I mean, who is she compared to a band as significant as Deep Purple, who she clearly does not have the requisite knowledge required for her to comment on with any credibility? A lot of her objections seem to be based on the amount of #1 singles they had; What has that got to do with rock n roll? Her claim that Runaway is the only Del Shannon song that anyone knows, further reveals her own shortcomings as a musical journalist.

Other DD songs that hit the Top 10 of the Album Rock charts include "Rio" (#5,) "Union Of The Snake" (#2,) "Is There Something I Should Know" (#3) and "New Moon On Monday" (#4.) You’re absolutely right about The Guess Who. Those guys had many classic hits, and then went on to create other rock classics in bands like BTO. Too many to be ignored

The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive should both be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Maybe they should just change it to "The Music Hall Of Fame".
I apologise in advanced if the article wasn't written by an American, but saying that Deep Purple don't belong in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is ludicrous. It's the sort of thing that only an American would say whilst praising many an American band that most of the world have never heard of. A copy of their counterparts? I'd love to know which bands the idiot of a writer was referring to. Purple feature musicians at the top of their craft. The opening chords of Smoke on the Water are probably played by most guitarists when they first pick up a guitar. The band have inspired more young musicians over the years than almost any other band. Of the 'album' bands, Purple are alongside Zeppelin and Sabbath.
Deep Purple still to this day is very highly regarded in the US. And I dont think the article was all pro US, otherwise Alice Cooper for example would not have made this silly list.
My alphabetical (like the website) list of 54 acts not in the RARHOF could go down by three: Ambrosia, America, The B-52’s, Bad Company, Badfinger, Bjork, Blood Sweat & Tears, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Bread, The Charlatans UK, Devo, Dick Dale, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Brian Eno, Foreigner (nominated), Free, Grand Funk Railroad, The Grass Roots, The Guess Who, Humble Pie, Ian Hunter, INXS, Tommy James & The Shondells, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Kool & The Gang (nominated), Love, Don McLean, Mott The Hoople, Harry Nilsson, Oasis (nominated), The Ohio Players, Peter Paul & Mary, Procol Harum, Paul Rodgers, Simple Minds, Sparks, Steppenwolf, Supertramp, Sweet, 10cc, Tears For Fears, Television, Thin Lizzy, Three Dog Night, Tower Of Power, Vangelis, War, Edgar Winter, X, Weird Al Yankovic, and Warren Zevon. Will any of the other 51 even get nominated, let alone inducted?
Laura Nyro "probably influenced more successful songwriters than anyone" Elton John 2007. Nyro's 1968 album, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession, "blew everybody's mind " Todd Rundgren. Nyro's album is arguably the first progressive conceptual album in pop/ rock and influenced scores of artists such as Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, Elton John, Peter Buck (REM). Paul Stanley is a huge Nyro fan, and Eli is Paul Schaeffer's (David Letterman band leader) desert island disc. Nyro is also a big influence on the great musical theatre composer, Stephen Schwartz ( eg Wicked). Nyro was David Geffen's first artist under management. He considered her the best. By 1969, she had made him a millionaire twice over.
I think I got to me, too, is when they mention the personal lives of certain people in these bands. That has nothing to do with whether or not not a band belongs in a Hall of Fame or not. It’s the music and what it means to people.💁🏻♀️
Here are some bands I think deserve to be in: The Flaming Lips - a band who literally put Neo Psych & experimental music on the map. Best selling albums in Yoshimi & Soft Bulletin too. Sparks - one of the most influential cult bands ever. Many of the more recent artists in were inspired by them. Modest Mouse - one of the most important alternative rock bands of the late 90s & 2000s. Super influential and popular. They still sell out tours today. Grand Funk Railroad - the seminal 1970s hard rock band. Millions of units moved and still popular today. The Spencer Davis Group - Literally launched the career of Steve Winwood who would go on to Traffic & Blind Faith. The Monkees - a very important 60s band who had super talented songwriters and are still beloved today. The Guess Who - Canada’s biggest band imo. They put that style of bluesy rock on the map.
I'm pretty sure that I've bought enough rock LPs, cassettes, 8-tracks, CDs, DVDs, from 1966 to present day, and spent most of my life listening to them, that I should be in the R&R Hall of Fame myself. ;-)
That is the worst list I have ever seen in 30 years of reading music lists online. That list genuinely made me angry, and I never get mad at lists. It just angers me that we have people that stupid that can post their nonsense on the internet for all to read. And that bullshit like that actually gets published. I’ve never drank a sip of alcohol in my life, but O may need to join you in a glass of wine after watching that list reaction lol.
Deep Purple in 1973 was the biggest band in the world. In lps sold and gate receipts on tours. Sold over 130m lps. Deep Purple In Rock 1970 was the record that started metal with Sabbath. Rush no better 3 musicians in any rock band.
Is this Amber woman serious. Deep Purple, Queen, Genesis, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson, AC/D, Aerosmith!!! Blimey if you had gone on much further I think she would have mentioned The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen nd The Stones. 🤣🤣
Jerry Lee Lewis was on this list?!? Holy hell, Jerry Lee Lewis ***IS*** rock and roll! In fact, the only artist who is more rock and roll than Jerry Lee would be Little Richard.
I think talking about the RRHOF gives it more legitimacy than it deserves. It's been a meaningless joke for many years now. I wish the great groups of the past such as Beatles, Who, Zep, etc wouldn't have accepted and thus giving their tacit endorsement of the institution. That said, I've been there and the museum is great. I saw John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls Royce there. That was a part of a non permanent exhibit about the psychedelic age of music so don't go expecting to see it now.
Jethro Tull, Squeeze (called the Lennon-McCartney of New Wave), Leslie Gore, Blood Sweat & Tears are a few of the ones I don't understand being overlooked. Some sixties pop rock bands that filled our radio nights like Paul Revere & the Raiders and Herman's Hermits. There are some folk artists in the Hall already, so I would think Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Gordon Lightfoot, Melanie and The Seekers should be considered. But no one talks about the non-performers that have been overlooked. Writers, producers and sidemen. Sloan & Barri, Bob Crewe, Tony Hatch, Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, Roy Halee, Graham Gouldman, Phil Ramone and Linzer & Randall. overlooked. Writers, producers and sidemen. Sloan & Barri, Bob Crewe, Tony Hatch, Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, Roy Halee, Graham Gouldman, Phil Ramone and Linzer & Randall. I wonder about Boston...are they not there because they might not have been a real band?
I dont think Janet Jackson should be, but MJ her brother, yes... we should just change the name to music hall of fame, the Janet and Madonna would be a shoe in.
I totally agree with your assessment like i have no.problem with Rap.music having their own hall of fame but they shouldnt be in the R & R hall . Whoever wrote those opinions is clueless . Other bands off the top.of my head . Jethro tull , ELP , Supertramp , Grand Funk , Kansas ,Joe Cocker ,Boston, Guess Who, Deep purple , King Crimson , America , Humble pie , BTO , Badfinger , Styx ,Monkees , Rush , Three dog night , Bread
The problem with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is the name. Every person has a different mental idea of what that really means. It would be difficult to label it to make it work but as it stands it barely means anything.
This clueless writer also claimed that Madonna didn’t write any of her own number one hits. I know this has caused a lot of consternation amongst Madonna fans online recently because she is a writer on most of her material. Excluding someone for not being a songwriter, also means you would have to exclude many of the original rock ‘n’ roll legends! I know there is a good argument that Madonna should not be in there because she is pop not rock ‘n’ roll although she has more of a rock ‘n’ roll attitude than some rock artists 🤣
Actually, most of these artists deserve to be in the rock hall, especially if they are musically in the rock genre. Whoever made this list, made the list to anger some fans, while making certain haters chuckle. This bogus article can't be taken seriously since the RRHF often gets criticized for putting rap and modern pop acts in. Deep Purple, Rush, AC/DC and Journey definitely deserve to be there.
It's a ludicrous list ! I was suprised to learn that Eddie Money has never even been nominated. Joy Division ➗️ & New Order have been nominated as a 2 for 1 & should be in for the iconic Love Will Tear Us Apart & Blue Monday. A far more interesting list would be who isn't in. Can't change who's in , can change who isn't.
To end all of the debating on this subject….they need to stop calling it “The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame” and instead just call it “The Music Hall Of Fame”. That would end it right there.
the problem with the rock and roll hall of fame is that it got it's name when about 75% of music was rock ... it should be renamed The Music Hall of Fame
Call it "The Rock and Roll Era Hall Of Fame". Problem solved. Those who SHOULD be in: Neil Sedaka, Johnny Rivers, The Beau Brummels, The Turtles, The Buckinghams, The Monkees (and Nesmith as a solo artist), Procol Harum, WAR, Badfinger, Three Dog Night, The Guess Who, Grand Funk Railroad, Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Carpenters, Bread, America, John Denver, Jim Croce, Olivia Newton-John, The Raspberries, The Sweet, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Styx, Ted Nugent, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Warren Zevon, DEVO, XTC, Madness....to name a few. If the people who ran the Hall had a sense of humor (yeah right) they'd induct Cheech and Chong, The Rutles and Spinal Tap.
I agree with you basically, but as you mentioned, the problem is the existence of the RR HOF. It might have been a good idea at first, but very soon, it became a popularity contest for pop stars in general. The performers who are in the HOF now are just a representation of pop stars across the board.
Twenty-five years is too short of a time for any objectivity. It should be more like 50 years. Lots of innovative and influential artists are not in: Captain Beefheart, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Brian Eno, The Fugs, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, The Mothers of Invention, P. J. Harvey, and many others.
KISS was my first concert. I was 10 years old. My brother had to carry me out from the “contact high” and tell my dad we were going to stay at my sisters for the night. 😮
If Duran Duran and Deep Purple aren’t rock, what is rock? What is “rock’n’roll” anyway? It is not a clearly defined form of music. It is an amalgamation of other genres. Any more, it’s more of an attitude and look than form of music.
There's a whole lot wrong with this list, but I'll mention Louis Armstrong. It seems apparent that these people don't realize that the HOF has an "early/musical influences" catagory made up of people that made music prior to the dawn of R&R, but whose music can be said to have led to the birth of R&R. So, of course, they complain that Armstrong wasn't R&R. They also seem to imply that he got in on the strength of "What A Wonderful World," which would be like saying that Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder made it in on the strength of "Ebony And Ivory." It's similar to how they associate Randy Newman with "Toy Story," since they probably couldn't be bothered to notice the decades-long career that preceded it.
KISS definitely deserves to in the HOF! I mean; wearing makeup, and costumes, and having lots of pyro at your shows, and having a comic book, and action figures, and lunch boxes, etc, etc.... That's what MUSIC is all about, right?!?
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has continued to ignore and overlook valued musicians and artists since it started on April 20, 1983, New York, NY. The building opened on September 2, 1995. It is not a contest it is a museum of music. It’s been 41 years they can no longer make excuses for some of these artists! They are purposely overlooking them! It’s no longer Rock and Roll The following types of music & musicians are already inducted into ‘The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 Early Rock Music Founders Song Writers Industry Promoters Talent Agents Skiffle Rock & Roll Soft Rock Country Rock New Wave Jazz Blues Folk Rock Adult Contemporary Bubble Gum Rock Soul R & B Funk Surfing pop Hip Hop, Rap POP Glam Rock Progressive Rock Disco Grunge Hard Rock Heavy Metal Southern Rock Instrumental Psychedelic rock Country Music
Randy Newman had rock radio hits like "Short People" and the 1989 Album Rock radio chart topper "It's Money That Matters" (feat. Mark Knopfler on lead guitar. Some Album Rock radio stations even played back in the day "I Love L.A." and "Christmas In Cape Town" from Randy's 1983 West Coast AOR album Trouble In Paradise. Back in the 70s, R&B, blues, jazz and funk were played on Album Rock radio stations. So it was NOT uncommon to hear Sly & The Family Stone, Aretha, James Brown, Ike and Tina, Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Smokey R./the Miracles, the Temps, the Tops, Motown, Prince, BB King, EWF, Funkadelic, the O'Jays, Isley Brothers, Ray Parker Jr./Raydio, the Brothers Johnson, George Benson, Chaka Khan/Rufus, Ohio Players, the Main Ingredient, Delfonics, the Undisputed Truth, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Edwin Starr, Bobby Womack, the 5th Dimension, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Spinners, the Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, Billy Preston, Buddy Miles, Hot Chocolate, and countless others like them on your fave Album Rock radio stations back in the day. Rock radio was diversified then.
Oh shoot! I forgot to add in the late, great Otis Redding with the black artists played on Album Rock radio back in the 70s. He (for certain) got quite a few spins on rock radio stations years ago. I forgot Chuck Berry and Bill Withers.
I don't necessarily have a problem with Sheryl Crow in the Hall of Fame, but I think Melissa Etheridge should've been in before her. Judging by the performers on this list, I'd be curious as to who or what this "Hedgehog" person actually likes, musically speaking. The list looks like it was entirely made up of acts whose music he personally doesn't like.
you can agree or disagree whether The Police should be RRHOF inductees but to say they're hardy listenable today is complete nonsense, in fact they're much more listenable and infinitely more enjoyable than most of today's music!!
Why waste your time with this ridiculous list? Yes many of the artists they mentioned are more than qualified to be in the RRHOF. What I don't understand is why isn't Dolly Parton on this list? One of the more preposterous inductees. Dolly is an institution in country music but has zero pedigree in rock and roll music. Her induction best illustrates just how far off the mark the RRHOF is when it comes to rock and roll music. Another head scratcher is Joan Baez. She's a dyed-in-the-wool folk artist who has gone on the record to say she was never a big fan of rock music. Anyone who is a true fan of rock and roll music has no use for the so-called Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. They lost their integrity decades ago. Easily they are the most despised music institution on the planet. Yes they should rename it to "The Rock and Roll and Music Hall Of Fame".
Musicians who don't deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Larry, Go back to the 1950s when radio and television, or at least here in the USA, started playing rock and roll, and the generation of adults who heard it and hated it, "Turn that noise off!" One element of rock is to annoy. Eventually, many rock and rollers will get into the Hall of Fame (or Shame.)
One more thing, the fact that Bob Welch wasn't inducted as a member of Fleetwood Mac is a travesty. He kept that band afloat between the time Peter Green left and Buckingham/Nicks joined. Aside from guitar and vocal skills, he wrote some great songs for the band like Hypnotized, Future Games and Sentimental Lady. Whoever kept him from being included should be ashamed of themselves. This needs to be corrected ASAP.
@@LarryGonzalez00 I’ve always thought the Bob Welch years of Fleetwood Mac are as good as any of the Fleetwood Mac years. Mystery To Me is my favorite FM album.
I live in cleveland. The rock hall is nothing but a country club. My first issue with this institution is they rarely hold the ceremonies in Cleveland. That was the whole idea of bringing it to Cleveland to begin with. Bring money into the city and bring attention to the city And the finally got rid of Jan weiner. Yes weiner. He's the proto typical rock snob.
Been saying for years they should rename it to Music Hall Of Fame. While some people on that list actually don't belong in a Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, others to include on this list are just ridiculous. Good thing you stopped. I bet if you continued it would say The Beatles don't deserve.
I had to find this article to get to the end. It turns out that in the end only Yu2 and Billy Joel were left. After reading the entire article, I have only 2 options: 1st, the author knows nothing about music, but still undertakes to write about it; 2. The author is the biggest troll in the world and is trying to play on negative emotions. I'm leaning towards the first option.
Never really understood what the criteria is for getting in the hall, is it just selling x number of records? I thought (and am probably wrong) that to get there you needed to make some kind of meaningful contribution to music that set you apart from the mainstream. Joan Jett is a good example, a few good hit songs but where is she special in any way? Percy Sledge had one really great song but before or after that? It was good but hardly groundbreaking.
What constitutes rock ‘n’ roll? Music style, success or attitude? I bet any money, the writer of this article is a woman with blue hair,. They say NWA shouldn't be in there because Dr. Dre has been accused of domestic violence. That means that Jerry Lee Lewis shouldn't be in there either which is absolutely ridiculous because he is one of the greatest artist in the original era of rock 'n' roll! You could argue that rap isn't rock 'n' roll in its musical form, but rap certainly has more of a rock 'n' roll attitude than many pop acts like ABBA and Whitney Houston who are brilliant talents but don't have a rock 'n' roll attitude.
I agreed with all your decisions, and was on the fence with the same artists, for all the same reasons. The RRHOF is a friggin' JOKE!!! The only way they can fix it is to kick a lot of artists out, or change the name to the Pop Hall Of Fame.
In order to compensate all the non Rock Representatives they need to change the name from The Rock and roll Hall of Fame to the Western popular culture Hall of Fame
@@rightchordleadership They are not in. Brad Delp was an awesome lead singer. He also did the backup vocals on the albums. A very talented, and kind man.

The real question should be how the heel did Duran Duran et in before Foreigner
The list got more and more ridiculous. After the Deep Purple one I stopped taking it seriously.

Slade
It’s the music and what it means to people.💁🏻♀️
Deep Purple. Seriously folks?!? I mean Smoke on the Water is the most recognized rock riff ever written.
Shakin my head
Here are some bands I think deserve to be in:
The Flaming Lips - a band who literally put Neo Psych & experimental music on the map.
4:44 Deep Purple should've been inducted WAY BACK in 1993.
Some people dont deserve to make lists
Seriously, who publishes this crap. My temper is lost. 😮
I'm pretty sure that I've bought enough rock LPs, cassettes, 8-tracks, CDs, DVDs, from 1966 to present day, and spent most of my life listening to them, that I should be in the R&R Hall of Fame myself. ;-)
Right beside Lou Reed and Dolly Parton! :D
Deep Purple and Rush shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame….who in the fk wrote this
Deep Purple in 1973 was the biggest band in the world. In lps sold and gate receipts on tours. Sold over 130m lps. Deep Purple In Rock 1970 was the record that started metal with Sabbath. Rush no better 3 musicians in any rock band.
Humble pie belongs in the hof.
Abba is the Mount Olympus of all popular music. The pinnacle. We all know it.
I dont think Janet Jackson should be, but MJ her brother, yes... we should just change the name to music hall of fame, the Janet and Madonna would be a shoe in.
I agree with some of the selections but Deep Purple, Kiss, Alice Cooper? What in the fuck were they smoking when they put them on the list.
Just wait until you get to Elton John, Pink Floyd, and Queen.
Look up the DEFINITION OF Rock and Roll. And nobody should disagree period!!!
Stopped watching after Jerry Lee Lewis. The Killer is in the Top 4 early influential R&R artists along with Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Elvis.
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has become more like Music Hall Of Fame
I totally agree with your assessment like i have no.problem with Rap.music having their own hall of fame but they shouldnt be in the R & R hall . Whoever wrote those opinions is clueless . Other bands off the top.of my head . Jethro tull , ELP , Supertramp , Grand Funk , Kansas ,Joe Cocker ,Boston, Guess Who, Deep purple , King Crimson , America , Humble pie , BTO , Badfinger , Styx ,Monkees , Rush , Three dog night , Bread
Rock n roll hall of fame has nothing to do with real rock n roll and music generally. The whole institution sucks.
I agree with you, the RRHOF rename themselves as the Music Hall Of Fame
Must correct that. The Hall Of Shame.
Do you have the website this "list" was taken from? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.
I don't provide links as I prefer viewers stay on my channel, but you can easily find it if you type in the title of the video.
@@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin I'll have to tell Classic Album Review to link to you in his Ten Weak Links video. 😉
@@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin Doesn't including links commonly make the comment disappear anyway?
This dude has to be writing this list as a joke. Who’s even left besides a few huge heavy hitters after you take all of these artists away?
the problem with the rock and roll hall of fame is that it got it's name when about 75% of music was rock ... it should be renamed The Music Hall of Fame
That was a terrible article, do think though that renaming the hall to music hall of fame would be better.
i totally agree with you
Deep Purple? Has someone been smoking something? 😮
And then I seen Aerosmith on the list lol 😆
I don't know where you found that website, but it is the most surrealistic and absurd one I saw. Do these people even know what rock music is about ?
That list got progressively more stupid. I was expecting The Beatles to come up at the end.
If Duran Duran and Deep Purple aren’t rock, what is rock?
What is “rock’n’roll” anyway? It is not a clearly defined form of music. It is an amalgamation of other genres. Any more, it’s more of an attitude and look than form of music.
Duran Duran is rock? In what universe...limp wristed crap from beginning to end.
It’s no longer Rock and Roll

You're right, the name should be changed to The Music Hall Of Fame. Maybe then Sparks would have a chance of being inducted.
Why is Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull not in?
They should add, and music (Rock n roll and music hall of fame)and classify Rock under Rock n roll and everything else under the sun under music.
Speaking as a Brit, how the heck can such an American institution not honour it's own Jerry Lee Lewis and Alice Cooper? Its just plain daft.
you can agree or disagree whether The Police should be RRHOF inductees but to say they're hardy listenable today is complete nonsense, in fact they're much more listenable and infinitely more enjoyable than most of today's music!!
If not for The Police, we'd never know what an incredible bass player Sting used to be.
@@johnhoran9840 right!! you nailed it!!
purple one of the greatest bands ever. their influence is astonishing. this article makes me sick.
Any list that says the Killer should not be in the Rock Roll Hall of Fame, can kiss my ass! sorry..........Thanks Larry! Happy Birthday you hoot!
Now the real question is, who does the author of this article think should be in the Hall of Fame? It would be laughable for sure!
I generally avoid these videos, but I found myself enjoying your voice, then I looked at the channel name. Of course.
You ask me why I waste my time with this riduculous list. Perhaps people are interested in the video, and even you left a long comment. Thanks.
Anyone that has not made music with at least a guitar, a bass, set of drums, and a lead singer does not deserve to be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
The rush disrespect is crazy!!! What the heck…amazing rock band.
Amber Ward doesn't know what she's talking about.
The look you gave when you saw Rush was classic and seeing Queen was the final straw.
N.W.A. W.T.F. - like a Rolling Stone list of 'pick the most weird artists to annoy people'.
Yes I think that the music hall of fame would be a better name 👍xx.
Been saying for years they should rename it to Music Hall Of Fame. While some people on that list actually don't belong in a Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, others to include on this list are just ridiculous. Good thing you stopped. I bet if you continued it would say The Beatles don't deserve.
There is a list on Ranker, that claims Elvis Presley, U2 and Neil Young should not be in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame!
I agree rappers and other that are not rock, this is not rapped hall of fame.
Larry I think you call it pretty accurately 👍
Is boston in???
I believe so.
No they are not in
@@rightchordleadership
They are not in. Brad Delp was an awesome lead singer. He also did the backup vocals on the albums. A very talented, and kind man.
What a useless list, lol. These kinds of low effort, rage bait articles clearly get divided into slides so they can show you as many ads as possible
