Comparing the new for 2019 Cardo JBL with the IASUS XSound 3. Straight out of the box - No headsets, no EQ, no audio enhancements of any kind, just 3.5mm directly into my iPhone 6. Which sounds better? With my conclusion.
Cardo JBL - 1:18 and 3:02
Iasus XSound 3 - 2:04 and 4:26
Conclusion - 6:04
Alternating between Songs 1 and 2 - 7:08 and 7:46
This is what a product comparison video should be. As an audiophile, quality sound is a must. I have the Cardo Packtalk edge with the 45mm JBL speaks. And we’ll in short it leaves a lot to be desired. So I’m in the market to upgrade my speakers, and this is just the type of comparison video I was hoping for. Thank you for you time and posting this video.
can't figure out which communicator to get so that I can change speakers easily, and retain microphone. Some seem to have a proprietary connector for headset, and some have a usb c, and some have a 3.5mm
any advice?
I was looking at a Lexin B4FM but I can't see how the speakers connect. Should I just get the cardo, and some better speakers and avoid quality issues?
What did you end up getting? Or do you still use the 45mm?
did u end up buying them? , im looking to upgrade mine and wonder if the quality and volume are worth the price
5 years later and still one of the best review videos for motorcycle speakers. Thank you!
I have NEVER SEEN SUCH GREAT COMPARISON REVIEW video. 😀
It's a great way of comparing each product on splitted on right-left screen.
It's the comparison video on UA-cam.!!!!!!!
👍👍
The XSound3 speakers are by far the best speakers I've used. I use the speaker just with my phone... I've tried the JBL and the UClear previously but XSound3 still has the best sound IMO. Their rave about the full range clean audio is true you really hear everything in any song... Even my bose earbuds don't sound as good. I might get their XSound 2 to see how they compare since it's only like $35 or something. OVerall you still need to really listen to the actual speakker to justify the sound. Totally worth it!
Thanks for watching! I agree, the XSound 3 is the absolute best speaker I've used too.
I also did a XSound 3 vs XSound 2.1 comparison, check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/6dMOCJfOj3I/v-deo.html
Thank you for posting this! JBL sounded too high, very tinny like someone else mentioned. I bit the bullet and got the XSound 3. Listening in my helmet the bass sounds exactly like how this video sounded using my headphones, good on you for using a high fidelity audio recorder like the Zoom H1. Kudos!
Jbl and the iasus sounds both similar here but trust me I bought 2 of the iasus and they are both super loud and music is very clear. Jbl is great also but it's just not loud for me. If u guys want that extra volume then get iasus 👌
Great review - very professional. Personal taste for me... Both are very good but I prefer the JBL output. The flaw is that the JBL speakers are designed to run with the unlocked tweaks / its like saying that a rocket is not giving thrust when you trying to fuel it with diesel.....
Yes, I guess that is how some things work now. Need to register or purchase license of some sort to get the full capabilities and all product features. Thanks for watching! Please share with your friends!
NO comparison, the X sound has much better bass the JBL sounds tinny
the IAXUS have really boomy lows and sizzling highs with a huge lack of mids. The Cardo JBL seems to have a more flat EQ distribution. Hugely favour the JBLs tbh.
Best audio review ever
Hey man hope you're still there the XSOUND 4 HELMET SPEAKERS are out and you can test them
Will you do a comparison of the 45mm JBLs vs the 42mm JBLs?
I've tried both and I found the Xsound 3 to sound much more refined, it's like the JBL is a concert whereas the Xsound is like an orchestra with how you can hear the quality of each note, even when riding at speed. I ended up returning the JBL and kept the XSound 3.
You do understand that orchestras perform concerts? Your analogy is like saying, "jbl is like a painting, whereas the xsound is like art".
@@SaltyPirate71 you still understood what he was saying tho lol
@@mustbescud What I understood was that he didn't effectively express an analogy. Why the fuck are you stirring shit that doesn't concern you from over a year ago?
I didn't believe this video so I bought both speakers from Amazon and did my own test. The difference is real. Keeping the Xsound 3, JBL is going back to Amazon. Easy return ftw!
Excellent video! I have wrestled with helmet audio for years now. I now know that I HAVE to wear soft earplugs to keep the wind noise from damaging my hearing. I have the Cardo Packtalk Bold and it doesn't get quite loud enough to get past the earplugs. I decided to get the IASUS EAR3V2 amplifier along with the XSound3 speakers. You review helped me choose the speakers. I submitted my order tonight. I'll let you know how well it works.
How well does it work?
@@worldtech8345 Not as well as I'd hoped. The amp does seem to increase the volume about 30%(as claimed) and the EARV2 speakers have a very "scooped" eq (all bass and high treble with low midrange) which means they don't project well enough to offset wind noise and ear plugs. I should also say that I also purchased the Cardo JBL upgrade speakers which I tested as well. While trying them out at home with no ear plugs, the JBL sound was much better, more balanced and clearer, but on the road, neither set (combined with the amp. which I should point out was a major PITA to find a suitable mounting place on the helmet - it looks messy and the included wires are not long enough, necessitating lots of fiddling with extensions, etc.) worked well enough to justify the high price tag (notably, I also downloaded the Cardo App which provides the eq upgrades, but that didn't help much) - so I sent everything back and bought a set of "bone conduction" ear phones instead. I got the wired version instead of the blue tooth version so I could plug it directly into the Cardo intercom system. Because they transmit sound through the bone structure of the head close to the ears, they work even better with ear plugs. At highway speeds you can hear voices quite clearly and most elements of music clearly, but admittedly you lose some fidelity. I think it may be unreasonable to expect good music fidelity while traveling at speed wearing ear plugs. The other major problem with the bone conduction earphones is discomfort with a tight fitting helmet (a Shoei Air GT). I'm going to play around with this a bit.
If you are already using earplugs, just use some in ear earbuds with the cardo. Two birds one stone.
The JBL sound super tinni. What too much treble and no real Bass in comparison. I know what I'll be getting. 👍
Amazing comparison. Thank you very much for your time and efforts. I myself use the cargo pack talk Edge in my snowmobile helmet. I often find myself craving more bass less treble. I'll be ordering these speakers ASAP thanks a lot
Great comparison! I purchased both, tested both, sent the IASUS back. Both had great sound quality, the JBL just had more punch
More punch as in more bass?
@@Melan.D Across all frequencies in my opinion
I purchased both off Amazon. I installed them and rode my obnoxiously loud V-Twin around for a bit.
Iasus was clear but a little thin and tinny sounding. It got drowned out at higher speeds. JBL sounded fuller and had more depth and still sounded pretty darn good at 105 mph. JBL FTW.
I disagree, in the first song the JBL had clean bass and treble but the IASUS was making some sort of squeaking noise when the bass and treble overlapped. Overall I thing the JBL sound much better and clearer vs the IASUS sound like you were in a long tunnel far from the speaker. Just my conclusion.
Great test!
Honestly during the test at 2:10 I can hear a quivering sound (in the highs) coming from the iAsus, which you can barely hear on the JBL. JBL sound a a bit more muddy but sound not as nearly distorted in the high ranges.
thanks for the high quality review brah. just ordered two xsound 3s
Great video bro! All I need to know.
Thanks for watching Brandon. Share with your friends!
Thanks you verry much, simple and efficient, i like your reviews because you go straight to the points.
Very informative and surely will order the x3 thank you for your time bro
Not sure what everyone else was listening to but the JBL sounded significantly better imo. Far less tin, louder, better bass.
No comparison: Iasus speakers are legit the best sounding speakers I've ever used. The
only speakers I can still kind of hear on a built race bike with full headers above 200kmh. I have 2 sets of the 3 speakers in both of my helmets. Good bass and treble. There are specific songs that kind of skew the sound but it does the same with the crappy stock speakers that have no range at all. Don't be cheap, spend the little extra if you want better audio. It's worth it. I saw that now they have their own helmet comms headset I'd look into that. Have you gotten a set yet? I'd like to see a review!
Thanks for this review. Amazon listing the JBL 45mm at $77.14 compared to IASUS XSound 3 at $119. IASUS has a TINY bit more treble, but for $43 more you might as well just tune it in your EQ settings to get more treble.
The JBL 45mm are better if you can download the latest firmware with the "Audio Profil unlocked" that is comming the the JBL. :-)
@@bobato27 hey man do you find the bass is distorted? When volume is high?
@@arvy9254 I certainly do
Bruh. Thank you so much for making this.
Amazing review Man.. Great job
I just got syphon sound speakers. I feel like it’s a complete sham. The description says thumping bass. I don’t hear bass at all. Had to change eq settings. Didn’t help. Then had to use Spotify to change additional settings. Barely helped. I’m I doing something wrong? I trust jbl. But haven’t tried it yet
Can you compare them against the newer 4 model? Please
The are very very similar. That said I would have to give the edge to the Iasus, BUT in real world conditions like riding down the road on a Harley doing 85, those subtle differences will NOT be noticed. The best you can hope for is more VOLUME.
Thank you for your testing.
bro this its a 10/10 video, thanks for this
IASUS has a fuller sound with awesome bass!
I have the Cardo JBL and the newest unit the edge. It’s pure ass for 400 bucks. I gotta order these speakers asap.
Any updates? On the fence for 45mm jbl or the XSound
@@gerryclemonsii all I know is the stock ones are terrible. I haven’t gotten the 45’s yet.
iAsus wins hands down. better balanced sound, especially midrange.
I bought my Cardo Freecom 2X in January 2023. It is now June 2023 and my left JBL speaker is blown. Im pretty disappointed. Sound quality was acceptable. I had the bass boost profile loaded. My helmet is pretty loud(Bell Bullitt), so admittedly I wear ear plugs and have the speakers fairly loud. I commute every day so put plenty of hours on these speakers but still, damn. Couldnt even get 5 months out of them. I can warranty them and have them replaced, and will do that but I would prefer to just buy something better. Guess Ill have to give the IASUS a shot.
Currently debating a purchase of a pre-wired headset or wiring in my own for my Packtalk. Was curious about the JBL option and I can see now that it would be better to not buy them and just pick up the x3's. Being a semi-audio nut I can appreciate the work you are putting into the basic testing and can also clearly hear the difference in the units. Thank you for your work on these and looking forward to more. Subscribed...

Can you test Midland with RCF speakers and IASUS XSOUND 4?
Great video mate, great work
HI, yes, you are correct. Even the old 40mm HD speakers and the newer 40mm JBL speakers are the same. what JBL is doing is providing EQ and sound curve to the Cardo unit.
Can I put two pairs inside the helmet, meaning 4 headphones to enhance the sound?
I would love to see this comparison between the cardo JBL and the uclear pulse!
the iasus almost sound like the voice coil or something is rubbing on the bass notes, and overall seems to have scooped mids
JBLs win based on the headphones that I'm listening to this video with. The XSound have a noticeably more distortion. During the side-by-side comparison I didn't look at which one was playing. I just listened to the audio and stopped the video whenever I heard the LESSER QUALITY audio. And every time that I stopped the video, the XSound was playing. JBL wins IMO.
Do we need an amplifier for the xsound since the operate at double the ohm to operate at their maximum potential? 32 vs 64ohm. I doubt the packtalk can drive 64 by default without external amplifier
Great review. Next time you should play music through the speakers. I think that would be much more definitive.
Right just like adoby sound hate there trying to market there own softer you have to use so the sound works better. I bought some rear theater speakers for my house and they needed adoby... or a certain channel to even work
Trying to decide between the jbl and the x sound 2.1 but I can’t find a comparison. What would thoughts be on those 2 for the better speaker???
To clarify, the quality of the headphones you used to listen to the video matters!
Use Yamaha Pro 400 ($300), XSound 3 sounds better
Use Apple Earpods ($30) then JBL sounds better
XSound 3 has audio range outside of standard headsets
I just bought the JBL's... My AirPods sound MUCH better.
Hi just purchadsed the JBL 45mm Yesterday and was very disapointed as i have the JBL 40mm that came with my Packtalk slim // it is actually 6db less loud than my 40mm JBL and bass is less punchy // could you by any chance tell me if the X3 is louder than the JBL ? 45mm was a downgrade for me and returning them unfortunately 😕 so still looking for something louder and better than my 40mm JBL
You should test the 40mm JBL interesting how they hold up against the X3
Take care
Zohard
That's because the 45mm run at twice the ohm. You need an amplifier to run at that impedance. The guy in this video is using a device with dac\amp. Not a common sena or packtalk edge
I have the JBL love them.
JBL is the clear winner. Listen to the snares at the start of the first track, before the vocals. The ASUS has a weird digital distortion to it, the JBL is clearer and more realistic.
Hmm, IAsus sound tinny and very V shaped. Personally. Edit. Nah, the IAsus kills them when you heat them in the comparison lol.
Hi, can i ask where did you buy the iasus?
where can i get a set of iasus speakers? "all sold out!"
Thanks for this review. I have a question, I have a Schubert C4 helmet. As you know, they have their own speakers. But the sound does not satisfy me, I want to change it. If I buy, can I replace them with them, is it possible, could you please investigate and let me know... Thanks
What difference would a helmet amplifier make?? Thanks
Hey man, would you mind me a short list of bluetooth headsets I could use with these Xsound 3's? I'm trying to go mostly cheap on the Bluetooth headset because I want it mostly for music, but when I look at things like the Lexin b4fm the speakers and the mic are built in to one 3.5mm jack. Are there any other alternatives that won't break my bank?
nice video! D
Damn, I've just bought a JBL 45mm today :D
p.s. It would be also great to compare their max vol. :)
Thanks for watching! That's a good idea for a future video.
@kam1nokage do you find the jbl speakers sound distorted and crackly (especially bass) when you connect it to the cardo headset? (at full volume)
Nice try, but putting the speakers on a reflective surface is a useless test. Until they are in your helmet, with your head, you won't know how they are tuned to sound.
How can tell with that type of music?
what about the Tork x-pro speakers, i hear those are pretty decent and loud.
The JBL highs are too high. Uasus has waaay more bass
How long is the cable to connect to your phone?
I can't believe how many people enjoy the harsh tinny sounds of jbl... Cardo should just give everyone the sound equalization software... Without paying a $80 premium....
I've tired an equaliser and it still sounds tinny and distorted... Really frustrating only got my freecom 2 weeks ago. Is there a way to fix it?
Considering the Xsound 3 are double the price of the JBLs, they should sound better.....
They are not double. They are $120 The JBLs are $90
Cardo sounds fuller the other one sounds a little hollow
Can you try the midland bt rush speakers vs xsound3 speakers
How could I put these into my lexin G16
IASUS has best build quality hands down. bought the X Sound 3 because they are very good.
Which Cardo JBL 45mm speaker is this? Is it the one that came with the packyalk edge black or the latest on Cardo is selling?
NO Cardo units don't come standard with 45mm speakers. Suggestion; Read a bit before writing uneducated comments and making a fool of yourself!

Where can I buy Iasus in Europe?
I`ve had 2 pair of the Iasus 3 speakers. they both sounded great for about 1 year then the junky wires broke. I emailed them no answer. Kevlar wires, are defective.
WHAT IS THE THICKNESS OF THE IASUS IN MM BRO ?
That is information you can get by looking at the products yourself
how can I recover lost jbl activation code?
What the song called not drake but the other one?
No acoustic instruments ?
Thanks for your suggestion. Good idea for future video!
JBL more louder and harder ,IASUS more softer
But both quality is good
You really should have installed each in a helmet and done your recording within the helmet.
We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.
Are they both waterproof?
They are both in your helmet, are you going to swim with a helmet on?
@@kolderbosgenk5454 yes I'm using motorcycle helmet for swimming.

Wow, sound better jbl? Without robotic effect on the voice?
Thanks for watching. Share with your friends!
late to the party, but isnt the test flawed ?
sounds to my like the mic sitting on top of the speaker kind of influences the resonance
the ones on the right for example i can hear oscillating
also i watched this on iphone loudspeakers, so yeah, it is obvious
It's a good method, since helmet speakers are suppose to be touching on your ears anyway so the mic on the audio recorder acts as such.
Viewers should really listen to my comparisons using earbuds, headphones, or good PC speakers. Phone speakers and laptop speakers won't give you an accurate representation of what was recorded. Otherwise, I won't need to be using a prosumer/professional level audio recorder for these comparisons, lol
Stuff Review i see what youre saying, but my point is that the audio is pretty weird, and that is obvious to me even though listening through iphone xr speakers (which arent too bad tbh)
ill give it a listen on my hd686 later on and edit in the timestamp where i noticed the oscillating part
(also i noticed the weird sound on the speakers you declared the winner :D)
edit: the oscillating i was talking about is most noticable with the first drake song. could you link me the video you used in your video please ? if the oscillating is not from the sound source, it might be from the mic "shaking" up and down, since its sitting on top of the speaker instea of being suspended on top of it
This should be the one: ua-cam.com/video/84yTsE4eNYQ/v-deo.html
Uhmm.. You need you run this test apples to apples. You NEED to test this with the cardo upgraded profile. You do not know how it will affect sound quality so as far as I am concerned, this is not a true test with Cardo units. Also, acoustics & sound dynamics will work differently within a helmet. I would suggest updating your bench test apparatus to accommodate those parameters to truly compare these units and include the foam head to wedge between the speakers and the mic to displace the empty space. However, based on what I am hearing in a open environment, the Iasis XSound 3 was the better performer in this setting.
This is not a good test in a helmet the sound you neet is verry different
the most people ride with airplugs
Thanks for watching. This is apples to apples - people forget that Cardo actually claims on their website the JBL speakers work even without their headsets (therefore, without using the software audio profiles). So if you used a non-Cardo headset or phone for music, these two out of the box speakers are what you would be choosing from.
There were no space between the audio recorder and the helmet speakers tested. Just like how your ears are suppose to be touching the speakers at all times inside the helmet. The only difference between this test and inside a helmet is the potential for engine and wind noise getting in between, but how properly the speakers are installed to be touching your ears and centered on them will determine that. Unlike the inside of a car where there is space between the speaker and you, that does not exist inside a helmet. Only thing to consider is the speakers installation.
I do agree that the Iasus sounds much better. I couldn’t be happier with the XSound 3 for my riding, and still going strong after a few years.
Your recorders reminds me of Beeker from The Muppets.
good video!
arigato~
So let me tell you I got the JBL if you got a straight pipe sport bike the JBL’S Won’t work don’t know about the xsound 3 yet The JBL sounds loud because he has the recorder on the spike remember the helmet has thick padding 😷
The speakers don't sit behind all that thick padding though. They mount in the speaker cut outs and pretty much sit on your ears the same way standard over the ear headphones would.
JBL somes with sound profiles with cardo unit and special firmware to open all of their capabilities. This test with phone is useless in case you want them use with Cardo unit.
Yes, that's right. This test will be the useful for non-Cardo users since Cardo advertises on their web site the JBL speakers "fit practically any communicator on the market, no matter what brand."
So JBL is better for Cardo users? I just bought a cardo, so go JBL?
@@gerryclemonsii they are but normal are working pretty good I have never required JBL but for some sound maniacs… could be worthy
Idk man... the jbl sounds more clear. Sounds like the iasus is tuned with more treble and the bass sounds identical. At least through my AirPods.

3:02 | 4:27 ; JBL~ASUS - SONG 2
RipOFF! I'm watching this on my laptop and these speakers sound exactly like my laptop speakers!
More clean JBL end wide áudio! 🙄
this is complete nonsense! Testing a loudspeaker without its housing (which in this case is the helmet and the ear to cover) says absolute nothing about the sound. As a comparison: take a high end headphone with the most incredible sound and make a record as you did here - it will sound like crap! You have to mount the speakers into a helmet and put it on; and btw, even then different persons with different helmets will get very different sound. Testing something without any knowledge of the topic is misleading.....
Which set of speakers is louder? I have the JBL 45mm currently and they don’t get loud enough for me.
The video seems like both are about the same loudness with a bit more low end punch from the IASUS.
Thanks in advance
To me, volume speaking, they are both pretty equal. Mind you, one helmet speaker that's slightly louder than another won't make much of a difference inside your helmet when riding at speed. At that point it depends on how loud your bike and wind noise are and how good your helmet blocks outside noise. As long as you have them touching your ears, they will work.
