I like it! I do think the camera could be tweaked still to be less disorienting. Increasing the world size (while keeping it relatively small of course) could help with this. Having a bit of extra room would also let you add more gameplay options, like dungeons or other surface structures!
Yep, those are all great ideas! I didn't even think of dungeons. And I like the idea of having slightly bigger planets depending on what the current mission is!
@@emeralgamedev Feature creep alert! Don't lose sight of the central idea you presented of a small world. Perhaps lean into the idea that the world is so small you could actually memorize it, such as severely limiting the light levels as time passes.
DAT IS A PERFECT THING!!!!!🥹🥹🥹
that does look fun, its enough of a spin on the formula that its not really like a "just minecraft again" type game, its unique and looks like it could be fun. Wishlisted!
this game looks really good, i hope it gets released
Thanks Astro, me too!
I think this is a cool idea. Traversing between planets could be a really fun avenue to explore as well. Spaceships, jetpacks or portals would all be interesting I think.
Looks nice and fun. One thought I couldn't shake was that the planet should be a little lit bigger, although that could just be the claustrophobic part of me x) I can see endless posibillities with moving this game forward :D A lot of good suggestions in the comments here as well.
Depends. Like a 5 bucks quick fun game that doesn’t overstay its welcome, absolutely. And id go whacky. Like ~ 20 minutes per planet would be cool cause then you can just keep switching ideas. For overarching goals, maybe solar systems you have a mission in could be helpful. You could see other planets in the background. Sounds cute. Maybe shoot one planet with a laser gun from another? Progress the events there by doing that?
Art style seems semi at the moment. Maybe something comical since youd want to be working with an insane color pallette anyways to distinguish the planets… 🤔
Conclusion im interested in where this project is going
Good points! Yes, each planet would be it's own small experience. I'm very much open on how to scale the game up and whether the player should start each planet with no items/ stats or if something should carry through. Thanks for the input!
Each mini-planet ends with you getting a critical part for the laser and a jetpack to stay ahead of the comet and you need to survive 10 planets to get enough parts for the actual laser. @@emeralgamedev
If you want to lower the disorientation of the super curved horizon while keeping the tiny speck feel you could use a tilt shift focus effect on the camera! I love your videos! Thanks again!
Adding stats and abilities might be a good idea to explore
What if, instead of just being able to suddenly make a laser, you have a crashed ship that you can use to make the laser? Giving you the choice of either saving the planet, or moving on to the next one?
This looks great! Ranged weapons would be great so long as they arent overpowered. I'll be adding it to my wishlist.
Yeah, ranged weapons would be rad! And thanks!
I imagine how cool it would be as reference if a game had an another skin of a player that looka like The Little Prince. Hope you continue that project!
I would spend a few bucks on this game. Add a few planets you can visit to gather resources. Maybe add a free build mode or something? Idk. Looks like it has great potential.
Love the idea for the game! Already added to my wishlist. The only point(s) I would make would be as previously mentioned; the camera angles could do with some tweaking, i.e. through making the world ever so slightly larger. Plus the added bonus, giving the player more area to explore, room for more features and possibilities such as structures, dungeons, mini bosses, etc. Something I think would be a nice addition to the game also would be as you eluded to at the end of the video different planets/biomes. But not to have them as separate levels, rather within view of your current planet/home base, to give the player aspirations for exploration and expansion. Side note, the asteroid could then be revised for that of a blackhole sweeping through the solar system so as to not circumnavigate the original impending doom and overall objective of the game.
Keep up the great work!
this looks and sounds like a really cool game/game concept, I would love to see where it could go, I watched this and another video to inspire my own game which I already have a concept for but no start has been made yet, some things I think would be cool is variation in overworld size, while keeping it relatively small you can make a chance to spawn large planets and small planets which will have different overworld spawns like more rare resources but increased danger or cold to have a good payoff to go to a larger planet, another thing that could be cool is to go to another planet to escape the meteor where you'll have to build camp all over from the start with the astroid still coming at you but this time you have to explore a new planet with more dangers and more resources, maybe after only a couple of planets you'd have enough to destroy the meteor after all, this way you can shorten the time the astroid hits the planet and make it harder while keeping it fair, speedrunners can want to beat the game only on the first planet while people who take it slowly will want to migrate planets every once in a while, but idk
So cool! I love how this started as a small project, but you decided to take it further!
Commenting for the algorithm because this looks cozy AF and more people need to see it!
ideas: crossbow, sprinting, random water generating (yes while away from the camp still) smoker (the fish cooking thing) a few fish because how do you use the smoker, a blast furnace (better furnace but smelts less items) and updates? kinda like the blood rain update but choose your own update if you like (I really don't care if you add 1 or less) that's all.
This is the first good original idea i have heard in a long time
Minecraft meets Super Mario Galaxy meets Pikmin. I'm digging the game idea, would love to see a VR mode after release!
i wanna play it bruv.. your work in game development is crazy and im also making my own game as an indie gamedev, it isnt done yet but maybe you should make a 2nd channel where u review other games like mine when its done:)
Thanks Pancakie! I may make a second channel at some point. In the meantime, I'll play your game on discord if you ever want!
@@emeralgamedev very cool my dude. heres a gucci banana for christmas!!
This would be a great game for the Switch as well. Keeping things tiny makes it unique enough to separate it from Eco
im going reviewer mode
- i love the atmosphere and appearance of the game. the "fireflies", lighting, and skybox are all beautiful. the comet's texture looks a bit aliased compared to the planet's texture, but that seems generally easy to fix.
- this reminds me of when i used to download minecraft clones and explore them with no knowledge. they were scary and fun asf.
- the fist combat looks finicky & difficult, tbh. i don't know how or if this will be updated in the future, however.
i would review more, but this is a video demo and i have not played it.
and to your question about wishlisting: i would likely not buy this game (because i rarely play PC games). however, if i did play PC games, i would consider buying this game.
This is so neat! Please keep it up
Great video as always. Love seeing your creativity.
ended up being more like "Don't Starve", which is NOT an insult, I LOVE that game!
This idea is so cool!!! I would love to play something like this
Thanks leon! Perhaps I'll come back to this idea!
Please , keep working on this game and sharing with us. This could become a serie for your channel.
I love this kind of content and hope it continues.
Awesome, I really think you should make it.
All those other possibilities: ice, acid and volcano could be other versions of the game
Emeral you are SO brilliant! Every concept for all your videos is so clever and unique, and I really like your sense of humour too :-) Definitely wishlisting speck miner right now.
In response to your question, here are all the ideas I could think of, which you are free to use (or not use) now and in perpetuity:
- Might be interesting to play with the planet geometry. For example, maybe the planet is a torus, or maybe you are on the inside of a Dyson sphere
- A planet could be "very close to the sun" and you have to stay on the dark side as the planet spins. Maybe the bright sun could also destroy player-made resources but regenerate natural resources
- Role reversal: you control the weather/monsters and are trying to prevent another player (or an AI) from defending against the asteroid
- In my opinion, any survival-based game is strengthened by the occasional boss battle
- I would personally enjoy if some of the levels were more of a puzzle. The enemies and resources could be deterministic, and time would only elapse when the player takes an action. (This thought is inspired by that old GROW cube flash game)
- One last idea would be a challenge where you manage several individual planets at the same time (maybe the lore is that you are a ground station controlling separate robots) in a sort of split screen. Could add to the hectic nature of the game
oh! also, if you want ideas on how to expand the game, i would reccommend a building system and a way to revisit old planets. like survivng a star system, ooh. this would, however, make it more similar to minecraft's sandbox aspects, and kind of like skyblock. i only say this if you want a more unique / differentiated experience.
This is very inspiring. I've been following you since basically the beginning of your channel. I too am learning Game dev and this really makes me excited to see where I'll take it.
I just wish listed the game. It might be worth getting a video up on steam showing its gameplay. Great work.
Thanks motioncache, I really appreciate that! I should get a trailer together at some point. Good luck with your games and show off your progress!
@emeralgamedev thanks for the encouragement! I started to upload some progress.
this idea is genius... I never played Minecraft because I think you have to dedicate too much time to it but I love escape games and your game is great... I'll definitely play it
Been watching since the first time you uploaded and it's amazing how far you've come. Your editing/storytelling has always been amazing too, I really enjoy your videos man, looking forward to playing this eventually (or whatever you release).
Hey, thanks! I really appreciate that, Dan!
It looks very cool, can’t wait to see where it goes
I would love to play this game if it came out! One tweak I'd like is if you changed the HUD. I feel like its too similar to minecraft as well, and as a resource counter, an inventory bar at the bottom like that doesn't seem as useful/appealing. Maybe just a counter with symbols to the side. Hope to see more of it :)
It's great to see somebody progressing from absolute beginner in your first videos to making something that looks like it could be a real game that people would play not *just* because it's by some youtuber. Your lighting in particular really sells it for me. Your gameplay design also sounds like it could be pretty satisfying to master, though I'm not completely convinced that the different "worlds" you describe at the end would really be novel enough to keep things interesting and fresh. But it's hard to say without actually playing the game. If there were a demo, 100% chance I would download it and give it a try though. And either way, your progress is a real inspiration to folks like myself who are much earlier in the process of mastering video game development.
Thanks Xeostube, I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement!
Im a fan of games with narrative so i was thinking ...What if the main character is one of many clones sent to survey the galaxy or save planets that have the potential to one day spawn life? And the main character is just looking for a place to call home?
The meteor was a great way to make Speck Miner mission based instead of being a sandbox 🪐 Very cool!
Gene Shalit, is that you LOL? But seriously, love the video!
I don't like open world games, but this one sounds pretty interesting, especially if it has an overarching goal or resolution to a conflict it's building towards.
This game is amazing. The exploring planets component and needing to adapt to the habitats makes me think of the Interstellar movie. Also has a Super Mario feel. Can’t wait to see where this goes!
I've never been too interested in Minecraft itself but this is a great concept, wishlisted!
you should add a walking animation for the creepers
I can't wait for the day this channel gets super popular. Your content is awesome!
Added! I was literally thinking, "Wow I would totally play this"
Thanks, Brennan!
This is awesome
Looks sick!
this game has great potential. if u improve the combat system it will be amazing to play, in addition to the other expansions you already mentioned.
I very much appreciate the Steve from Blue's Clue's.
Is nobody gonna talk about Blue's Clues Steve as Minecraft Steve?
I think this would be a great game! you should add a pet system maybe?
Why is this so underrated 😢😢
The only thing I'd really say is I'd make everything smaller by half in terms of size , the basic idea is nice but the planets look too small from the footage you've said especially the more indepth lens you go into at the end
14k views is criminally underrated man
👏good game👏
"That's when the scary 💅baddies💅 come out"
(Joke)
Cool! Pale blue block!
A game to play yay
Awesome 👍👍
I put some ideas in a steam discussion. I know you said Discord, but I don’t have discord 😅.
i like the idea of this game and it just looks cool!!
it does look like it could become a full fledged game.
at least, to me, it seems like it could.
and i like it of how the name, [speck miner] the " . " on the " i " becomes the world. it just gives it this cool/awesome vibe.

Este tipo ha trabajado mas que todo el equipo de Mojang
You should try the defold engine also u helped me get into game dev thanks alot
This is awesome, Emeral! I love it! I wanna play it!
Wow, I've seen your 1 year update. You're inspiring! How much time do you tend to dedicate towards game dev stuff?
I want to create a little game with ps1 graphics but I lose hair trying to succeed with the programming part
Thanks! They tend to take longer and longer haha. But usually a month or so to get a small prototype working. As far as starting out, just start really really small!
Bro. Earth did get bigger 💀💀💀
I was gonna make a dumb comment about the fact that I happy because video Emeral as usual, but I ended up having a lot more to say.
First, it's funny because I happen to be making a Voxel engine from the ground up (OpenGL and C++), which will eventually turn into a minecraft clone (I'm already thinking of game design ideas). So it's really nice to get your take on it, how you tried to avoid being a basic knockoff and make a unique version of the idea.
Second, Minecraft is not 60 000 000 meters squared, it's 60Mm * 60Mm, which is 3.6*10^15m2, or 3 600 000 000km2 (Earth is 510 072 000km2, so 7.05 times smaller as you showed). Your game is 0.00229km2, or 1 571 000 000 000 times smaller than Minecraft instead of 26 000 times as you said.
Third, about making it a fully fledged game, to me it feels to much like a "mini game" because of the fact that there are like 8 crafts (all showed) and 4 "placeable" objects, and I don't think I (And I emphasize on the "I") would play more than one planet. THAT SAID, it kinda felt like you didn't know where you were going with this until deep into the project and it still turned I out good, so I am pretty sure that if you wanted to make the core loop better (Again, that's my opinion, I love complex automation games so this is really on the opposite side of the spectrum) you would be able to find a lot of ways to achieve that goal.
And as always, YEAH NEW CRAZY GUY CONTENT
Haha, thanks for checking my math! I agree that it does feel like a mini game as it is now. I'm thinking that each planet would have its own set of items/ enemies/ goals so there'd be a lot of variation. What I'm not sure about is what, if anything should be carried between planets. Or if the player's stats and abilities increase or something. Thanks for watching and for the feedback. Good luck on your engine and game!
@@emeralgamedev The more thoughts I put into this, the more I feel like the issue is that the progression is VERY linear. The beauty of minecraft partly comes from the fact that you can basically do what you want. Want to explore and never have more stuff than a wooden sword and axe? Fine! Want to go underground, stuff your chests with diamond and never see the light of day again? Go ahead! Maybe there could be multiple ways to win, like you can escape (With a ship, or by reactivating this weird portal-like ancient structure), or survive by destroying the asteroid, or by moving the planet away from its course. It feels like something along those lines could be the missing piece for me (again, that's just my opinion)
And thanks!
U r great sir
Can u givee any suggestions for learning unreal engine as a beginner
I think this could be a great rogue-like game, sorta like Noita? I see some potential and would probs buy it!
Looks fun! Excited to see more!
You are really getting better at making games my dude. Very impressive to watch you grow!
Hey, thanks Skylor!
when are you gonna release it on your site ? I am waiting
anyways good video
Make a game in phone using it's magic engine!
This game looks awesome!
There’s also Minecraft on a calculator
where did you build the game
New video when?
How rain if no atmosphere
haha, true!
Bro can you make in python
Is this something that is still happening??
I'm not sure to be honest. It's on the backburner for now as I develop a little mobile game, but I'd like to come back to it.
@@emeralgamedev well ill be keeping it on my wish list good luck with your moblie game.
I wish you good luck with your game since it’s awesome
I approve
Brrawo.U R beautifull man.pls mae some times mods for minecraft.dorood2u
*make
You could add a lerp to the camera rotation to make it a little less disorienting when you turn rapidly.
Bruh
cool game, the camera looks kinda disorienting tho
Thanks! I agree, it do need work!
how tiny are we talking?
so tiny!
So underrated
Hello, could you make a cooperative mode the same or similar to Resistance 2, please?
I just wish listed Speck Miner! I really hope it gets enough to get made. Go do it for EMERAL!
Hurray, thanks MothPlum!
I approve to @mousethecat69420 ( nice name )
