That's The Way It Is Documentary 1970 Stage Rehearsal in MGM Studios (Best Possible Picture & Sound Quality)
    Lyrics
I'd been standing on the corner
    Since a quarter after seven
I was down to my last cigarette
And the clock in the window
    Had it quarter to eleven
I was watching all the people
    Passing by me, going places
Just the loneliest guy in the town
    Looking for a friendly smile
But all that I could see were faces
And then, just like the taste of milk and honey
I found the stranger I'd been looking for
The way my cup of love was overflowing
I knew the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more
Love had found us on the corner
    At a quarter to eleven
I thought you were too good to be true
All my life I had believed
That angels only live in Heaven
But now, we share the taste of milk and honey
Each day is sweeter than the day before
My cup of love is overflowing
Because the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more
Deep inside, my cup of love was overflowing
I found the stranger I'd been looking for
The way my cup of love was overflowing
I knew the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more
I knew the stranger in the crowd
And I would be strangers no more

Elvis: That's The Way It Is
Hi suzi and travis, Happy new Year! this video features Elvis rehearsing a song from his 1970 Vegas set with the core members of the tcb band. the song "stranger in the crowd" was written for elvis by winfield scott who also co-wrote the song "return to Sender". BANDMATES remarked HOW REHEARSALS WERE REALLY FUN - OFTEN MORE LIKE JAM SESSIONS. WHILE ELVIS HAD A SERIOUS BUSINESS SIDE AND KNEW WHAT HE WANTED FROM THE ARRANGEMENT, HE liked to JOKE AROUND AND REALLY GET INTO THE MUSIC, ESPECIALLY INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES FROM THE MUSICIANS... this is one reason why he would attract among the best in the business. ENJOY!

As a performer he is so unique it's uncanny. I don't think the world will ever again see an artist so closely connected to the art of performance, and the connection to an audience, that Elvis had.
When you look up the word "stage" in a dictionary, it should show a picture of Elvis. He and it were one and the same.

FYI: They said in the early 70's, his jumpsuits would weigh anywhere from 25-30 pounds each. In the later years when the paterns became more intricate with embroidery and jewels they weighed in at about 75 pounds. That's a lot of weight to be performing in, but Elvis being Elvis did it with such grace and flair. R.I.Paradise Elvis! 😇🙏🏽💖

Thanks for another great reaction to my submission! And thanks for the fanfare, Travis, when introducing my name! There is more Elvis rehearsals literally where that came from - many with better sound and video quality. Some really show his involvement in the musical arrangements, as well as more clowning around by Elvis. There are some good ones that also include the backup singers. His movements are purely organic. And his glances and call outs where he says "yo!" or "ho!" all have significance. He is letting his bandmates know "I see you" when he likes what he hears - both in rehearsal and on stage.

Fun vid. Elvis's rehearsals are always great. Check out those kinds of performances for Words where he interacts with his female soul singers or the one for Mary in the Morning where he cuts up with his posse. There's also a rehearsal where Elvis rips into Oh Happy Day like a musical earthquake. This is the only known performance of this song. All of these are from the Vegas ' 70 period.

Elvis was a jokester...He never took himself too seriously. He liked to have fun with his group. with the fans, and with just about anybody , really. The pranks that Elvis pulled on his guys , and them on him, are legendary. It's amazing that someone didn't get really hurt with some of the stuff that they did to each other, and others. It was usually a good atmosphere and lots of fun to be around Elvis...In his last years , not so much, of course. Elvis only lived to be 42 years old , and he was only famous for half of those years , but , my God, did he pack a lot of living into his short lifetime.

      You are so right......!
I remember one of his songs.......
"Got A Lot O' Livin' To Do"!
It really feels like he lived 7 lifes during this short period of time.

Indeed, he wasn’t that in his last days except as stated by those that were part of the rones around him in his home. When your in pain and hurting, you can’t push yourself anymore it’s hard when ones who have lived off you can only seem to think of themselves as you’ve kinda enabled them as their meal ticket. All in that place, that were generous seem to feel abused when your in pain and can’t continue what they expect. He wanted time off even if in a monistary, time with God, but they were jealous of anyone else that entered in and influenced our side of what they had a monopoly on. When really digging in it was only those who lived off him that had bad things to say. From the colonel to guys referred to as the Memphis mafia as they were always around him, from guarding to other things, they had no musical abilities that paid them. Just him supporting them.

    • @karenestep1878
      @karenestep1878 7 місяців тому +1

Meant; when your generous, then you can no longer keep it up due to health, you kinda get abused by the ones that are dependent on you. They have their health but can’t see that jewel for looking at the meal ticket going away. I’ve been there in family as the bread winner. But in the corporate world. I know how he felt, to keep trying and pushing past your limit but it’s killing you. Only, abosute time off completely can save you. And then when ,you’ve pushed to hard your never ok again if you do live. Only to be mistreated as the ones that have no other talent begin to feel the pain of looking at no source. Even today those few in their parts on UA-cam still come across bitter and blaming. Not remembering and honoring this wonderful generous man that gave them so much.

My grandma introduced me to Elvis. For my 5th birthday she bought me my first album. The lyrics for Are you lonesome tonight instead of " Are you lonesome tonight do you miss me tonight Are you sorry we drifted apart " but Elvis sang " are you lonesome tonight does your hair look a fright..." I remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever 🤣❤️

This rehearsal clip is from „That the way it is“. There are many brilliant rehearsals. My favorit is the rehearsal from „Bridge over troubled water“. Its amazing to see how he was making this song to his own. How he was working with his band and his background singers.
After the rehearsals from „That the way it is“ there are videos from 6 shows from 4 days in LV (Opening show on 10. August 70, dinner and midnight shows on 11. and 12., dinner show on 13. …Great performances. You have to see this… 🥰❤️😘🙏💪👍

Love watching both of your reactions together. Your both quit special.
I was almost 21 when he past. An honor getting to see this generation experience him. Nothing like him ever. From exceptional heart warming talent in all his ways. Including his endearing giggle and smerks during a song for either a mess up or honoring others. His magnificent smooth yet powerful voice and amazing vocal abilities, amazing ear for directing the songs with his team making them a masterpiece in his own style, his love for people, wonderful endearing character, generosity that was never in the light. Magnitisum, swag, smooth and cool yet humble, amazing looks and hair. Pat Boone said in person he looked better than on film or in pictures. many said likewise. Can you even imagine it any better. Pat Boone, Christian singer artist also summed it up saying he really looked like a Greek God in person.

I was 11 when he passed away...rock n roll lost a legend for sur. My mom was a huge fan and went to the liquor store and bought an Elvis Presley decanter she'd been admiring and then set down when she got home and opened the Avon catalog so see if there was anything to sniff...the good 'ol days lol.

There's an album you guys should check out called Elvis Close Up that are outtakes. You listen to him as he perfects the song, he would do as many takes as he felt necessary until he felt it was right but another interesting thing is how Elvis changed the entire industry from doing rehearsal the day before recording to recording as he rehearsed so all of the other artists decided to record like Elvis which eventually became standard practice or so I'm told because I have no idea about what the recording business is like.

I heard in an interview (with one of his back-up singer in the Sweet Inspirations, I think) that he could tell if one of them was off (as in not giving 100% in their performance) and he would talk to them to find out what was wrong, if they were ill, or if something was troubling them. Then he would do whatever he could to help them (i.e. get a doctor). Of course he wanted them to be at their best for the show, but he also cared about them all and wanted to make sure they were ok.

Love your Elvis reactions because as musicians yourself, you recognize his genius as a singer, his musical arrangements, performer and showman. FYI to the beautiful lady (sorry I don’t know your name), did you know that you have the same colour eyes as Elvis….Elvis had glaucoma and his eyes were very sensitive and sometimes wore coloured contacts that covered how blue they actually were. If you look at the movie Spinout at about the 15 minute mark from the start, you see an actress looking through a set of binoculars and suddenly these blue eyes looking back at her on the other side…that’s EP. Looking forward to your next EP video from Canada ❣️🇨🇦

Hey guys. Love your reaction videos. However, I noticed that when you were watching the live Las Vegas version of 'You've Lost That Lovin Feeling', you seemed to miss a great Elvis funny. As he is singing, "Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you." As he's getting down to kneel, he sings, "if this suit wasn't too tight.". I missed it on the record - yes I am that old! - but only noticed it when the film came out. A personal favourite of mine is, "Loving Arms, from the 1974 'Good times' album. Sorry that there isn't a video of it but it is a beautiful track.Try it. Cheers Chris

Hello. If I may, you’ve used the term “smirk” in a few videos regarding Mr P: a “smirk” has a negative connotation-smug, leering or offensive-and I’m fairly sure that isn’t what you intended to convey. I think a more apt description of what Elvis gives to his band members is a self-deprecating smile or look. It is one of the reasons why men like him as much as women: he wasn’t above making fun of himself. Anyway, just thought you might like to consider if smirk is what you actually meant. A delightful weekend to all.

If you listen closely, there's a hint of Mexican music sound, which Elvis was a big fan of. Other than the Spanish songs he sang, there's other songs that had that sound. "It's Now or Never" being one of those.
