I would describe FFXIV's battle system as a coordinated dance. The boss has their steps, and you have to adjust your movements to get the best performance out of your given job and follow the boss' dance. How strict that is depends on the fight's difficulty. The second video was a dungeon boss, which it's the easiest kind of boss, for example. That means the steps are usually quite forgiving, they aren't very complex and you have to commit either very big mistakes or repeated ones to die.
As for player number, there are solo content (which you will do alone), 4-players content (Dungeons), 8-players content (Trials and Normal Raids) and 24-players content (Alliance Raids). The most difficult content, with some exceptions, is 8-players content. This is the number they consider is realistic for a group of potential strangers to fully coordinate without placing way too much responsibility on one single player.

    • @SashaTheQwaser
      @SashaTheQwaser 10 місяців тому

Very specifically, the 8-player content is broken into five forms: Trials (Which are generally meant to be big, major story boss fights); Normal Raids (Which are also big boss fights, but tend to require a bit more co-operation among players; They can still be cleared with a fully random party); Extreme Trials (which are normal trials that are tuned to be harder; More damage coming at the party, more HP to remove, and more mechanics to deal with); Savage Raids (Which are the Normal Raids, but scaled up to a much more complex level. These are one of the things FFXIV has world-first races for); and Ultimate Raids (Which are basically endurance battles lasting anywhere from 15-20 minutes, featuring bosses from various Normal Raid series put into a dazzling display of mechanics.)
The only type of 8-player content that's mandatory for story progression is the normal Trials, but the normal Raids are all parts of their own, mini storylines that tie into the main story, and are generally worth doing.

Don't know who recommended these tracks to you but there are definitely more iconic tracks in FFXIV you should listen to that really show the breadth and depth of the music in this game. Tracks like Metal: Brute Justice Mode, Weight of the World (Prelude Version), Dragonsong, Wayward Daughter, Scream, What Angel Makes Me, In the Balance, the Ruby Weapon theme, etc. being some of the more iconic ones that you could listen to. Also, if you're curious why the OST uploaded on YT are recorded in combat, its because its against ToS to upload FFXIV's music without gameplay and SE is trigger ready to take videos down.

Well to not spoil much on Alexander, Rise isn't really Alexanders theme, its his second phase music but not really his song.
Something closer to what would be Alexanders theme would be his phase 1 and the orchestrated version which plays in the hardest version of his fight.

    - There are a LOT of arrangements of older Final Fantasy music in FFXIV! Off the top of my head, there's music from FF3, FF4, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9 (not just Vamo'alla Flamenco!), and FF12. The original music for XIV is also very, very good, but it's awesome to hear the music you know and love with updated sound fonts--as you found out with Vamo'alla Flamenco!
    - Some (spoiler free) context around Insatiable: That's the first boss of the first dungeon in Shadowbringers, so that's the first time you hear Insatiable at all. Yes, it plays throughout the whole fight. And in that particular video, those were NPCs, but you can also team up with other players.
    - There is a Summoner job, but you only get five total summons--Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Bahamut and Phoenix. And Carbuncle, I guess, but carbies are more like the catalysts for the bigger summons.
    - The context around the eidolons/aions/eikons/whatever you wanna call them that you know are changed in FFXIV. In XIV, they're called primals, and are generally antagonistic and make up most of the big boss fights in the game. There are whole storylines around them, so I won't say more for fear of spoilers, but yeah. This includes Alexander.
    - Yes, Anima is in the game, briefly. Again, context is entirely changed, but it's there--just very late in the story. No, you can't get it as a secret summon as in FFX, sadly. :(
Looking forward to seeing you play! Whether you stream or not, I hope you enjoy it.

Oh yeah, if you like classic FF then you'll love this game. It loves to reference other FF stuff, especially the older games!
They give you outfits for Firion, Advent Children Cloud, Squall, and Zidane as a reward for staying subscribed, Dark Knight does Cloud poses and it does the Limit Break motion, Black and White Mage both get outfits that are exactly what you'd expect, I'm pretty sure the Monk armor directly references Yang, and Ultros makes a few nice cameos. There's even a questline where you have an adventure in Ivalice and get some fun FFXII references with a different thing giving you the Executioner armor from that game.
This game really knows who it's aimed at and it does a really good job of getting the stuff you'd want to see in an FF MMO in while also building new things and having its own feel and story that it sets up over time.

One way to look at ffxiv is like a big homage to all the other final fantasy games because it picks different elements from them and incorporates them into the story or raids but in a way that still makes sense to the lore of the world itself. That is why we have Alexander as a Raidfight.
Edit: Also just in case you needed any more glowing reviews, the creator of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi is playing the game and loved the story himself, so I don't think there is any higher endorsement to be had :D

your reaction to vamo alla flamenco of recognizing it on the first note had me ROLLING :D. also yes, insatiable plays during dungeon bosses throughout the entirety of shadowbringers. for me, it holds the record for one of the best boss themes in the game. it makes my entire guild go bonkers whenever it comes on in something or when some of us are hanging out irl and someone plays it LOL .
as other people have said, most of the summons appear, but only some of them are available to summoner players as a "summon". that said, summoner is a really fun class to play- i do recommend it. last night my guild and i tried to do a fight with five summoners, one reaper and one bard. the bahamuts...they were everywhere. since you said you want to play gunbreaker and you can't unlock that until level 60, arcanist/summoner might be a good in betweener choice until you get there if you like summons! gunbreaker is a tank and i learned it from the ground up. the dps with a gun is machinist! you can unlock them starting at level 50 :)
the video for insatiable is with NPCS, as the game has begun instituting a system where you can clear dungeons with NPCs at your own pace, but you can choose to go in with NPCs or other players.
anima is a new addition to the game since it appears in endwalker, so it's only been here for about a year, don't feel too bad about not having heard of it sooner!
don't worry- by the time you get to something like alexander prime you're at least level 60/90 so you'll have a lot more game experience than you do just watching it, hehe. i can't believe this comment got longer than the ones i've left on your arknights videos. god. anyway, this game is really fun, i hope you enjoy playing it.

There is summoner as a job, it gets 6 summons, Carbuncle, Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Bahamut, and Phoenix, though until you hit basically max level you are summoning little itty bitty versions of them sadly. It also is the only class that shares a level with another class, for silly reasons, that being scholar who summon fairies.
that said the Eicons, Eidolons, Espers, or as FFXIV calls them Primals get FAR more representation, and without out spoiling anything NOTHING is off limits. If it's been a summon there's a good chance it gets at least referenced. The rule of thumb for them is that they are "trials" 8 player boss fights.

7:13 this is the main boss battle theme of the Shadowbringers DLC. If you remember the Shadowbringers trailer, it has the same melody as this one. That's the leitmotif for this DLC :)
Every DLC has its own theme and when you play through it you will find similar leitmotifs of the same theme. Pretty lit if you ask me. There are a lot of OSTs that sound just as good or even BETTER (imo) like Weight of the World (Prelude Version), Wayward Daughter, Dragonsong, Revenge Twofold, and a lot more. Also Insanity is the final boss theme for Shadowbringers with the same leitmotif as the one you listened to earlier, and it is GUUUUUD.

    Mild raid spoilers:
    -
Super worth noting, Alexander is the boss of his own raid quest chain where, I kid you not, Alexander, himself, just IS the dungeon! Like it's a whole cool pocked dimension thing. And he has all kinds of cool robots and stuff inside of him that you fight to get through. If you're interested, I'd highly recommend the themes for that raid, they're all just really cool and interesting. Specifically, Sapphire has a great cover of Locus, and it's just so well done! Super good production values, they do a bunch of fun stuff with getting their own characters involved, it's just so good.
The big ones are Locus, Metal, Eponential Entropy, and Brute Justice. I'd really recommend all of them.
Also worth noting, the actual Alexander Fight has a whole time stop mechanic! So when you actually do the fight, it stops every now and then and swaps to a way slower more chill theme when the timestop happens. It's super cool because the song is designed to be so fast and crazy that it works no matter where they make the switch.

    - The Shadowbringers song you listened to 2nd is the generic dungeon boss music that plays in every dungeon boss fight for that expansion, and every other expansion has a different generic dungeon boss theme.
    - The Summoner job does get to briefly use summons throughout their rotation, specifically Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Bahamut, and Phoenix once you unlock them all.
    - The clip you watched of the Shadowbringers boss fight was a player with 3 npcs, but you can also do it with a group of 4 players which tends to go much faster.
    - Party sizes vary based on the content. Dungeons are groups of 4 (1 tank, 1 healer, 2 dps), trials, raids, and ultimates are groups of 8 (2 tanks, 2 healers, 4 dps), and alliance raids are 3 groups of 8 (1 tank, 2 healers, 5 dps each) working together
    - The Alexander video was from the perspective of a Machinist. It's a ranged dps job w/ a gun, plus a bunch of crazy tech like flamethrowers and a killer robot.
    - The level for boss fights like Alexander vary. Alexander was added when the level cap was 60 so that's the requirement for his fight, but there are similar fights that get unlocked every 10 levels starting at level 50 based on which expansion the fight was added in, with the current cap being level 90. The game has a system of syncing your level down to the appropriate level of that content meaning that unlike other mmos the content isn't immediately obsolete when level cap increases and you can still actively find groups for all of it. Syncing down does mean losing access to high level abilities though, so the higher level content is generally more fun since you can do more.

In FFXIV dungeons have a light parties, a Tank a Healer and two DPS. Raid content (Trials and raids) have Full Party, basically 2 Light Parties. 2 Tanks 2 Healers and 4 DPS. Finally theres Alliance Raids where there are 3 full parties. In the Shadowbringers boss them vid they were NPCs through a system they added called the Trust. They've now added Duty support to most story dungeons which are also NPCs. So if you don't want to play with people you can.

  • @dracocrusher
    @dracocrusher 10 місяців тому +3

So not only is Summoner in the game, it's also genuinely great and really beginner friendly. It does really solid damage, is super easy to play, and it can revive people... which is HUGE since it can easily save a run. Leveling Summoner also levels Scholar, which gives you a healing fairy for that class, so if you want to try out Healer you'll always have a higher-leveled option for it if you main Summoner.
    Gameplay spoilers:
You start with Carbuncle and you get a skill that lets him enhance your Ruin skills, then you start getting little spirits for Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda. So you use Carbuncle's skill for a bit and then you get some stuff where you use each of the other summons back to back, meaning you're just going from Summon to Summon while barely spending time casting your own un-enhanced spells (mostly Ruin). After a bit you unlock Bahamut, which is just the giant full-on thing, and it floats behind you and does all the cool stuff you'd expect it to! It replaces your Carbuncle mode as a straight upgrade, but it's so cool! And then you get Phoenix and it basically replaces your Bahamut phase every OTHER cast. So you start a fight, go Bahamut, do Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda spirits, and then you use Phoenix, who hits harder and also heals the party when he comes out (because of course, right?)
Eventually you get the full versions of your three starting summons, too. So you're just running up, doing Bahamut, and then throwing out the full forms of Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda back to back, and they're super sick! It looks so freaking cool! And the new expansion is going to probably upgrade skills too at the new level cap, so I'm super excited to see what the heck they actually add this time. Who knows? We might unironically get Anima or Alexander as continuations of Bahamut/Phoenix phase, right? Because they're summons in the game, so why not?

Watching this has made me wanna rush over and listen to some more FFXIV songs 🤣 there's some absolutely brilliant songs, a lot which I can't recommend because of spoilers, but I saw a few pop up in the recommended between videos you were watching. The music style range is insane as well you get the more fast paced Alexander Phase 2 you listened to but also epic choirs, slammin rock, unexpected rap, folk wailing (that's a compliment to that particular song as well, if you know you know), and as well as a lot that reference other FF games there are also some that get remixed so it's like twice the joy with another fresh spin on it. I may not have the pleasure of being someone who has played other FF games before but it always brings me joy seeing FF fans discover FFXIV and experience all the references. One thing I really like about FFXIV is that it has a really great learning curve. So that dungeon boss you were watching was from Shadowbringers but the bosses in A Realm Reborn will be much easier. What they do is introduce a consistent series of ways bosses telegraph their moves so as you play through and the raid mechanics from one expansion become the dungeon boss mechanics of the next the progression is very natural. As for the Dancer job, it is my favorite DPS job, but it is an expansion job so you won't be able to play it until you have played another job to level 60 first. I just don't want you to be surprised. If you want to play that job and want a job that will share gear with it you will want to start with Archer/Bard. There is also a Summoner job. The starting job for that is Arcanist and it can become Summoner at level 30. The gunbreaker job is a tank job. It also starts at level 60.
Party sizes are based on content. Dungeons are a "Light Party" of 4 1 Tank, 1 Healer, 2 DPS. Normal raids and Trials are a Full party which is 2 Light Parties so 2 tanks, 2 healers, 4 DPS. There are also Alliance Raids. These are 3 parties composed of 1 tank, 2 healers and 5 DPS each working together.

I'm not sure if this song really counts as one of FFXIV's greatest hits, but the Critical Engagement theme is pretty neat. It plays in a side content mode called Save the Queen when fighting a boss. The tension from the song is usually amplified by the nonsense that is usually thrown at you during one. The video "FINAL FANTASTY XIV - 48 Warriors of Light vs Red Chocobo" shows off the typical panic when one of the harder fights show up.

  • @maracaegrizzley8734
    @maracaegrizzley8734 10 місяців тому

Okay, basics... I haven't gotten through the whole vid yet but I wanted to point some stuff out. Starting in Shadowbringers a system was introduced that allowed players to run dungeon content with a group of NPC bots. It's called the Trust System and it was a *rousing* success. You also have the option to level up your Trust NPCs so that they can run content with you that they might not have actually been *present* to run at the time, if you happen to have your favorites. Because it was so popular, the effort was put in to go back through the content up to that point and revise the dungeons associated with the MSQ so that they could also be run with NPCs if a player wished under a system called Duty Support. NPCs cannot level in Duty Support, but they can in Trust, if that helps explain the difference. As of Patch 6.5, due out in October, Duty Support will be available in all MSQ relevant dungeons across the whole game. The only exceptions are 8-person Trials and the Alliance Raid series, the Crystal Tower, which is a 24-person piece of content but has been made required because of MSQ Reasons in late Shadowbringers and beyond.
As for the likes of Anima et al... Summoners exist in Eorzea, they branch off the Arcanist class that you can choose to start with or you can unlock later if you want. They can, as they progress, call upon... smaller iterations of the summon monsters, or Primals, that you are familiar with. The primals are generally the objects of the above mentioned 8-person Trials, which are generally just a big boss fight. The Summoner gets access to Bahamut, Phoenix, Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda while starting with Carbuncle as a Level 3 (I believe) Arcanist. Yeah, Carbuncle shows up early in progression.

And before I forget, the only musical suggestion I really have is a track that is, I believe, called The Warrens. It's the background music for a level 50 dungeon that is encased in snow and ice and there's this... piercing *beauty* to the track that takes my breath away every time I hear it. The dungeon is called Snowcloak, if that helps.

FFXIV is an absolute love letter from the devs to all Final Fantasy fans. So many references, call-backs and fan service moments that you don't NEED to know about to play the game, but enhance the experience so much more. There are several names that I could say that would immediately give a knowledgeable player flashbacks to their childhoods that are included in the game. If you love Final Fantasy, this is your home. Welcome to Eorzea.

summoner is a job in the game, it only gets 5 summons called egi and demi primals, you use 4 at a time with one being a timed extra source of damage, the other three are a set of essentially bullets that you load into a chamber that you fire off in different ways, at least at 90, other than that summons are kinda...bad for the planet. the way the primals (this game's name for summons) work is that they are summoned using a lot of aether and then continue to feed, making them parasites that can drain the planet dry if we don't stop them

For any needed clarification, Gunbreaker (the job using the gunblade) is a tank you get access to the moment you hit 60 on any other job, so you will need to pick a different job to start as. You mentioned summons, but there is a Summoner job you can be as well, very thematic magic caster DPS that uses summons to augment and summons them as attacks. The gun in the alexander fight is just a Machinist, they use guns and technology for ranged non magical dps.
If you truly intend to get into the game, be wary of spoilers and finding out about references too early, there a lot of really cool ones and definitely better to see them at the intended reveal most times. So be careful with youtubes algorithms and it wanting to show you 14 music videos, like your surprise with the anima thumbnail.

The one thing i would like to preface.
The way you know the Eikons/summons/(in game) primals work fundimentally different. So a lot of these summons are primarily antagonistic to testing of humanitys mettle. A part is in large as you go throug the story you find out.
A Bit of a tip. The ARR raid is called the Binding Coils of Bahamut it had 3 tiers. After that the Heavensward raid is called Alexander. Also yes Angels do judge the worthy so it does fit the theme but i really refuse to go deep into what Alexander is for the universe.
A lot of the raid content be it the 8 man and 24 man is what would be considered B plot. While class/job stories are C plot. The MSQ being your A plot. And up to storm blood a lot of your B and C plots get wrapped around the MSQ.
Dragoon, Monk, Ninja being the three classes that have a A plot tie in for both heavensward and stormblood. Any artisan class and gathering class tends to get tossed in here and there for the light hearted bits.
There are job class guides that range from silly to serious with Larryzur and Jocat being on the silly side.
Another thing while there is a Summoner Class (and scholar) due to how busted summoning a primal can be...well they hit them with a nerf bat rather HARD/made the job work in thr confines of an MMO.

MMOs can be a lot, especially if they are around for 10 years like FFXIV. My tip would be, dont stress about Jobs to play(you can freely switch and level them all on one character) and stick to the MSQ and blue unlock quests for the beginning, they will teach you all the basics and show you the world.

On job choice, you won't be able to start Gunbreaker until you get to level 70. Until then, since you like summons, you might consider starting as an Arcanist. At level 30, it allows access to Scholar and Summoner, a healer and magical ranged DPS. Summoner does spawn summons. Gunbreaker is a tank, so be prepared to deal with that role if you try it out. But its not too hard in basic content. :) If you do that, you'll have access to all three roles. The MSQ provides far more XP than you need to level one job, so between those two you can keep them current. For Summoner/Scholar, they actually work off the same XP bar, so its like leveling two jobs at once.

There are so many callbacks to other FF games, and a lot of iconic songs. I almost lost my shit over the FFXIV rendition of Force Your Way.
One thing to know with the series classic summons/espers/aeons/etc in 14 is that they're broadly called "Primals" and are generally given form from prayer given by their believers. They're not entirely individual beings that have received worship but rather figures of worship born from collective belief, so their appearance and attitude is largely dependent on who it is that is conjuring them at the moment. This leads to some... interesting interpretations when it comes to some recollections of how some encounters with certain Primals went.
    My recommendations for FFXIV videos:
    What Angel Wakes Me
    Under The Weight
    Sunrise
    Equilibrium
    A Long Fall

Welcome to Eorzea if you plan on jumping in!
    EDIT:
Gunblade! Ohhh personally as a tank main, you might enjoy being a Gunbreaker! But you'll have to get a job at level 60 first since Gunbreakers were introduced in Shadowbringers, along with Dancers

And yeah most best music going in the background during trials, raids, alliance raids, dungeons and during the MSQ of the game. ff14 is huge and have a lot of things/fun stuff to do outside of the MSQ too. And can have fun and hang out with other players in the main city's too. The whole game and the MSQ of ff14 was one of my best gaming/story experience ever! Crystalline Conflict is a PvP mode, so those videos can't spoil you. Don't worry you won't have to do it if PvP's not your thing, but it's a fun mode and realizing where the music came from was a treat.

Pretty much all of the series most iconic songs have been remade and snuck into FFXIV in several places. Though I would say FFXIV has many of its own fully unique tracks that are far better than most of these.
Insatiable for example is one of the weakest (though still good) tracks in Shadowbringers.
Also, the good news about Alexander is you can fight him in the free trial! Hes part of Heavansward's endgame. In the story/lore his role isnt just a boss to fight though, his situation is a little complicated.
