Darren explains what he’s doing and thinking without talking down to his audience. His friendly, conversational delivery makes the video a pleasure to watch. Thanks, Darren.
Why people like to brag that they have an attention span of a 2 year old is beyond me. There's also this button at the top of your browser to go back, or, it takes less time to type in another URL (or UA-cam search) than it does to leave an idiotic comment. But, to each his own.
Hey EYC, how long will it take you to hit the unsubscribe button and head on down the road where you can watch HIOW TO BECOME AN IDIOT, and then right after that you can also watch, HOW TO STAY AN IDIOT. Are you happy now?.
My fix for my previously make-up saturated steering weel was as follows: 2x Mr. clean magic sponges 3x large microfiber cloths (spill protection) 2x small microfiber cloth (drying) 1 1/2 quarts of hot, but not scolding water in a bottle, and a glass bowl, cupped in your lap... Procedure: cover wheel box, dash and gauge cluster, and your lap, with microfiber towels, place bowl in your lap, fill up with water, and wipe the wheel with the soaked sponge gently until dirt releases. Use first sponge for rough clean with lots of water, then wipe dry with microfiber. continue and reduce water usage as dirt releases. Squeeze out dirt from magic sponge, in the bowl. then repeat. I made 3 passes and changed water between each pass. The water will go from brown to clear with enough passes. And when the wheel is dry...it will feel like new.
I like your videos but you do over explain and talk to much. Yes explain but just do the practical stuff which is important and cut the time of the videos. I feel like saying hurry up while watching. 😜
Karl again. I wrote my question too soon. You answered my quarry. Case by case for older leathers. Thank you for the effort to make our lives easier and better.
You want to get that steering wheel really clean and conditioned, use the Magic Eraser thoroughly. Then after using the Magic Eraser apply 303 Protectant. It will condition your steering wheel and it won't be slippery.
Wow I didn't notice the video was 23 minutes when I clicked on it. Thanks for telling me. It may be ridiculous but for someone who's just starting out like me likes to get insight and knowledge from different sources to get tips and find good, budget friendly, effective products. Great video. Subbed.
man you have othere detailers explaining how to cleaning steering wheel so go there and watch their 3 min videos. This guy here want to explain everythng from A to Z and i am here for that. I wanna learn all small details in order for me to be succesful in this bussines, and i found this chanel to be exactly like that. But believe me you have other videos for the same subject not long at all
I realized my steering wheel was very dirty. I just used hot water and added a little dish washing liquid and a old washcloth. Wow, it cleaned up quickly and the water was almost black from the dirt on my steering wheel. I think I need to get a kit for re-dying and clear coating my steering wheel.
I already have water at my house that I already have and it's ready for me and that means I don't have to have the water shipped to me because I already have it at my house already ?
Hmm after some thought I went a head and buy leather brush, you are right when I did it with cleaner where if I don't wife dry well the cleaner becomes sticky, for that part water makes more sense like you said water is friendly.
I have a question: If one does a thorough cleaning on leather steering wheels, would it be ok to add some type of clear coat or top coat to the leather for added protection?
Good info but most of us are older than 6 years old and have common sense. I am eager to learn more from experience I'm not looking to repeat 1st grade.
I am with this guy, he doesn't over explain, he is a proper 90s salesman like me, I love your explanation, hey without solid key points how do you convince people, I disagree with this impatience viewers.
This would have been a great 5 minute video. Protect the areas behind and under the wheel, then: 1) Clean the wheel with just water and a rag. 2) Clean again with a general purpose cleaner on a scotch dish cleaning sponge. Use a toothbrush to get in the crevices, or creVASes as he pronounces it. 3) wipe dry with a rag again. 4) Rub Maguires "Rich Leather spray" cleaner on with a rag and work it in.
5:56 surely after 18 years of use, the 'clear coat' on the leather steering wheel would have worn away? 7:14 what happened to your usual Meguires APC ?
That IS a “nasty word”, but it was well said lol. Thanks for explaining the thought process as well as the physical. That is the most important part! 🥸
Wish I had watched this first 🤦♀️. Bought a used explorer, took a toothbrush and soapy water to the steering wheel. It’s now tacky and I think I feel the foam wheel under the leather. Guess I’ll be picking out a cover this weekend.
I watched your video on how to clean a steering wheel on a Mercedes and I have one question as it relates to something very similar. My steering wheel has some controls on the wheel and are extremely sticky but it’s not from my hands. My car sat for a while without being driven in my garage & it looks like there was some sort of glue that was placed purposely when designing the wheel because it looks like it’s peeling off as of it were some sort of cellophane on top. The more I try to peel it off the more sticky it became and now it’s sticky on the other side of the wheel in the same area It’s not the steering wheel itself but it’s the little icons that are on the wheel to increase or decrease volume and some other hands-free type of controls that are very sticky. I spoke with the dealer and they were clueless on what I could do so I thought I would reach out and see if you have any suggestions. Thank you very much Hope this isn’t to confusing🤪
I don't mind the explanation I do however mind a slidey steering wheel. Why would I want to attempt to turn my steering wheel and have my hands sliding all over the place? That don't make any sense.
Dear mr.Darren again a fantastic video thank you for that. Sometimes on somold cars i cannot tell the different when i am.pulling out dirt or paint from.old.leather like this in the video or in old.vinul.plastiks e.t.c.........do you think only the experience can tell me that??? Greatings from Athens Greece
Gia sou Marie. When you are working on older cars you have to be a little more careful with the interior vinyl and leather surfaces. Always start with the least aggressive method first. That could be a mild all-purpose cleaner (if you use a concentrate APC try high dilutions first, 1:10 or even 1:20 in water), with a soft brush, and a microfiber towel (the trick here is to use a light color towel and inspect the color of the dirt that you are pulling off after wiping the area). If we assume that you are working on a stirring wheel, try to start by cleaning the areas of the wheel that do not look as bad (areas that do not have any obvious signs of tear and wear, or they do not look as dirty/shiny/greasy). Typically that would be the bottom part of the steering wheel. Inspect the towel and look at the color of the dirt that you removed, as well as the finish of the cleaned area that you just worked on. That should give you an idea of how dirt looks like (on your towel) and how the surface of the normal/clean material (when in good condition) should look like. Then, move onto the dirtier areas, and again try using the same approach as before (even if the area looks dirtier and you think you need to be more aggressive). It is always to be safe than sorry!!! Spray, agitate, wipe down, inspect and repeat the prosses until the area is and looks clean. As you repeat the process the dirt you are pulling off and onto your towel should be less prominent after each application. If for some reason dirt on your towel starts getting darker, closer to a black color, that is usually an indication that you have removed the all the dirt but the clearcoat on the surface is worn out, so you are pulling off the black dye. In case where you have light color leather surfaces, work with a towel that will allow you to differentiate between the color of the dye and the dirt (white leather - use a light blue towel, tan leather - use a white towel, e.t.c.). Hope that helped!
Hello sir, my best regards for your time spended to answer my question, very detailed and informative aswer, Thanks a lot sir you were very helpfull for me, i will apply your suggetions to my skill set kind reegards my best wishes from Athens Greece
Darren, Karl here in Denver. Question, does the leather 'clear coat' break down over time? Eg, a 10-20 year old car, exposing the leather? Would you change your methodology for older leathers?
Not all steering wheels come clean with a scrubber, as I learned the hard way. On older cars the color can be stripped off the wheel on some cars. Because their so dirty and greasy, just saying .
I bet you he adds detergent to his washing machine, dishwasher, etc., instead of just using natures cleaner! Endless talk about nothing... get to the point man!
Wrong, need proper leather cleaner and conditioner and a soft brush like horse hair. This guy just did a really long video on how to ruin your steering wheel.
Mix it up and prime it wtf prime what bottle no way. Do not over think so why you got so many products in you garage ? Use water. Never seen anyone covering dash, just spray on brush or sponge if you dont like overspray . Sorry but must ask, are you ok . I'm doing exactly same funny things only when I'm drunk otherwise I'm very professional serious person
Just say you are bad at math. You just make yourself look stupid for saying you might as well be dyslexic. All you have to do is say cover the dash have a towel to protect for dripping then spray and scrub. We don't need 20 minutes of lecturing for a 3 minute process.
omg just clean it already
sorry you are so unhappy
Hahahahahahhaha!! I got you!!😂
Really, he is over thinking a easy process.
Darren explains what he’s doing and thinking without talking down to his audience. His friendly, conversational delivery makes the video a pleasure to watch. Thanks, Darren.
This guy make a 30 min video on just explaining on how to lift a toilet seat
Yes but I would also include how to not just lift it, but set it down....
Why people like to brag that they have an attention span of a 2 year old is beyond me. There's also this button at the top of your browser to go back, or, it takes less time to type in another URL (or UA-cam search) than it does to leave an idiotic comment. But, to each his own.

Darren: keep it up. Your videos are great. I really like the details explained!
Thank you

Sounds good
Thank you! Finally, someone with real common sense who doesn't want to rob me of my money. very informative! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I like your videos but you do over explain and talk to much. Yes explain but just do the practical stuff which is important and cut the time of the videos. I feel like saying hurry up while watching. 😜
Thanks Darren, respect from Saudi Arabia.
i had this problem, now steering wheel feels good, and smiled at me and said thanks :)
Karl again. I wrote my question too soon. You answered my quarry.

wow, yea. I have one too, excelent comment, thanks, gonn'a do that now.
Wow I didn't notice the video was 23 minutes when I clicked on it. Thanks for telling me. BRO just clean the damm thing. You over explain every detail. You would be good at writing a 10 page essay on "how to breathe"
man you have othere detailers explaining how to cleaning steering wheel so go there and watch their 3 min videos. This guy here want to explain everythng from A to Z and i am here for that. Ive watched 4 tutorials on this before and only got abrassive results, this one can be long but it shows how to clean without destroying the leather
Twenty four minutes of talking to spray a cleaner, scrub it, dry it, and then put a conditioner on it.
Rocket surgery.
I went and got my popcorn I figured this would be a 2 hour movie
wait til they release the cut scenes
I realized my steering wheel was very dirty. I just used hot water and added a little dish washing liquid and a old washcloth. Wow, it cleaned up quickly and the water was almost black from the dirt on my steering wheel. I think I need to get a kit for re-dying and clear coating my steering wheel.
Lol people giving this guy a hard time for being thorough and detailed. Well done people need or want all that detail. I watched it x2 speed. 👍
I already have water at my house that I already have and it's ready for me and that means I don't have to have the water shipped to me because I already have it at my house already ?
From our department of redundancy department
Hmm after some thought I went a head and buy leather brush, you are right when I did it with cleaner where if I don't wife dry well the cleaner becomes sticky, for that part water makes more sense like you said water is friendly.
Darren love your videos, It nice for you to show us novice how to go about doing the job right way.........
I have a question: If one does a thorough cleaning on leather steering wheels, would it be ok to add some type of clear coat or top coat to the leather for added protection?
Thank you for this video! Worked wonders on my 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis which had the NASTIEST sticky steering wheel.
Darren thanks so much youre such a living school for all of us interested in detailing and process improvement. Cheers!! 👍
Good info but most of us are older than 6 years old and have common sense. I am eager to learn more from experience I'm not looking to repeat 1st grade.

nice simple but elegant video.hope this finds u well
Hey Darren. Females watch you too. You said hey car guys. 😊
Most EXCELENT presentation
Video starts at 22:10
imagine getting stuck in a conversation with this guy...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Run
I cleaned my wheel with an all purpose cleaner and its more stiky than before i also tried to use a brush
Wow didn’t realize it was possible to take that long to clean a steering wheel….
I wanted to HATE this guy...but ended up loving him...LOL
That IS a “nasty word”, but it was well said lol. Thanks for explaining the thought process as well as the physical. That is the most important part! 🥸
I love that he said it, stopped and called it a "nasty word", then proceeded use it again lol
So applying jizz on the steering wheel makes it not sticky?.....so confused
I need that bell you describe to wake me up Darren
Wish I had watched this first 🤦♀️. Bought a used explorer, took a toothbrush and soapy water to the steering wheel. It’s now tacky and I think I feel the foam wheel under the leather. Guess I’ll be picking out a cover this weekend.
What if I only have a 32 oz bottle? I put 32 oz of water in then how do i add 2 oz of cleaner? 😆😉

what is the concentrate made of ? im going to try with water only tomorrow to see if thats gonna be enough
I will use leather brush and water only, the leather can get lubricated from my palm sweat thanks so much
20 mins..... the secret was soap, cloths and a brush. Well played my man.
The only question I have is what pad do you use, I heard it's 3m, do you have the model?
Dyscalcula, it’s a real thing. It is dyslexia but with numbers.
Dear mr.Darren again a fantastic video thank you for that. Sometimes on somold cars i cannot tell the different when i am.pulling out dirt or paint from.old.leather like this in the video or in old.vinul.plastiks e.t.c.........do you think only the experience can tell me that???

You are welcome, happy to help!
Awesome video man thanks!
Darren, Karl here in Denver. Question, does the leather 'clear coat' break down over time? Eg, a 10-20 year old car, exposing the leather? Would you change your methodology for older leathers?
It does break down which is why you have to go about it cautiously the older the car is
23:51 lost time I will never get back 😂
Love your videos
23 minute video on how to clean a fricking steering wheel! You have to be kidding me!
DAM i fell asleep as he was talking talking talking an missed the dam end.lol
Why no more meguiars concentrate?
Why not just spray your cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wipe it off?
I believe I did that at the very beginning
If there's a lot of gunk on it, then you need to do some scrubbing I guess. Microfiber cloths will stick to it and make it hard to wipe.
That's not the Max Power way!
So fascinated by a bottle lmao ever used fuel stabilizer before?
OR ACT KIDS MOUTHWASH! It operates the same way. Squeeze the bottle and it fills the little cup on top to the perfect amount
This video could have been done in 10 minutes. What a lot of rambling.
Aren’t you scraping the leather?? I did that to my leather steering and it scraped it
Not everyone is perfect. I’m not that great with numbers either 😂. I might as well be dyslexic too. I hate reading for too long of a period.
Around the 7:00 mark he actually gets to how to mix it!
Yawn...
Seriously. This could have taken a maximum of 15 minutes
I like it :-)
Are you Drunk ??? hehehehehe
The jizz hahahahaha *dead*
felt like i was in college all over again
Not all steering wheels come clean with a scrubber, as I learned the hard way. On older cars the color can
be stripped off the wheel on some cars. Because their so dirty and greasy, just saying .
Do you really think we are so stupid we don’t know how to clean a steering wheel?
At one time I could watch your ch , but dear friend plz get help your Not ok !!!
254JROCK no doubt. Jizzing and fondling steering wheels. Wtf?
Too much explaining. Informative nevertheless.
Totally overkill.. just get some soapy water and a wet rag.
I bet you he adds detergent to his washing machine, dishwasher, etc., instead of just using natures cleaner!
Endless talk about nothing... get to the point man!
No reason to take over 20 minutes to clean a steering wheel. Heaven forbid someone ever ask you for driving directions.
Water on leather? Sure, why not. Cows often get caught in the rain.
Meguair's should have named it leather gold class jizz....I bet it would sell like hotcakes.
"White Jizz" lmao
Long story, why so long?
Why didn't they make it 1:16 ratio?? Edit: they did I get that... Why did they call it 2:32 ratio? Beyond me
He kinda looks like the american version of simeon yeterian
Someone likes the sound of their own voice lol. Yap yap yap...😂
0:51 that sir is a toilet cleaner
Bottle brush
"this is a white.....jiz" 🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈 21:15
Imagine....a round steering wheel!
You are Bradley Cooper in 15 years.
Is this still clean or now a coronawheel? lol
You mention not to over-complicate the cleaning process... Then you go and complicate the video.
Thank you
Bla bla I fell a sleep

been awhile since last video. guess u have been swamped which is good thing..
I'll never get those 23 minutes back. Good info, but that's a 4 minute video with editing....
2 to 32? You mean 16 to 1 LOL
Lol.amazing
Just say you are bad at math. You just make yourself look stupid for saying you might as well be dyslexic. All you have to do is say cover the dash have a towel to protect for dripping then spray and scrub. We don't need 20 minutes of lecturing for a 3 minute process.
Bruh you talk WAYYYYYYYYY too much
Any female over ten years old would have had this done in less than five minutes. 🙄
Talk to much just do it !!!?? The vídeo start in minute 13:00
This video should of been 5 minutes at most wtf. Take the useful info and compress it.
That steering wheel really was gross and horrid. Lol omg disgusting.
Unsubbed. Gross language.
Talk less work more. 😂
Too much talking pass for me sorry
