  • In episode 2 we respond to another call: a murder at the headquarters where replicants are made in the Tyrell Corporation. Later we secure a meeting with the man himself, Tyrell, to see what we can learn.

The police station is located in old Union Station, LA

Good call, I think I vaguely remember that, but that explains the architecture.

@@LetsPlayWithBrigands I live in LA and spent a nice day alone checking out BR locations once. This and the Bradbury Building.

I think you can also not kill Zuben somehow

Yes you are correct. Arresting him might be an option, and of course he's there in the end with some of the endings (no spoilers for everyone beyond that).

@@LetsPlayWithBrigands I think I've ended up shooting him both times I've played through this. Such an excellent game... with one teeny tiny annoying "click specifically here within 3 seconds" bit that took a lot of tries to get right....

So the vk test, how do you know if they are a Replicant? I don't see what you are looking for.

The concept is somewhat similar to a polygraph test, except it's measuring physiological responses in order to determine emotional and emphathic capacity, which is lower in Replicants than humans.

I don't get a lot of positive results when it comes to Reps especially, but the basic idea is we're gauging their emotional capacity as Micah mentioned, so we throw a variety of questions in terms of intensity at them to try to elicit a response which would get them to reveal their true nature. If I do it right, the test confirms Replicant or Human... ha I just don't vary the intensity up effectively most of the time to catch them off guard to confirm when they're Reps.

@@LetsPlayWithBrigands If you press the red button a couple more times, you can ask some additional questions to calibrate the machine, which might help.

To answer the question as directly as possible, a skin job is implanted with simulated memories, which can provoke certain emotional reactions to intense questions. The memories are good, but not perfect, so when a rep answers certain questions, their response will be almost imperceptibly off when compared to a human.
The game only has a few VK tests for possible replicants, and who is and isn't a replicant can change.
One absolute giveaway; if Steele shoots them dead, they were a replicant.
      Zueben is always a replicant.
The poet who did the animal murder at Runciter's is always a replicant.
Spencer Gregorian (the replicant sympathizer) is always human.
Almost everyone else in the game might be a replicant, or they might be human.
There's not really a guarantee that the Voight Kampf test is what McCoy will use to identify any particular replicant.
And McCoy can only ask up to 10 questions. Asking too many stressful can make the subject immediately terminate the test without a clear result. The test can also be inconclusive. The test absolutely can positively identify a replicant, but it's not a guarantee that McCoy will ask the question(s) which will cause a reaction which matches the replicant profile.
As to what the test is looking for... The responses to some, but not all questions are very subtly different if the character is a replicant vs if they're human. The responses feel "muted," they look, sound, feel like the response is what the character "should" feel, or "should" say, rather than what they authentically feel. Where there should be anger, there's something closer to severe irritation for instance. Or the reaction feels more like a simulation than an authentic emotional response.
