Another great video on a task many Transporter owners eventually have to tackle. I love your shop and hope someday to tour Australia and perhaps go for a ride in your Bus.
I have a few helpful hints to add to help out. At about 5:30 in the video you mention that you thought the two cables "twist" as the knob is turned. I don't believe that is the case. In a properly working system, that silver section with the pin holding the looped cable doesn't turn in the bore of the shaft. It simply slides up and down the bore of the shaft pulling or releasing the cable. Grease it all up good! It shouldn't twist the cables. #2. At about 7:30 in the video you clean up your ivory colored heater knob with abrasives like sandpaper. My suggestion is to use either try a grease removing hand cleaner or a good dishwashing soap full-strength with an old toothbrush to get most of the grease and dirt off the knob without removing plastic material. And #3: "Grease is good"!!! The longer end of the cable usually goes to the right side heater box. As you feed the new cables into the individual tube holes, slather the wire heavily with fresh wheel bearing grease as you slowly slide it in. You can't put "too much" grease into those tubes! Use lots of grease and those cables once hooked up will slide nicely and will last longer that if installed dry. Lots of grease!!! Cheers and keep up the great work and how-to videos!

To clean plastic parts and painted metal, use EASY-OFF oven cleaner. I stumbled upon this use when l thought l'd try to remove soap scum from shower walls. It works great! Just don't use it on anything that has a 'sticker' or 'decal' as it will remove that as well. It would have made quick work of that heater control knob.

So you leave the plastic sleeve on the one side?? What side does that one go in? I assume the longer side goes on the passenger side...yes?

@@DemopVWgarage Just replaced mine on my ‘62 single cab today. I left the plastic on it and it fit, but my buddy said cut it off as it’s only for PN ID…(shrug). Thanks for the instructions!
