  • The entire world's population gathers for a party, we need to "social distance", how much land would we need? What country, state, province or county could everyone fit into at 6 feet of distancing? Any guesses? I think the answer will surprise you!

Nice way to put it in perspective! Imagine how much more all the farming space that we need takes up...

That's a great illustration and very appropriate too. Back in the day I remember a similar illustration which stated that all the people in the world could be fitted on the ice on a single lake in Finland (where I live) and there'd be still room for them to move etc. These days I think they would a bit crowded, but then again in those freezing temperatures, it wouldn't be a bad thing!

This equation helped start a thought provoking discussion between my colleagues on the various detrimental effects of human culture and the preservation of nature. To sum it up, we thought it'd be an amazing feat if living nature was allowed to regain it's footing if humans were to all move to one area, for a decade or two. Although, to sustain humans at this magnitude would undoubtedly deplete our food source. Then again we thought of the New Caledonia crow that has shown a considerable amount of tool making intelligence. Perhaps these birds would become the next superior species to dominate the Earth within a mere century, if left alone from predators and human contamination.

That sounds awesome, I would love to see some kind of story or film on that. Reminds me of Darkwood

Glad it prompted some fun thinking Jeb. An unintended experiment was our Chernobyl disaster. You can see in the Netflix "Forests" doc, starting at about the 4 1 : 1 7 mark.

Nice Rose, your ravens call to warn you of rain? Mine scream and run (actually fly) away rather quickly!

Yeah and if climate change would just hurry up think of the incredible farmland we'd have under the massive frozen peat regions of Canada and Siberia! Estimates figure 9.3 million square miles could be new agricultural growing regions by 2080. Now if all the people of the world can fit social distancing into the area quoted above, how much food could we grow on 9,300,000 square miles! : )

@@theravendiariesWouldn't be necessary because we'd have a lot less people to feed since they're all drowning on the coastlines.
