I just wanted to say how awesome it is that you write your opinions and feelings about the content your watching, and not blab over it every two seconds like so many reactors do. So much is lost, and missed when they do that, Your comments are deep, inteligent and relevant to the song. ... You're doing a great job, keep it up! 👍👍👍👍👍
Raphael Ravenscroft was a British musician, composer and author. He is best known for playing the saxophone riff on Gerry Rafferty's song "Baker Street".
I think this goes back to 1977. Man the 70s had so much good music. It was everywhere. Those were great days. In the town I lived, there was a Baker Street 2 blocks from where I worked. Baker street is one of those songs that grabs ya and never lets go. Simple song, with perfect vocals, and instrumentation that created magic. 500 years from now people will listen and say WOW. I see others have mentioned "Right Down the Line" as another great Rafferty song - yeah it is.
" Baker Street " is from his second solo album "City To City " and the song is named after a street in London . His old band before he went solo was called "Stealers Wheel ". You are so right Mia , his voice is so soothing and relaxing , then that Saxophone wakes you up a little Lol . Beautiful reaction as always and yes , you definitely said his name right!
On the radio a lot in '77, it had a singular uniqueness that made it possibly the most original and meaningful hit of the era. Man, can I relate to the character.
Oh so many memories hearing this wonderful song. I was about 18 or 19 and it reminds me of my first husband, who was a good guy, we were just too young. We were so spoilt for music back then.
Gerry Rafferty wrote the song and the brilliant sax is by Raphael Ravenscroft who did it for a standard session fee of £27. No royalties even though this became one of the most memorable sax breaks of all time
Same thing happened to the guitarist who played the James Bond theme. Although he didn't get any royalties I'm sure Raphael Ravenscroft got a lot of work as a result of his playing on Baker Street.
"You used to think that it was so easy, but you're tryin, you're tryin now!" Those lyrics are about as universally prescient and haunting as they come. It forces regret infused nostalgia from the time when we were young and saw adult wankers doing quite well so we assumed we would sail blithely through life with one resounding success after another. How naive! We're tryin now!
to me it speaks of how some are lucky enough to find the one path in life that they are happy with, and they stick with it, but others are always moving from one job to the next, one relationship to the next, always restless and never staying in one place. the character in the lyrics is one of those people who just can't put down roots or commit to anything, although he yearns to do so.
Hi Mia! Nice to see you again! That was an awesome reaction to an awesome song! I've always liked this song since I was a kid. I'm not familiar with his other solo songs, but if you react to them, I will listen to them! I do know that before he went solo, he was in a band called Stealer's Wheel, which had a hit song called "Stuck In The Middle With You", which has been in different movies. It would be cool if you could react to that.
This video used the 7" single / radio edit which cut out a lot of the sax. Check out the longer version from the "City to City" album... lots more sax!!!!
Your pronunciation of his name was on point honey!! You should have watched the LP version of this song!! You can truly appreciate the musicality of the song so much more!!
The voice, the story, the arrangement of the musical instrument's. Sweet choice my dear. I believe you'll enjoy. Excellent pick. Note: matching names. Hey Chicago t shirt flag? Hey now!!!❤
Funny thing about this song, Mia..Sherlock Holmes lived on Baker street. And like the lyrics, he was a night roamer, womanizer, drinker and opium user, always restless without a case, often talked to Watson of "Giving up this sordid life and buying a country farm house somewhere". May be coincidental on Rafferty's part, but who knows. Either way, killer sax, guitar and cool groove --we loved it, all over the radio pop and rock stations, Big number 1.
As many have said, his previous band was "Steelers Wheel", Before that he was in another band called "The Humblebums", a folk/rock set with his Great friend and fellow Glasgow native, Billy Connolly. Try and see an interview of the two together, believe me his singing voice is so different from his speaking voice, especially with a fellow Glaswegian !!
Another great Scottish singer song writer you should listen to another Scottish singer who was a very good friend of Gerry's called Frankie Miller and his song called ( Darlin )
u tuned in well 2 vis ole song mia, yeah a modern classic, big hit n played i v pubs a decade later, we all knew v words n wood sing along on a fri nte. sad song, yeah composed n played wel, sax quite distintive
Great reaction! I think of 9/11 when I hear "Baker Street." The haunting, huge sax solo reminds me of the planes hitting the Twin Towers in those giant explosions. Or a nuclear apocalypse. This music and lyrics is the sound of tragedy. This music is the sound of fear, pain and suffering. Especially fear.
'City to City' should have broke Gerry in America, but he's total reluctance to be a star scuppered it. He was about the music first. But he was a legendary songwriter far beyond this. In later years disputes arose about who exactly penned the notes in that saxophone solo - but it is present in Gerry's demo. As his old collaborator, Billy Connolly, later said 'I bet he wrote every note of that song...'
Your pause was nearly perfect but you stopped it just before the very last word of the lyrics so I don't know that you understood that he was happy at the end because he was going home.
Mis please! If de cartoon Tom and Jerry is pronounced Je, the name Gerry can' t be spelt the same. It's a Gu sound! Many floggers make this mistake. I'm Dutch and English is not my native tong.....!

Shivers every time that guitar solo kicks in
The guitar playing is always under valued, yet so very powerful!
Agreed! The sax is iconic, but that guitar solo is the star of the show - for me!
It is 2024 and this song has 💯held the test of time! Still a Relaxing Jam! 🎷🔥🙏🏻
One of my all time favourite songs and certainly one of the best to come out of the 70's
This dropped when I was in 6th grade. Such an amazing time and music. Brings back great memories🎼🔥
On the radio a lot in '77, it had a singular uniqueness that made it possibly the most original and meaningful hit of the era. Man, can I relate to the character.
You'll also love his song "Right Down The Line" where he thanks his woman for being by his side "right down the line".
Its such a cool song
C'mon the lyrics.... "When you thought it held everything"... "He's rolling, he's the rolling stone". This song is PERFECT.
Great reaction. Perceptive and positive. Your written comments really complement the music. Thanks.
Oh so many memories hearing this wonderful song. I was about 18 or 19 and it reminds me of my first husband, who was a good guy, we were just too young. We were so spoilt for music back then.
“Right down the line” is a good one.

And the guitar riff is brilliant too.
Gerry wrote the sax melody though. The man was a genius.
Same thing happened to the guitarist who played the James Bond theme. Although he didn't get any royalties I'm sure Raphael Ravenscroft got a lot of work as a result of his playing on Baker Street.
Not Bob Holness
@@alundavies1016A strange urban myth
My old time favorite song ever. There are many greats but this iPhone is special to me personally. A product from a better times.
Baker Street is a great vibe song. All the musicians do their thing. Have a great day honey 🍯

Yea, that moment hits you like a freight train in the chest when you realize it don't just happen, you actually gotta go get it 😬
After all these years.....such an amazing song, great voice

This song is fantastic
Wow... You do take me back to my youth... Haven't heard this in years... Thank you...
Guaranteed to have me turn up the radio and just chill. Gerry is brilliant but that Sax is truly amazing
I’ve always loved this song but I didn’t know who sang it until the last several years.
Great reaction as always!!! Glad you’re back!!!
Fantastic song real classic
A sound that puts you in that place every single time.
Gerry Rafferty. An absolutely fantastic singer / songwriter. His catalogue of songs is incredible. A true master of his art. Try.... Night Owl.....
Earlier he was in Steelers Wheel. Check out Stuck in the Middle With You.
Very good reaction. Analysis of the vocals, construction, and sax.

Dig the subtitles, you share your thoughts without stopping the song.

This peaceful soul sang "Stuck in the middle with you" (Stealer's Wheel song) from the Reservoir Dogs movie when they cut off the cop's ear.
The voice, the story, the arrangement of the musical instrument's. Sweet choice my dear. I believe you'll enjoy. Excellent pick. Note: matching names. Hey Chicago t shirt flag? Hey now!!!❤
Enjoyed your reaction / appreciation for a truly special song.
Your writing saying that just the intro was awesome was awesome!
Yeah that's a classic
Goosebumps again, 🥺🙄🙂💛🙏💌
For many years I didn't like this song, then I watched the video for the first time. Liked it from then on.
Always a trip down memory lane with you Miaaa.👣👣
It`s the best of any time.
Sherlock Holmes lived at 221B Baker Street.
Doctor Strange lived at 177A Bleecker St
Rafferty wrote the song and the saxophone solo

Great reaction to one of my favorite songs. Much ❤ Mia
Great tune
Another recommendation I would give you is YES- Roundabout. It's a definite banger!!
Please react to Lady by Kenny Rogers. You’ll definitely dig his voice and the beautiful love song.
Baker Street was my very first 45 RPM record I bought.
Great pick! Hadn't heard in awhile. Great background by the way. 😃
This whole album is a pretty good listen.
Love your channel, Do It Miaaaa!

you should also react to his song 'waiting for the day' - closing track to this album. killer guitar work.
Hi Ms. Mia., Just a great song.. ♠Mr.G..
Awesome 👌 👏 👍 😮

Check out his song "Get it right next time"
❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Check out Stealers Wheel's "Stuck in the middle with you."
So You have to do the other similar genious huge rich hymn of the 70s:
"Year of the cat" by Al Stewart.
Mia you really want something to react to?! Focus- Hocus pocus, on The midnight special!! I believe your reaction will be something!!
There is a longer version with more sax on it
Great quality video. If you like Scottish singers try Paolo Nutini’s ‘Everywhere’ live version.
It is loosely based on true events. Baker Street is in London England.
That's like saying New York, USA. Most know where London is. :D
🤘🇬🇧
I enjoyed you
He was a musical genius and taken way too soon, check out, 'Get It Right Next Time or 'Night Owl'
hi, I'm from Brazil and I like your reaction, please react to Gabriel Henrique feeling good, a hug.
Your pause was nearly perfect but you stopped it just before the very last word of the lyrics so I don't know that you understood that he was happy at the end because he was going home.

@@henrijansen4224Like "Gary"...
@@Romiman1 Yes like Gary, only you write it different.
@@henrijansen4224 But being related to his full name "Gerald", shouldn't it be spoken like Jerry...?
@@Romiman1That's true, Gerald is pronounced that way. It's quiet confusing how you pronounce it. That's for sure!
Just wish Gerry never took up the booze
Unfortunately he died not long ago..... what a loss 🏴
