I positively agree with Sequential’s support, i bought a Polyevolver many years ago but one of the voices didn’t seem to work, i thought maybe it was operator error, i had somehow disabled a voice or something so sent an email to Sequential. I got a reply the same day from a certain Mr Dave Smith, yep, The Dave Smith… he asked me to try a few things to diagnose the problem and report the results which i did, after which he said the voice board was faulty and said he would send me a new voice board with instructions on how to replace my faulty board, he asked me to return the original board so he could check it out. A few days later the new board arrived along with postage paid packaging to return the faulty board… everything was free, even the customs duty (I was based in the UK at the time). The new board worked perfectly and was extremely easy to replace, just a few screws and a plugin ribbon cable or 2.

Nice review. My first Sequential was a Prophet 600 over 30 years ago (so pre Gligli), which I sold and instantly regretted. I picked up a Take 5 in June of last year, and I absolutely love it, though I agree that the effects are the weak link. To me, the Take 5 is a really different beast from the Prophets. Sure, it's got the DNA, but it still manages to have a quite different sound. I subsequently picked up one of the Behringer Pro-800s so I could have my Prophet 600 back, too. They're a great combination. But the analog in my studio I gravitate to first is alway my Take 5. Oh, I've only had to calibrate the tuning on my Take 5 once, and it's been absolutely rock solid since, and temps in my studio are far from constant. The same holds true for my Polybrute. The Pro-800 is like my old Prophet 600, though -- it'll drift as studio temps change.

T5 sounds great, love how people complain that 5 voices something something, this betters anything Behringer has cloned, and has more voices.
People need to use before complaining.
I think this is an amazing synth, will be a perfect partner with the Teo 5 imo.

I think this synth is absolutely brilliant. It really does take a lot of the ideas present on the P5 further, and puts it into a more manageable package. I kinda wish the build quality was a a little more solid, but then again that very thing is what keeps the price down, so I dunno.
To be honest, I’m going back and forth on whether to keep this or to get the P5. The P5 is a dream synth, wanted one for ages. But since I got this thing I’ve realized that it can do a lot more, while sounding very similar. I’m not sure what I’ll do. All I know is that you can’t go wrong with a Dave Smith instrument.

I’m on the fence on saving up to get a p5 as well. But the take5 stays for sure.

Thanks for the review, I trust your reviews. Heard good things about this synth from other sound designers, it seems to have a wide pallet of sound possibilities. With the passing of Dave Smith I have wondered about the company and the new buyer. And it's at a price point that has lots of 8 voice choices (System8, Peak, DM). I have been toying with the idea of two DeepMind 6's for a true stereo analog synth. I worry in the analog realm of more than 6 voice poly's tuning issues, so, my studio has been digital for poly's. 1-4 voices for analogs, which I think of as monosynths that can have longer releases and overlap notes.

I couldn't stomach the cost of a 'real' Prophet so I picked up one of these second hand and after a year I feel like i have barely scratched the surface of what it can do. It sounds glorious and keeps surprising me. It is now my only Poly, I sold the others.

Honestly, I found the Reverb quite good, but OK, this is a personal taste.

VCA is also digital (after filter, signal gets digitized).

Nope! It’s actually a common complaint by many others as well. Maybe they can add it in a firmware update.

@@YukiTheSynthDragon Ouch , hence the editor that can be handy in this case , trying to decide between a REv 2 / take 5 / peak / prophet 12 desktop , small room on desk here , actually i have a Minilogue Xd module witch suprised me sonically by the way .... will i gain something sonically or it's more a features thing ?
You should do a comaprisaon bewteen the peak and take 5 withy minilogue as challenger , not a features fight but you decide to make like 3 patches and you see where you end up on each (you give yourself fixed time lol )
Thks , discovered your channel , really liking the content in this ocean of mediocrity !!

the delay is a mod destination too. ..part of why i got it. but mostly that filter. i waste a lot of time just sweeping patch 1:1. i noticed your keybed comment in your ms1 vid. imo, the take5 and ms1 keybeds feel identical to me. i really like them. imo korg wavestate et al have garbage keybeds. fwiw, i buy synths for their sound, and just roll with the punches when quirks are encountered.

    • @YukiTheSynthDragon

Yeah the wavestate has the worst keybed I have ever felt on a non toy since.
