Thank you RV Batman Jr. for all your videos. I am a new camper owner of a used 2016 Keystone 28ft Springdale Summerland series. I have learned a lot from your videos before we went on our first camping trip. I took my sisters' advice about taking at least 3 trips no farther than 25 minutes/miles from home because you always either forget something or need to run back home in case something goes wrong and your not to far out from your home if you need to go back.
We upgraded this year to a new camper - had a 2002 Coachmen Spirit of America with no black tank flush system. The tank sensor never gave the same readings - and we all know why!! Our new travel trailer has the flush system. (Which sure beats my 1" pvc pipe with hose fitting on one end and cap on the other with holes drilled into it!!) Thanks for the great video and for sharing this information!
Glad we could help Kevin! If you have not subscribed and clicked the bell icon to get notifications on all our new videos do so now. We are thinking of doing another Q&A video where we post a video telling you guys to ask your questions and 3 weeks later we answer them all in one shot. I think I am going to toss up the idea of doing a live stream too and seeing what you guys think of that.....always looking to improve the channel please let me know how we can help you guys better
These are really well-done, informative and humorous videos. Love 'em! Keep'em coming please. Always wondered about the black water flush valve warning - you are the only person ever to explain why. Thank you! JR, you a funny guy!
On my black tank rinsing process, I have been leaving the valve closed and rinsing. I can hear the spray jets clearly and I monitor my tank level. When it gets about 2/3 full, I can no longer hear the spray valves. I open the valve back up and get a good clean water rush. Also, we leave the black closed and the gray open when camping. The gray fills up frequently with a family of 4 showering. The tank is only 35 gallons and no one besides me knows how to take a Navy shower.
Make sure the black tank valve is open, otherwise you will fill the tank all the way up through the sewage vent at the roof of the camper. Affirmative. 10-4
Great video, I would recommend having a separate hose just for the tank flush and not use ur fresh water hose. Probably overkill but I don’t like the idea of hooking up a drinking water hose to that inlet
Man I hate that. Take your money but not give you an education. Sometimes its because he has never been to a campsite. We are here for you. Ask questions, give ideas for videos make requests. We will help where others fail -JR
Thanks JR. I have a black tank flush system question. I have a 2021 Keystone Cougar half-ton model 24RDS 5th wheel. Do I need to use a water pressure regulator on the hose for the black tank flush? Could not get a straight answer from dealer. I understand my black tank has been emptied and value open. I know you use a water pressure regulator on the drinking hose for city water connection, do not know if I have to use another water pressure regulator on my different water hose, I use for black tank flush. My connections on my 5th wheel are the same as your video except they are in the command center in my front storage bay. Thank again.
Hey jr just got a camper with a black tank flush whenyou say make sure the the valve is open are you talking about the black tank valve on the outside thanks
Thank you! Very informative. Three questions: 1) We use our black tank only for urine (no TP either) because we have a composting toilet. We made the mistake of keeping the black tank valve open (after emptying it and flushing it) when we released the Grey tank valve to empty that. Is this bad? 2) how do we flush the Grey tank? 3) we’ve not used the fresh water tank yet - how do we clean it/sanitize it before our first use? So far, we’ve only been connecting to city water at campsites. It’s a 2018 Coachmen Leprechaun 32BH and we just bought it. Thank you!
No if liquid is the only thing going in the tank it is not an issue the way it is with solids Grey tanks do not have flushes and in my opinion do not need them seeing how they do not have any solid or tissue going in the tank I do not sanitize the fresh tank because I do not drink from it. However the fresh tank cleaners and products have instruction and they change from brand to brand. I do not know who recommend sense I do not use it. Wont recommend anything I do use and know if the product works good or not
Being very new to the RV world, I am finding your videos so very helpful. With winter right around the corner for some of us, have you created a video to go over winterization? Thank you again for taking the time to make these videos.
So when you say the tank needs to be 2/3 full before you dump, and if that means using the shower head to get there, you mean into the toilet? Isn't using the flush port on the outside doing the same thing? In either case, the black tank valve should be open? I guess I'm confused how it gets to 2/3 full if the valve is open? (We are weekenders, not full timers). Can you clarify?
You want the tank to be 2/3 filled so you get a good flush of water and keep the tank from building solids up on the bottom. We are going to be updating this video shortly so we can go into more details soon -JR
My black tank flush does nothing. Hooked up the hose, turned it on, nothing comes out of the black tank. It’s like the water doesn’t get to the black tank. I’m not new to rvs, but this is the first o e we’ve had with a flush port. I can’t find a valve or anything to turn on….. any suggestions?
We have a destination camper that sits on our land all summer. No city water, but we have a 275 gallon fresh water tank on our pickup that we bring close enough to camper to fill fresh water tank in camper. Not excited about connecting another hose to the small water pump to use in black vault flush. Do I need to be concerned with that? Any other ideas? First year with a camper. Thx
I see that Jayco is adding the Thetford Santi-Con system. No one that I have seen has really shown that model. Seen some on other RV's. They are installed being that you have to use and if it didn't work you would have to take off the hose and replace the old sewer hose. Is this how Jayco's are set up. Maybe a video showing how Jayco's are installed and what to do if you have to bypass.
My black tank flush out might be stuck… I recently bought a new (new to us) trailer and when I went to use the flush it didn’t work at all. The hose had lots of pressure but there was no water coming from the tank. Do you think it’s plugged somehow? Is there a valve that needs to be opened?
Great video ! One thing, though...I would definitely NOT use my fresh water hose for the black tank flush. Keep a dedicated water hose on board for flushing.
The manufacturer recommends leaving the black valve open during the process to allow the system to work properly as well as to prevent any potential risk of overflowing the tank into your RV, always better safe than sorry.
If you use enough water when you flush the toilet you should not have to back fill the tank. The old idea of back filling comes form a combo of not using enough water when flushing and purge flushing a tank (before black tank flush was on a lot of trailers)
I know this is 2 yrs old, if that hose pipe from the movie is still available I would love to see if I could afford to buy. Thanks for the opportunity 🙏 Thanks JR
Informative information from the narrator but the video lighting and detail could have been a lot better. I see more of the side of the trailer than the underside and the hoses where the action is happening.
Nice video I just wish you had some lighting down on what you where hooking up to and how you did it a little lighting may have help but it did give all of us a good laugh. Thanks
I own a 2021 coachman pursuit 29xps it has a blank tank valve on the passenger side. My question is how to use it, do you treated as the regular black tank valve?
when i hook up the water hose to the black flush , should the pressure reduce be on the end of the hose? or do i use a splitter and only reduce the pressure to the camper?
Do you just use the same hose for fresh water and for flushing the black tank? I know the hose isn't directly touching the poopoo, but it still icks me out
We have an Apex Nano 213RDS. First time using the black tank flush we had water coming out from under (possibly above the floor) the trailer. Any idea what may be the problem?
Sounds like the line was not connected to the tank. Guess from description. Please bring it in and we can take a look at it....call and make appointment first
I have a Cougar Keystone 31sqb. If I look down the toilet hole, should I see water about a foot or two down? I've emptied the tank and flushed it until nothing comes out and I still seem to see water. Just wondering if that means I have a clog somewhere or if that's normal.
Wash the sewer hose out and I use a different hose for black tank flush then I do anything else. Just keeping it cleaned out as best as possible. Thats what I did at the time. That video is a few years old. -JR
Where is the valve to allow the water to go in under the sink. You say you go in and open the valve but don't show us where the valve is and how to open it. How do you open the valve on a Keystone RV bullet?
Is there anything we need to do inside the trailer before turning the water on? Or just hook up the water hose and keep the drain open? We have a ‘22 25DBSWE
Because it does not go into the grey tank. Only the black has the flush connected to it and after you run soap water (Grey Tank) into the stink slinky I do not want black water going back in -JR
Can you do a video on how to lubricate dumb valves or do you already have a video on that topic? My valves are not as easy to open as when I first got my trailer.
we talk about the products in our chemical video linked below but we can try and do a more in depth video on it....I have added it to the list but warning there is a ton of stuff already planned for the spring and we do not shoot during the summer but because you took the time to watch the video and comment I will do my best to get it done for you Danny.....again thank you for watching and be sure to subscribe so when the video comes out you can see it pop up in your news feed ua-cam.com/video/F7qn4w6-F24/v-deo.html
Is there a valve inside somewhere? Maybe under the sink that lets the water through? I ask because when I hook mine up the water is on in the hose but nothing is going through to the tank. 2015 Forrest river 33 FT.
I really do appreciate your time in making these videos. I've been full time for the past 15 years but still learn from them. I am however a newbie to Macerator toilets. Mine is a Tecma 2G and I'm wondering if it is still necessary to leave the black tank valve closed? I have been doing so since I bought this fifth wheel but, there is absolutely no solids present when draining the tank. I would like to hear your professional opinion or recommendation on this.
What if the water doesn't flow into the rv? I have 2 openings on my hideout and they aren't labeled. One is obviously the city water input bc it works.
Do you connect the hose to the pressure regulator I attached to the city water outlet when I initially set up camp or use full water pressure from the campground?
There should be one for each one....other products I have seen with dual baths have one for each. However If it does not have two flushes try hooking a hose up to each dump and seeing which one water flows out of. If there is only one dump you will have to contact Keystone Manufacturing to see how they ran the flushing system. Call the customer service number for them it is 1-866-425-4369
My seasonal campground suggested leaving some water in the black tank during the week while we’re not there to keep things loose. How would I do this? Should I leave a little water in the black tank during travel days?
I saw a video saying to put a bag of ice in the tank before you travel. The ice will move around cleaning the sensors. Supposedly, it will gently scrub the whole tank.
@@sparkenwolf7683 I am not a big fan of this. It can fix a probe issue but if we are using enough water to start with and use a tank flush correctly we should not have an issue in the first place.
JR, I have seen videos recommending using RIDEX in the black tank periodically. Is this something you would recommend? Or should I just stick with your advice of using toilet chemicals in your other video? Thank you sir. (FYI, I have a Keystone Outdoorsman 175LHS).
Some good logic behind that but more miss information. Let me explain Both ridex and some rv chemicals us enzymes to work the difference is RV chemicals are designed to work faster. Home Ridex is designed to work over years we need ours to work in days. I am sure that a 175LHS would have a smaller black tank. If it was me I would only use RV chemicals. That small of a tank I would want them to work as fast as possible. I see a lot of people using home made fixes to try and fix problems from not using the system correctly in the first place.
Possible dumb question but I’m new to RVing. I dumped my black water and left the valve open then hooked up the black water hose and turned the water on but no water ended up coming out. Any advice or input on what I’m doing wrong?
When I take my sewer cap off, sh-stuff starts flowing out. Are my stop knives bad? There is one on the right (I’m assuming that’s black, and as smaller hosed one on the left (assuming grey) 2006 Rockwood Roo. Thanks
That would be my bet. Or something in them. You can try clean and lube or for a 2006 I would just replace. If it was a 2016 I would say clean and lube. You got your money out of a 2006 knife valve
I have a forest River rockwood 2506s. The first few times I used the flush I definitely heard a repeated swooshing sound as the wand rotated. After about a half dozen uses I seems to not be rotating. What’s your experience on this? Thanks.
I have a keystone and I only have 1 valve for a hose and its for a fresh water tank. Seems like they are doing this for only one model. What model is it? Kind of confused with model

Thank you for the video, JR! We just bought a used 2012 Starcraft Autumn Ridge 278BHS tow-behind trailer, and plan to live in it full-time. When empty, the black tank reads 3/4 full. I attempted to use the black tank flush (with the black tank open), and clean water started running down the back of the trailer, as well as spraying out of what appeared to be some not-so-tight connections under the sink. Should I have disconnected my fresh water line from the city first? Also, since the water never made it to my black tank, does this indicate a non-functioning pump for the black flush? Thanks again! Your videos are extremely helpful!
I would do a probe clean first. The fresh water line has no relationship with the black tank flush line however it is possible to have a loose fitting or bad check valve causing the issue
Yes you can for the black tank tank flush no issue there just be sure you have it regulated down. I would run a Y adapter after the pressure regulator for that
@@therealjr1715 I'm late to the party but could you use the fresh water hose for the black water flush if I also used a one way valve? That way I'd only need one hose just move it to the flush. Thanks for the great videos!
Lori, We cannot speak for that particular model, as we do not carry any Keystone products. We have had the name longer than they have, so there is always confusion on this. Typically, a secondary black tank should have it's own black tank flush and it's own sewer outlet, assuming the product line offers black tank flushes. If it does not have one, then I would suggest having one installed at a reputable service center. It should be flushed and emptied the same way as the primary black tank. -MARK
JR, thank you for all the awesome videos, I really enjoy them. I recently purchased a new camper and while dewinterizing and sanitizing I inadvertently over filled the black tank with the toilet. I expected when it overflowed it would back up into the toilet bowl however when it reached the top of the tank it was leaking into the enclosed underbelly. The dealer and manufacture say this is correct and not an issue but it seems like a bad deal to me and the system should be sealed. Is that commonly what happens when a black tank over fills? I'm just glad it happened fresh clean water and the toilet hasn't been used yet!
@@KeystoneRVCenter thanks for the response JR! The unit was brand new and had never been used. I actually ended up calling the RVIA and talked to an inspector who gave me some info on their code. That helped convince the manufacturer and dealership to make it right. Turned out the vent pipe gromet was out of the tank and the vent pipe was disconnected. Thanks again for your response!

They sell a sensor cleaner at our parts department. Designed for cleaning sensor in tanks
Can you tell me how to use and flush the tanks on a 1992 Four Winds? It doesn’t have all the fancy stuff!
In 1992 they would not have had black tank flush standard. Was it added at some point?

“Put the phone on hold, and start laughing” I love this guy!😂😂😂
True story
explained well, except for the pushing of the garden hose into the sewer hose at the end. , why do that?
Wash the sewer hose out and I use a different hose for black tank flush then I do anything else. Just keeping it cleaned out as best as possible. Thats what I did at the time. That video is a few years old.

Where is the valve to allow the water to go in under the sink. You say you go in and open the valve but don't show us where the valve is and how to open it. How do you open the valve on a Keystone RV bullet?
Its a automatic check valve. Depends on the floorplan every floorplan will have it somewhere differtent
Were doing a video on the full water layout of the typical rv soon
JR should I have a pressure regulator on the hose to ensure I do not exceed 35 psi ?
I always have one on. There is debating on this but for me I say yes
Is there anything we need to do inside the trailer before turning the water on? Or just hook up the water hose and keep the drain open? We have a ‘22 25DBSWE
Tanks empty. Valves open. Nothing to do inside. Do not run to the point you overflow your tank
-JR
Black tank pull bar is broke, can it be replaced
Yes call our parts department 1-800-232-3279
Why not run water through the flush hose again after you empty the grey water?
Because it does not go into the grey tank. Only the black has the flush connected to it and after you run soap water (Grey Tank) into the stink slinky I do not want black water going back in
-JR
Hello Jr I over filled the black tank and it expanded and even caused my straps to expand what action should I take to resolve this problem
New straps would be my guess
-JR
Can you do a video on how to lubricate dumb valves or do you already have a video on that topic? My valves are not as easy to open as when I first got my trailer.
we talk about the products in our chemical video linked below but we can try and do a more in depth video on it....I have added it to the list but warning there is a ton of stuff already planned for the spring and we do not shoot during the summer but because you took the time to watch the video and comment I will do my best to get it done for you Danny.....again thank you for watching and be sure to subscribe so when the video comes out you can see it pop up in your news feed

Put some vegtable oil in the tank after u clean it.maybe a half cup
Leave the tank closed until its at 2/3 of a tank at least

Where is the black tank flush valve on a 2017 Hideout 175hs?
Not sure we do not sell Keystone Products
-JR
At 5:16 you mentioned a knife valve.... Is that different from the black tank valve?
Same thing just different names
-JR
What if the water doesn't flow into the rv? I have 2 openings on my hideout and they aren't labeled. One is obviously the city water input bc it works.
It will flow into the tank. If the black tank flush is not flowing into the tank it could be a check valve that is bad causing it not to flow
Hey I have two black tank valve on my keystone bullet 2015 and one grey tank how do I flush out black tank .i need to do right way
And I have fresh water hose going into city water
Does it have two black tanks or one? Does it have a single bath or two?
Did this get figured out
Do you connect the hose to the pressure regulator I attached to the city water outlet when I initially set up camp or use full water pressure from the campground?
Pressure regulator is always the first thing on in the campground
-JR
Does it need to put water regulator when flushing black tank?
I put mine on the campground connection first so it is always on anytime I run the water for anything with my camper
-JR
i have a Sprinter with two bathrooms and not sure which flush is for the front and back. Can you help me with that?
There should be one for each one....other products I have seen with dual baths have one for each. However If it does not have two flushes try hooking a hose up to each dump and seeing which one water flows out of. If there is only one dump you will have to contact Keystone Manufacturing to see how they ran the flushing system. Call the customer service number for them it is 1-866-425-4369
Can you use the full water pressure from the tap with the flush port or do you have to put the pressure regulator on for this?
I always put the pressure regulator on the faucet first so anything I connect off the faucet has the reduced pressure
-JR
Won't the toilet over flow 24 inches above the floor BEFORE the water reaches the ROOF???
No the ball valve foot flush would have to be open.
-JR
Is this all the same for a 2016 Keystone Passport GT? Our flush connection is on the opposite side.
Flush connections can change floor plan to floorplan. However they typically label them
My seasonal campground suggested leaving some water in the black tank during the week while we’re not there to keep things loose.
4 fills of the toilet. We have a video of how to use the bathroom too it will explain this
why do i have 3 valves on my RV? Model 29R66 Pilgrim Route 66 Flyer
My guess would be 2 grey tanks and 1 black

The Rhino xtreme hoses do not fit the bumper of the Hemisphere GLX..
We will do an Instagram video on how to make it fit. keystonervcenter on Instagram
It fits
JR, I have seen videos recommending using RIDEX in the black tank periodically. Is this something you would recommend? Or should I just stick with your advice of using toilet chemicals in your other video? Thank you sir. (FYI, I have a Keystone Outdoorsman 175LHS).
Some good logic behind that but more miss information. Let me explain
Both ridex and some rv chemicals us enzymes to work the difference is RV chemicals are designed to work faster.
It might be a bad valve on the black tank flush. Our upcoming video is going to cover this so keep an eye out for it
Make sure the seal is in place
Yes

When I take my sewer cap off, sh-stuff starts flowing out. Are my stop knives bad? There is one on the right (I’m assuming that’s black, and as smaller hosed one on the left (assuming grey) 2006 Rockwood Roo. Thanks
Both stops appear to me that they are in.
Thanks.
Interesting could be a bad check valve were going to do a video on this soon
-JR
We have a fresh water hose valve and next to it is a "Flush" one is that the black water flush valve?
I have a keystone and I only have 1 valve for a hose and its for a fresh water tank. Seems like they are doing this for only one model. What model is it? Kind of confused with model
Not sure. We sell Forest River and Jaycos. We are in Pennsylvania the Keystone State. We do not do anything with Keystone RV Manufacturing
@brotherbonesx we have the same issue
How do I flush my fresh water tank on my 2013 Raptor toy hauler RP395?
store.keystonervcenter.com/keystone/details.php?ITEM=5336662
Hi JR why you have so many keys?
Master Keys for tons of different RVs from over the years. Motorhomes, popups, colemans, Old and New towable locks, toy hauler gates, golf cart keys, slam latches, just to name a few
So toilet paper is flushed?
If it is RV toilet paper yes.
@@therealjr9175 so no ordinary toilet paper
Do you use a reducer for the water going into the black tank flush or just let it go in full pressure??
I would use a reducer
Thank you
You're welcome
Check out our chemical video where we talk about tank probe cleaner chemical
ua-cam.com/video/F7qn4w6-F24/v-deo.html
I would do a probe clean first. The fresh water line has no relationship with the black tank flush line however it is possible to have a loose fitting or bad check valve causing the issue
My question is can you use just a normal Garden hose?
Yes you can for the black tank tank flush no issue there just be sure you have it regulated down. I would run a Y adapter after the pressure regulator for that
@@therealjr1715 I'm late to the party but could you use the fresh water hose for the black water flush if I also used a one way valve?
That way I'd only need one hose just move it to the flush. Thanks for the great videos!
I do not have a black tank flush connection
Not every trailer has them but most service departments can add them. If yours cant find one that can
put a hose in your toilet........same thing
I have a 2019 montana high country 362rd, we have 2 black tanks. How do I flush the back tank????? PLEASE HELP!!!!
Just asked my service manager this questions. No something is wrong. Who worked on this unit ?
-JR
@@KeystoneRVCenter thanks for the response JR! The unit was brand new and had never been used. I actually ended up calling the RVIA and talked to an inspector who gave me some info on their code. That helped convince the manufacturer and dealership to make it right. Turned out the vent pipe gromet was out of the tank and the vent pipe was disconnected. Thanks again for your response!
Dude thats great you got it fixed
