Lechmere will always be my favorite retailer. Prior to MW buying them out, they carried quality products and had almost anything you wanted. From sporting goods, cameras, luggage, jewelry, music they had it all. Can’t begin to count how many hours I spent in this store in the 80’s. It was the best and there will never be another like it.
9:15 So THAT'S what happened! I worked there in 1997. One day, was really hungover and told a customer looking for a breadmaker to ask someone else, cause housewares 'wasn't my job'. Next day, the store was closed for good.
‘Is Lechmere right for you...? We’re seeking associates that want to be part of our team. Unless, of course- we decide we don’t need you, in which case you’ll be terminated.’
This company had a store in Woburn and that store and we were in had a special station for workers there. I visit that station, even though I never worked there and the company and Station closed before I was even born, what I do have a love for abandoned train stations.
Oh Boy I remember seeing this when I started, I opened the Distribution ctr in GA . in 1986 Promoted to warehouse Mgr Clearwater Fl , then Greenville SC, had 2 kids and they decided to close the southeast region. Wanted to send me to Boston glad I never went as they closed those stores too.
Jerry O'Halloran one of the best of the old time stores. I used to work at filenes basement in dedham in the early 90s and lechmere was next door. Now the whole building is a BJ's. Such nostalgia for those days!
Jerry... I worked at the Clearwater store in 88/89 computers then TV department until they closed the store. I enjoyed working there while going to college. Sell those extended warranties!!!
@@ericreynolds9354 I think I was in the Greenville SC store at that time. Bill Bruty was the general MGR of Clearwater, Jim Frering, Michelle Gastor, are a few names I remember as well
Fond memories of going into the flagship location in East Cambridge (where the Galleria Mall is) in the late 70s/early-80s! If I remember correctly, they had lay-a-way. I was usually with my family and we lived in the projects so... LOL!
The exact store a lot of our commodore 64 and amiga software came from. And probably TV's and the original twin console VCR! Though I was more enamored with the "Let's Pretend" toy store inside the mall
Anybody remember Dave Ruane who worked in the Danvers store? He was also a Teacher in the Malden public school system. Loved Lechmere for their Stereo equipment.
Arthur Collins, is there a video with this department store's ceiling fans? If not can you please upload one? This department store's ceiling fans were discontinued in early to mid 1993; 4 and a half years before this department store closed.

Loved Lechmere when I was a teen - looking at their stereo, tv and HIFI equipment.
Loved going to Lechmere at Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers as a kid to check out the stereos. I think it’s now a Target.
Loved going there as a kid. I think there was one down from Child World in Dedham.
"What about benefits?"
"You work here, and we give you money."
And the employee discounts. Don’t forget those. They’re the tops!
Remember when these shitty employers had all this crazy control over their employees?
Wow. Lechmeres didnt mess around. They really expected the most of you for that $1.75 per hour.
Wow..xe
What replaced this in liberty tree mall?
‘Is Lechmere right for you...? We’re seeking associates that want to be part of our team. Unless, of course- we decide we don’t need you, in which case you’ll be terminated.’
They only lasted 14 more years..
