Adam, another lovely submission from your island paradise. Hopefully you and Paul were on a recon for additional workshop opportunities as well. Cheers to both of you!
Speaking of camera gear, I shoot with the Canon R5 and 24-105 F4L lens. That's it. If I can't get it with that, no sweat off my nose. It might seem a bit limiting, but it's nice just having one lens. Then again, the Canon R5 can allow you to crop in quite a bit if you need to. I've been using this setup for a couple years now and I'm happy with it. The only other set up I would consider would be the rf28-70 and rf70-200. But that would cost about $7,000 so.. nah lol
Thanks for the videos Adam. I've been a fan for years. Just saw my first Arbutus trees on a recent trip to the California-Oregon border area. I can see why you photograph them! Fabulous trees that really pop in the rain. The bark is spectacular as you know. Sadly, I couldn't stop in the rain, but a few days later I took some pics in the harsh sun and even those were decent. Thanks for the channel. Cheers.
another awesome vlog, Adam. I have been to Ucuelet many times. Woken up before the sun and used a headlamp to guide me to that part of the trail. Kind of scary alone. Since 2016 I've been a fan of your channel and your photos. Thanks for everything.
I always like seeing the raw file first and playing "guess the crop". More often than not im now guessing correctly so i must be learning from you. Lovely video Adam, this is you at your best (in my opinion). Bit disappointed you didnt take the opportunity of a clear night to increase your milky way portfolio😀
Nice journey. Loved the ones of the trees in the mist. You read my mind on the photo @ 14:30. I was thinking, "What might that look like in B&W, and there it was!" Safe travels!
For battery charging, I now have a couple of batteries that can be charged directly from USB-C so I can use any powerbank to charge my camera batteries, and other devices. Of course, the nice thing about your device is that it encloses the batteries, so it's fewer fiddly wires.
You might want to get your butt down to the French Creek Estuary not on the marina side but the opposite side (directions to follow). The salmon are running and the harbour seals are coming in and jumping and diving for the fish. Quite dramatic with sometimes 4 or 5 jumping roughly at the same time. Yesterday I got a shot of two playing salmon tug of war to see who would get the salmon. Eagles will walk the shores. I have been going roughly around 1:00 PM when the tide is fully in, the seals swim further up the river. Directions: Cross the stinky bridge just past the turn off for the marina, take the first right after the bridge, roughly one hundred yards (if you take the left instead you end up at Windsor Plywood), drive down the road till it T's, take a right on this road that dead ends in a circle. Once you are in the circle you will see a dirt road going off to your left, drive on it, many deep potholes, and park at the overlooking river area.
about time Adam is plugging a product =) ..Very nice tempo on todays video. It felt very natural and I really felt it on the waterfall. I've got some of those myself. One time there was an amazing shot. after that, the conditions nor the weather have been enough to bother capturing anything there. But I seem to keep hoping. But I wonder why are you looking at FullFrame for hiking, when you really want MFT, you know. Olympus. Talk with Henry Turner, Adam. You are going to be amazed.
Vancouver Island is the best for magical fog! Except for those weird days when it's completely clear in the places we least expect it. 😂😂 Tofino/Ucluelet always do that to me, hahaha. Still magical though, always. 😊 Amen to
Thanks Adam. Great video as usual. I spend a lot of time in the wilderness too. The weirdest human interaction I had was coming across 5 or 6 people dressed in what can only be described as green rags stitched together, circling a tree holding hands and chanting and wailing. It was in the middle of nowhere. When they saw me, they went silent and just stared at me with angry and annoyed expressions on their faces. Really creeped me out as I watched Blair Witch Project just before that happened. I tipped my had and said 'Afternoon' and got out of there quickly. Was tempted to ask for a photo, but thought the better of it. I would have preferred a bear.
Love this area and you have captured some wonderful photos and video! Btw your vlogging done on an OP3? Nicely done regardless. As for your point about wildlife; I spend a lot of time hiking or backpacking alone in the mountains or forest and rarely every ‘worry’ about wildlife (but always respectful and aware’, but more more concerned about ‘people/yahoos”. Usually the closer I am to a large city the greater the awareness and concern!
Stunning video as always. Would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the canon vs the Fujifilm. You should check out the Nikon z system, as I think they are more like the Fujifilm in terms of colours.
How do you like the Shimoda Urban Explorer? I picked up the 25L bag three months ago to use locally and like it. It holds my camera, three lenses, filters, and a few other odds n ends. The bigger the bag, the more I pack into it. Once again, another great video and some wonderful images!
Adam, I’m curious, when you have a busy scene in the woods, why don’t you open the aperture on your camera more to soften the background. I’m not much of a forest photographer so your reasoning for that would be helpful.
It was calm. Generally if you keep an eye on the weather out there you can easily predict wave action. This past week would have been good out there I would imagine
Adam, if you reached a verdict on the 24-240, could you please let us know your thought in an upcoming video? I shoot Canon, and it would be a great 1-lens solution when I have to pack light. I have the technical spec's. I just need an opinion from someone I trust! Cheers!
What'd you think about that 24-240? I've been eyeing it for a while and not made the decision yet. It seems to pass technical reviews okay but that's not the same as actually using it. Love that second image with the leaning tree. The subframing with a dash of color in the back is spot on.
Seems okay. I didn’t really have a chance to use it much but I do like the range it offers. The sharpness etc seems great. I didn’t have a chance to try it out at every focal length
Well Adam you have some very nice clean shots with that Cannon but if you're looking for something for a one lens and one camera you might want to veer off the cannon side unless of course you can get the lens for it and go over to the Nikon which one I don't remember but the lens is a 28 wide and for the zoom which is part of this lens which goes up to 400 mm so you have a 28mm WA-400mm zoom from Nikon and if memory serves me correctly and which it might and may not It also has a very good weather sealing built into it You might want to give that a try
@QuietLightPhoto No problem Adam Hope you can find the lens and camera for your camping trips As for me next year I will be purchasing the 18-270 for my Pentax k70 that lens will actually live on that camera it will not be taken off
@QuietLightPhoto Now if they made a lens adapter for that 28-400 so I could use it with my Pentax K1 Mark II or my k-70 I would buy that lens and adapter
just a thought Do you really need to change system for hiking?, R6 + 24-240mm = 1420g, GFX100s +50mm f/3,5 + 100-200mm =2300 g that is 900 g heavier, just do pano with the 50mm, no problem to cover 24mm I'm using gfx 100s and 50mm myself,
I was there a few years ago and was told by an ‘old timer’ that there definitely was a shift. He too remembered it as you pictured it. Nature is truly amazing.
"I'm more worried about weirdos than wildlife." That should be a t-shirt! 😆
Hmm I might go for that
@@QuietLightPhoto I'll buy one!
In Australia too, despite our wildlife's reputation!
I’d buy one. It’s true. 😬
Exactly, it's the 2-legged beasts I look out for, not the 4-legged ones.
That foggy pano at 8:54 🔥🔥🔥.
Cheers!
Adam, Land & Light landed this week. Thank you, and congratulations. A stunning collection! The Abraham Lake images are beautiful.
Awesome thanks for grabbing a copy
Adam, another lovely submission from your island paradise. Hopefully you and Paul were on a recon for additional workshop opportunities as well. Cheers to both of you!
Cheers, Paul!
Beautiful shots on Vancouver Island, great natural scenery, nice video my friend. 20:04.
Many thanks!
Great video guys,. I love the twisted and snarled tree's with the moss. Beautiful, keep up the good work. Adam, you got me with the Canon R6 mk2
Thanks 👍
Loved the Fog! Ucluelet Wild Pacific Trail gives you so much to shoot on such a comfortable short trail.
It certainly does👍🏼
Adam really like when you show before and after of your photos. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Will do!
Such a stunning place you live Adam. One day I'll get there.
It is a lovely place for sure

Cool seeing the two of you out shooting. Love seeing the beautiful area through your eyes. Keep it going!
Cool video. I have a shot of the loop in the gnarly tree with my son sat on it from our first trip to Van Isle in 2013. Great memories!
Nice!
I’m always envious of where you live.
Thank you ever so much again, Adam, for an entertaining video and really nice shots! Kind regards, Martin
Our pleasure!
Lovely video and beautiful shots Adam!
Happy to say I just got a notification that your book has arrived at the post office. Can't wait to see it !
Awesome, thank you!
Just ordered land and light can’t wait to get it ❤
Excellent, thanks!
I love the beautiful foggy forest shots! Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
Thanks for the great video Adam, lovely location, love the gnarly trees.
Glad you enjoyed it
The “rain forest” island of Vancouver is quite mystical.
It is indeed

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I’m in the UK for the next few weeks.
Hey, you’re cooking my tortellini!! lol
Lovely video. Always love your mossy trees 🌳🌲🏝️
Hmmm, tortellini 🤤
Your videos are a real pleasure to watch…thank you!👍👍👍
So nice of you
This was really good!
Thanks!
Thanks, Bobby!
I would have thought that first image to “busy” but it really worked out!

Now I would love to buy a t-shirt about the weirdos vs wildlife! When are you going to make it Adam?
I’ll see what I can do
Enjoyed your video thanks for posting 👍
You bet!
I'm the same, always more concerned with people than wildlife. really like the fog at 9:04
Thanks Brian!
Don't much about the lens but you can't go wrong with the canon r6 2 it is a great camera body eric hansen thanks for the great video
Great photos Adam.
Thanks James!

Yep that sounds about right, weirdos 😂
Great video again🐉🌷🍓👍😀🇫🇮!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
@QuietLightPhoto Have a nice Day sir. 👍😀 In Finland we go to sleep.
Nice one again Adam. Im using Nikon Z and the 24-200 is a great lightweight allround lens for hiking.
Good choice!
Interesting about the directional changes in the waterfall. Maybe the "weirdos" caused it! HA!! Loved the assortment in this one.
Bloody weirdos😆
Picked up the 500mm a few months back - it’s an incredible lens. Tempted to sell off the 100-200 & 1.4x
Great!

Yes I use the pocket 3 it’s convenient more than anything.
4:22 I liked the raw file more 😊
Oh well can’t win em all
Perhaps the river bed has lowered around the boulder due to erosion; thats why it does now not flow over the rock !
I suspect so or perhaps the area was dammed by debris
Stunning video as always. Would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the canon vs the Fujifilm. You should check out the Nikon z system, as I think they are more like the Fujifilm in terms of colours.

Thanks Dennis. It a nice bag, reserved for fancy cameras🤣
Adam, I’m curious, when you have a busy scene in the woods, why don’t you open the aperture on your camera more to soften the background. I’m not much of a forest photographer so your reasoning for that would be helpful.
Personally I find it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference. If I want to fade the background slightly it’s very easy to do in post. Thanks!
Thanks... checked out the power bank.... only $136 cdn but better with a discount code :-)
Nice video! I want to go to Ucluelet in January to shoot the huge waves. How were the waves when you were there?
It was calm. Generally if you keep an eye on the weather out there you can easily predict wave action. This past week would have been good out there I would imagine
@@QuietLightPhoto Yeah! Hopefully I'll get some big ones hehe. ✌Cheers!

Unfortunately I didn’t have it long enough to give a good review but as far as I can see from the few results I have it’s a spot on lens
What'd you think about that 24-240? I've been eyeing it for a while and not made the decision yet. It seems to pass technical reviews okay but that's not the same as actually using it.

Do you really need to change system for hiking?, R6 + 24-240mm = 1420g,
GFX100s +50mm f/3,5 + 100-200mm =2300 g that is 900 g heavier, just do pano with the 50mm, no problem to cover 24mm
I'm using gfx 100s and 50mm myself,
Every gram counts.
Enjoy your videos but you really need to start being more conscious of how many tomes you say "ah'. It becomes quite annoying and hard to listen to.
I’ll try to keep that in mind with all of the other annoyances people object to. It’s hard to keep track.
@@QuietLightPhoto lol
I was there a few years ago and was told by an ‘old timer’ that there definitely was a shift. He too remembered it as you pictured it. Nature is truly amazing.
Comparing the photos of the boulder, I’d say it has been moved by water flow and erosion.
