New Jersey Transit, Washington DC, and Onwards: NCT Southbound Ep1

- It's day 1 of my 3000+ mile trip to the south and back. In this video we're driving south to Ashland, VA, stopping in Metropark, NJ and Washington, DC. Metropark made up nearly all of the day's railfanning, with NJT 4640 and a GP40-powered extra making things interesting. After a NS 8098 sighting in Baltimore, it was onward to the capital before finishing the night with Amtrak train 97 in Ashland.

Some great catches there such as that vintage GP40 pulling that mixed bag of equipment. Those Jersey Transit Geeps are all over 50 years old! NJT more than got their money's worth.
I'm sure you noticed the vintage color position light signals. Who knows how long they'll be around?
And oh yeah, that NJT 40th Anniversary wrap commemorates NJTs iconic "Disco Stripe" markings. Very appropriate for 1983 when they began to "Do The Hustle" in commuter service.
And don't you DARE stop in Ashland again without letting me know you're coming!

Great vid! 4640 is a retro wrap meant to commemorate the “Disco-Stripe” scheme of the former ALP-44s.
Hey, that "Disco-Stripe" goes back before the "Toasters!" Or "Swedish Meatballs" if you prefer that term! If memory serves the GP40's got it first.
