Annette Sein, it was from the 1977 Carpenter's album "Passage". I think the reason why you probably never heard this version is because it wasn't widely released. It was on the B side of the "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" single.
I followed her singing from early 70s. It is a great shame how her obsession destroyed her and took her away from us - her brother was so broken . Thank Karen for the beautiful songs she left for us.
Karen certainly had a beautiful voice, stunning. He said one of her versions of a Beatles' song was the best version. Some people think that Sarah Vaughan had the best non operatic voice in English speaking world last century. Tony Bennet for instance. But with greats like these two, both are wonderful.
When music was music. Definitely sang from the heart. My niece died in April of the same thing. She was 27. She had a pace maker....received the first covid shot. 5 days later....gone. Fly high sweet souls with Ms. Karen
As a boy, the volume was low on the phonograph and Karen's sweet voice danced across my bedroom as I went to sleep each night...learning of her passing broke my heart...and as the father of an anorexic daughter, those early nights were fuel to keep fighting, searching for help for her...
Hearing Karen's voice is such a wonderful experience for me and for all. She had such a perfect voice. Her intonation, interpretation, timing and technique were outstanding. I truly cherish the times, in the seventies, when I was privileged to experience The Carpenter's projects. What an outstanding voice. I miss her.
I am still & will remain brokenhearted to the end of my days to have lost her. I've performed her phenomenal songs for governors & a president. I only hope I did her talent justice. Much love & many blessings to you, also, Richard Carpenter 1/19/2022
She has the greatest voice, angelic and softness. She passed too young. She could have surpassed the 'greats' in her life. Loved her for the past 50 years.
never heard this before...i'm stunned...it must be the very best version of this much covered song...it has more human feeling than any other attempt...i adore this woman....she's singing with the angels now....
Yes Royce, human feeling and emotion was something that came easy for Karen. I heard an interview of a man that was in the music industry and he had worked with the Carpenters in the studio when Karen was only sixteen years old. The interviewer asked him if the emotional presentation that Karen always conveyed was something that she developed over time. He emphatically said NO, she was born with it. It was not something she learned.
I was shopping in the Safeway grocery in Jedda, Saudi Arabia when I first heard this version. I stopped to listen, and didn't move a bit until it was finished. Gone far too soon, Karen.
@Yvwic50 I understand why, and I'm not a Karen Carpenter fan. But song would stop me in my tracks, too. I'd pretend to decides between a can of tomato sauce, and a can of tomato puree -- for 6 minutes -- just not to look odd.
And the saddest thing is that she didn't think she was good enough... She couldn't have been more wrong... If anything she was too good for this mortal plane and the universe claimed her for its own...
We really lost a precious gem and to this day I can still hear her voice somehow associated with these more current popular songs, that she didn't have the opportunity to do as a cover song. I wish she could have lived longer to do the song "The Prayer" I can still imagine her sweet voice though and that would be my most favorite inspirational song each day. RIP Karen
What a shame that someone who was so talented didn't see the incredibly talented woman that she was, impressive, admired, appreciated. For her to see herself as needing to eat less to have value is heartbreaking!
You are so right! So many people, including Helen Gurley Brown and the author of "The Fascinating Girl" push the garage that women MUST be thin in order to find love & be beautiful. If I had met either one, I would shove her face in a cake. And skinny people DO get sick, HGB!
Karen's mother was largely responsible for her lack of self-esteem and related insecurities. And when Karen eventually received public criticism about her physique/weight, it had an almost predictable affect on her self image. A very sad and difficult scenario. Thankfully, her incredible music lives on to inspire future generations.
@@joeshleb743 she apparently had no idea of the thousands of men out there who would have married her at any given moment and devoted themselves to her for life.

Karen Carpenter is on a very short list as the greatest female singer of all time. After thinking about it, she is on a shortlist as the greatest singer that has ever been on this planet.
It is impossible to describe the heavenly sublime voice of Karen. Almost as if she was not of this earth, but on loan from God. Only he could have created an Angel like this.
The first time I met Karen Carpenter, was when her brother brought her along to a rehearsal at Disneyland where he was a minor music director/piano player at the time. I was one of the singers. She was entirely 'low profile', completely unassuming, and I had no idea she could sing at all (or play drums which is what she REALLY loved it turned out), until informed later, by one of our sound techs, who happened to have heard her when her brother asked her to do a stand in mic check in the recording studio, where her voice simply blew everyone away. As they say, the rest was history. Unfortunately, the rapid rise to stardom, combined with the vast crowds of industry 'orchard pigs' incessantly trying to carve out a 'piece' of her for themselves, took a heavy toll despite Richard doing his best to protect her (amazingly talented guy btw.) I'd be surprised if anyone who ever knew her, even those who only heard that magnificent voice solely through her recordings, did not physically cry upon her passing. In the words of space and time, she was a 'singularity.'
I went to school with Karen...she was a sweet person and was very shy ...may God bless her

Annette Sein, it was from the 1977 Carpenter's album "Passage". I think the reason why you probably never heard this version is because it wasn't widely released. It was on the B side of the "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" single.
WOW WOW WOW absolutely stunning
Annette Sein - hopefully if we comply with the government restrictions on Covid19 we won't have to cry!
Karen Carpenter is still remembered and loved by so many fans throughout the world.
One of the finest female voices of all time. What a sad loss of a beautiful person.
I’m 52 Karen had the best voice still no one comes close even now so clean and clear such a sad loss x
agree, no one singer comes close after her passing
Karen was always on key...Her voice never strained..amazing..
Its a pleasure listening to you XX
Agreed, she made it look so effortless.
She was reputed to have "perfect pitch"
I I have listened to many versions of this song.....But, Karen's version is the best RIP Karen we miss you
I am 67 years old and I still play Karen’s songs ! Her sudden death at such a young age makes me very sad .
Yes!
@@asa4824 I'm with you all the way asa and at 85 still have not heard it done better
She absolutely owns this song
How did I miss this? Like found gold after 40 years!
Absolutely beautiful voice, taken from us far too soon, still feel great sadness listening to her .❤
I followed her singing from early 70s. It is a great shame how her obsession destroyed her and took her away from us - her brother was so broken . Thank Karen for the beautiful songs she left for us.
One must take into account what conditioned Karen to have the disorder from which she died.
Indeed heartbreaking.
As John Lennon said, she has the best singing voce of all time.
Did he?
Where’s it say that?
@@MrAndrewFarrow google
Karen certainly had a beautiful voice, stunning. He said one of her versions of a Beatles' song was the best version. Some people think that Sarah Vaughan had the best non operatic voice in English speaking world last century. Tony Bennet for instance. But with greats like these two, both are wonderful.
@ST 068 if that's all you have to say STFU... Little person... Whatever he did or didn't do your not a pimple on his ass...

I had no idea she'd sung this. This is one of the best versions there is.
A Fathers strength will carry you through
Me either. Saw the play years ago. Andrew Lloyd Webber such a gift to the people. Wonderful composer.
Karen had such a beautiful voice.
The voice of an angel, she left the world too soon.
She is so beautiful singing
I was shocked decades later that to find she had died so young. Left me gutted.
This woman's voice calms the way a mother soothes her infant. Indescribably beautiful
God bless you
Lbhunter63~ Wishing you well… and better and better….
I hope your daughter recovers well.
L....I did not know ur Daughter was Anx...! God Bless you all 🤗
Your neighbor Sol GA
Not over sung as it normally ends up, very pure expression from her crystal voice 👏💗
THIS! I love Elaine Paige, but this is supposed to be melancholy, not loud
Karen's voice was warm and deep. It was truly a tragedy that she left us so young.
Never heard her sing this before. A delight to the ears ❤
I miss her.
I am 71 and didn’t know that Karen had covered this number.
Thank you for posting it
An absolute angel
Wow Doc
I got back from Nam and if she had been standing there I would have married her. I actually met my wife a few days later.
I am still & will remain brokenhearted to the end of my days to have lost her. I've performed her phenomenal songs for governors & a president. I only hope I did her talent justice. Much love & many blessings to you, also, Richard Carpenter

She has the greatest voice, angelic and softness. She passed too young. She could have surpassed the 'greats' in her life. Loved her for the past 50 years.
Oh how I miss her heavenly voice. Thanks to Richard for getting this out to th public. Such a wonderful group you were.
She sang this song beautifully. Amazing control of the song with pitch, etc.
Of all the "Don't cry or me" songs out there, Karen Carpenter does one of the best versions!
never heard this before...i'm stunned...it must be the very best version of this much covered song...it has more human feeling than any other attempt...i adore this woman....she's singing with the angels now....
It was not something she learned.
obviously not trained in this genre
It truly is the best version ever. The first time I heard it I was just floored. It is magnificent.
Karen..irespeçther..because..she..is..so..talented
@Summer Rose Gi cp co
I wonder if Karen realizes how much we enjoy this, and all of her songs.
Hats off to Karen Carpenter who died young at when she was only 32 yrs . RIP,
I was shopping in the Safeway grocery in Jedda, Saudi Arabia when I first heard this version. I stopped to listen, and didn't move a bit until it was finished. Gone far too soon, Karen.
She does truly nail it..!
yvwic50 unchanged melody
I brought my carpenter tape from Safeway Jeddah on the 747 label small world
@Yvwic50 I understand why, and I'm not a Karen Carpenter fan.
Even though she passed away so many years ago, her music and voice are eternal - so beautiful!
Such an amazing voice. The world lost a queen and the heavens got an angel.
She had not to the best of our knowledge put her liffe in the hands of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. cheers
We really lost a precious gem and to this day I can still hear her voice somehow associated with these more current popular songs, that she didn't have the opportunity to do as a cover song. I wish she could have lived longer to do the song "The Prayer"
I can still imagine her sweet voice though and that would be my most favorite inspirational song each day.
Immediately I run to defend her. ❤️❤️❤️
The music press vilified them constantly. Bet none of them could sing . . .
Simply the most profound female voice ever......there's not even a close second.....we lost her way too soon
+Ozzie Oswald When did she die ?
Thanks - I had not heard that.
she died more than 30 years ago :-(
Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983)
Julie Covington has sung this song much better
I adored the Varpenters when I was a giggly high school girl. I had all their albums. I never knew Karen recorded this beautiful song. R.I.P. gentle soul. ❤️💕🙏
A beautiful redition of this song by Karen. The first time I ever heard her doing this. Amazing!
Karen Carpenter is on a very short list as the greatest female singer of all time. After thinking about it, she is on a shortlist as the greatest singer that has ever been on this planet.
You might want to put judith durham on that list , her rendition of danny boy is incredible .
@@fishy118 I agree. Incredible singer.
Linda Rondstadt and Ann Wilson are on that list too.
@@jeffinphx517 Phenomenal singers. What talents.
These are all a stretch, good voices for sure, but "best of all time", please.
It is impossible to describe the heavenly sublime voice of Karen. Almost as if she was not of this earth, but on loan from God. Only he could have created an Angel like this.
She was an angel with such a beautiful voice . RIP Karen.😢😢
