    The Omega PloProf is the A-10 Warthog of the watch world. Beautiful in its own purpose-built way.

    PloProf, as a watch, gives you more than the Deep Sea ❤️

    That omega is hideous. But if I had the money I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It's just so cool.

      Well put! It's like driving slowly by a car wreck, you don't want to see stuff, but you kinda do. Like this watch I am astounded, but can't look away. Holy crap the lume on the ploprof is incredible!

    I have both of these exact watches and love them both but the quality of the omega is the winner for me.

    Highly thorough and fair comparison, right down to the millimeter. That is rare in watch comparisons. Thank you!

    Hey Tim, thanks for this vid! Awesome review. Great lume on the Ploprof!!! Went to the AD to check out the Ploprof but was too heavy for a daily beater. Still waiting though for the 2015-2016 Titanium models to arrive to go check & see the actual weight reduction. Keep em reviews coming!

    Great presentation, as always!
    One note though, the 8500 housed in the 2009 ploprof does not feature the silicon balance spring. This was introduced later on, although I don't know the exact year or model that premiered it.

    shame you didn't do wrist shots for both of them… but the lume on the omega is insane.

      Hi JBO, I have separate full-lenth showcase videos for both watches in which I do show wrist shots of each model. If you search our channel, you will find several Deepsea and PloProf videos in which I wear the watches.

      Yeah, it was that kind of day with the audio :-( The PloProf was sold as I filmed, and I had to post what I'd taped or lose the comparison opportunity.

    These two diver's watches are very expensive but don't have any life-saving features like rapid ascent alarm to warn the owner against nitrogen toxicity, depth measurements to notify the owner how many meters or feet he is descending, and water temperature to warn if the water can precipitate frost bite particularly in the polar regions. You are paying thousands of dollars for a wrist watch without useful features. At least CITIZEN and SEIKO possess these superb functions and can educate a good diver.

    I love omega and Rolex but in this case the deepsea is more refined and wearable. The omega is just strident up Seiko Tuna like

    unless one has seen and worn the ploprof in person they cannot call it ugly.

    • @the1916company
      @the1916company  7 років тому +1

      I'll say this; appearance aside, it's more compact over the wrist than it appears. It's more wide lengthwise than tall from lug-to-lug.

      Tim

    • @allydea
      @allydea 7 років тому +2

      Fully agree. First time I saw it I thought it was ugly too, but 1 year later it was my favorite watch. The Ploprof is an acquired taste.

    • @highnrising
      @highnrising 7 років тому +2

      The concept of ugly doesn't apply.
      Is a jackhammer ugly? Not if you need to use a jackhammer.
      It's a piece of equipment.
      If I was planning on going a quarter of a mile deep under water, I'd want that Omega. But I'd look to see if I could borrow it or rent it.

    Why would a serious dive watch need a date?

    • @the1916company
      @the1916company  7 років тому

      No, but this has been the case on many serious divers from the original 1665 Sea-Dwellers to the first Seamaster 600M "PloProf," so at least the date is historically correct on both modern versions.

    All this stuff about deep 300m + depth ratings for dive watches is just ridiculous, any diver will tell you that the maximum advised depth breathing air is around 50m depending if you believe US Navy deco tables, BSAC, CMAS, SSI or PADI information. The fact is that you will become thoroughly dead through poor decisions made under narcosis or through oxygen toxicity if you were to greatly exceed these recommended depths. If you were to venture much beyond 30 - 40m, deviated from you`re diveplan, and had to calculate no decompression limit bottom time with a depth gauge and a wristwatch you will run out of gas before you finish the calculation. We all use dive computers now because divers generally don`t do square dive profiles, its not just the elapsed time that's important its the amount of nitrogen absorbed by the body and that is dependant on depth as well as time so this makes this type of watch an expensive toy.
    These are not `tool watches` they are all fluff and wank. I don`t even see much design elegance here, they are a solution to a problem that does not exist. The helium escape valve is only of use to saturation divers, a minute % of the diving population and their limits are controlled by another person mixing their breathing gases based on board the dive boat. Having said that the Omega lume and bracelet is quite impressive, I`ve always thought Rolexes of this type are `under braceleted` compared to the size of the case.

    NICK HAYEK of SWATCH GROUP is very desperate of the declining worldwide sales of Swiss watches. He is very hopeful his company will rebound from income losses this 2017.

    Rolex looks boring compared to omega

  • @bingcrosby1378
    @bingcrosby1378 7 років тому +3

    This comparison is moronic, the Omega Seamaster is a profesional tool not something u want to wear at work or in a non-diving situation, the Rolex Seadweller has much better style and its wearble anytime, 007 used to wear a Submariner (the smaller cousin of the Seadweller) with tuxedo.

      And your opinion comes from a poll of 3 individuals who work at a Rolex Boutique.
      I like Rolex as a brand but only there divers for watches. The Ploprof is a wearable and remains true to the term "tool watch". Seems to me that was the same term used for their sports watches in from the 50's to the late 70's.
