Have a couple hundred dives (max 40m) on my 1998 Submariner. Used to be my one and only watch for about 10 years, now I wear it mainly when I go diving. Not that I need it (dive computer does a better job) but because of the good all times (21 years now) and the way it feels to have it back on my wrist 😀

  • @mfux8mo2

I’m a well experienced diver , went diving on many sites , and never wore a Rolex Sub ceramic which is my own watch. Long story short , was diving in SEA , in Malaysia where the South China Sea is ,that day , before initiating the dive , I checked all the instruments and they were working properly. However I had a gut feeling myself so I decided to bring with me also my Rolex Sub in ceramic strapped to my other wrist. While reaching 60 meters of depth , my diving computer started to have a malfunction (I thought you gotta be f**ing kidding me?!) fortunately I also timed the dive on the sub ceramic before initiating the dive. I used my Rolex to time decompression stops and re-emerge on the surface , I am alive today to post this message thanks to my Rolex sub which helped me survive without causing my blood to boil if I was emerging too fast. The watch still ticks to this day.

I read the comments here and as always with the subject Rolex, there are the different fan groups. I am happy that Rolex, Omega and others make great watches. I worked for one of the groups and I can tell you, that the atmosphere was always that of a lot of respect for each other and the products. A gentleman's rivalry. It was also this sporty rivalry that gave the world some of the best watches.

The bracelet’s guidelock on the Deepsea is truly fantastic, so easy to adjust, and when travelling facilitates easy/quick adjustments for expanstion of the wrist that’s enevitable at high altitudes or going from cold to hot/hot to cold climates. Definitely the main feature of the watch that’s indigenous to the deepsea that’s rarely called out but yet so innovative, reliable, easy to use and useful/practical. Love it !!

Hey guys. Not sure I should admit to this, but I own a DSSD and I don’t baby it - at all. I’ve taken it diving - both desk and ocean - running, mountain biking, camping. It’s my everyday watch and by that I don’t mean to sound snobby or anything - it took me a while to save up for it and I enjoy wearing a lot because it makes me smile.
My philosophy is if you’re going to spend your hard earned cash on a watch that has amazing build quality and you love it, why not enjoy as much as you can? Isn’t that the point of owning these time pieces? Because they make us happy; they pull at our heartstrings?
And just to be clear and safe, I bought an insurance policy on my DSSD because, hey, you never know...

I have a Sea-Dweller (1665) which was my 21st birthday present from my parents in 1977. I also have a GMT II (116710LN) - luxury purchase 10 years ago. I have some diving in the past (recreational stuff and used a Citizen Promaster Diver - didn’t want to scratch the Sea-Dweller ! )
Strange they bought me a Rolex as my Father was an Omega man, wearing the watch he was issued when he was in the Fleet Airarm (WWII) every day until his death in 2014 . (This watch was apparently ‘well worn’ so he had it serviced and recased, keeping the original white face, in 1956 by Dennison - done ‘privately’, after all, it was ‘his watch’ !) I am its custodian now - a prized possession !!

I want to buy one as a forever watch because it's weird, overkill, and obscure for a daily watch. Submariners are Hondas, then maybe Daytonas for as often as you see them out in the world. A Yacht-Master, that's rare, a Miligaus, or new Air King, same thing. If you're going to spend this kind of money, get something that's closer to one of a kind.

There is one key issue with all those Rolex achievements. Just as Aegler made all Rolex movements (based mostly on Lemania ebauches), It was "one of Rolex case suppliers", who made Submariner and Seadweller cases. Rolex didn't make anything till 2004 . Unlike Omega, they haven't invented anything. Their Suppliers and Sub-contractors "were tasked" with combining exististing technology in particular watch case production..
Besides ... Blancpain 50 Fathoms and Omega Seamaster, actually predated Rolex Submariner.

Steve Jordan the sub is a more elegant look and looks amazing under a bright light indoors. The feel of the 904l steel is significantly better than the 316l steel which omega(and every other luxury watch brand uses). 904l steel is technically weaker than 316 steel though lol) the bezel is way easier to turn. And the bezel does give off a lovely sparkly look dye to the jagged edges. Very accurate indeed some days gaining no time at all. This is just luck though of course. The glare on the dial is annoying as in direct light it can be difficult to see which is sad as the dial is beautiful.
The omega looks cooler as it is a sportier design. When outside the dial is stunning, much nicer than the Rolex. Movement is better of course, antimagnetic as well, testing of the movement is second to none you can even see your watch and results which Rolex don’t do. From conversations to people Rolex watches over time go outside of the superlative chronometer stats so no sure how reliable and trustworthy their claims are. I personally prefer the bracelet design and the glide clasp is better than the Rolex. Servicing is 10 years minimum so it’s a very solid movement omega have made massive strides forward with the master chronometer.
The omega is more exciting to look at but under certain lighting I would say the Rolex looks more beautiful with the white gold and deep black dial

Not another Rolex dive watch advertising video. It's boring they all look the same. It's a load of nonsense. How many Rolex's get more than a rinse under the tap? No one takes a Rolex proper Scuba diving. If you're doing anything bigger than a 20 meter dive you will be wearing a dive computer not some luxury antiquated watch worth more than the entire scuba kit you're wearing. Anyway didn't Blancpain invent the dive watch? Rolex just copied it. I'm not sure about the quality control on the font. Looks like it's not just GMT hands that have a QC problem.

Mark Michael I’m not sure about Blancpain. I would like to have a good look at one but they are so rare. I’ve heard they are very well made but they are very expensive. They did invent the dive watch though. I do think it’s silly to make watches that will still function after a humans skeleton is crushed by water pressure but some watches are a exercise in engineering rather than common sense. You can’t beat a normal Sub or Seamaster if you want a dive watch although I can see people starting to get bored with dive watches and constant retro style watches. Time will tell👍🏼
