default on the panel itself. So you would just connect it with a cable the first time to power it on, then disconnect the cable and go through Bluetooth. Then you should be able to restart Resolve and have it start working. But if nothing is working I really think Blackmagic need to hear about it and help you out either with some troubleshooting or by just sending out a new one..

i believe this was caused by the 'Logitech LampArray Service". Try disabling that service. I did that when my Speed Editor stopped working and it worked.

For me, the speed editor has been a mix of great, and a bit of a disappointment. I already used the cut page, it's how I've learnt to use every editing software I'm trained on, it already felt natural to me. So when I was told, "this speeds up my workflow", over, and over again... I was a bit disappointed that it really didn't for me. Like you said, it's more useful when I've got lots of footage to work through, and personally, since I do, and a lot of it is multi-cam, I really find it useful for that. Surprisingly my biggest issue with it is the thing most people love, the jog wheel. Don't get me wrong, it's great as a more natural way of navigating... But, I don't like that it's fully smooth. I don't want much tactility, but I'd prefer some, just because it's too easy to knock, or nudge; this has made it's shuttle function, completely useless for me. Other than that, I've honestly been loving it. Like you, it's certainly not an "every project" device, but it's been very useful on the projects I've used it on. If I had to have one thing to request as an improvement, it would actually be cross-compatability. I don't just use DaVinci, I also use AVID quite a bit, and since Black Magic has created hardware for avid in the past, I was really hoping I could use it in AVID just to get some more synergy between the software I use. I think being able to re-bind keys is great for the wider consumers, but they're personally in a decent place for me. I think if I was designing it as my own product, I'd swap the positions of the multi-cam section and the jog wheel, so the jog wheel is in the center of the panel, but that's just preference. So the big question, is it worth what I paid? Yes. It may not be something I keep forever, I'm just as fast on a keyboard and mouse, and while I love the jog wheel mostly, the function isn't everything I wanted, and I could live without it. I think the main thing I'm really keeping it around for is my multi-cam work, but if I find a better solution, I'll probably switch. So why if I'm saying this am I also saying it's a good buy for me? Well it's the resale value... If I end up finding it a negligent piece of tech, I can sell it afterwards, and still make my money back if I keep it in good condition, which considering how well it's built, I don't think is going to be an issue for me.

It's great that it's been working well for you. Like I said in the video, I knew people out there have a use for the multicam keys as they are and this comment is a good example of that. As far as the jog wheel, I do agree it can be a bit too easy to turn at times causing for unintentional moves. Would probably be a bit better with a little more resistance but I guess this is what we get. I think the cross compatibility thing is tricky because I'm not sure how easy it would be to make it work with both Resolve and AVID but not other pieces of software like Premiere because at that point, people might pick it up for that and Blackmagic would obviously like more users on their own software. I also agree about the resale point you made. If you look after it, when you decide it doesn't do much for you anymore it would probably serve someone else well and give you back a good bit of the money spent.
