I'll second that! I do believe we are very fortunate to have experienced so much great music in our growing years. It's always been a HUGE part of our lives! I feel bad that kids aren't eager to learn to play instruments now.
One of the most underrated songs in rock in my opinion. The sax and drums and the guitar solo at the end and sublime vocals throughout make it one of the greatest.
Love this song. Especially the sax solo. In 1972 Gerry Rafferty was in the Scottish folk rock band Stealers Wheel & had a big hit with "Stuck In The Middle With You". Later on, he went out on his own & then had the big hits "Baker's Street", "Right Down The Line" & "Night Owl".
What a fantastic first time hearing Gerry Rafferty reaction. You were almost there there with your lyric reaction too. This is the age old story of heading for the big city lights, falling in to an abusive relationship and heading home. Gerry had serious difficulty with his drinking, and sadly was lost too soon. Despite that he will always remain a Scottish music legend.
I was in a band when this came out and we covered it. But no one could play the sax. So my brother went to a sax teacher and learned how to play it. It took him 3 weeks and was the only song he ever learned on the saxophone.
Thanks, Mugnify - this is a nostalgic song for me.. so beautiful.. it represented "freedom" when I was eighteen, leaving work on a Friday afternoon.. out a little early.. paycheck cashed..driving along the Milwaukee lakefront on my way home (windows down, radio up...).. my whole weekend ahead (and although I wasn't thinking that far ahead.. my whole life - lol).. Others will tell you about Gerry... (he was a vocalist/guitarist - not the sax player - but brilliant songwriter) appreciate your reactions..
I'm an older white guy, but I recently joined the channel and you're responses are great. Thank you for what you do. I can recommend songs, but I like what you find. Take care. Thumbs up! Can't wait for your next review.
Don't ever apologize for pausing We have heard this song a hundred times We are here to see what YOU think of it and we are here to see your reaction. Great reaction by the way.
Groovy Bongo Beats, Sweet Sounds of the Flute, Smokin Hot Guitar, Smooth Vocals and The Sax hitting you right in the Soul! This is EXACTLY why this is my all Time Favorite Song and I am a Rocker Whole Heartedly!
Raphael Ravenscroft (4 June 1954 - 19 October 2014) was a British musician, composer and author. He is best known for playing the saxophone riff on Gerry Rafferty's song "Baker Street".
One of my all-time favourites and, for me, one of your most engaging reactions. Thanks for your expertise and for sharing your emotional connection to music. Looking forward to your next upload ❤🇬🇧
This is one of my favorites. I was born in ‘77. We had music in house all the time. My mom actually had this vinyl. We listen to it all the time. Awesome interpretation of the song.
I love your reaction man.... I'm a 70 year old guy who was around when this came out. And you ask if he has more... He has LOADS more. I think that for a buch of white dudes from Glasgow in Scotland they had a lot of soul... We British we very good at taking the pioneers of blues and what I would call rhythm and blues (not what the kids today call R&B - The real stuff)... and then we put our own filter n it and fed it right back to you... from The Beatles and Stones all the way on up... Keep on Rocking.
My take on this song; small town girl goes to big city with a reputation (the city, not her), tries to make it work; finds a few people she clicks with, but only partially... then she finally comes to the conclusion that going to the soul-less city didn't meet her needs and goes back home. This is a soundrack of an attempt at something that ended in failure. That said, the sound of this song is spectacular.
Baker Street is a street in central London, and the street where the fictional Sherlock Holmes lived. The video includes some footage of Baker Street in the 1970s, when this track was made.
There are two different saxophonists on the track. The 8 bar riff is played by session musician Raphael Ravenscroft and was written by Gerry Rafferty. The main solo is written and played by Hugh Burns. Unfortunately, due to Ravenscroft lying about how much he influenced or wrote for saxophone in this production, most people think he does all of the saxophone part.
When the band showed up at the studio to record this song, their guitar player never arrived. They couldn’t get their money back for the studio, so they went looking around the building for another guitar player. But s they could come up with was a saxophone player. They gave the guy a check for thirty pounds to play on this song. (And the check bounced.)
I'm usually most into the guitar and piano bc those are my instruments, but man there was some gorgeous saxophone in the 70s and 80s. Another that sounds like this time period/style: Gary Wright - Love Is Alive - no horns but it's a such a great groove. He's the guy who did Dream Weaver
I was going to recommend this but forgot, great song in all ways. Story telling at it's best. His words flow like he is talking to someone. I love the Sax too. Great reaction. Sometimes I think you must have been in the music business.
Great reaction my man !……I don’t think you have reacted to “Year of the Cat” by Al Stewart……another BANGER 70’s compositional classic masterpiece !……you’ll love it !
Hi Gerry Rafferty was a great artist from glasgow who before he went solo he had a band called the humblebums with comedian Billy Conelly I know this because my family had a night club that had them there, sadly he is loving gone the drink get him shame
The kids who survived WWII became musically prolific and talented, as the renaissance painters, sculptors and musicians Maybe similar to the massive talent that evolved in the descendants of slaves a few decades earlier
Hi there. There's some really great songs on your channel. You might want to give "THE ARK" track,.. a try out by Gerry Rafferty on his "City to City Album". It was one of his top 5s of all time !!! ☝️😄👉💥💥💥👈😄👆
You've got to admit, the music we older people had was not bad. Not bad at all. I so love being a boomer.
I think have seen the golden age of entertainment, movies and music has all peaked
I'll second that! I do believe we are very fortunate to have experienced so much great music in our growing years. It's always been a HUGE part of our lives! I feel bad that kids aren't eager to learn to play instruments now.
I agree, as a Gen Xer XD
Me too. I love being a boomer.
That’s was i wanted to write ! Boomers were very good in music.❤

Great reaction. He was basically singing about himself.
Sadly, you’ve hit the nail on the head. And it breaks my heart. Some people drink to remember. Others drink to forget.
never get tired of listen to it.

Great artist great lyrics, and a sax!
Prolific artist and songwriter and so underrated. RIP Gerry.
Gerry Rafferty with Stealers Wheel doing "Stuck in the Middle with You" is another Legendary song

Simply amazed he grew up in my home town. Legend.

It’s been years since I’ve heard this great song, how I’ve missed these tunes of the 70’s
Great song. I also love the little accordion parts like 2.51.
This song is an absolute JAM! Think I had the 45 when I was a kid in the 70’s. Love to see people react to masterpieces like this. Go on my brother!
Just an unreal song, everything about it melancholy perfection
Love it, great sax, great singing, great song.

We Scot’s have been lucky to have so many great musicians
60's,70's,80's, best decades for British music...
This is one of my favorites. I was born in ‘77. We had music in house all the time. My mom actually had this vinyl. We listen to it all the time.
Awesome interpretation of the song.

Yeah, great track. True masterpiece of modern music
What a great song. I have heard this song many times. I never get tired of hearing it. It calms you and beautiful words.
@@amauryegazarain3890 It never gets old, does it? I've been listening to it since it first came out.. Aug'24.. UK. E ♥️

Perfection!! 🔥
I bought this in 8 track format in ‘77. The album song tracks are extraordinary!
Great song! Good job!!
The bands back in the day were good musicians.
🙏❤🌹 Gerry 🌹❤🙏
I'm not sure when I first heard Baker Street but I remember that sax hook from way back, peace and positivity to everyone.
Oh I love this song so much❤

The song is great but the sax is what I love the most

Pink Floyd - Money!
Do a deep dive into Gerry. He will not disappoint.
That’s a bad ass song! Always has been
Love this song, my teenager can play the sax part.
I love this album
1978 was a good year for music. Have you heard Year of the Cat by Al Stewart?
😊boomers ROCKED!
I was going to recommend this but forgot, great song in all ways. Story telling at it's best. His words flow like he is talking to someone. I love the Sax too. Great reaction. Sometimes I think you must have been in the music business.
Check out "Stuck in the Middle with You" which Gerry recorded with his band, Stealer's Wheel.

Great reaction my man !……I don’t think you have reacted to “Year of the Cat” by Al Stewart……another BANGER 70’s compositional classic masterpiece !……you’ll love it !
Probably the best pop song of the 70s
This could be Jerry's own story.
You should check out his track , Night owl , absolutely awesome !!
That was the saxiest song I ever heard.
Dimash SOS will blow your mind
That’s was my first reaction to him
Hi Gerry Rafferty was a great artist from glasgow who before he went solo he had a band called the humblebums with comedian Billy Conelly I know this because my family had a night club that had them there, sadly he is loving gone the drink get him shame

Heard it first in 1977 on a juke box
New to your channel.I appreciate you reacting to 70s-80s.dunno if you reacted to this but Urgent by Foreigner. The sax solo in it is 🔥

The kids who survived WWII became musically prolific and talented, as the renaissance painters, sculptors and musicians
Maybe similar to the massive talent that evolved in the descendants of slaves a few decades earlier
its NOT a drumpad ... it is a REAL drum set
Listen to his song Nightowl, long version is over 6 minutes long but worth it. Trust me
Bit of a Pink Floyd lead break at the end
please listen to Oh Holy Night by David Phelps (Live Bill Gaither choir)
Great song. Grew up wondering where the hell is Baker Street?
I always presumed that it was the one in London, you know, the one the Sherlock Holmes lived on.
the saxaphone player.... Raphael Ravenscroft
Go ahead and close your eyes and bob along dude. I have to. Lol
Is that a saxophone doing that? 😂😂😂
Hi there. There's some really great songs on your channel.
