  • I redesigned my tool storage system and tool deployment workflow. In this video we take a look at how the Milwaukee Packout Drawers are game changers from an efficiency and ease of use perspective. I show how I'm utilizing a folding ramp now with my van as a part of my system for getting in and out of my van as well as moving tool boxes around. Hope you enjoy the video.

Excellent system! Man - to save half an hour + and all the energy carrying when packing up at the end of the day, when you’re dragging butt anyway - that is a game changer.

This guy is just amazing... Such a great mentor for anyone willing to learn and it's free. And the way he puts the videos together seamlessly and seems as if he does very little editing. I love organization, probably because my parents aren't, and I've just become like them and struggling to change with nowhere to look for encouragement but here I find it. And a like minded person, who's changing the game in so many ways. You should be EXTREMELY proud of yourself and thank you for your help. I hope someday, after 20 years of building and doing it all, I can be as organized and have a nice can/truck, tools, house, business of my own. I fell of track ten years ago and I have to say it's been hard to find encouragement but I find it here so thankyou so much! Keep up the great work, God bless!

5 minutes to deploy all your tools you've mitigated time loss to a minimum, now you set like a jello to hang a picture. Now seriously that's one of the better van setups I've seen in my 35 years as a carpenter well done.

I'm jealous After 40 years of sloshing in the mud .Frying on a roof and trimming homes built by gorillas . I finally had a similar rig " not quite as sweet ".. Then had to sell it all after I caught a bad case of Stage 4 brain cancer . I'm jealous !! . Lol .. Do well young man

Compared to many out there, you should be truly proud of how you earned every dollar in those 40 years. The society often conveniently forgets to reward, in an equitable way, hard and dirty work. Wish you the Best in your life.

@@radchander Thanks . My Drs and nurses have fought hard for me . The cancer as of Nov is undetectable . Which is unbelievable . Sometimes I have wondered how my life might have turned out had a chosen a different path . Instead of smashing fingers and breaking my back . At the time in the early 80's . It was either wash dishes or make a few buck more a day humping lumber . Sometimes I have wondered why carpenters are seen as mere grunts . The only reason I think it is that way , Because seemingly everyone has done it , From installing a door knob to building a picnic table makes one expert . They see it as easy , Throughout my career . I have seen so many even on a job , "It's not that hard " and then you hand them the blueprints and they soon hand them back , Or you run into others that say " All you gotta do " . Then as you yourself do it , "See it wasn't that hard " they'll say .. to which I sarcastically think " Well I just might of got lucky again . .. Nah .. It couldn't have been all those years of knowing how wood reacts , how to perform magic , How to decipher plans , .. Just Luck . .. Seen too many that smash and hack , Painter needs a pallet of caulk .. I have alway been odd in many ways . I refuse to do things wrong . I will charge less if they allow me to build it better . Which is very odd to many " Wait a minute , You will build it better ? and charge us less ? .. What's the game ?" .. My reasoning has always been . If I ashamed and I cut corners . It will hurt me and is of less value to me and to you . . It's a great feeling to be paid , to be thanked and make lifelong friends with customers , Being picky and finding ways to do it ironically faster , cleaner , better is so much more pleasing . Personally I have seen too many ascend to the clouds after a few years of bending nails , They get out of the laboring part , The leadership part and become what I call " Windshield Carpenters " .. That drive up , hand out checks , tell you All you gotta do and drive off . I always saw a need for experienced carpenters to be on the job , and the highly experienced ones most importantly . To lead , To riddle out , To teach and to be there ..

    Great setup. But one suggestion:
Move the ramp to store at the back door. That way you are already standing on the ground when you set up the ramps. You never enter the van until the ramp is set

    • @hoangtruong6715

it might possible.. but i might not fit cause the hight might not possible to put it back there.

    • @dawsonpurkett7709
      @dawsonpurkett7709 2 роки тому +3

You could keep the ramp on the floor? Then when you open up the back, you just have to slide her out. If you need to move stuff without it, you could stand it on the ground and lean it where that miter saw stand lives.

I own a Finish Carpentry business in Michigan. About 4 months ago, I decided to put everything on wheels as well. I also bought a ramp... Love it all! I now have a Gorilla cart, I put my compressor and hand tools in, to get into the job site. ( I work out of a trailer with a ramp ) I use my metal folding ramp to get into the house. Real back saver if ya know what I mean. The older we get, the phrase, work smarter not harder, makes all kinds of sense. Really dig your idea for the Stabila storage. I've been trying to come up with something. You do good work and I like you are always trying to have a system, to get things done in a quick fashion. Keep up the great work!

Man, I agree with you so much on the benefits of the drawer system. I'm from a welding/fabrication trade where we go on site a lot and work so a traditional rig welder layout was not applicable for us. I got so tired of digging for tools in a bucket after carrying it to the destination. I immediately saw gains in productivity on job sites with the system.

When there's a "wheel", there's a way. Those bungee retainers and level cleats is definitely something I would do. Nice work Spence. Instead of the copper clamps (for bungees) you can get some PVC ones...and file/smooth out the inside edges on 'em.

I have 2 carts and we typically stack the almost 10 high. So 2 carts with 20 plus drawers. Thousands of tools in only a 3' × 1' space save not only time but space. Love your set up.

Great setup, the old saying work smarter not harder very much comes to mind! Worth spending time researching, designing and implementing things like this as they payback many times over what the initial cost of time/money was in better work flow, easier work, less stress and hassle and prolonging your body to allow you to work longer and better.
For the bolt for your ramp that looks like something that could easily be lost. What about gluing a rare earth magnet to the side of the truck inside near the back door so you have some place to put it or better still a small length of chain on it and the ramp so it is always there when you need it.
Only other things I could think of was installing a proper handle inside the van like you see in disabled toilets etc to pull yourself up with both at the side entrance and the back and then finally a sack trolley which is designed for stairs, they usually have 3 wheels each side v the normal one and can be motorised. Perhaps not the one you use every day but put in for when at jobs where you need to take your tools up stairs inside or outside.
I suppose one more thing to go along with your microwave would be the fridge/cooler pack out to keep food/drinks cold.
I really liked the simple level holding design, sometimes the simple things are the best.

Have to say that's a pretty awesome setup. I still have some wooden shelves and dividers in my sprinter. When I first started mine tstack and tough sys was all there was. I recently picked up the tough system wall mounts. Customized them for my van walls. Now just the tough system arms mount to the walls and my tough boxes slide and lock in. I still keep a few tstack. I really like the modular nature of yours. I may have to do some rebuilding now thanks.
I'm officially stealing your level wall hooks. Genius! I want to get ramp like that as well. Trying to figure out where to store it 🤔
I'm definitely looking at a transit as next truck. Once I removed my dpf and EGR on mine sprinter she's a dream reliable. Fast as well 😅. I like being able to carry 16&17 ft stock still with my pass through. I haven't measured inside transit yet
