Glad to see the sun out for you. Great tips on the Jang Seader. I have been thinking for a while about getting one. Cost being the main factor. Thanks for sharing and may you have many more sunny days.
Thanks! It was so heavenly to finally get a long stretch of sun 😁☀️ After spending too many days scrunched down in the garden bed planting carrot seed by hand, I finally decided to get the Jang mid-way through last year. It's so amazingly faster than hand planting, but I need to get it all dialed in before I have confidence in it. I hope that you have good gardening weather as well 🌱😊
Love your mathematical approach, so typically Katherine, I think. I hope the spacing will be perfect. Now you just have to wait in excitement for the result. I wish you the very best luck.
This is a great subject and its not one size fits all. I've went to five rows on a lot of my stuff this year and I'm digging it. I bought the combo pack offered buy paper pot and it had the LJ-24. I haven't started playing with the gear ratios yet, just using Curtis's chart that uses one standard set up. That being said I plan on experimenting changing it up on carrots and a couple other things. All things said I love my Jang. I feel like you have enough options that you can find a set up for almost every scenario. Happy Gardening!
The combo pack of rollers that I got from Johnny’s had the LJ-12, so I had to buy the LJ-24 later when I discovered last year that I couldn’t space closely with the LJ-12. I figure that I’ll be fiddling with rollers and gear settings until I find out what works best. I don’t want to buy a separate seeder just to plant seeds for beets and baby chard, so I hope to find a Jang setup that works for them 🤪
@@kathivy Yeah I admit I have thought about the Earthway for those crops but I haven't given the Jang a fair chance with them yet and I don't need another machine around if it isn't necessary even if it is quite a bit cheaper.
I’m putting together a follow-up video on the LJ-24 roller. When the seeds germinated I could see that there were a lot of skips, so I ended up running the seeder through again for four more rows between each of the original five rows for a total of 9 rows in each bed for the spinach, baby chard, and beets. I don’t think that it was a problem with germination because we’ve had a lot of rain. I’ll have to think through how I seed these in the future 😜
@@kathivy I'm trying to get the courage up to actually START a market garden and it's nice to have someone explaining things the way you do. Thanks for what you're doing!
@@JackSpellerberg I’m kind of bumbling my way through this process, reading and watching how other people do things, and then trying to apply it to this odd Southeast Alaska climate. Good luck to you!
You're funny - it grows and it bolts! Isn't that the truth on spinach! Mixed carrots are still sown carrots, at least they're in, that's the main thing! Doing the test on the wood was a great idea, Katherine! It really does do a good job of it!! Aren't squirrels darling with their little kuks and quaas!? I admire your mathematical skills, it's all Greek to me, but I get the concept and it's great data for you to use for planning!! Glad to hear the numbers made you feel better about it! Looking forward to the follow up!! Moving to the plot tomorrow, but I might not show you how I seed though, because it's more of a chuck it in method, just one step above throwing it in the air and watching it land! lol I hope it all works out beautifully for you my friend!! Have an awesome day!!💖
Even though I rolled the seeds out on cardboard and a log, I didn't believe my eyes and had to count seeds 😄 Yes, you're right, the seeds are in the ground and that's the most important thing, and right before a bunch of rain, which will hopefully help them germinate well. I'm so excited to hear that you will be able to plant into the allotment!!! That's how I plant my clover seed; just throw it out there. That's the best way sometimes 🌱🌱🌱🌱
Yeah that was a cool way to see how it's doing! So glad you got the rains!! Perfect timing!! Oh yes busy weekend ahead, lots of trips, with dog, wagon and camera! I'll see what I can put together! I love that you throw the clover!! Yay!! Have an awesome weekend, Katherine!! Cheers! 💖 @@kathivy
Good morning Katherine 😴🙄 you would get on very well with my other half,we haven't got a spacing machine but you will often see him on his knees with a measuring stick, bless 😆 have a wonderful weekend, enjoy every moment. All the very best 🌱🌱🌱💕
Haha the reason that I got a seeder was because I didn't want to have to get on my knees with a measuring stick! That darn tool is supposed to do the measuring for me 😄
Once you get the gears and rollers dialed in for the specific crop that you’re planting, the tool is precise enough for my standards and very fast to seed beds. I’m still trying to learn how to successfully seed chard and beets. I have a couple of more recent videos from 2022 Season with some Jang seeding experiments listed in my Tools Playlist.
the manual sowing of seeds is an outdated method that no one uses anymore. in fact, even the technology that Kathy uses will very soon be abandoned as also obsolete. the future lies in drone seeding!!
