Good Job Alfie!! Roberto & I go waaaay back to our 1st US tour in ‘90..Always a gentleman!!
Thanks Rex! Nice to see you in the comments, I hope you enjoyed it! If you have any stories I wanna hear them!
Oh damn! This comment section looks now like Heavy Metal's Hollywood Boulevard ! Stocked to see Rex commenting here ! Always loved your Ampeg and Tech21 magic tone ! Those Spector's are the reason I felt in love with the brand, Jason gets the credit too lol Cheers from Morocco
Great content! Ozzy always had top calibre players. The Budokan lineup of Rob, Zakk and Mike Bordin was always my personal favourite.
That is a killer line up of musicians for sure.
Feels like it's been years since asking... Thank you Alfie! 🙏❤️
It's been a long old time Newkid. We'll finally finish the Metallica trilogy next time!
Let's go Alfie, nice to see you back! been binging your old video's and i'm glad to say i still enjoy them as much as before. keep it up man!
Thanks JJ! I really appreciate that dude, I'm glad they still hold up! Hopefully I'll see you in the chat later!
@@WhichBass : Alfie great videos and info brother. Back when I was growing up, you had to get Guitar Player or Guitar World, to learn about equipment guys were using. I noticed Rob had his Peavey 2X15 loaded with EV speakers. Most likely EVM 15B’s! Also I know you’ve done a Geezer video but have you’ve done or going to do more vintage rigs like Berry Oakley or Felix Pappalardi? Thanks, brother.
Ohhhh yes I've been waiting for this kind of video since I knew the bassist Robert Trujillo.. Thank you so much for making this video! Keep up the good work! This is truly awesome..
Thank you for the kind words! So glad you enjoyed it!
Great to have you back, man, Rob is definitely a damn great player and it was super fun to learn about his stuff with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves and Ozzy. Would definitely love to see a video for Roger Waters or Paul McCartney sometime in the future
Hey Andrew, good to see you back in the comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I think you've asked for Roger and Paul before. Both are on my list! Man that'll keep me busy for sure!
@@WhichBass Yeah, I guess I'm just really excited to see you do a video on them. I'll also toss in Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam and Shavo Odadjian from System Of A Down. Can't wait for Part 2 and keep up the awesome work, man
Robert is one of my all time favorite bassist
I've been waiting for this specific Video for ages! Thanks a lot Mate.
Glad you enjoyed it Ero!
The video I’ve been waiting for! Thanks for your series, I can’t get enough.
I hope it was worth the wait Speener! Glad you enjoyed it.
You do great research & present things well. You should not limit your scope to bass guitars, or even any instrument. Bicycles, motorcycles, concert venues, ... The sky is the limit! ✨
Brilliant video Alfie, great to see you back. Can't wait for part two!😎🤘
Thank you Kai! Glad to have you back watching, thanks for commenting!
The amount of effort you put into these is crazy. Happy to have stuff like this around and archived
Thanks Josh! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Cool! I knew eventually you would get to Trujillo.
Have a great holiday season Alfie!
Thanks John! You too! I hope you have a lovely time. Hopefully I'll catch you in the chat later on.
Damn dude, you put a lot of work and research into these videos. I wonder how many hours it took you to put all of this info together. I admire your patience and dedication to your interest. Keep up the good/hard work, pal.
I send my respect from Canada.
Thanks Michael! I really appreciate that dude. It's a lot of hours ... But you know me I never complain ;)
Best wishes to you in Canada!
Dude this is the first time I seen your videos and I enjoyed it and you deserve to get more views for this no one really covered Rob's rig rundown and I am impressed and enjoyed this .. keep it up 👍🏽
Thanks for the kind words Craig, I appreciate that a lot, glad to have you watching. Hopefully you'll enjoy part 2!
I asked for this on the Petey Steele video and you delivered! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Looking forward to Part 2.
Thanks dude! I hope I haven't kept you waiting! Don't miss part 2! ua-cam.com/video/hR-OCANhFps/v-deo.html
Nice one Alfie. I've seen Trujillo with Ozzy, Metallica and his side project Mass Mental. I met him in 2016 too, nice guy.
Thanks Pete, I hope you enjoyed it. Lucky you for seeing him in the flesh! What a legend!
Alfie I remember I suggested this particular topic to you on Twitter a lifetime ago, I’m so excited to finally see it!
Glad we finally got there Alcatraz! Part 2 will get to you as soon as possible!
Nice to see you still doing excellent research on everything bass Alfie..cheers..
Mr Fender J, thank you sir, good to see you in the comments!
Top marks again Alfie. Looking forward to part two.
Thanks a bunch Brian, good to see you dude! I'll see you there!
@@WhichBass Sweet! Gonna watch it again. Did you read his interview with Geddy in his bass book. He talks about the bass he butchered.
I started playing bass because of Robert back in 2003.
Great video, can't wait for part 2!
Almost as long as me! Great stuff Fatpoli, I'll get you part 2 as soon as I can!
This was your best one yet! Rob is one of my favorite bassists
Thanks CJ, I hope you enjoyed it. Wait till you see part 2!
@@WhichBass Can't wait!
Finally!!!! I have been hoping for this vid for so long!!
I hope it was worth the wait Mdog!
Nice work as always Alfie! I've seen Rob play with Suicidal and Ozzy. My favorite metal bassist by far. Love your channel bro...
Awesome Brian! I bet that was awesome. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Good to have you watching.
his back though
GREAT video!
I also love EMG pickups, preamps, pots, and especially their solderless wiring (they are the standard wiring used on all of my custom bass and guitar builds), as well as Ampeg amplifiers (until I recently had to sell it, my favorite amp was my Ampeg SVT 4 PRO, run with on board crossover bi-amp low, below about 700 Hz through a Sonic ported cab with 1 x 18" ElectroVoice (it's about 200lbs. but it thumps like a size 18 boot side kick to the chest, absolutely beautiful!!!), and frequencies above were run through a Sonic sealed cab with 4 X 10" Celestion speakers, and a matched piezo horn. This cab has an internal crossover to split the highest frequencies to the horn. BOTH cabs are equipped with circuit breakers to prevent blowing them (VERY important when running an SVT 4 PRO that can be a tsunami of current as high as 1,600 watts!), AND are equipped with internal lights which can be seen through the speaker, just outside the cones, lighting up when driving a signal approaching the limit of the circuit breakers (... yes, I've lit them up).
Dean Markley strings are great. Used them since early 90's because the cryogenic Blue Steel were the only E and A strings that could survive my most intense playing.
Notes:
Wenge, pronounced WEN-gay
Budokan, pronounced BOO-do-kahn
"Send Me Your Money," and, "I Saw Your Mommy (and Your Mommy is Dead)," are two completely DIFFERENT songs. If it does say that the song was renamed on the website, then that is completely incorrect.
Otherwise, a very enjoyable, interesting, and informative video. 🤘🏼😎👍🏽
Sounds like a great rig Metalbass, great stuff!
Great as always !
Thanks Albert! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Well done Alfie...Excellent as usual 😎🤙🏽💥
Thanks a bunch Tony! Good to see you dude, I hope you and the family are well!
Superb job as usual. keep going man.
Thanks Capitani, glad you enjoyed the video!
Great, magnificent as always sir
Thank you! Leshreddur! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice vid! Really enjoyed it. ST played my hometown of Santa Cruz, Ca in 1991 selling out the SC Civic, wild show.Saw him again with Infectious Grooves when they opened for Ozzy at the Warfield Theater during the Theater of Madness tour, and again with Ozzy this time as a part of his band at the first OzzFest.I saw Robert only once with Metallic when they played here in Costa Rica at Saprissa Stadium. I wish they would come back,we don't get many concerts anymore here in Costa Rica, but it Kirk and Robert want to surf this is the place, pura vida...
Remember the good times Jordy! At leasat you got to see him!
I was pondering just last week when there might be a new vid. Thanks Alfie!
Super! What a coincidence! Glad you enjoyed it Lucy.
@@WhichBass I always do. You are quite professional and very entertaining. I also learn something new everytime I watch. BRAVO
Thank you Lucy, that's so kind of you to say so!
@@WhichBass thank you for working so hard to entertain us.
Great vid Alfie. A close friend of mine had a Trace Elliot rig and Im fairly certain that is the loaner rig seen @ 7:35. My friend had the head with the flourescent lighting on the front bottom panel. He passed a few years ago and I don't recall the model #. Thanks for all and keep up the good work.
Thanks Lace, glad you enjoyed the video. I had considered it was a Trace but the grey colours threw me off. I got tunnel vision looking for a green logo!
I absolutely love all these videos and you can really tell how much effort and research goes into them. I don’t know if you really do requests round here at all but my favourite bassist is Steve Priest of Sweet. He’s been a massive inspiration to me and I love him. His bass history is very interesting and I’d love to see a video all about him and his gear and basses! Keep up the amazing work Alfie!
Thank you Ethan, oh dude. I'm all about requests! I'll see what I can do for Steve Priest. Watch this space!
@@WhichBass Thank you so much Alfie I love your channel so much so I really appreciate the response and the awesome content you make! I’d love to see a video on Steve happen so again thank you :)
Hey brother great to see you making these great videos again and hope all is well with you
Thanks Dan! Good to see you in the comments, I hope you're doing well dude.
@@WhichBass I’m doing good brother and it’s good to see you again
Yeah! I was waiting for this since, idk, always
Keep up the great work!
Thanks Carlos! Let me know what you think after you watch it!
@@WhichBass Sure! See you soon!
@@WhichBass Very nice indeed! I imagine the amount of research required to fill all gaps between jams and live shows. As a suggestion, would be cool to see a Paul Gray's or Shavo's series!
Thanks Carlos, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Paul and Shavo have been asked for a lot. I should get to one of them soon fingers crossed!
Watch Robert's Bass Rig in Metallica ua-cam.com/play/PLw0E3Z43zL4gX6rOVWclZwUT1eCpMT2jJ.html
In the meantime, you can read all the details of Robert Trujillo's bass rig in Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves and Ozzy Osbourne at www.whichbass.co.uk/robertrujillo
I’d love to see a video on Paul grey of Slipknot
I think I must've re-subscribed at least 3 times during this video XD, jokes aside great video and covered as always and I am still waiting for that Jimmy Bain rig history video!
Ah so you're the one!? I looked at the stats of this video and it said I lost 2 subscribers 😂
the effort you put in is great nice work
Thank you Martin, I appreciate that dude.
great as always
Thanks for watching Worker Drone, glad you enjoyed it.
Incredible work as always Alfie (I hadn't heard of a Fernandes 8 string). I'd always wondered what the ST "Unicorn Bass" was.
Thanks Scott! Glad you enjoyed the video. Ah yes, I suppose the APB-8 is a Unicorn in that case! Glad I could share this with you!
I've always thought Mr. Trujillo had some kind of low mid punch kind of like Billy Sheehan. Always having a place in the mix rather than piercing through it.
Thank you so much Alfie. Great job as always!
Thanks Lif! Glad you enjoyed the video. He definitely had a place in the mix with ST and IG. Not so much with Ozzy and Metallica. If you listen to his bass solos in Metallica it's not particularly "interesting"
This is gonna be sick🤘
Another great video, brother! Special request, please do Al Cisneros from Sleep! Signature Rickenbackers, Green Matamps, the sickest envelope filters! You’ll be glad you did, and so will we 😉
Haha thanks Sean! I'll see what I can do!
These videos are so fucking good!! Thanks 🙏
Thanks Mark! I'm glad you're enjoying'em!
great story about Rob, he's my idol, thanks, when will the part come out?
Thanks Mateus, part 2 will be out in a week or so.
You got me with that finger exercise!
Pretty smooth huh! ;)
I’ve been waiting for this one ever since I washed Cliff’s and Jason’s rigs back to back
Sorry for the wait Ryan, this is just the beginning! I hope you enjoy it.
Hey I am new to your channel and really found this informative as I started playing the bass because of Rob, I would like for you to do a video on John Myung from Dream Theater.
Hey Tiven I hope you enjoyed it. John Myung is a great suggestion thanks.
If you look for (in UA-cam) Metallica Swanzey New Hampshire you can see me in the front row (Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies & Danzig). I'm being tossed around by the crowd during the opener "Breadfan" w/ jeans on & no shirt. Security pulls me over the barricade & I face the crowd with my first in the air while jumping up and down lol. That was my 21 yr old self. Now I'm 50 :/ This was the show that Jason Newsted passed out at and Metallica played without him for while. Until he was revived & could come out (just to sing) & then eventually play bass again. But I was also in the front row during ST watching Robert in all his glory :-) Great video & awesome choice of shirt as well as the way you are wearing it. Cheers!
Omg! I remember you told me that years ago! What story dude I love it!
Great video! I’d love to see Mike Starr (Alice In Chains) and maybe Mike Inez who replaced him in a separate video. 🤘🏻
Great suggestion Tyler! I'll see what I can do.
He also played in a band called nickel creek . Playing an upright bass . Song title is smoothie song .
Brilliant video as usual looking forward to part two it was punk that got me into bass some of the artists where
Norman watt Roy
Steve Wilson
J j Brunel
Bruce foxton
Steve severin
To name just a few I guess they didn't use a lot of gear so it probably wouldn't be possible to do a video on one artist but how about 70s English punk bassist's stay safe take care
Thanks Richard! I'll get part 2 to you as soon as possible. That's a great list of suggestions, thank you. I'll see what I can do!
Btw, awesome video, Robert is one of the best bass players I've ever heard
Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it!
@@WhichBass I enjoy watching your every video man
art of rebellion is one of my favorite albums ever. truly classic
Excellent choice!
Thanks man
Thanks Claudio, glad to have you watching.
Still here broo 🔥from 🇦🇷 liked before seeing it ha
Good to see you again Mati! Hope you enjoyed the video!
@@WhichBass Really dig it bro! Keep it up! Waiting for part 2
Hey I was wondering if you ever gotten an ltd bass the b-55fm model and would consider reviewing it?
No Rynnical, I have not. But if you'd like to send me one I'd be happy to review it ;)
Theres no way this just happened. I decided that id go to your Jason vid to ask when the Rob when was coming out. I clicked on YT and saw this. Nice lol
How weird is that?! Better put a bet on the lottery dude!
@@WhichBass last week i found a lottery ticket at the bank near an ATM and havent checked if it won yet.....
Hell yeah this is gonna be good
Hope you enjoyed it Genocyberia.
Nice vid. For you info, at 7:41, the bass rig is a Trace Elliot
Good call, thanks MA L.
I like that 5 string blue bass!
I'm still waiting to see you do a run down of John Entwistles basses and gear!
Me too Space Emo ... Me too XD
Yooooooo I owned that custom 5 string fretless stingray for a little while around 2016. I never knew it was Trujillos but i bought it from a pawn shop here in the LA valley. I regrettably traded it for a very nice jazz bass but now i wish i kept it. I popped off the neck and it looks like it was a 1980 stingray 4 string that was turned into a 5 string and had an ebony fretboard, small lightweight tuners and looks like it had a veneer on the front of the headstock. It played very well but was super heavy.
No kidding?! Oh man. What made you think it was his?!
Finally!! I was getting worried about you, Alfie ;)
Dzienkie Karol, I been working on this for 3 months dude, lots of research! Glad to see you back too!
I bet this episode will be great! Can't wait 😊
Can we get an episode on John Entwistle? I can patiently wait the time it takes to make such a episode
Aahh jez, how long you got Brent?! That'll take a while ... I'll see what I can do ;)
Great video but I spent the whole thing waiting for you to mention Rob's signature Zon Sonus 5 string. I say this because I've got one and if you'd like to see/hear it in a couple of vids, come on over.
Thanks Chris, you'll hear all about Zons in part 2 where he used them in Metallica. Hold tight!
Hello, I am interested in the who's music. Would you mind to also introduce the "OX" john entwistle
Hi Jason, The Ox Is a classic, I hope to get to him eventually.
Noice, I play bass and I like Robert Trujillo a lot. I like his time as the bassist of Mike Muir’s hardcore punk/crossover thrash metal band known as Suicidal Tendencies🤘🏾🔥. Infection Grooves is awesome and funky. Robert Trujillo is an awesome and amazing bass player, cool songwriter and musician. Metallica’s awesome. Other than that, cool:).
Thanks Justin, glad you enjoyed it!
YESSS LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO
man robert trujillo has such a cool history
Yes indeed! This is just the begining.
The loaner gear for the European gigs with ST was Trace Elliot :-)
Could be!
@@WhichBass I only know that because i have played an identical stack :-). Great video, BTW!
Hell Yeah, Brother!
Hope you enjoyed it Rogelio!
Oo hell yeah Been waiting for this iné although not a Massive fan i Still want to know the tidbits. Where do you get All this information?
I think it's interesting whether you're a fan or not! Although I would say that 😎. I get information everywhere and any where. Books, interviews, magazines. Absolutely everywhere. I try and submerge my self in the bassists life and learn everything I can ... Sounds stalkerish when you put it that way. Thanks Jan, yikes.
@@WhichBass insane. I really Wish i could find a similar video on John frusciante
Wow, I didn't know Lemmy had that guitar!?!
Haha, at least you tried 😎🎸
Rob is by a fat margin my favorite bassist.
I don't even listen to the Metallica stuff. His work with ST and Infectious is legendary.
Totally agree Douglas! I hope we see that skill in Metallica one day.
Would you do a video on Matt Freeman from Rancid. He is amazing.
Great suggestion Mark thanks!
I’ll tell you what,
Forcing yourself to live with the fretless for everything (for as much time as it takes) is actually, IMO the best way to become really intimate and comfortable with playing fretless in general.
Oddly enough,
Nowadays even though I have everything from 6 string down,
A lot of times I naturally grab the fretless!
(A 20 year old P bass copy I “jockoed”. I LOVE that bass!!!)
Couldn't agree more. Develop your ear and technique at the same time.
How about Trujillo's replacement in Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves Thundercat?
Great suggestion thanks Jayson.
Hey! He shares a birthday, October 23rd with Bootsy Collins, Weird Al and Myself!
You guys should get together, I'd like to see that!
Those unnamed heads and cabs were trace elliot. I have nathan east's old trace elliots he used in the 90s they rock but they're super heavy
Awesome Ryan, good call.
When will part 2 come?
Next Friday!
@@WhichBass 👍🏼
I wonder if this man talks the same way in person. I feel like everyone on UA-cam has the same format
Yes it is.
👍
Thanks Rene!
I may be taller than Robert. Don't know his stats, but I think it's pretty close. Anyhow, I appreciate his musical abilities.
Well, that's a relief Pete!
I believe he does have an/some ESP Rumble bass(es).
It's an ESP 205, which you'll be seeing more of in part 2 ;)
hey, can you do thundercat ?
Great suggestion Mpampis, I'll see what I can do.
A suggestion, Jaco Pastorius basses!
A great suggestion thanks Alcatraz!

you should do john paul jones next!
A classic! Great suggestion Owen, I'll see what I can do.
can you do you do Nikki sixx rig please?
Great suggestion thanks Tomer.
If metallicas bass tone was all stingray it would be awesome!! I wish that’s what he played on the albums
Would have been weird wouldn't it?!
IMO the best in rock and punk, maybe funk too.
Absolutely!
The bass rig that you mentioned was used in Europe looks like a trace Elliot rig to me
Noted thanks!
7:35 Those are Trace Elliot amps & cabs
Good call thanks!
Ah yes. Roberto Agustín Miguel Santiago Samuel Perez de la Santa Concepción Trujillo Veracruz Bautista.
That's the one!
I think the European loaner gear was Trace Elliot.
Could be!
07:46 is that not a Trace Elliot stack?
Could be!
Oh wow!! My guts are still hurting from laughing at your pronunciation of BUDOKAN!!! After years of listening to Cheap Trick Live at BUDOKAN, the Beatles Live at the BUDOKAN and Deep Purple Live at BUDOKAN. It came as a shock to hear the way you pronounce it, BADOECAN. FYI it's Boodoekahn... I'm sorry, I'm really not poking fun just caught off guard...
Glad I gave you a little giggle Jones! Man, I've only heard of two people live at the Budokan and Ozzy is one of them. It never came up 🤷♂️
@@WhichBass It's all good bro, like I said it was just a little jarring hear it pronounced that way. Google has an awesome pronunciation tool by the way... LoL!!!
I wonder how he even got the gigs like how did he find the tryouts to the bands
It was Kirk Hammet's connection, first as beach surfers, then "LA CONECTA"
I think there was a lot more musician cross pollination back in those days. That's my opinion anyway.
