This is the only video on UA-cam explaining firmware update using USB ... Kudos to you 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Dude, you rock. I read docs for an hour. You are the only place that said that the drive needed to be fat32. Thank you for helping not waste the entire afternoon.
No problem! glad it helped
Hello sir. Thank you so much for making this. My update wouldn't start and all of the other info I found online for troubleshooting did not have a solution until I found your video explaining the USB drive format. I reformatted my USB to the correct type and it worked. Thank you!
Glad I could help! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the quick and easy instructions!
No problem!
my Bluetooth transmitter was grayed out until I did this update. So thanks to both you and Yamaha for actually doing an update to fix this issue
Glad it was useful!
Very helpful, thank you for the tutorial. Worked perfectly and only took 3 min or so to update once started.
Thanks

Glad it was helpful!
I wish they would let people know when to update firmware before the dang receiver stops working. So far it looks like this will fix my problem. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Very solid thanks man🎉
No problem!
Very helpful thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! I have an early 385 that upon checking the firmware, was at 1.01. Luckily my Kingston USB drive is FAT32. It was an easy update to 1.10.
Glad it helped

I'm facing "surround sound issue" (Huzzz) on my Yamaha HTR-3072 after updating 1.10v. Can i able to fix the issue by myself?
Just bought this receiver and the firmware is at 1.10....what a relief!
Good to know, thanks
@@landpet not a problem, I'll let you know when the firmware changes.
@@jrbrawlersgaming18161.11 is out you didn't let him know!
I can’t thank you enough !!
Thank you 👍
No problem!
What does it actually do?
Been scouring everywhere and I'm trying to figure out if it makes it more compatible with e a r c for audio...
According to Yamaha: usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/rx-v385_htr-3072.html
This firmware includes
Stability improvements on eARC related functionality
Just updated mine from 1.01 to 1.10. I just Yamaha had a page were I could see the changes each firmware brought.
Glad it worked out
If anyone is having issues with the update on older 385 receivers: I used an 8GB SanDisk Cruzer. It's an older USB drive, formatted at FAT16, 838 mb partision default allocation size. Worked instantly.
thanks!!
You're welcome!
Thanks!
No problem!
hey, i updated my yamaha htr4069 over network, at some point it stuck for hours. Now it doesn't show firmware version, cannot connect to wifi to update, cannot update from usb. I tried reseting it also. What can I do?
I’m not sure, you may have to contact Yamaha
Had no sound out of the 2 channel and only got sound sound when in direct mode. This fixed the problem. Firmware was on 1.06 before updated to 1.10
Nice!
I followed all your instructions. I am getting "Not Found" when it starts to read the drive. Tried a different drive and get same message. Any suggestions?
Verify your flash drive is in fat32 format, verify the firmware file is in the root folder and verify you have the correct firmware file
@@landpet Yeah, I did all that before I posted. Tried 3 different drives and re-downloaded the firmware.
I have two of the RX-V383's with firmware 1.09 and the most recent firmware is v1.14. I've tried everything I can think of: FAT, FAT32, BIN file in root (unzipped) with no other folders, even named the thumb drive YAMAHA. I've used 2GB USB 2.0 drives, 32GB drives, 8GB drives and an SD card in a USB 2.0 converter and the normal method of holding STRAIGHT while powering on nor the method of unplugging the receiver and plugging it back in while holding down the INFO button worked. It blanks the screen for a second, then USB UPDATE appears and hangs there until I power it off.
This all started because I plugged in a hastily made thumb drive full of Christmas music into my receiver and it said Access Error, then No Content. Again, I tried multiple drives and file system formats. I'm about ready to declare Yamaha junk and buy a Denon or Marantz.
Maybe ask Yamaha if there is anything you can do?
@@landpet I appreciate your response but to date, your video has been more informative than all my communications with Yamaha support combined. Granted, I learned the update procedure and Troubleshooting Methods 1 and 2 from a document on their website, but so far my queries to them have only resulted in canned responses and links to pages I've already visited and tried. How has your luck been with contacting them?
You need USB 3.0! Mine also didn`t work with USB 2.0 flash drive. I had the same problems as you described, i was lucky i had USB 3.0 around.
@@elninho08 Yeah, the 32GB drive I tried is USB 3.0...I also tried USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 (5 Mbit and 10 Mbit) with no luck.
@@MrV1NC3N7V3G4 I don`t know if it would make any difference, but i used 8 gb usb 3.0 Lexar flash drive and it worked like a charm. I was trying Adata usb 2.0 usb for the whole day, nothing happened. Couldn`t play any songs, just like you described in your post, i was stuck. Hope you resolve your problem soon..
So my version is blank and i can't update 1.08 "unknown error" any thoughts?
I don’t know, I haven’t experienced that. I found this on google, not sure if it applies to your situation: usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/58063_en.html
@@landpet sorry it's a rx385 no wifi ability on it sadly...USB does the entire process but then "Unknown Error" it's only the sound that doesn't work (any mode including bluetooth) I was thinking it was the ". . . . _ _ _" firmware version
I have the RXV-385, internal error on screen when plugged in and will not do none else after a power failure, I get UNKNOWN ERROR when verifying fails. just sad that Yamaha wont give support with no dealers near me, I have searched for the on board jumper locations to no avail. any one has any idea where this will be located since the board is different from the ones used in the videos on here. the receivers issues are to common , soon no one will want any from them.
I’m not sure myself, hopefully someone else can chime in. There are audio video forums you can post your question there as well
My V485 has been sitting for several years not plugged in, and now when powered up it says "Internal Error". So this option doesn't work.
I've heard this is common if unit is not used for a long time and there's another way holding two buttons and plugging in the power cord at same time.
And it will then re-flash the receiver from the usb port.
Anyone had experience doing this?
I found these videos: ua-cam.com/video/t849EyfXyYU/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/z2G8y_e9EgA/v-deo.html
Have no idea if it works or not, try it at your own risk though
@@landpet Thank you very much. I think the latter will work as it's not possible to turn the unit on or off as it keeps giving the "Internal error" I did see another video on folding three keys down while powering up, it then says looking for USB updaate, but I've yet to plug a USB stick.
@@Musicman-50 No worries, remember to format the usb in fat32 or fat16 otherwise it won't read it. Also put the firmware file at the root folder.
@@landpet Yes you very much. I've installed bin files before on other devices. I'm looking forward to getting this stereo running again.
I just got it to work!!
I had to use a 16gb USB, formatted to FAT32.
I tried to use a 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB USB but none of those worked even after formatting all of them to FAT32
I can’t remember what size mine was, maybe a 32GB. Thanks for that info
how long it takes to complete the update?
About a minute or two.
Welp... the USB Update worked, receiver still won't turn on. Standby button just blinks rapidly 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
You may need to call Yamaha. I haven't seen that.
You the man! And I do mean the ...........M...n !!
Thanks!
Tried 6 different flash drives. Used all possible permutations of capacity (4, 8, 16 and more) and file systems (fat, fat32, ntfs). Tried diskpart and other softwares. It finally worked on a last ditch attempt, thanks to an old 8gb HP flash drive my wife uses as a keychain. Go figure. FAT worked. Why it worked on the HP and not on multiple sandisks? No clue.
In case anyone else stumbles on this I had a 1.01 receiver and it would not update from a FAT32 USB drive. Just sat there on USB UPDATE. Using a FAT16 formatted drive made the update start immediately. A few minutes later and I'm on 1.08. If your USB drive won't format FAT16 make sure it's smaller than 4GB.
Thanks for pointing that out!
good on u mate, u r a lifesaver 👍
Im just wondering if on what format will my 32gb usb be set in?
@@meruemking9622 Mine needed to be old school FAT16 which means a 32GB drive might give you problems. I'd find a smaller one personally.
@@bigddybn thanks mate. I'll try to look for a smaller usb. I was a bit worried when the usb update takes a long time.
How much time it will take
A few minutes for that actual update
Can u send me a copy since I don't have a pc
sorry, I can't do that.
What is bin file?
It’s the file within the zip file. If your showing file extensions you will see the file end in .bin but if it’s not on you will not see that. All you need to do is unzip the file and place that on the root folder of your usb flash drive like I demonstrated.
@@landpet thanks
I just discovered my rx v685 can't connect to internet, bluetooth and network were grey instead of white and it keeps display 'Usb Overloaded'. Any help pls?.
Did you update it? I'm assuming you got the correct firmware for your receiver? The one in this video is for the V385, you would need to get the firmware for the V685.
@@landpet No i didn't. It brings 'usb overloaded' whenever it switches on while other things works well. And this issue does not let it update.
I got Unknown error.....😭😭
Me too. Goes thru all the erasing/programming verifying for S2, S3, and S6, then just says "UKNOWN ERROR". Was trying this in order to fix "internal error", so maybe it won't let me update until I fix the other. But this model doesn't have the 2 pins to short, so there seems to be no way to reset the backup memory and set the model/location as others have posted for other models
So I take it there won't be anything further
Last time I checked nothing new
Mine is 1.10 from factory but 1.08 is the only version I see on the website.
