Dude many people do live below Sydney in Australia and appreciate heated steering wheels. VW T-Roc shares this platform with other non Seat VW products and a 2.0 turbo four delivering only 140kw in 2022 is a detuned marketing special - all are Golf related.
My good mate in Germany test drove the 228kw version in Munich last year. He said it was nuts!🤪😈 Unfortunately he had to be the practical family man & chose the Audi Q3. His boss went for the Formentor! 🚀🤣
Mate. There are other places in Australia that are not Sydeney. Most of which don't require heated steering wheels. Even Canberra in Winter frosty mornings drivers never require a HST. Heated seat are a bonus, but cooled are a necessity beyond Opera's House.
I live in Canberra and will most definitely appreciate a heated steering wheel in winter. I used to have to wear gloves to drive to work at 6AM so my hands would actually function enough to drive a car.
@@mitchjames9350 Australian pricing has been out for about a week. It came out at $61,490. Much cheaper than the Tiguan, which was 69,990 before it lost its premium sound system and dropped to 68,990.
We're Australian. That's just how we speak. Sure the cape in Mallorca is proounced Formentor, but Australian accents drop or and er at the end of words.
@@InvaderZim742 I think you've misunderstood. I'm Australian too. I'm not pronouncing it with a hard R at the end, I'm pronouncing it the same way that the British reviewers have been saying it, with more emphasis on the final syllable. formenTOR, not "Formenter".
So if you're not "straddling the line between Millenial and Genz" then this may not be for you as its too tech laden. What a load of condescending ****. Speaking as a Generation X person I have no problem whatsoever with the tech in my Formentor tyvm. When it actually works, of course!!
I think it will be the other way around. Its going to be the VW/Audi/Skoda buyer who will look at it as something more special and it will nab a few BMW and MB customers along too. They aren't chasing massive volumes.
Hmmmmmm... design is boring and has been overdone for the last 10 years. They basically just added nice Led lights to a very basic looking suv. Not sure why this guy seems so impressed by its looks, has he been living under a rock?
The Cupra Australia boss has already said the most expensive option will be the PHEV and that will be high 60's with all the extras ticked. The 228kw model will be low 60's plus on roads,.
This review highlights pretty much everything wrong with cars coming into Australia. No need for a heated steering wheel because of Sydney's climate. If these clowns are only designing cars for Sydney they deserve to fail.
you know it has a switch to turn it on and off right? Any decent car worth its salt should have a heated steering wheel. Canberra drivers will definitely appreciate it.
Strange… we have it in New Zealand and for sometime, this car starts at $55k with AWD and a good spec. Guess it would be the same if not less in AU.

I'll be getting the 228k formy, if you feel like being boring it has a comfort drive mode.
Its awesome to see that Europe is coming to Australia in bigger numbers. New Peugeot 408 also looks great!

Built by vw group... Good luck with your resell even if it doesn't break in 3 years
Meh.
There were also times when the script sounded like it was lifted straight from the marketing blurb.
Tiguan R is 68,990 here in Oz, they have to be mad to price the 228kw Formentor anywhere close to it.
Estimates for the PHEV model are 64k, 228kw should come in just under that.
Best bet is look at its price in New Zealand where it’s already being sold.

Lol you can’t even get a new golf GTI for that. New R will be 80+ OR
@@DS-en4et What are you on about? The 2022 Golf R is $65,990 + OR
I would like to get one and the missus is happy with it as well, just worried about fitting a pram and baby stuff in the boot.
I've been looking forward to this one
me too
You came half way round the world to test a car with a weedy engine when there's a 310 bhp version available? Which I have by the way. Lol.
Love this review, where will we be able to test drive in AUS?
The brand is launching in a few months - we'll update you on the CarsGuide site with more details soon!
What is the name of this color
Spoiler: it's a VW Tiguan.
Sooo keen for this!
Formentor is clearly bigger then Kona. Formentor is size of the Tucson.
Is anyone else bothered that he keeps saying "Formenter" instead of "Formentor"?
Yep. First thing I noticed. Should at least get the name of the car right!
Omg yes! Formenta huh?
Straya 🤣

I think comparing it to the X4 than the X6 would've been better?
More like X2 if you ask me..
@@gliazzurra Yup, agreed. Was reading up on the dimensions so closer to an X2 and is basically a Tiguan underneath.
Great stuff
Australia - the natural dumping ground for petrol car in 2022 👍👍👍
As soon as you mentioned VW and the adverts started time to leave bye.
Hard pass on those wheels... looks good otherwise. But if the build is similar to other VW group cars, I'll skip
There's quite a few wheel options. Those are probably the worst. The 19 inch ones the top spec model comes with look good on the car.
@@InvaderZim742 These are 19" too but quite sure nobody picks them. There are two options that look way better.
You can get a Polestar for the same price!!
but why would you? You can get an MG EV for much less. But this is a far better car.
Looks good, but those wheels just look like they have rust on them...

Won’t sell in Australia, to many better brands to choose from

Australia is the perfect market for it. VW are extremely popular here. And this is imo a better looking version of T-Roc/ Golf R, Tiguan Hybrid.
@@InvaderZim742 310 HP version is as quick as Macan GTS for less than half the price.
@@melluzi The Macan S, according to my googling skills. Which is about $120k drive away, compared to $66k for the cupra
@@InvaderZim742 Probably depends on country. Here that would be €105k and €46k respectively for fully packed Cupra.

40,000 EUR is about $60,000 AUD.
Add $5k Australia Tax and then another $2-3k in onroads.
Don't be surprised if this is $70,000 when it lands.

Interior and wheels looks cheap, that tablet screen, so cheap.
Right?! Was excited to check this out, but looks super cheap. :(

We'll need it in Melbourne for icy 1-5 degree mornings
Just when I thought ugly wheels couldn't get uglier!
