For which reason does London control instruct all departures to squawk IDENT?

Don’t have to do it anymore but it was a way of identifying the aircraft as being the correct one as it would flash on screen

@MultiLina84 I see, but isn't it enough to identify aircraft by the information provided by the secondary radar that are displayed on the scope?
