Since I use only small cameras and tripods, I use the Arca quick release you showed (exactly the one) and removed the small screws on each side of the plate, so I can slide it out, instead of open it up completely, one small twist and slide. Is almost as fast and hassle free as your new system. What I don’t like about the iFootage is, that you can’t use long QR plates for adjusting position. It is always centered, which is not always preferred (i.e. cameras without centered tripod mount; or adjusting for center of gravity with a long lens or for nodal etc.) Other than that it seems great and suitable for professional gear.
I thought these were really expensive when I first saw them, but mounting cameras in different areas was a pain. I ordered three - impressed! Much more impressive in person. Well made, great product. Buying some more. Hope to see you back soon Kevin, everyone misses you.
Sold... I'm going to buy these right now. Thank you for this video this has been on my list of "i need to find a solution before I go crazy" thanks for saving me a tonne of research. :D
They are awesome. Not sure if they apply to actions cams, but now that I mention it, I'm going to try it. Also want to see if I mount this to my mavic, if I can create a flying tripod (joke). :)
@@BasicFilmmaker : Haha, do it, do it, DO IT ! I can really use these for my larger cameras as going from one tripod to another and then a slider is such a PAIN.
I've recently purchased quite a few joby gorilla pods. It is currently working for my situation. However I have a small camera (SL1) the moby build quality is plastic and plates lack consistency. I had to file one down so it would fit in my other joby heads. ARCA swiss good stuff but some camera plates have slider pins underneath that will not let you dismount a camera and place it on a table without it tipping over. The sea star appears to have a flush flat bottom that would remedy this. Thank you Kevin and congrats on 100k! -Will
Hi Will and thank you. Are you planning on mounting this to the Joby? I haven’t tried this in small lightweight equipment like that. Interested to hear how it works for you. Thanks!
@@BasicFilmmaker I hadn't thought about using it on the Joby. Not a bad idea. I have just used the Joby heads as a cheap effective way to save time moving all of my microphones and cameras around on different tripods and Sliders and C stand overhead microphone rigs. I can buy just the swivel head and Camera mount for $40 or I can buy the whole tripod and head and Camera mount for under $20 gently used on eBay. Cheaply built it fits my budget and helps save time. But I am interested in the quality of the sea star and the flat bottom profile. Definitely on the list 4 upcoming buys. Thanks again. -Will
That sounds great will. The reason why I question it is I wasn’t sure if you were trying to mount something like a little action camera onto a small tripod that was flexible or something like that. For a flat bottom on a tripod, a mono pod, etc., I highly recommend these as they are stable and make moving your gear A breeze.
Oh wow, these look so sturdy/helpful. I’ve been using an older Manfrotto quick release and the little lock knob always gets blocked by the camera. Drives me nuts!
This is cool, Kevin. Do you think I could mount the base of the Seastars Q1 to an On-stage MA-100 or MA-125 screwed onto an On-stage TM08C bolted to a desk?
Huh. I actually don't know but I don't see why not. A cool idea. I've been thinking cameras this whole time and didn't even think about other items. Neat! Going to try some things like this.

It clicks and snaps into place. No way it would come undone without grabbing two of the tabs, and twisting it. It takes a definite effort, so no worries about these ever coming undone.
Do these rotate once mounted? I mean is camera facing forward or can it attach in different directions .I use the small square QR plates which go in one way.
@@luckyqualmi That's cool - not for everyone. When I mount to gimbals, such as the AK4500, I always mount the Seastars to the QR plates on there so I have the best of both worlds.

They don't need it really as they hold up to 20 pounds. For applications, I would these under a video head. If that small amount of front to back adjustment is needed for some reason, I would mount these under the slider mount.
@@timtrottproductions Again, using with a video head is the best option. I mount the Seastars base plates to everything, then mount to connector to the video head and camera like I did in the start of the video.
