With this fourth episode of Revisiting Evil - sorry it's taken so long - we've completed the originally planned run.
So the big question is: do we return (no doubt in 2024) to discuss the remake of Resident Evil 4 as well?
Terrifying? I do not know, dude. I always ended up running towards her for some reason.
My original video title got flagged by UA-cam for being a little too um.... NSFW 😅
Wait, you mean that I was supposed to be afraid of dommy mommy?
Terrifying... uh... Yes. Definitely. Absolutely nothing else.
scarousing
It was Mr. X for me, I believe the only "true", dynamic pursuer
Every other (even OG Nemesis) relied too much on scripted moments, and only a handful of real patrolling
On the more aesthetic side of horror they are grotesque in their own ways and they are imposing, confident to a point of insanity, and it’s the feeling of helplessness we feel when they walk off anything we throw at them until their actual bossfight.
Lucas Baker was such a let down, honestly. They do interesting things and he's kind of forgotten. I think they did elevate it a bit with Village as Heisenberg mostly, but Moreau and Donna/Angie due at least have enough bits and interesting locations that even if they don't stalk you, you still remember them.
Also, I LIKE Ethan! I'll give you he's a bit bland but what DRIVES someone to go to middle of no where lousiana to find your wife after she just sends an email? I mean, I know why. But like... by yourself? With all the warning signs? And no sign of life other than an email that makes it sound like she got drunk and misplaced her care about 10 miles away?
As for RE4. I mean, I'd love it. But if it just retreads from the last RE4 episode, it's not worth it.
Could you explain why you find Lucas a let down?
@@spouwnerring Sure! it really comes down to a few things that are just... kinda there.
This is when you start getting more weapons that work, so he just throws enemies at you which especially on repeated playthroughs is less interesting or tense than being tracked by Jack and Marguerite. His Saw gimmick really only works the first time. He also has the misfortune of being in the middle with a less visually interesting set up. He has the same types of areas with everyone else, same colors, same repurposed house, etc. At least Moreau has the outside lake for his fight which gives some variety. The middle of these things do tend to lag a bit. The boat could slip into this, but you also get to play as Mia and fill in a lot of story blanks which give enough variety as you restock your arsenal which make it a bit tense again.
It's not anything against Lucas himself. I do think the Saw gimmick is fun on the first playthrough and his slot in the overall story is interesting. I wish he could have become a repeating villain, maybe taking Wesker's spot. But it really has more to do with gameplay balance and locations, which is just a common struggle.
I mean I always ran from Lady Dimitrescu with no hands on the controller.
Oh, definitely look at changes in 4 remake.
Jack Baker definitely but Lady D I thought was pretty boring because of how transparently on-rails her sequences were.
There was very little pressure to avoid her because the game was designed for you to easily escape whereas Jack was more complicated
Love seeing videos about my favorite game series!
Have to admit, I liked Resident Evil better when it was more about abominations produced by a virus that mutates the host rather than the super natural stuff, weird goo and super soldiers with Neo reflexes. Maybe it's that "could happen" barrier in my head that was jumped later with Code Veronica, but I found it more terrifying when it was "closer" to reality.
Good games anyway, but don't leave a mark like the first few games (especially RE1 Remake).
its still about viruses tho
@@gabrielandy9272 Sure but Super Humans even the odds and that's not what I want from a scary game.
Jason Vorhees isn't frightening to Freddy Krueger u know ;)
Fairly sure the shift of RE into first person and focal bigbad was aided by the success of alien isolation
Don't forget that, critical acclaim aside, commercially Sega considered Alien Isolation to be a failure. RE7 was far more successful.
Good stuff 👍 Thank you 💜
Ah yes Dimitrescu
Terrifying 👀👀
Hi,
And wow, yeah you're absolutely right. Japanese games dont really do first person. Ghost Wire Tokyo was the only other game i could think of. Subtle perspectives like that are why i watch.
Thanks, take care and have a good one
theres so much untapped potential to make a really compelling horror game with no supernatural elements whatosever. the scariest moments in the resident evil series are when you're unarmed trying to avoid Jack in the early hours of RE7, and for all you know he's just an insane person. thats honestly way scarier than a sci fi monster or zombie because it feels real. the same problem i have with condemned criminal origins. I really think "realistic horror" needs to become a thing.
Hasn't there been quite a few of these of more indie-ish origin? I think RE series should stay somewhat unhinged, indeed i'm not convinced that it's been moving in the right direction.
More!
I must be the only one who's terrified of Lady Dimitrescue mostly because the first things I noticed is her face and personality, for as sexualised as she is by SO many people I simply couldn't, or wouldn't look at her from everyone else's point of view, I only see the more intimidating aspects and features of her like her height and her face as she menacingly walks towards you, there's a psychotic edge to her and her smile that's just as prominent in Jack Baker, her height for me personally is actually quite intimidating,I mean something that tall walking towards you sounds pretty intimidating, at least for me anyway, her personality is interesting to say the least, I don't know if it's intentional but she has a comedic edge when she argues with Heisenberg, like sibling rivalry if you will but as soon as she gets angry that's when I start to get pretty nervous, there's a ruthlessness about her that to me makes her feel more cruel, her face on the other hand is also pretty interesting coz the only time I saw her with an expression of fear or shock was when Ethan stabbed her, before then she looked like she felt in control and, well arrogant, when she's happy there's a sadisticness about her smile that makes her look cruel
Jack is terrifying for some people, Lady DImitrescu was a bit irrelevant in gameplay terms, is not even scary.
Idk man Mr X will always be W
You guys finds lady dimitrescu terrifying ?
i didn’t find lady dimitrescu attractive at all because she is trying to kill me…
I dont like lady dimitrescu, she is boring, her abilities are just having claws and regenariton, thise are abilites almost all the bosses in this franchise have, and her flying mutation looks really weak when compared with previous bosses
🥛
The question is:
What makes Alien so terrifying from Alien Isolation ?... 😏
Nothing, who actually got scared by them? lmao
