So photonis echo isn't gen 2+? I have a echo tube from Steele industries. Really like it. Because I've been told they're gen 2+ and not as good as L3 or elbit
So, Photonis is technically not Gen 3, reason being is the material type the the tubes are made out of, the generational classification system was created by the DoD, and to be honest is not an accurate way to judge capability. I love Photonis personally, they have the best autogating tech in the industry and halo. The nightvision community, honestly like the firearm community is super toxic, most the dudes that drop 12-15K on L3 PVS-31A are the same dudes that only put 10 hours on them and never train with them, never use them, and have to justify the amount of money they spent by trash talking anyone else who didn't buy a set of 22UA L3 duals. Use em, enjoy them, best tool and toy I've ever bought
Sorry I ranted. So, both Elbit and L3 as Gen 3 tubes have typically higher gain and a little more sensitive photocathodes. So in super low light, the Gen 3 tubes are a little brighter, but not enough to really count, in situations like that you are going to suppliment ambient light with an IR illuminator. That being said, Photonis is a better all around mixed environment option, high light environments, urban lit areas, as well as suburban and rural, Photonis can do them all well as to where most Gen 3s don't do as well in high lit areas due to the higher sensitive photocathodes and higher gain, you are more likely to get temp burns on your tubes with the super gain tubes. People will argue it, and there is definitely some give either way, but I don't have the money to have the right tubes for any environment, in my personal opinion Photonis does them all well, especially high lit areas, Gen 3 do a little better in low light
@@dmaraschky1 yeah I have a photonis echo tube my specs for ny wp photonis echo is LP 68 SNR 30.92 EBI 0.19 and FOM 2101 . Which I have heard are pretty good specs for photonis . No the rant definitely helped me understand
I'm running a 2337 FOM Echo+ with 69 res and 33.87 SNR. It's an incredibly good unit and it gets extremely close to Gen 3. Generations don't matter much anymore with Photonis in the game.
At any price point, they offer about 70% of the gain of GaAs, but have much better mixed lighting performance of about 50 lp/mm vs 25 for GaAs. They also have deep extension into UV as far as the glass type allows, and well as deeper IR. Photonis is trying to make DoD worry about the enemy outfitting with an IR LED which can't be seen with GaAs. Everything about night vision at the moment is about extension of bandwidth into IR.
